The pained expression on Lionel's face and the savage mentality behind it. Made me quite emotional. I recently completed Haines City 70.3 and I know that feeling. It's the worst but best feeling at the same time. You never feel more alive
I did this course so much tougher than a regular 70.3

Lionel’s stride loops so tight compared to everyone else’s at the end of the run, but yet, everytime he some how finds a way. Incredible
his cadence looks insane
@@leslie7922 yes it’s all about cadence. Strides are shorter but cadence is higher and lionel’s stride/cadence ratio is higher than his competitors 😜
Yes he looks unusually stiff when running - I wonder if he worked on improving his running style would it give him an extra little boost in performance ?
@@iznasni Not necessarily- in some of the side shots we saw he was matching stride for stride the cadence of the other runner. Having a higher cadence but a marginally shorter stride length may mean working harder to cover the same distance; here he obivously wins but against Jan Frodeno. he doesnt win.
@@amblincork yes of course it’s simple maths. If your higher cadence is not enough to cover the other guy’s longer stride, you lose.
Jan is a better swimmer & runner, but hey, you never know 😉

Iconic. Inspirational. So awesome. Like watching two gladiators go toe to toe with genuine respect and affection for one another. Talbot you little beauty for filming that and being able to listen to all the yells of support almost made me feel like I was there, instead of Christchurch, NZ!

That was truly the most amazing proof of determination i have seen in sport. It’s a shame that this type of world class athletism is not showcased in the major sport news. Best videos and sport footage I have seen in a while and I watch a lot of these on my turbo trainer. I was just warming up with this one but I still got emotional and cried watching this end.
I love how Lionel hypes us with his "crush people's souls and dreams" talk. But even more what you see right there on the finish line. Pure love for this game AND the rivals he breaks. Triathlon is beautiful.

Congratulations Lionel. You rock. What a spectacular finish.
It is a beautiful sport and I love how Talbot just filmed it in it's raw realness and didn't talk over the drama. For anyone that knows and sees the subtleties that went on...the fist bump on the hill, Lionel waving Sam over in a sportsmanlike show of respect, then the strategy of surging just before that aid station to have first choice. Lionel surged again just before the final aid station and never slowed to get a drink. Watch the gap develop as Sam slows to grab a cup. He cannot re-accellerate to close the gap and Lionel broke him right there. So much drama, too bad the announcers can never call the race within the race and are too busy hyping stuff that doesnt matter. They miss all the major moves and all the action. Helluva job navigating and filming Talbot!! To Lionel....I think you just got Jan off the couch buddy!! AMAZING grit!!

maybe its lionel's cadance but the last 3km it looked like his right leg was on an even shorter loop giving him knee pain. probably something tight in the lower back or IT-band causing it. you could see him just embrace that pain and push into it. fucking savage man. pain tolerance higher than Long's for sure and thats why he won today. hope no injure!

Could see Lionel try Sams cadence for a very short while and then break back into his own slightly faster cadence.
Lionels form on the downhill portion is amazing - he really uses gravity to his advantage instead of fighting it. It makes all the difference when you;re not on a flat track. Sam tried to follow Lionels running and a good thing too - makes him faster.
Lionel is one of the best technical runners around... and he ignores pain too .
