So sorry to hear this … believe it or not … the exact same thing happened to me years ago - like you I acted completely out of character and screamed and shouted at the guy that had hidden himself upstairs in my house - I’m glad you were both ok …as was I - but an awful thing to think that someone is in your house while you are there.
