  • My son recently asked me to build him a floating bed frame. He also wanted some LED lighting underneath. I decided that was not enough, so I added some hidden storage as well. And the finished project was awesome.
This is an easy full-sized floating bed diy project that you should be able to build in a weekend.
This design will fit a variety of full sized mattress brands just incase your mattress is a little bigger or smaller.
I also included the cut list within the video to make it even easier to copy.
Enjoy your new diy floating bed.

I’ve done the whole construction pine floating bed frame for my son before. While it is relatively inexpensive, It is not practical long term. It’s heavy, it warps, it droops, and it’s just too soft and screws and even lag bolts, which I used, eventually pull out, especially if your kids are floppers or jumpers. I learned there is a reason they use hardwood. I love the cut list and the design, I’ll just suggest that anyone who does this, spring for the hardwood planks or even use reclaimed hardwood from other projects.

Great project. As always, appreciate you starting what went wrong as well. Would have liked to seen a headboard attached to it as well. Because I can see something similar like this for your guest bedroom.
Update; hey folks and guess what He's actually uploaded another video showing creating the headboard. Nice

I’m building my base out of engineered lvls, I figured the weight of those would give a real good sturdy base and once you square all edges sand and paint you wouldn’t really be able to tell.. for the door I’m just gonna cut two 45s short to long so it swings open and throw some hinges and just trim out the lvls… hopefully all goes to plan!

Put an ice cube into each of the indentations in the carpet, by the time they are completely melted, the carpet will have rebounded to its original volume 😉

Good project I might make a 6 inch overhang to make the accessibility to the storage better but all in all a 10.good job

Ty! I remember when I built my first deck, I had that problem with an uneven joist because it was resting on soft grass haha I had to put board under it. Ahh

Aww! Your son has gotten so big! I remember when he was a wee little nibblet! ❤️ The bed turned out pretty great btw. Just the sort of thing teenaged boys would love. The hidden storage is genius! I think I may have just made a cut out for the handles instead of putting knows on though. Just a thought.

Thank you very much MissBeans. A cut out is a good idea, but I will leave that option up to my son.

i have a floating mattress look and provides a soft edge to hit over that wood fascia.
i ran three stacks of wood 7inches high length wise, with three 5/8 cross braces for stability and one short stack on the right side since my bed is against the wall sideways
not to heavy and low cost, didnt do underglow but id buy a $22 car kit off amazon which is waterproof which i know would last 9 months in weather

Need wood on top before laying the mattress wouldn’t that help it not dip in the areas without support.

I think if you put those hurricane ties from the base to the floor in the bedroom. It would secure it and it would never move if you stand on the edge.

Just drill a 1" finger hole in each of the drop down hidden storage front pieces. Easier than handles 🙂

should have jumped on it for weight test, which i assume it'll fail. because it's not unreasonable for someone to add momentum onto their body weight when they approach their bed.

Getting stuff in and out of the storage looks like a pain. You should make shallow trays on ball bearing rollers to act as drawers.

    • @BoraHorzaGobuchul
      @BoraHorzaGobuchul ปีที่แล้ว

There was a video on TH-cam where a dude made convenient drawers that flipped down and then pulled forward, that was indeed cool but, if course, harder to build
