Chad is definitely awesome on this song. He is one of my favorite drummers. Of course Tony was such a masterful drummer with so much feeling and dynamics. He left us way too young at age 51. And now Allan Holdsworth has left us and he will surely be missed too. RIP Allan and Tony :(

Astonishing in every way. What a band….drummer kills, bassist is incredibly tasty and funky, keyboard player has a great feel and love his patch sound, and Holdsworth is just insane. Just discovered him even though I’ve known OF him for 30 years from guitar mags. Incredible band. Musicians of the highest caliber who can still play from the heart.
Killer band here but Holdsworth always surrounded himself with immense talent throughout his career. I’m the same as you, I knew about Allan from my brother’s guitar magazines in the mid 1980’s and my brother played the odd songs track but as a preteen, it was so far beyond me. It wasn’t until just before he passed that I “discovered” him fir myself in my late 30’s. I found out that my brother used to see him pretty much every time he was touring LA since the 90’s. @@SudsRegal Great comment. My experience exactly - I expect I am a lot older than you. Although I'd heard about Holdsworth for some reason he just passed me by. I actually saw him live here in UK about 2013(?) but it left me a bit cold - seemed too technical. After he died I saw the Beato tribute and decided I had to check Holdsworth out thoroughly. I bought the box set of his remastered solo albums (worth every penny) and just absorbed myself into his music - best thing I've ever done. I never tire of his albums and the amazing thing is that they don't contain any 'fillers' which is extremely rare for an album. Each piece of music is there for a reason imho. I had seen parts of Allan’s instructional video multiple times over the years, but a week ago, I finally got it regarding a central concept/ability behind his playing: visualization. In the video, he shows diagrams of scales. I always interpreted the diagrams as Allan showing us how to do what what he does. But that’s not it at all. He’s showing us what he sees. As chords changed, he could visualize applicable scales immediately over the entire fretboard. This puts his other-worldly ability in perspective for me. I can hear the next note or group of notes I’m going to play at any given moment, but I can’t see a map of all of the possibilities that are available at each moment. I think this is how chess masters operate. I loved Allan’s playing from the first time I heard UK’s “Nevermore” on WNEW FM in the NY area in the 70’s. His genius and art were and are a precious gift.
And he knows this song inside-out, having been AH's keyboardist for years and on the original recording of the song back in the day with Tony Williams. He does a most excellent solo here. Definitely underrated. I like when he sneaks in little tributes to Herbie on that Tony Williams album especially.

@@cameronlarsen2021 Yes, after my post I later found the whole concert on YT, which I assume is from the DVD. My favorite AH show was when he played at the Keystone in Palo Alto (California) in '82 or '83. Lots of great shows at that venue, long closed down now. I bought my I.O.U. Looking forward to the next opportunity to see him live has always been a major motivator for me just in taking inspiration for life. I was talking to my brother (more a rocker than me, but we both loved Holdsworth, rock, blues, and lots of other types of music), about another more recent sad loss; of Neil Peart, and we were appreciating the fact that Rush was being played and Neil remembered lovingly everywhere from breaks in Amy Goodman's great daily news show, to all types of sporting events, which is very nice. By contrast, when Allan, the one of a kind genius, and greatest electric guitarist humanity has produced died, I went to a show I think less than a month later at a jazz club, where the pre-show announcer mentioned the sad loss of one of our greats, Larry Coryell, who had passed a couple months before Allan. Nary a mention of the greatest. That angered me but what are you going to do? I thought about shouting something about it, like "Let's not forget we more recently lost the greatest guitarist ever; Allan Holdsworth!" but was too shy, not wanting to make a scene and be the crazy guy shouting a name most of the club probably wouldn't even have known (it was a Larry Carlton show). But there it is; nothing wrong with Rush or Coryell, in fact I love them, but Allan, the absolute genius, master, and inventor of the most modern and brilliant approach to electric guitar, who played 300 seat clubs after a lifetime of putting out masterpieces and playing incendiary, impossibly great shows, remains relatively obscure; a rare treasure very few realize the value of. Good to see everyone here that does know the value of what we lost, and thank goodness we have the recordings!
Everyone sounds great here. Chad is as solid as they come. As I listen to this, I once again realize the genius of Alan Holdsworth. A definite one of a kind guitarist who has influenced many. Finally, a shout out to Jimmy and Alan Pasqua, two amazing and supportive musicians. All around, this is a great rendition of Tony's tune.
Learning guitar and playing for many years I am thankful the most for getting to hear and see a handful of out of this world musicians. Allan is at the top of that list.
I agree. A lot of Fred's but this is THE one (besides the original of course). The bass/drum groove is so great, Pasqua and Holdsworth both play legendary, unforgettable solos here.

Watched it again tonight for the who-knows-th time, and man, I´ve been a Holdsworth fan since 1975 and still this here "Fred" amazes me!
This is a breath taking piece of music every time I hear. RIP Allan!
i saw this show.....Yoshi's - had a glass of wine with Alan before the show at the bar. It was cool. Super cool cat.....RIP. Of course I bought.....;)
Super pianiste Alan Pasqua!!
I always preferred Rhodes-style pianists like Pasqua, Corea, and Hancock !!!###
I was there too! Less than 10 ft away from the Master. RIP Allan, thank you so much for your music!
Allan was so out there creatively, the brilliant side of genius.I was 1st
Introduced to Allan in ‘75 from Tony William’s’ Believe It’album.
It WASN'T "Tony's tune" - Holdsworth wrote and arranged it.
Allan's tune
Learning guitar and playing for many years I am thankful the most for getting to hear and see a handful of out of this world musicians. Allan is at the top of that list.
What a spiritual Fiesta, so hard to play Your own language on this magnificent instrument.
Words escape me. Just brillant musicians. Warm, tasteful__just a pleasant ride
Dang!!! That was a brilliant performance of that tune! Chad played marvelously!
My god Allan is just killing it here 🙏
Great performance Tony must be smiling. Tony & Allan RIP
Beautiful song. Reminds me of Zoot Allures by Zappa.
Yeah
and Wackerman and Bozzio drum clinics we're really great stuff too.
What a loss to never have a new Allan Holdsworth record to look forward to. This is one of my favorite tunes.
It sounds like he channels it from another dimension. Beautiful!
Cinco Charms he propably does
He does.
i just adore how much allan is enjoying the drumming by the end and how effortlessly they all lock in.
Chad, you sound great!!!! Big time.
After 44 years since I first heard Allan's playing & been listening, this is one of my favourite numbers.
Joyful
What a wonderful musician he was. What a band! And what can one say with words?....
Simply unbelievable playing by all - Holdsworth was an absolute genius.
Очень вкусная команда, фирмой прёт со всех щелей, БРАВО!!!
The original I take it!!!
Very very nice moite bom ,great muscians and of off course alan , R.I.P , Grazi for sharing , caio .
Superb! Best live version I've heard.
Happy Birthday Mr.Holdsworth
Quite amazing!! Chad Wackerman seems to be giving a lesson in how to play like mad without overpowering everyone esle. All of them - IMPRESSIVE!!
Oh, that sense of release of tension at 6:55.......into that GROOVE, Chad!!!!
the notes Allan plays that exist are understandable. All the notes that he plays that don't exist is the enigma.
Chad Wackerman is one of my favorites for sure. Especially when he was with Allan. Amazing.
Proud to say I was at this show, 2nd row, right in front of Allan! (Yoshi's Oakland, CA)
The Best "Fred" recorded... All musicians are in theirs best moods and feelings here ! !
I agree. A lot of Fred's but this is THE one (besides the original of course). The bass/drum groove is so great, Pasqua and Holdsworth both play legendary, unforgettable solos here.
@@jamiepastman5594 Yessss ! Absolutely.
Those freaking hands!! And ability of course. How is it even possible to improvise at this level???!!! Simply incredible!
