Privacy! We just want to be left alone and not gawked at by the large corporations through Chrome and other apps that come with Android. CSAM and Apple is worse! Forbes had a great article on that. Next consideration is Right To Repair and upgrade.

Privacy is important, but personally I just see it as specific example of a broader issue: personal autonomy. If I'm going to use (or carry around, drive in, etc) a computer, it's not enough that it doesn't spy on me. I want to know exactly what it's doing, and I want complete control to make it stop doing things or do new things.

Which OS runs fastest on the PinePhone? Arch barebone? postmarketOS Phosh? Nemo Mobile?

Cool review what u thank about the silent blackphone 2 its 350 with 6 month silent subscription

The silent blackphone looks like a security-as-a-service product built with proprietary software. I'm not a fan of that sort of thing for two reasons. First, as they say, "security is process, not a product" - trying to pay for a complete security product is like trying to pay for a complete hygiene product instead of showering or brushing your teeth. You can buy toothpaste, but no amount of money will help you avoid worrying about what toothpaste is or how to use it. Second, Lavabit happened - there's no way to safely delegate data storage and maintain privacy in the face of national security letters. Beyond that, it looks like the Blackphone itself is EOL and they're just shipping their service as a normal app now.

How does emacs run? Does the native-comp branch work?

Emacs runs fine as a CLI app over ssh, but runs into issues trying to open a GUI window. Tried getting a version installed with native-comp, but didn't find prepackaged gcc-jit for manjaro-arm and gave up on compiling a custom gcc for it just because it was going slowly.
