What a surprise to hear the Jacques Loussier Trio playing Bach as background music while unboxing the second Mac! (BTW: I'm intrigued because the BIG stereo SET amp wich is seen for a moment at the right of the screen. Impressive huge tubes, indeed!). Really nice video.
I literally watched this thru my own B&W, McIntosh system, although not at this level. Sounds great, your system viewed and heard through my system! I have MX120 going into MC205, B&W 804S, HTM3, 805S! Older stuff. 😆
I live about 15 minutes away from the McIntosh Labs factory and my office is about 5 minutes from there. I drive by there a few times a week, and always think "Oh, the fun I could have if they would allow me in there for an hour, with a couple of moving dollies and a box truck parked out front." I do own one of their HT-4 center channel speakers....absolutely love it!
This is what I'm talking about, crack for Audiophiles, keep it coming guys, between Audio Research and McIntosh it just keeps getting better and it's a great time to be an Audiophile with MQA and Tidal in full swing. This is the type of job that on the weekends, I would do the setups for free, just to be around the equipment and have the exposure of being able to listen to some of the finest gear on the planet. It's truly priceless. Thanks for doing this.
MQA is lossy garbage and is a money grab for royalties from music -ever heard of flac lossless -yeah just what we needed Bob Stuart to rip us off with bullshit -and he has never given a credible explanation how it properly works -it is the worst thing to ever happen to music since Itunes
MQA is the greatest gift to music listeners and equipments lovers. Not one customer preferred the Qobuz version of a song to the MQA version. I've had a few people who preferred the sound of a physical SACD.
Don't say that too openly especially if you're enjoying them on TH-cam's audio format type, some Stax 007/009S philes might flag your comment as being inappropriate. They came after me lol.✊

A single 50watt rms per channel amp would be perfectly satisfactory at the level you were playing this demo. I saw peak readings of 12 watts on the meter. I can't understand why anyone would need or use a 1.2KW audio amp at home? My problem, which I think applies to most people, is I can't play music at the volume I would like without disturbing neighbors so I don't. And my amp is 100watts rms per channel. When I want volume I put on headphones.
Looks like the peak power demand is around 10-12 watts. I suspect a pair of good 50-75 watt monoblocks would sound pretty much the same at that (fairly loud!) level.
Yeah man but, ... the room is around 20 square meter and speaker like this are made for big rooms up to 80. Driven with dynamic music in a big room you are quickly in the 500-600 watt range and the rest is headroom. So I would say it is a realistic combination. Greetings from Berlin.
:)) wrong. McIntosh meters have an integration time of around 300ms. What you see are not peak levels, only medium levels for 1/3 of a second. Peaks are around 200-400 W. There is a reason this amps exist....

Maybe you can help me...I've heard of what is called "TUBE SOUND"...vs natural sound vs the horn sound...do you know what's the difference in all this jargon? I just want speakers that sound good to me...does that make sense.
Very Impressive. Is it possible to overpower the speakers?? I was a little surprised on the amp choice given that the spec max power for the speakers stands at 500 watts. kennygsmooth83 Just because the power spec on the amp exceeds the rated power handling of the speakers doesn't mean they're a mismatch. It's better to have too much amp power than too little. It's extremely unlikely that you'd want to play the speakers at a level where the power exceeded 500 watts. The difference between 500 watts and 1200 watts is a little over 3 dB, which is not a large difference at all.
Pretty sweet amps you got there, speakers, too! I do wish you would maybe blast out something like "I Fought Piranhas" by the White Stripes occasionally instead of all that Jazz.

Si intravedono le Westminster!! giusto? quelle in effetti sarebbero già belle e pronte per un versus con le B&W anche se forse sarebbe stato più sfizioso un confronto con casse meno costose pur sapendo che l'impronta "concentrica" delle Tannoy è ben presente in tutti i loro diffusori. Ma a questi livelli si accetta TUTTO!!! Quindi,ben venga lo scontro tra titani se riesci ad organizzarlo :-)
Funny, I've seen a lot of channels offering listening sessions to show the quality of the equipment. But, just the music playing while you were setting up the system was far superior to almost every one! Go figure. (Room acoustics possibly? Speaker placement? Likely not just the equipment.) 加油朋友們！
Room acoustics make a huge difference in these recordings, usually because the recording setup is so simple. You can easily hear the room in almost all of them and to me that's very interesting. It makes a huge difference here but if you were to actually be there, you wouldn't really notice it because your brain expects it.
I once heard a set of these Macintosh mono blocks powering a large pair of Usher loudspeakers. Talk about moving air, holy crap! And the amps were loafing. However, I don't think Mac amps would be a good match for my sealed box towers.
It looks very attractive to audiophiles, but I doubt that most home stereo systems really needs such big power amp to drive the speakers. Most home stereo system with speakers sensitivity 87db/w and driven by 200w per channel power amp would deliver loud enough sound pressure in most listening room..

Just because the power spec on the amp exceeds the rated power handling of the speakers doesn't mean they're a mismatch. It's better to have too much amp power than too little. It's extremely unlikely that you'd want to play the speakers at a level where the power exceeded 500 watts. The difference between 500 watts and 1200 watts is a little over 3 dB, which is not a large difference at all.
