I, too, love mahogany. I have five pieces of my grandmother's mahogany that she probably bought in the '40's. I'm now 76, and I love them more now than ever. I have a 24 year old granddaughter stopping for a few days after Thanksgiving and am hoping we have time for the lemon cake! Many thanks!

Breakfast yes!! My little dog in his bed next to my reading nook window which I often set for breakfast. My dog is always hoping for and always rewarded with "sharesies" as scrambled eggs are his favorite of all treats.Well, next to a bite or two of pancakes, that is. Hi Kevin I was out yesterday for a movie and dinner, so didn't see this episode til today. Buried in kitchen duties but had to tell you that this episode was a great break for me. I just Love the shape of your antique plant stsnds. , the base has a pleasing shape & balance and the “ feet” are very charming, like a cat’s paw.My grandmother’s friends had furnishings similar in style in their parlors, and so did my Mother. Unfortunately I did not have the chance to have dibbs on that stuff them when my parents moved. Thank you for showing the proper way to clean leeks. I have always been challenged by the process..believe it or not. ❤

My breakfast today also had 2 bell peppers but with red onion, spinach and diced potatoes. Michigan Fall color is glorious out my windows with bright sunshine and blue skies! A day to enjoy!

Hi Kevin, thank you, as always, for a great day hanging out together. Great to see a lot of Avery and Goldie; such an inquisitive kitten. You asked if we eat breakfast. Never, in my case. I prefer a light lunch, a large dinner in the evening but keeping some space for afternoon tea on a regular basis!
What beautiful leeks. You are so fortunate to have a large kitchen garden and the energy to keep it well stocked with produce. I really admire how you manage so many tasks and still have time to bake, cook and entertain in your beautiful home. Bell peppers and leeks are great standbys as you say for soups, casseroles, side vegetables and more. I'm not surprised your deep freeze is already bursting with goodies!
Your antique fern stands are truly beautiful. I have two reproduction ones from the 1980's. Not as ornate as yours but, like you, I find them invaluable as decorating accents. You made an excellent job of restoring the one and polishing the other. Well done!
Great, as always, we went for a drive out to your local flower store. Such beautiful produce, I could mooch around there all day and never get bored. Great to see you buy red and cream Kalanchoe. They grow really well on my balcony and flower for ages so will be perfect in your cool bathroom window display. Your fern looks stunning in the parlour windowsill. Regrettably, with central heating, they don't fare well with me.
Now, to the Star of The Show: your FABULOUS Lemon Loaf Cake. I wouldn't have thought to use sour cream for that, particularly with the load of extra lemon extract. Clearly it didn't curdle! Cooked to perfection, as all your baking is, the smell was to die for! Looks like my day tomorrow is mapped out already. I have the ingredients and I can hear the Lemon Loaf calling to me!!

It always amazes me how much land you have. You not only have the buildings and out door spaces but a kitchen garden, larger vegetable garden and a regular garden, paths and established trees. Mine is a city lot. I am lucky in that I have 60% of the parcel. I am doing my best and will have four raised beds in my front yard. Still I don’t think I will be able to produce enough for a year’s supply of anything except maybe pesto from basil. My goal is to get enough tomatoes to can. I would love to grow just a fraction of the leeks you have. Next Spring I am going to try in earnest to plant all four beds to maximize a harvest. I was late this year and failed at cantaloupe, pumpkins and the tomatoes so late I don’t think they will ripen. I did get radishes, beans, cucumbers and watermelon. I agree with you about furniture. I have slowly replaced my modern furniture with vintage pieces from the 20s and 30s. I love the pieces that are finished in shellac. I harvested a large zucchini yesterday so will be using your method to freeze it. I’m also going to try to make your zucchini basil soup.

I was born in Persia and we had lots visiting with our family ! Going to lunch and dinner and of course they coming too and we set tables and made lots lots food and have long happy fun visit 🤷🏼♀️but here I try to do the same thing invite the co worker or peoples we met ! But they never bother to invite back so after couple years I give up 😏people here don’t like to trouble their self for any body ! You remind me of my old home and good old days

Oh how lovely and delicious are leaks. In Greece , in Sparta we make a wonderful salad with thinly sliced cabbage, thinly sliced leaks, chopped Spring onions, feta diced , and dressed with olive oil, chopped clove of garlic, some thinly sliced kalamata black olives and some freshly squeezed lemon juice, olive oil, all according to your taste. Good idea to add some grated
lemon rind and a bit of Dutch or French smooth mustard or a quarter teaspoon of prepared Colman's hot mustard.

Oh!...i restored two fern stands back in the late 80's...once i got the terrible layers of varnish off i discovered they were rosewood, with inlaid patterns on the platform with a carved rim & legs, slightly heavier than these...but turned out so lovely i kept them as end tables.
730 AM here now..i smell the coffee, it's almost done........but it will have to wait..i can't miss a thing about that lemon loaf....my achillies heel! Been searching for the perfect recipe to make one like my grannie used to make. A proud woman, she took all her secrets with her when she passed. i did figure out her bread.. & baked beans..but can not get the loaf just right to save my life..lol. oy. ><

Always keep your egg shells for your garden!! They are pure calcium!! Tomatoes especially love eggshells mixed into the dirt!! There is always a use for everything!!

What a wonderful way to spend the day! This morning, I had homemade bagels with cream cheese and coffee. I, too, like to freeze onions, leeks and peppers - So convenient! I also have a dehydrator with an adjustable thermostat and dry these and other veggies. Once dry, they can be vacusealed into mason jars. These will keep well after the ones in the freezer are used up, and they reconstitute well in soups, stews and other dishes. Of course, I also dehydrate and store the herbs I grow in my garden, too. You reminded me today that I need to buy lemon extract, and some peppermint extract. That lemon loaf cake would definitely be lovely with tea, and I've been craving homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream.
