When I was much younger I loved water beds... I was also an avid bike rider... so I took some bike wheels and an old wooden column and made a head board... I cut the column in half and mounted to the wall... then I arranged the wheels to looking like the head board of an old iron bed... then pretty much did the same thing he did when making the bed frame for the water bed... I still do a lot of building... I built oak cabinets in my old house.... I also got a ton of old cedar boards and made my own parquet floor.. I’ve built a rolling island for my mother-in-law for Christmas one year from reclaimed barn wood.. I even built my youngest son’s changing table ( favorite project ever ) my wife loved how beautiful it was she wanted as a rolling island kinda like what I made for her mother with it... both have granite tops...also something just came back into my possession was a solid oak chopping block I built when I was 15 years old....and it’s also still beautiful too
Looks awesome. Only changes I would make is to have the opening on the front of the nightstands so you can reach in while still on the mattress. And the part you painted black, I would have painted it to match the color of the wall so it would give a better illusion of floating.
This turned out great! Nice work and thanks for sharing! One thing I notice a lottttt of bed frame DIYers doing, though, is using solid slats of wood under the mattress. It's important to allow the mattress to breath. I'd recommend using lots of thin slats going across instead (or anything that has some gaps for the mattress to breath), for anyone viewing this.
@@user-gc3rv6jw3n Yep! I guess if your mattress is too thin, maybe it wouldn't be as comfortable. But a lot of mattresses have built-in box spring alternatives or whatever. I built a queen-sized loft bed for my last apartment I lived in for 2 years. I used 2"-3" pieces of wood across the width of my loft bed frame and spaced them out so there was a couple or several inches between each one. My mattress was 10" thick and cost me about $300 on Amazon (Lucid brand). It was very comfortable. In summary: as long as your mattress doesn't need a box spring, it'll still be comfortable. Putting a mattress on wood slats is no different than putting it on the ground and sleeping on it, or putting it on a solid piece of wood. Good luck :)
@@legocircus Thanks! So yes it means that a matress on a wooden slat is the same as sleeping on the floor right. So that was why I am hesitant about this method.. I also dont have a matress with springs in it. I prefer foam.. ;)

Great job putting the video together. Your videography is solid, you cover so many of the important details and explain why and how certain things are done and you include product information. I wish continued success to you.
Just built this w/ some slight modifications for my Cali king but it was super easy to follow and understand KUDOS to you brother all these other videos an hour long etc etc but you boiled it down to the basics any competent handy person can follow. Jolly good 5 stars!!
when you said 2"x8" said boy that is a lot of weight; I really like your idea and I'm going to make one with a few changes but I'm going to use a 1/4" plywood in the back and use 1/2" planks on the front it should make it sturdy enough and will also cut down on the weight by at least 50%, thank you for your idea this is the best one I've seen.
I have two observations: 1 - I would have made the bed platform corners round. For me it is an elegant finish. Also just in case, if you trip over it, a square corner is more likely to cause injury. 2 - the floating night stand design didn't made sense to me. The mattress blocks the side it is facing. So, I can't access it if I am laying down. Once I am done using the tablet or laptop I would have to get up to put it away. Not good for lazy asses like me. I would leave the sides open, but I would have made the front piece a door attaching a hinge to the bottom piece. I wonder how functional it would be, but I would give it a try. Also I would have made them a little bit larger. Other than that, a beautiful build. Man, you have a gift. :))
Flecha57 I was thinking the same thing about the door hinge, put it on the side so the top can open sideways and since there would be a lamp on top of the floating night stand I would get rid of the lamp and make one built into the wall that can be turned on and off from a switch in the night stand that way you’d have space on top of the night stand with no lamp in the way

As far as I know the slatted frame is necessary for ventilation of the mattress. So when having the bed for a long time, the mattress could attract mold.
Love it! So inspired. I thinking of making the headboard higher with built-in lights and maybe led light above the headboard. Wish my husband could do stuff like that.
You should make your own business, cause you will definitely make a ton of sales and youtube will help advertise your products and will show the quality of your build
I would definitely decorate my whole house with his furniture! He could make soo much money and he already has the platform and advertising for it through youtube
Just purchased the plans and can't wait to make this hopefully by the weekend. Do you think 1x8s would be fine on the headboard since the 3/4" plywood is strong or do you feel that the 2x8 is necessary?
I have been looking to buy a new bed recently and after not finsing anything I have really liked so far I have decided on building my own again (have built one before, just not as amazing as this) and making a similar design to this, only my headboard will be a slab of Australian hardwood and will DEFINITELY have the floating side tables. I absolutely love this project, thank you so much for sharing so much of the detail on this
When using extension cords for outlets, use at least #14 AWG Wire to ensure that the wire can handle rated 15 Amps that outlets can provide. if the wire is too small, it will heat up more and set your homemade bed on fire. (Edit: this only applies for North American electrical, if you have a different electrical system, use your countries codes to determine what wire size you need)
I completed mine yesterday with some slight variations. Would love to share some pics. ** If I can be permitted to post pics, please let me know how. If you'd like I can email the before and after! Thanks DIY Creators.
@@jpm2184 I made mine a queen. The head board is 9feet wide. I lifted it off the floor maybe 4-6 inches as we are also using a box spring. I used a 6' long french cleat to mount it securely to the wall. This way you can see more of the woodwork. He wasn't kidding when he said it's heavy. It's OMG heavy. Would be best to build it in the room but I built in my garage 30 miles away and moved it in. Was almost all my buddy and I could do to get it in the room and mounted! I made the box 63 inches wide after measuring the box spring; wanted to leave some play. Should have used 61" so as to not see that space. Slip cover covers it nicely. Since the RGB LED strip has a remote control, I did not wire it into the system with the puck lights. I used door bell wire for extending the wiring and some flexible fabric tubing to clean up and secure some of the wiring on the back. If/when I do it again, I would add a third outlet beneath one end table. I would also consider mounting wireless cell phone chargers in the end tables as he did in the LED lamp project. That'd be REALLY nice! We painted the bedroom and ceiling. Mounted the TV over the dresser, scrubbed the carpets. New rods and curtains. I made floating shelves over the bed and in the corner to match. Let me see if I can post some pics. we are very happy with it and I have requests to make another already.
@@jpm2184 most welcome. Another change I made was pocket screws instead of dowels for the floating nightstands. I'll try and watch for any questions you post here. I am not DIY Creator though!
JPM just saw the last question. I used 2x8 pine for the headboards mounted to a sheet of OSB. 2x8 for the bed frame and a 2x6 for the middle support. The cleat is 2x4 The rails on back are 2x2 The end tables are 2x10 top and bottom and 2x8 front and back. The slats and their carry are 1x3
Additional tip: You can screw velcro to the plywood of the bedframe using washer rings, and then stitch the opposite side of the velcro to the bedsheet or matress underside to prevent it from moving around it it still moves.

🙋♂️That bed is amazing🤩
Sugar Shane Mosely killing it with these bed frames!
Personalty I would bullnosed the edges of the bed. Less shin related accidents, especially for accident prone people like myself.
Great job!
Thank you.
Touch grass bro
@@Diegomtz127 what’s that?
One of the best looking beds I have ever seen
I can see myself cracking my sheen on that edge everytime I come back from the bathroom half asleep at 3 am
😆😭😁
It happens a lot! Our bed trim was 2x 8 also; cut them down to 4" and no more bumps in the night :)
I completed mine yesterday with some slight variations. Would love to share some pics. ** If I can be permitted to post pics, please let me know how. If you'd like I can email the before and after! Thanks DIY Creators.
i wanna see
@@jpm2184 I made mine a queen.
Oh! And I did not install the lip around the bed frame/box.
The cleat is 2x4
The rails on back are 2x2
The end tables are 2x10 top and bottom and 2x8 front and back.
The slats and their carry are 1x3
Additional tip: You can screw velcro to the plywood of the bedframe using washer rings, and then stitch the opposite side of the velcro to the bedsheet or matress underside to prevent it from moving around it it still moves.
I’m calling my carpenter as soon as all this has finished!!😍😍😍
