I had a similar idea. I'm getting my first sewing machine in a few weeks. I've been saving up for months, and i'm in the planning and dreaming stage. That whenever i buy a fabric i like, if i can, but just an extra yard so i can cut it into different pre-cut sizes. and revisit them later down the line and sit with the memories of when and why I bought it, and get to love it again in a new project someday.

I just started using your system after buying your "Scrappiness is Happiness" book. I have a lot of cutting ahead of me, but it will make things so much easier in the long run. I'm also weeding out fabrics I won't use in the future, since my taste in fabrics has changed over the 19+ years that I've been quilting. Thank you so much for sharing your scrap fabric system, Lori. I love it!

I too am currently in your old system but believe me I will be changing that pronto and I love the name for this system "scrappy happy" I will add that I no longer will have to have a fit about where I put the newly purchased fabric so I won't loose it bags. I love those baskets and already have some so I was on somewhat of an adventure to organize. I surely loved this video. I am not sure why there are 23 thumbs down on the top are they pointing at their mess or guiding us too follow your lead, thank you people and congrats to those of you who have your fabric organized I will be with you soon. THANK YOU Lori for sharing.

Cut in strips...not squares! Genius!! I've just spent several days cutting pieces from fat quarters and larger pieces from my container of teals, aqua, mint greens etc. for a scrappy quilt. Had I known about your scrappy happy system I coul have saved myself tons of time. I'll make this a winter project. I have 15 small bins of smallish pieces already sorted by color. Next time I'll be ready. Thanks Lori!

What a great system. I’ve seen those baskets in Target. I have a few. Your closet shelves are nice and deep to accommodate them,. Thanks for another really great video. I love that you cut down your yardage when you get it home, which makes perfect sense. I will do that from now on, as most of what I buy is for piecing and not backing.

Oh my. I’m jealous. I have ziplock bags marked by inches and color. All colors. Not separate. I have lidded totes marked light and dark. This is inspiring. I always wash. I built a shelf unit to hold exactly my lidded bins. It’s 5 x 6 so I can store 30 totes. I also ask for the cardboard fabric stores on in the store and wrap my whole fabrics on them. I’ve even cut cardboard from boxes for this. They store by color. Right now I’m working on a crumb quilt (I always thought they were scrappy).

Thanks for the great videos, keep them coming - Blessings to you !

I have recently acquired my grandmothers fabric stash! I "plan" on doing this system to get some control of it all. There are 20 ish bolts of fabric with 2 or more yards and about 40ish 20qt containers with lids. I have a lot to do. Plus her 3 sewing machines and a serger. Whew! My fiancé is building a room on the back of our house so I have a designated sewing/craft area.

Lori thank you for sharing your system. I am starting to use your system you make everything strips and than cut what you need from that. I don’t have the use of my right hand anymore and I have been cutting until I thought my good arm was going to fall off, my husband let me get a big go cutter the one that’s electric so changing some stuff let make sure I have this right 7”, 5”. 3 1/2 2 1/2 1 1/2 is this right?
