This is a classic woodsman’s knife. Solid design, components and construction. Fits well and is durable. Sharp enough to cut and a steel that is friendly enough to touch up or sharpen. Value priced and readily available at a local big box retailer. I think that Horace Kephart himself would have approved of this Swiss Tech Haltbar knife.
9:26 “you gotta hock-tua and spit on that thang”!!! 😂 Nice review. The Swisstech products seem to be pretty good for the price. I like the clip on the sheath. 😃👍🏼
After watching what seems to be countless Swiss Tech knife vids, I picked up one. Honestly, it seems to be one heck of a value. I like the feel, heft & overall eronomics of it. It feels right..! I did a paper cut test, surprised that out of the box, it actually did it. I ran it on my power strop and bam instant sharp🤓 Not often i get excited over a mass produced knife, this one has me smiling..!
Yeah, I agree, Im so tired of looking at made in USA knives that cost $150+, when all the knife has to do is cut some shit up, withstand some gentle batoning 2-3" diameter limbs within reason for kindling, if I had to pay $50 for any tool that tool should be able to do its job very well, many times I paid a premium for a $50 tool and it did what its supposed to do, a $50 knife is no different.
I have every tool Swisstech has made so far. I built camping/hunting/ survival kit with them and have been using them solely since February and add anything new they put out since and I have not had a single problem with any of it yet except the saw on the machete isn't real good
It is an absolutely wonderful knife. It definitely has some Heft to it that makes it feel good in the hand. Im glad you explained what the extra button snap was for. I couldnt figure it out. 😅
After messing up a few knives with a new edge bevel because thats what I seen others do after complaining about a factory edge, I've decided to just keep it factory edge, the edge will be more robust/ stronger, the edge will last longer and won't get used up too quick after yrs of sharpening, also it looks ugly when a new bevel rides up too high up on the tip, if you've ever seen what I mean.
I have one of these, it's strong and simple. It's a knife boiled down to it's basic form a steel edge with a handle on it. It's built like Marylin Monroe.
Great video! I appreciate how you casually throw in so much useful information. I have this knife as well and I hadn’t considered keeping the cover flap on as a strop, it’s a great idea! Overall I agree with your thoughts on this knife and I’m pretty happy with mine.
This has replaced my Benchmade Puukko as my bushcraft knife. Feel and weight are amazing. Plus if you break it, go get another one the next time you get groceries. lol

I bought one of these Swiss tech Haltbar‘s a week or two ago and it is a bad as knife super sharp right out of the box, but I did rework it on my whetstones to perfection. I do think I’m gonna get some leather and make my own leather sheath for something thicker.
Another outstanding video. Seems that VG10 is kept around the same hardness most 1095 knives are. Im guessing that's to stop VG10 from becoming to brittle since it has a tendency to chip very easy. Spyderco used VG10 for years. I still have a emerson endura in that steel.

I just received this knife for Christmas, 12/25/2024. I am blown away by it. The quality of the knife is beyond what I expected of a Wal-mart knife. The sheath is garbage, and since I do leather work as a hobby, I will be replacing it. A kydex sheath would also be a possibility.
Thanks for commenting and subscribing! Question: is it possible to remove the outer layer of finish on the leather sheath that it came with? I would like it to have a more natural look.
I had high hopes for the Swiss tech brand being quality and budget friendly, but I was wrong. I bought the Stahlhern which is great so, then I bought the Kraftig and that was a huge disappointment. The liners stuck out past the scales and the first day batoning with the blade chip and 1/4" center of the knife edge so I returned it and got my money back.
The kraftig is not for batoning and the scales are designed that way on purpose. So correction- you misused and broke a knife and complained about its design so returned it like a child would therefore eating into the companies profit and making them have to charge higher prices in the future.
If I may make a suggestion for testing ( I own the EF131 and love it ) 3 knives from Eafengrow in DC53 blade steel EF130, EF131 and EF132 all three are $39.99 far better than VG10 ever thought about being in my opinion , I also own a EF146 in Sleipner steel although this one is $79.99 on Amazon.
