Ironically listened to this through my Aeropex. It’s basically a running safety piece as much as audio gear. Love them. True there’s a lack of low end, but being aware of my surroundings is priceless.

Got mine last Christmas and love them, I run through narrow country roads a lot and feel safe in knowing I will hear cars coming behind me, love the fact that I can also hear bird song when I run in the evenings, very comfy, their customer service is amazing as well. Thanks Ed for the great content throughout the year👍

It’s Aftershokz or nothing for me. Survived a mountain lion stalking and stand-off thanks to being able to listen to the 180-lb. male jumping down onto the mountain single track trail above me. And appropriately, I was listening to a voluminous account of the Battle of Stalingrad at the time ;-) Happy ‘22 and thanks for a good year!

@@EDDBUD you’ll appreciate that, in all seriousness, it wasn’t clear if we (my English Springer Spaniel, Athena runs with me, and flattened next to me when I started shouting at the cougar) were going to survive. It was like that for about 3 minutes or so. Out of desperation, as he was crouched about 20 feet ahead of us, I finally started to feign at lunging at him. He finally got out of the crouch and stood up, and I began slowly backing down the trail while facing him. I was shaking at that point, exhausted and sweaty (it was snowy and just 5 degrees Fahrenheit)!and could no longer scream. After about 50 feet I could no longer see him through the pine and spruce trees, so I sprinted downhill a good half mile, which was crazy given the ice and rocks. Fortunately I was wearing micro spikes on my Salomon Speedcross ;-) The lion didn’t pursue. Then I threw up. A group of us volunteer Rangers (our home owners association owns several thousand acres of open space - undeveloped and little used forest land)!hiked up there later and set up a motion-activated wildlife motion camera and, a few days later, we had photos of the mountain lion, which by that time had threatened two other neighbors and killed a dog. Colorado state officials tried but were unable to trap him as they move dozens or even hundreds of miles. They are magnificent animals up close and, I’m told, eat between 100 and 140 deer per year! Thousands of trial miles later, haven’t seen another except for tracks. Happy New Year and thanks again for your reviews! Blessings to your family.

I have weird ears and could never get a pair of Earbuds to fit without memory foam or cone shaped tips. But these were the best I could find and I'm rather impressed with them.
However the audio quality isn't as good as regular headphones or earbuds, but the perks like the water resistance and being able to hear your surroundings are absolutely wonderful.

Loving my Aeropex headphones - I've had them for 3 months, run around 250km with them and LOVE them - like CR said I can hear traffic on small country roads I run on, but also the nature around me on the trails. Just wonderful - my favorite music plus hearing the birds. How dreamy..
agree on the 3 taps to go back a track - need to be some kind of Einstein/Houdini/Copperfield to make that work 😂

A running headset review from Edd is the biggest quality seal for the product, NASA-level assessment. Why? His sound expertise/ musical interlude flying hours + being an actual runner, makes him an important connoiseur.

I tend to listen to Podcasts with mine, particularly The Drop running podcast, and they sound amazing. Like you said, the music quality, particularly low bass, just doesn’t sound as good. I used to run in a pair of Beats, but I appreciate hearing other people and traffic. Probably one of the best running purchases this past year.

I got these on sale. My old aftershokz air years ago died after a few months and the replacement same. I’m hoping this one is more durable as i use it for my long runs and trail hikes. The lower ip rating of the pro with the lack of storing music data is not worth the extra price as other reviewers point out.

Great review as always Edd, cheers.
Do you listen to your music via a streaming service or downloaded MP3’s ?
the only reason I ask is I use a Mighty Audio player with Deezer and it’s a cracking bit of kit that means I can leave my phone at home, I’m sure its the only bit of tech on the market that allows this.
May well get a pair of the reviewed Openrun Shokz to pair with it.
On a side note I’ve had a run in my newly arrived Asics Magic Speed’s following your review, think I really like them after my first run.
Real Endorphin Speed feel to them for me, maybe better. I just can’t work the foam out as at times it feels firm and others on the soft side, best upper ever for me ever though👍
so as always for me your shoe review directly mirrors my first impression’s.
Keep up the great work, thanks.

My concern with these which is stopping me is the silicone outer shell . Being in a tropical country , the longevity is in question as rubber here tends to get sticky / oily and crumble in time . Im sure it will last long but with my lifestyle ive gone through 5 headsets (different brands of course due to losing one (my fault) or malfunctions). I actually really want them but scared to experiment as they due cost a pretty penny.

as putting an ordinary earphone inside the ear

They specifically asked me to do it. Part of the agreement for making the video. It was also an attempt to say it as many times as I could. Which I was successful.

How many gb of memory do they have? What's that? None? Gotta carry a phone or something to use them? No thanks. I like the sound quality in the testers I've tried, but I don't want to carry an additional device to listen to mp3s or radio. Does that mean I have to get a watch with music storage? It's only money!

    • @EDDBUD

@@EDDBUD After...I mean Shokz, had one made for swimming that included storage. Dunno if they still offer it. There are a lot of off brands you can load mp3s on, but I don't know about the quality of the sound. Af...Shokz still seems to be the gold standard for active use bone conduction sound quality.
