- In this video I’m getting inside the Claymore OTF, newest Benchmade Auto knife to enter the EDC space.
There’s also a surprise: a glimpse into my life-long obsession with automatic knives.
Disclaimer: this video is for entertainment purposes only! Performing the disassembly shown in this video is easy, but the reassembly is nearly impossible! Don’t attempt this at home or you may experience an embarrassing moment when shipping a baggie of parts to Benchmade, without a warranty coverage, voided by You.
Hopefully you’ll find this excursion into the world of Benchmade overthinking and overpricing useful and an excursion into my obsession entertaining!
Thanks for the excellent explanation. It saved my knife 👍
That knife that was gifted to you is awesome. The fact that it was made in a prison with limited resources and had to be made in secret makes it even more impressive.
I think if it was recreated with modern components, it would be a hit!
I enjoy your videos and commentary, thank you! I see a lot of criticism of benchmade for the construction of these knifes, but haven’t yet seen any video of them failing because of cheap build quality. I’d like to see some long term tests (like maybe after 2 years of daily use). I kinda like that BM has the blade slide on a steel frame rather than an alum channel.
@@bobdegutis302 indeed, it’s a clever design.
I think I would prefer the gulag knife over that claymore. Keep the videos coming, great content as always.
Thanks! Keep spreading the word, the more subs small channels get, the less mental garbage will be spreading from so called “influencers”
That is the first time I’ve seen the springs hidden under a plate and pinned to the button.
That gulag knife is quite good for what I imagine would be very rudimentary tool access.
Thanks!
The Shootout has a similar design except it’s not pinned to the switch.
Did I miss something? I didn’t see you take apart the spring plate to show us what’s underneath…
@@gorecp60 You did miss something - the beginning! 00:08
I don’t want to drive the roll pin holding the actuator switch out. Not expecting anything different from any other side switch underneath.
@@CuttingBoardRxoh I definitely didn’t miss that. I just figured a video labeled “disassembly” would be an actual disassembly. If you’re afraid to take out a simple pin, you probably shouldn’t be doing these types of videos…
@gorecp60 Thanks for watching. Here’s something you should watch:

Hey Mr. CBR, first off this video was very informative. That you so much.
As far as the Russian prison knife. I’ve owned probably 15+ over my years as a collector. The hole on the blade was almost certainly for a swinging guard that was very prevalent on the Russian prison knives. If you would like some reference photos I would be happy to send them to you.
Sure thing, the email address is in the channel description. Thanks!
@@CuttingBoardRx I’ve sent some reference photos to your email! I also somehow managed to lose one of the locking tab springs… so I’ll be looking for that
An interesting video. Thanks for sharing. I can never understand your opening though. Hi knife people both lady and gentlemen?
I’m saying “Hi there, knife people! Hello Lady and Gentlemen”
Is your hearing ok? You’re the first person to hear this wrong 😆
"Lady" being singular throws off the parallelism, but I guess that's the joke. I have kin still in Tolyatti Russia.@@CuttingBoardRx
This or the livewire??
Definitely Livewire, my pref. tanto. Watch my content:

the materials the claymores are made are minimal at best then the price tag they put on it is ridiculous, do better benchmade
CPM D2 is an excellent steel, it is 3x tougher than ingot D2, as I showed in several tests/videos.
I don't think there is anyone brave enough to deliberately send you knives for testing🤣
Hah! Just 10 short years back Benchmade used to show destructive tests of their own on TH-cam. They allowed the pre-George BHQ channel to test their knives in harsh conditions outdoors.
Very interesting and educational. Thank you.
@@elde667 glad you enjoyed it!
big ask but could you get the dimensions of the tiny retainer springs on the sides? i lost one can't find it anywhere after it shot across the room and I don't want to beg benchmade to take it in for repairs.
The two springs are identical so if you only lost one, you could measure the other. Also, I lost a spring out of the Shootout and was able to make one out of a mechanical pencil spring by unwinding it first and then rewinding it over the shank of an undersized drill bit. As long as it fits into the recess on the gate it should be fine.
Hey man I lost one as well but found the exact one on Ali express
@@l7j.r797 can you DM me the link or description? I half butted fixed it but id like an equivalent
