Zephyrhills FL, here. We had lots of wind over 100mph at Zhills airport. Lots of flooding from 15+inches of rain. Many houses and other homes had 3 to 4 ft of water in and around them. Too many trees down to count. Parts of roofs missing. Fences all blown to pieces. Power was out for most of us at least 5 days or more. I'm glad the storm wasn't any stronger! Great video thanks!!
EXCELLENT Production! I spent 2 weeks running from both Helene and Milton- experiencing heartbreak twice, as I found my home uninhabitable after Helene with even more damage after Milton. Now I see what caused that terrific destruction.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME footage, Joey! Those peak winds in St. Petersburg, with the super dense rainfall, looked incredible!!! Definitely some of the best MILTON shots out there!
How did some of the gusts you experienced compare to those in the video? I was going to set up in Bradenton but ended up heading around to St Pete last minute but i wondered if the winds were realized there.
@@JoeyKrastel They were pretty comparable to what you saw in St. Pete for the most part but there were a few stronger gusts about 120mph here for sure. So maybe slightly stronger here. The backside was the strongest part.
Bradenton here as well. My neighbor flies kites and drones so he has some windspeed measuring gear. Said his highest recording on Palma Sola Bay was 117mph. Further inland another friend manages a hotel where some fema people were staying. They were constantly measuring windspeed and at one point read it at 125mph. This was over close to I75 out 53rd Ave.
Absolutely brilliant footage. By far the best I've seen and thanks for keeping the camera still. You risked life and limb to get this out to us, thanks so much.
Mr K... AGAIN >> delicious videos. Just don't kill yourself with documenting this stuff. I have always loved the sound and sight of a serious thunderstorm. I found numerous sites on the net 4 free that play T storms for 4, 8 and even 10hrs that I go to sleep to on a nightly basis. I know you're about the hurricanes... but I just could NOT imagine driving home, to my home that isn't there anymore.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the sentiment also. Funny enough, the wind and rain sounds were tough to get through on the final cut. I bet I fell asleep 6 or 7 times doing the final edit lol.
Watching this footage again, on my 65 inch TV, this is really fantastic stuff, all the blue flashing, the stunning winds and relentless roar from them, reminds me a lot of Hurricane Wilma(2005) but the electricity here never went off, impressive
Thank you so much! Getting the right mix of getting close and in the elements and not having the wind eat up the mic or the rain ruin shots is toughhh. Luckily we were in a good spot for filming
@JoeyKrastel I believe you f8lmed in a great location! The building was clearly built well, and the porch was facing away from wind. This limits the potential of wind and debris exposure. I had to subscribe because of how well this was done!
That Longhorn Steakhouse & Mission BBQ area is in my hometown, you were on the corner of Cortez and US-41. We got slammed pretty good here, trees down everywhere, fences were destroyed, some people had their homes destroyed just by the wind alone.
The Tampa area has been soooooo incredibly lucky the last 3 years, really since Ian with not seeing a full powerhouse wind event. This one was different and luckily wasn't any worse like it couldv'e been. The forecasts were on point with the weakening and dry air intrusion which definitely helped keep damages out of max potential. Hope you faired ok!
Pinellas County really dodged a bullet with the storm surge from Hurricane Milton! Yes, there were high waves, and likely some seawall and pier damage with Hurricane Milton that you would expect in any hurricane. However, another high storm surge immediately after all the damage caused by the storm surge from Hurricane Helene would have been disastrous for Pinellas County.
At 40:43 someone mentioned that your intake on your vehicle is still above the flood water. Just something to consider next time... water can also enter the engine through the exhaust. It takes longer to get enough water in the engine through the exhaust to get hydrolocked, but if you were driving through all of St Pete back towards Tampa right after a hurricane then watching the water level on your exhaust is just as important as the intake. Bonus tip: do NOT ever attempt to restart an engine that has died via hydrolock. Only once a mechanic or someone competent enough to get all the water out; should you attempt to start it. Water cannot be compressed therefore you'll just destroy all of your gaskets and possibly, other further damage to the engine
My neighborhood in Bradenton got messed up pretty good. Part of my neighbors roof landed on my roof and punched holes straight through to the living room. Looked like a war zone with all the massive trees down and debris everywhere. The sound of that wind was terrifying.
The most chilling thing i heard was from a Bradenton resident who said when they lost power and had nothing but silence and darkness and the wind was still howling around 100mph, it sounded like the agonizing screams of a thousand souls going past their home. 😮
We're never evacuated but we did for Milton. Thankfully our home was spared and our neighborhood seems to have not been hit too badly. But, we definitely did not want to be here for that one and after seeing these videos, I'm so glad we hauled azz!
Yeah i was too. Even the umbrellas which i'm pretty sure were reinforced to the ground, but the building and awning that we took cover behind and under definitely helped block the bulk of the winds.
My apartment complex is a brick building so it felt safe overall. However, two ceilings caved in that could have been fatal had anyone been in those rooms. Then we have Roof damage on every Apartment and big Tree limbs were torn off several large trees 🌲 we have in front. If they had flown off they could have smashed through our front windows. And we had one tall tree 🌲 topple over and several Gates in the back were knocked down as well. We also lost power at 8 pm for an entire week afterwards. Then I had to throw out over $100 worth of Food that went bad in my Freezer and Fridge! Still I am grateful no one was hurt and I made it through a Cat 3 Hurricane 🌀 alright! Thankfully we didn’t get any flooding! The lady whose ceiling caved in had to throw out her big couch 🛋️, chairs 🪑 and large Table because they were ruined by water damage. So good riddance to that damn Storm called Milton! What a stupid and worthless Storm !
I live here in Florida. I drove into Sarasota the Tuesday before the hurricane to move wheelchair nursing home patients out, then I drove back there Thursday to return them back into Sarasota. Lake Wells area. There's no way possible that was a Cat 3 hurricane. I've lived here since '94. I assisted the federal prison system in hurricane relief and rescue operations several times, including Andrew which took down the fence at MCC Miami and anything standing for miles. In Sarasota I did see classic indications of tornadoes. One side of the street ripped to shreads, the other side untouched. But whatever, whenever hit Sarasota was a blessing. Being a coastal city, they simply weren't ready. It should be in the Florida constitution that all new electrical power lines shall be installed underground. That way, the day after a storm, we've got power.
That must have been some intense footage! Category 3 hurricanes are no joke, and the eyewall is often where the strongest winds and heaviest rains are found. It’s both terrifying and mesmerizing to see nature at its most powerful. How do you feel watching such raw displays of force?
The eye went over my mother’s house in Sarasota, fortunately the home did not get compromised and everyone was safe. Thank God for the dry air intrusion.
I'm in flood zone B in south Tampa. People got flooded from the flash flooding and not surge. It was crazy. Never seen it so bad before. And Helene devastated zone A neighborhoods all around me. Til this day, there's still furniture and torn-out drywall by the streets everywhere.
Black Dog at my Door and the Wind begins to Howl! When the Levee breaks I got No place to stay! Mother Nature 🌬️ got No Mercy on me! Mother Nature going to be the Death of me! Nowhere to run to and nowhere to hide. Sometimes I think I’m just barely Alive!
From my view on my porch here in St Pete, it was the gnarliest weather I have ever seen. I have a quick video uploaded with some amazing power lines arching like mad and the wind driven rain flooding our retention pond and neighborhood. I’d if you can still see it. I’m clearly no pro at this. 😂
@rodcoulter997 Because the other 363 days of the year are rather nice and sunny! But, admittedly, storms are getting more intense and summers more hot. 🤦🏼♀️ Weather is changing….🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
