What happens when you recreate a cooking mama recipe step-by-step in real life? Find out while I make the yōshoku dish, omurice, following Cooking Mama's instructions as closely as possible! It’s… not as easy as you’d think.

- about a cup of cooked rice
- 1/2 of an onion
- a cut of chicken
- 1 large mushroom

The shape of your Omerice has more to do with underfilling than with Overfilling. Japanese ones are actually quite filled with the rice and Mama is deceiving in the cooking step. Love the show and you keep my eggspectation high.

some people push the omurice to the edge of the pan to shape the it too. And also using a paper towel to shape the omurice when it is served on a plate.
also your omelette was overcooked which makes it harder to shape, it should be cooked over really low heat really slowly so you don't get any brown marks! and should almost be not quite set because the hot chicken rice will keep cooking the inside :) and the chicken was also way too big lol

Lynx - The trick is to use your thumb to push on the cracked edge of the eggshell, if that mames sense. Crack the egg lightly all around. Then use your thumb to sort of push up on the cracked edge, perpendicular to the cracked "line" you made around the egg.

It's common for Japanese people to eat omurice with a spoon. They do this with a lot of rice dishes including curry and rice. Rice is a lot easier to eat with a spoon than a fork or chop sticks

Traditionally, it is eaten with a spoon. The egg is usually mixed with cream to make it lighter, and less egg is used. Think of the egg to be more like an egg crepe instead of a traditional American omelette.

i know mama doesnt say so, but i think the onions should have gone in first to sweat them and bring out the flavor, also because if you cook chicken for too long you run the risk of it becoming rubbery. im no professional, thats just some guidlines i use when cooking

Several responses later. When the egg is pan frying in the pan, to get a fluffier egg you actually push the cooked edges in and let the liquid out to cook on the edge. The egg gets nice and fluffy.

Omurice is typically eaten with a spoon. Forks and knives are mostly just not a thing outside of steakhouse-like meals in japan. Like you might see them for a hamburg steak. Curry's in pretty much the same boat.

Hey Tim!! If you make this again, try to wisk back and forth quickly instead of going around. It makes the egg frothy and lighter so it can be eaten with a spoon. Adding more filling makes it bigger as well!! I hope this helps

I was following the instructions but i didn't know the Exact meassurement so i just pourred like 2 eggs and a bit of milk in a bowl .... Than MY MOM came in and she was soo angry and said that i could eat my selfmade dish alone that wasnt even ready😂 but i was young so i threw the liquid (2 eggs mixed with milk )away bcs i was scared of food poisening😂( srry for bad english)
