Each and every one of those musicians is a virtuoso. But the wonder is that not only can they be individually extraordinary, but they can also work so closely together. What skill.
When it transcends the ridiculous........ WOW!!! In early 80's I had a twice-per-week show on a non-profit FM station in which I'd put percussionists in the spotlight; there was a sudden passionate pursuit of Pierre Moerlen's music when I'd found Expresso in the station's library....... On one show I'd aired "Jingo Lo Ba" by the composer Babatunde Michael Olatunji , followed by Santana's version and Gong's version :) I've often used Pierre's albums as sources of learning, especially in terms of time signatures and as for analytical listening, Gong contributed quite a lot. Thanks for sharing this gem. The entire band is fantastic; from this guitarist's POV that guitar lead part is an achievement :) Awesome players.
I remember the only time I've seen Pierre Moerlen's Gong in Italy, in 1982 or 1983. Then I've seen Pierre with the Brand X in June 1997. And finally I've known Benoit on January, the 17th 2012 at New Morning for the hommage à Faton Cahen!
Saw this played live in 76/77 at the Bristo Street Edinburgh University students' union. Fantastic! However, for the life of me, I cannot remember whether or not Holdsworth was on lead guitar for that gig. Can any Pixies out there help me?

Un grand merci pour, Pierre Moerlen, Pierre RIP
stunning
What an incredibly complex, but beautiful piece of music!
Apik tenang memang maine grup gong ikih....
