    We spent the day and night of the hurricane parked in our pickup under a school front drop-off covering. The building helped protect us from the wind and the pillars helped deflect flying debris.

      Yes, any large building works pretty well, especially if you can drive all the way around it. This way you can get shelter from the wind.

    Oh this is giving me anxiety! I'm glad you were ok. We live in Clearwater and were evacuated. We had a motel in NPR but were evacuated from that, due to expected storm surge. We ended up in a truck stop that had gas!! Never did I ever think I would do that and it was frightening! We headed back home and found a war zone. NO power, NO water, NO food, NO ice, NO motels or anything open. We were without everything for 9 days. It's so wonderful when people around other areas give hot food and a few groceries. I think that saved our lives. Our place flooded with Debbie, in Zone D, and Milton did us in. We are moving out. We were hit with Irma, where we lived, and Rick Scott did an absolutely amazing job. This was horrible. We finally found FEMA and they are helping us through. Floridians need to think next time they vote. NO ONE should go through what we went through

      Sorry to hear that Mary, Polk County is close to the beach but seems not to have to much damage, most hurricanes. I have heard a lot of people throwing in the towel though. Prayers yall get it figured out.

      Yeah here in NPR the Anclote River flooded. We didn’t expect that AFTER the storm. He talks about the TGH garage closed. It’s because all the employees needed to be in there. I worked through both hurricanes (as EMS) and my station in Seffner was hit hard. Dispatch was in the dark until Tuesday morning. 112 mph winds at the station. I just hope we’re done with storms for a while. Hope you are ok. My aunts are in Tarpon Springs on the waterfront. They are selling after all this.

    I rode the storm out in Thonotosassa and I have a newer double wide trailer. It was no match for Milton as my carport was blown away, my shed had severe wind damage that tore the vinyl siding off, flooding up to my stairs, trees that were completely uprooted, roof damage and we had our back window completely blown out. We ended up getting a hotel room near Busch Gardens two days after Milton came through and stayed for 8 days till power was restored then went another 5 days after we got home without WiFi and cable. It could have been much worse.

    I am at 1154 here and I don't know what time it is in the video. That's a timestamp. I figure around this time, we were in the car, with a low tire, headed from Wesley Chapel to Lutz. It seems like we got there at 2:30 but maybe it was earlier than that and that's just when we finished all the preparation that we were doing in the house we were in. Good thing somebody told us there was a well. I would not have thought to fill buckets of water, But my brother also lifted a queen size mattress over a really large truck. And I slept on that on the floor for a few days. I think the power went down around 8:30 it was like right after landfall. Which is kind of strange because we were inland. We hadn't had a bad storm since Irma. But we left a nice non-evac zone in Pinellas county because I wanted to be somewhere where there might be electricity. Okay so there wasn't any for 6 days but at least it wasn't too hot. Honestly it wasn't hot. We were supposed to be in a hotel but someone miscalculated. And I thought we were going further but I guess we weren't. Anyway our reservation ended the day the storm began so you can see why I might want to see what it was like in a parking garage. If that's where you're going

    That was hilarious about the Spanish channel! OF COURSE the media people have to stand in the spot where the wind is intense to report LIVE instead of stepping back four feet out of the elements. Typical media. I think a parking garage is a great place to hunker down and I have often thought of that. It's about a solidly built concrete structure as you're ever going to get. I'm surprised more people do not do it.

    • @CaptainMike1965

      I agree, the mayor made a public annoucement, that all would be open and free. It will be my go to place on most storms. Tho the next one I hope to have the boat working so I can go in after the storm to see the damage by water. That should be amazing.

    The first Tampa General parking garage was closed off because the hospital's parking is not public. The PUBLIC parking garages in downtown Tampa are the ones that were free and open during Milton. The City of Tampa was not saying that you could park in any garage, just the City of Tampa managed parking facilities. The ones by Amelie Arena, the Aquarium, the cruise ports, and dotted throughout downtown. The ones in Hyde Park, WestShore Plaza, and International Plaza are private. IIRC correctly, the Tampa International Airport garages were not included in the free parking, either.
    Also, Davis Island always floods severely with hurricanes. Yes, you could have weathered the storm in one of the TGH garages, but you'd be stuck on the island until the waters receded enough for your truck to drive through without waterlogging your enging.

    • @CaptainMike1965
      @CaptainMike1965  7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, if I could have gotten in TGH, I planned to stay until the water went down. However as you probably know, the water actually went down during the storm.

    I live in Cape Coral, direct hit from Ian CAT5. We drove inland to shelter at a high school. There are no parking ramps in Cape. I’m not sure if here is one in Ft. Myers either. We rode out Milton at our house. Didn’t sleep all night , the wind was bad. Surge came up about 2 1/2feet over the sea wall.
