Thank you so much. I plan to retire in Jomtien early next year. You sold me on Jack. What a great guy with a wealth of information. 😏 That took a load of my mind about health insurance.
Most important video you have done thus far. Can you please do a video on the best doctors for example primary as well as specialities like cardiology , oncology etc? Also a good question Claudio asked but I didn’t fully understand Jacks reply regarding having coverage abroad for up to 180 days but only 90 days per trip , could you please explain the 90 days per trip part? Thank you
so even if you spent years with them and never claimed and they meade heaps off you they will still charge you more lol insurance lol so much for client loyalty and no claims lol
G’day Daz thank you, Great video’s I have been watching your episodes with great interest, since about 2018 I have been giving a lot of thought to relocating, retiring to Pattaya and opening a small business to keep me out of trouble (not a bar) but COVID certainly had put the brakes on that for a while, but with things now on the upturn and me taking early retirement again with the help of COVID, my thoughts are now back on track. I am very interested In your episodes on retirement to Pattaya, accommodation condo’s, houses, medical and all the legal stuff associated with, I would like some advice on buying a second hand motor scooter a car, renovating a condo apartment, buying furniture that sort of stuff, thanks again for some great video’s. Cheers Michael
Jack, Do I gather than any pre-existing conditions - in my case a TIA which led to successful brain surgery (meningioma) and type-2 diabetes which I'm trying to erase through diet & exercise - are NOT insurable in Thailand, where I'm hearing hospital stays are not always paid out anyway? Aged 61
Hey Daz, I find your videos very worth watching. From what I've seen on your channel so far, you've convinced me that a holiday in Pattaya would be a good idea. I'm trying to prepare as much as I can with your channel, but you have so many videos that I "can't see the wood for the trees". You also have a few playlists, but I don't have time to watch them all. Do you already have a playlist that can be a support for a complete Pattaya newbie for the first holidays? Sort of a "Pattaya 101", preparation, places for less "touristy" ;) activities, dangers and common scams, rules of conduct in public regarding Thailand (i heard you can't go "commando" if you know what i mean. is that true?), possibly what you think is better for a newbie hotel or condo. Basically, I am overwhelmed by all the info. If such a playlist already exists, I apologize for overlooking it. If not, it would be really great if you could put something together? It would certainly add value, and I am certain that thousands of newbies would be grateful. Maybe I'm overthinking things here... but I like to be prepared ^^
Coming to Thailand on holiday or to live & not having any insurance is crazy In my opinion. You can select an excess to reduce the costs too. I do this. Also if you have the luxury of having some extra money to cover things that’s also good. Outpatients is mainly not too much cost so people tend to cover this themselves.
Your chances of being involved in an auto accident are high in Thailand. Add in TB, Malaria, Dengue Fever, dog bites or falling on the poorly maintained sidewalks, and you get the idea, buy travel insurance or health insurance if you stay awhile.
Super vid with costs, cover & common conditions. Now to cut down my carbs, be more generous with my greens - and find some seductive physical fitness...
This is Thailand and as we work here we have to follow the rules set by our regulatory body , or lose our license. I accept a small minority will not like it because it is not what they are used to, so they can buy an expensive international cover that will work in Thailand but probably have ti claim first and claim back later, or self insure.
@@jacklevy7451International insurances are more exp but most of them are much better too. You get what you pay for. Nobody here was talking about not to follow the Thai regulation rules. But these Thai insurances are mostly weak. So if someone wants a reliable good contract better to choose one of the few companies who are specialized for expat needs.
Thank you! Great information. Because I am over 70 and I prefer to have health insurance with no deductibles, my premium is rather high. But, of course, that is my choice.
The big things I've learned about Thai insurance is get $0 deductible. Buying from quality insurer who pays. Read through the exemptions. Check what hospitals are in Network for the insurer. Read and understand the basics, prescription drug coverage, pre existing, and where and if it covers when traveling outside of Thailand. I've been to hospital a couple of times for minor things and never reached the 20,000 baht deductible.
As we who live in Thailand know, there are many plans to buy. Some cover very little and cost too much. With a bit of homework it is about half of a US policy.
I'm 60 years old and have Diabetic type 2 trulicity injection weeky 4,000B single dose thats just for 1 week, where I live in Portugal for a months treatment cost is 10.45 euros for that same medication and free health care. I'll be staying in Portugal just going to Thailand for holidays.
Hi Daz: wondering if you have any videos or info on gentleman’s clubs in Phuket/Patong. Can’t seem to find any info. Don’t like the loud bar where it’s expensive before you even leave with company. Straight transaction my style. Maybe a recommendation of other TH-camr. Here for another 5 weeks. Thanks
Great video and information. I have a question about how the insurance works. Do they pay the bills directly or do you have to pay (meaning that you need to have cash) and then claim it back?
Let me get this straight. If I have a pre-existing condition, they will find out, even if it originated overseas. At the same time, if I'm in great health, but switch companies after several years with no claims, they won't see that even though coverage was with a Thai company?
Good info and Actually in the 🇺🇸 at 65 with Medicare and parts B -C - D-it is getting very expensive-anywhere from $230-$600 +monthly ( single tax fliers with high incomes) in the 🇺🇸 anyways! So in either country you pay!
Hi Daz, I enjoy your informative videos, I am travelling to Pattaya from the UK in September but have a problem. I intend to stay for 6 months. I was doing the questionnaire for the non-immigrant O visa online ok - until I came to flights. It said I can only book a flight for a maximum of 60 days!!! I have been to Pattaya many times but have not had a problem before. I am over 50. Will immigration at the airport accept a 6 month return flight?
Immigration normally need your out going ( NOT return ) flight to be Within your visa period, that's why many guys buy a cheap " burner" one way ticket to say Cambodia which IS within the visa period and show that instead of the real " Return" ticket.
This question is about the Social Security system in the US...where they force you to buy medicare at age 65. Is there a way around that or does US medicare work in Thailand ?
medicare covers nothing outside of usa. some “medicare advantage” plans offer some emergency or urgent coverage overseas, but you must pay first to the physician or hospital and claim reimbursement later.
If in accident, do insurance companies provide a card or something you keep in your wallet so hospital knows when taken in? Or how does hospital go about fixing you up if you went in unconscious?
Can you have insurance that pays only if you are treated at a low cost govt hospital? It should be cheaper if you are given a room at 500b a day instead of 50,000 baht a day.
Thank you for clear reporting, seems Jack is the man to come to for health insurance…… Do you recommend any Thai Insurance for foreigners ex-pats wanting to obtain a retirement visa? In addition, I keep getting bombarded with advertising ads from one broker (Top Expat Insurance, No 1 in Thailand) what’s the truth about this agency????? I really need to make an appointment to come in and see you
The big worry for me is what you disclose about your medical history. I may have been treated for things as a child that I don't know about, or I may have visited a doctor at some point in the past, and have forgotten the reason why, this could impact your insurance cover by no fault of your own.
In the US, most places have a record retention policy of only retaining your medical records for 7 years (because that's how long US law requires them to keep your medical records). Cancer hospitals are an exception as they usually keep health records much longer due to likelihood of recurrence of the disease after many years. So, unless you had cancer, it's unlikely that any health records still exist from your childhood (unless you yourself retained them). Of course, if you're not in the US, then ignore this reply.
As far as I know, YES. It is mostly 70 years, but they allow usually a year to year extension. As long as you bring money, you have insurance, if you cost money..... Maybe some have a different agenda, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Check your policy mine was 3 million but maximum payout was 100000 per item and only 2000 baht room per day. I never renewed it I can pay that my self with no questions or denials. If you haven't got savings its a big gamble.
Probably the most important factor for a retiree overseas is access to affordable quality healthcare.

i don't like the fact, that the annual maximum of cost covering is limited to some mio bath. Good insurances pay with no limitations.
