You should do a clear coat on top. I painted my sisters countertops with regular paint. Two coats paint with two coats of poly. At least 10 years ago, still looks good
Paula, Can you give more details such as type of paint and poly..Did you sand between all of the coats.I need to do my 1950s counters and do not have the cash to do alot. Thanks
I was a bathtub and shower and countertop refinisher for 35 years. For damage like that use polyester glazing putty. It looks and smells like Bondo but Bondo is made for cars and it's kind of cheesy and stays flexible forever so you can use it on a door panel or whatever. Glazing putty turns into stone practically. And it mixes and applies the same you put on a little extra than you need and sand it down and maybe give it a skim coat and then sand it down and then it's perfect. Just be careful not to get it on your hands or your fingernails because it will cure quick and you will be wearing that stuff for a couple of months.
@@BryanBuilt also use tack rags before you apply any coat and it really picks up all that dust. A regular rag just pushes it around. Before I sprayed something I would always wipe it down with a high quality paper towel with a little lacquer thinner on it and then I would tack it off with a tack rag. That way it's decontaminated from oils and stuff, like when we touch it, and then it's pretty much dust free. You'll never get rid of all the dust. It's impossible. But it won't be like a prickly pear. The way I did all these counters is just hang up piece of 9x12 plastic all the way around the room and then use paper out from the surface and just cover everything up and then I would spray it. You can spray everything that way cabinets counters everything. And it would take you one day with a sprayer not three or four. That would be torture for me. You got to get busy and hustle but I did it many hundreds of times. But unfortunately I have degenerative disc disease from consuming so much diet Pepsi and not taking care of myself over many years and just some genetic things I guess. Now my back is ruined. Bathtub and countertop or finishing is just so hard on your back. I'm sure you found that out. Eventually I stopped doing kitchens. It was just too hard on me. I use an aliphatic acrylic urethane. No primer needed. Prep it spray it walk away let it cure. You got to be real careful though. You got to have proper safety equipment you can really harm yourself with this stuff.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just bought a house and the counter tops look exactly like these, prior to the redo. I did not know what I was going to do because I cannot afford to replace them and they look AWFUL! I want to make them white, too, so I will be viewing this video several times to get up my courage. 🙂
your welcome! I'm actually working on a 3rd video with this product right now that you may want to wait for some more tips! I did a 2nd video where I tested the durabilty and wasnt completly impressed so I decided to give it one more try
We have this product on our countertop and I find that it can stain easily and over time it will wear down. (2 years you’ll start seeing it chip) I recommend having a back up can of paint for touch ups. This kind of treatment is not my first choice but if your budget is tight then I totally get it.
Thanks for the info! I believe you sometimes the consumer grade stuff isnt the best but when the budget is tight sometimes you have to use it. Ill probably do a follow up around 1 year to see how its holding up. Thanks for watching!
True. Back up paint, same can, it spoiled quickly. Also when I tried getting the store to match the original color, it was not a perfect color match and when I used it on the counter to try touching it up, I ended up having to repaint the whole counter again. Ugh!
When you added water putty to the patch I admit I actually said 'noooo!'. The pressed wood substrate soaked up the moisture like a sponge, that's why it took so long to dry. Bondo is a much stronger option, it is definitely longer lasting than water putty, it dries quickly and it will not cause the pressed wood substrate to swell. Those paints for counter tops are great for rental properties. There's also an option that adds a bit of texture, it's also very forgiving . Also very helpful on bathroom vanities. I simply added another layer of paint after each tenant departed.
Amen on the Bondo as a better hole filler. Also big box stores frequently sell damaged laminate ctops for 5 bucks. I have a small kitchen and my Lowe's always have damaged rights and lefts with chips or bits of backsplashes broken off. I was fine cutting my 6 and 8 foot pieces out of damaged 12 footers. I was all in 75 bucks for new black c-tops for my kitchen. The majority of the cost being for the professional c-tops shop cutting to length and glueing the end caps on and final trimming.
I strongly suggest you use Tac-Cloths as final prep (just before paint is applied). You will be amazed at what is picked up. Very inexpensive, you will love them and start using them on all furniture, etc, before paint and probably between coats.
Back in the 90's and early 2000's Rustoleum sold oil based melamine paint that I used all the time for counters and cupboards , it held up great as long as you didn't cut on it . I was a student and the $10 for a litre can was affordable . I even painted my waterbed with it .
I have good success with Wooster Brush foam brushes! They are more dense than craft sponge brushes and can get a very smooth finish! Use fine steel wool to sand right before the final coat. Placing some press on floor tiles to the backsplash would be a great contrast addition and not too expensive!
I did a faux granite on the counters, when we remodeled our last camper. The only place it didn’t hold up was on the dinette table, but I hadn’t prepped it properly-it was my first ever attempt. Now in our present camper where we are only needing to do cosmetic work, I want the stone look on the countertops! 😍 AND I love your shirt!!! As a law enforcement wife and mom, you got it! 👍🏼

I did this with the Rust-Oleum countertop kit which came with flakes and top coat. It came out pretty good for what it is however I opted to remove the layer of laminate topping before applying. I had thw glossier kind of laminate that was unable to be scuffed even with 80 grit on orbital. That is why I peeled it all off and applied product directly to the particle board. It's held up for a few years now
About a month ago, I did an epoxy, three coat on a bath vanity, sanded between coats with 320, then 400 wet, and a final with 1000 wet on a flat rigid block to flatten...what started out looking like a sort of orange peel from the last coat, after sanding with 1000 wet, it looked more like knock-down on a mini scale. I liked the result, though it was not planned. It felt flat and grippy at the same time. There was a corner which had peeled away from the original contact cement, so I super-glued it first, tested it and it held up very well. Now, I don't see it at all. I was going to try to buff it with a small auto buffer and compound, but decided to leave it for a while, see how it did as is for a few months. So far so good. My one regret is that I did not use a complimentery color on the last coat and create a speckled look. I think it would work.
@@BryanBuilt Used the Rustoleum countertop stuff, and now it still looks good. I did see a small area where the surface seems flatter than the rest and not sure if I missed it initially, or it has worn from cleaning...guess I'll know if it gets bigger. Use some all purpose bondo for the counter repair, it stinks but dries fast. And if you have to wear a respirator, always open the windows first. Read the instructions on the can. It doesn't matter how big or cheap the job is, safety first. Good job.
I only just now saw this video because it came up in my feed. I’m glad it did! I have a couple older rental properties and the countertops definitely need updated. Hello just a thing I feel like saying. I've done this on some older and now my newer home.. A it's Brown Paper Lunch Bags floor or countertop treatment. You can add some drops of colored paint I've done plain, grey and black. They turn out amazing. Just thought I'd share, I tried it out on a few different larger pieces of wood so I could practice the technique but I haven't found anyone whom has seen them who hasn't liked them.
Impressive! I'm inspired to do this in the winter when I can have the house opened. Well explained and all supplies are shown and easily found at store. Subscribed.
For that patch all purpose bondo - the kind you mix the white hardener into - dries rock solid in 10-15 mins. Pull the bondo really tight. 45mins to and hour later even out completely with a tight coat of MH Ready Patch. Maybe apply a 3rd coat of that in 10 mins. You want the patch at the same exact level as the counter. Sand lightly.
Awesome video! I was contemplating if I should buy a new countertop for our rental, only because it’s like 40 yrs old. I am now going to paint it thanks to your great video.😊
I would love to try this too! I want black counter tops with white cabinets. I have already painted the vanities in each bathroom white. The counter top in the kitchen is a challenge though. The area behind the faucet is warped due to a previous leak from the previous owners. So replacing the counter top in the kitchen will have to be done. Thank you for the video inspiration!
Just viewing it on the video, I think it looks lovely. I don't like granite or imitation granite countertops anyway, definitely prefer a smooth, clean, monochromatic finish. You did a great job!
I am planning on doing the same thing except after letting it dry a few days I will apply a sealant , then the surface will be mirror Smooth and sealed. That's why your counter tops feel rough .
Yep, sand down the burned Formica, Bondo, sand the Bondo, prime and paint. But Durham's is good too, love that stuff and a lot cheaper than Bondo when the solution doesn't require Bondo water resistance. I've rebuilt lathe and plaster with Durham's and they're super strong when done.
From this stand point, it looks beautiful. Granted I'm not in the unit to see n feel how it came out but it looks good enuff that I'm gonna give it a try on my counter tops! Thanx n gr8 job 👍
Looks so much better than drab yellow. I used melamine paint on my kitchen cupboards more than twenty years ago. It did the trick until l had a new kitchen. As long as its sanded to give a key for the paint to stick, and in the uk we use Sugar Soap, degreaser as well. I will be watching all your videos from now on ...
Thanks for watching. Not sure yet We have a long term tenant there I went in after 6 months and they looked good . I will have to wait until we have a call or they move out. Im not sure about a topcoat I tried a topcoat on another video and it turned a yellow color
It looks good. I painted mine. 2 years ago. It's coming up in places because of cleaning products. Leave touch up paint. Or do marbling later. I miss my 70's orange counter top underneath. If it's starts peeling off I will strip it off and paint the other orange to match😂. OR just keep do touch up.
Do you have suggestion on how to lift a cast iron sink out. Its a Kohler 33" and probably weighs 137+ lbs. I thought of an engine hoist but due to legs can't get close enough to sink. Thanks. Your video is great. I'm going to refinish my formica top this way!
Used this on some of our rentals. If the tenant uses liquid cleaner not anything abrasive or harsh, this could last. Otherwise it's not as long lasting as new laminate.
I think if you had used a foam roller, you would have gotten a smoother finish. Your paint brush had a lot of texture, which is good for walls, but not so good for smooth surfaces.
Havent had a chance to follow up but i will here pretty soon ill try to update . The color is silverado sage by magnolia homes but we mixed it in behr satin
I used 6 rolls of contact paper for my countertops & I have thought of painting. Corners & around the sink are the hardest with contact paper when measuring to cut & place.
I must of done something wrong because I did this to my counter tops using the same product and its chips so easily! I have to completely redo mine now because of all the chips and scuffs in the finish. Maybe I didn't go with enough coats but I was not impressed with the durability.
I've looked into this product. They make a deep tint version with darker colors such as navy, olive green, espresso, etc. I'm planning on redoing my bathroom countertops. I'm just not sure how well this product holds up to high moisture areas. It doesn't say it can't be used in bathrooms.
Im at the beginning but I have used this product and you have to seal it or it will peel. I've used it more than once and it lasts about a year without sealer.
I love that you're totally not anxious about doing this project! I'm in the process of buying an 85 built house and need to do this! I wish you traveled.. I'd pay you to do my kitchen
@@BryanBuilt Yes we plan to do the work ourselves. Installing wide plank bleached wood flooring. Sanding off that 80s * sand finished walls*( yuck! And repainting kitchen cabinets. So I hope it goes well( ha)
Thank you for mentioning expoxy resin, especially over old laminate. The process seems about as labor intensive. The finished product is beautifu because the resin levels itself as it hardens. It lasts a long time if done correctly.
Anybody know how to smooth down just the sink of a one piece bathroom countertop? I was considering sanding the areas that are cracking (surface area not deep cosmetic) then using epoxy to seal/finish it? The material is not laminate its a poured solid of some kind. Thanks!
Thank you for posting this helpful video. I was not aware of this product.I have used the Rustoleum cement patch, out on my front walk, and it works fabulous.
This came out great to me! I have a question since it took you 3 days how much would you charge if you were doing it for a customer? I’m sure it depends on the size of the kitchen and counter tops but a ball park figure for what you just did in this video please and thanks
I used this in my house. I went with Grey color. I did not seal it and it has lasted 8 years. If anything stain you just scroll a bit and gone. The only word of caution is to open window or have ventilation when applying. Strong smell.
Interesting. Durability is the question but not a bad alternative. Put fan in window to draw fumes out. People say to use poly clear coat, same question about durability but lots of potential I think
@@easyvocalharmony5680 hey I'm back to stand myself corrected, we always work with the same brand, on kitchen cabinets, and we always use foam rollers, and the outcome is always smooth. But now a client preferred we used paint they bought themselves, and it is more a sticky paint, and this one also gets the orange peel skin look wen you apply it with a foam roller. So it completely depends on what kind of paint you use. I wanted to let you know. We started to use soft brushes, and that gave a smooth finish with that paint. The only thing is that you know how to use a brush without getting brush strokes then, I hear a lot off people having problems with that wen they start to use brushes on furniture
do up apply paint thinner after sanding to clean it more? Great vid on resurfacing. the final presentation looks great for the rental. and you saved a lot of $ versuses having a contractor do it. i use to work in apartments so i know about budgets but i wouldn't do this only if it's my rental property. The apartments would have you doing this on bad make-readys; and maybe the tub too if it's bad. too much fumes even with windows open and respirator.
Ever thought about using something like Stone Coat Epoxy? It’s a similar process and you can achieve looks similar to granite, marble and other natural materials.
Great review and great countertops! I bought the same respirator/filters and was amazed at what it filters out. I'm wondering--if you'd like a smoother paint finish--if a smooth foam roller would do the trick. I suspect the orange peel texture was produced by the nap of the roller you used.
thank you! and thanks for watching. yes the nap on my roller was the reason for my texture . i think they dont recommend a foam roller but a short nap would be best probably
I thought about putting new countertops in a short term rental, but I think I’m going to do this. I would be mad if a guest messed up a new countertop, but with this, I can just paint the messed up section.
I havent had any complaints from tenants yet so i would say pretty good but i also havent seen them since we painted them but i will update as soon as i get a chance
Hi Bryan, I enjoyed your video, the countertops are beautiful! I would greatly appreciate suggestions from you and your viewers on what to do to improve a Bath Fitter enclosure on the walls that surround my bathtub. My bathtub is not covered by a Bath Fitter product, the Bath Fitter product is only on the walls. I had a tenant who smoked in the bathroom, the nicotine ended up staining the ceiling and dripping down the walls and the Bath Fitter on the walls. I cleaned the acrylic Bath Fitter but it is still not looking good. Can an Acrylic or it may be made out of some type of plastic, a Bath Fitter be painted or can some other type of application be applied to it?
thank you for watching! Yes I would try something like a tub refinishing kit. There are usually epoxy based and pretty affordable I think that would be your best option. Or finding someone locally who does tub refinishing if its not something you want to tackle. The Fumes can be strong on all these epoxy products
Do you have an idea of how long the coating should last? We painted our countertops 5 years ago. I can't remember the brand. The counter areas over the dishwasher started coming off after 2-3 years. Yes I have lived with horrible looking counters for 2 years - I can now peel off the paint with my fingers. We are going to paint our cabinets but I'm debating if the counters should all be replaced or attempt to paint again. The counters look good everywhere except for the area around the dishwasher - obviously the coating did not like the heat.
Every handyman that I run into advises me not to do this .instead suggested I change the countertops out. I’m not doing that in a rental . But from what I can see this looks great. I might have to just do it myself..
We have laminate countertops in the mother-in-law mansion that is coming off. If I remove the laminate, can I do this on the wood underneath or does this need to be done on top of laminated surfaces?
We have found these countertop coatings not to hold up to tenants. They just can't take the abuse, like tenants leaving hot mugs, bowls, or even hot pots on the counter. If even left for a brief time, hot items will soften the paint and leave an imprint where the item was sitting. Example - we have units with both the Rustoleum and the SpreadStone coatings. In both units, tenant made themselves boiling hot tea/coffee, left the mug on the countertop for 5-10 mins to cool down, came back and lifted the mug off the counter top. In one circumstance it left an imprint, the other one it actually took the coating off in a 2 inch area. These things are great for a low budget, but tenants will need to be told up front during move in walkthrough that they CANNOT leave hot items on the countertop. We found tenants do it anyways, so we just bite the bullet and buy off the shelf laminate countertop slabs at Home Depot or IKEA and replace
best bet is probably epoxy coating. I have painted my tile before with rustoluem tile paint but did not try to do a texture or marble effect. th-cam.com/video/9fmuCY7VG4Y/w-d-xo.html
Yes for quick in a pinch update it works . I made another video testing it and the results werent amazing but im keeping my fingers crossed welll see when we get the rental back

Sand lightly.
thanks for the tips! will definitely use bondo next time
bondo is polyester and will shrink and unbond it self
Awesome video! I was contemplating if I should buy a new countertop for our rental, only because it’s like 40 yrs old. I am now going to paint it thanks to your great video.😊
I would love to try this too! I want black counter tops with white cabinets. I have already painted the vanities in each bathroom white. The counter top in the kitchen is a challenge though. The area behind the faucet is warped due to a previous leak from the previous owners. So replacing the counter top in the kitchen will have to be done. Thank you for the video inspiration!
Thank you for watching and supporting!
Nice! Im going to have to try a clear coat next time. People keep mentioning it
I have used that putting several times. It’s great for a lot of things, you definitely have to be quick.😊
Right! But its one of my favorites. Its affordable and holds up
Looks so much better than the old yellow
Hey, next time to repair the burnt area try using two part Bondo epoxy. Dries fast and you can sand it. 🙂
Thanks for the tip ill have to try it!
Yeah i love the durhams i use it on alot of things. I should do a comparison of the two types of repair material. Thanks guys !
@@nmatthew7469 yeah they are bery similar . I prefer the durhams for the price and because its not an epoxy do it doesnt smell at all .
It looks a whole lot better than mine do. Thanks for showing this!!!!
You bet! Thanks for watchin!
From this stand point, it looks beautiful. Granted I'm not in the unit to see n feel how it came out but it looks good enuff that I'm gonna give it a try on my counter tops! Thanx n gr8 job 👍
thanks for watching! I made another video and tested some things on it make sure you check it out.
When doing happy rehab work we sanded the counter down with a light sander pad. Cleaned it up and dried it overnight Then painted it
I came across your channel. Last year I accidentally burned the laminated countertop as well. Thank goodness there is a solution
Thank you for watching ! Im glad i could help 🙂
Looks awesome I used this stuff today! It holds up fine just don't put hot stuff directly on it
Thanks for the info !
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I’m curious though… has it held up? If you had to do it again - would you apply a top coat?
Thanks for watching. Not sure yet We have a long term tenant there I went in after 6 months and they looked good . I will have to wait until we have a call or they move out. Im not sure about a topcoat I tried a topcoat on another video and it turned a yellow color
Used this product for kitchen counter in the rosemary color! It really came out nice and changed the whole look of the kitchen! This is a great video!
glad to hear it worked out for you!
Hi, I see you posted this a few months ago. May I ask how it's holding up?
@@solaveritas2 HI! I actually painted the countertop about 3 years ago. It still looks pretty good!
@@liannedoherty4816 Oh wow, that's good to hear. Thank you for sharing. Makes me feel more confident to try.
Loved your video!! Trying the same thing on a property my husband and i are remodeling and your video gave me the confidence to do so. Thank you!!
That is awesome!
It looks good. I painted mine. 2 years ago. It's coming up in places because of cleaning products. Leave touch up paint. Or do marbling later. I miss my 70's orange counter top underneath. If it's starts peeling off I will strip it off and paint the other orange to match😂. OR just keep do touch up.
looks bright and clean - good deal for a small budget. Agree with previous comment - maybe want to clear coat on top for added protection
Yeah thinking of doing that next time we get it back
Do you have suggestion on how to lift a cast iron sink out. Its a Kohler 33" and probably weighs 137+ lbs. I thought of an engine hoist but due to legs can't get close enough to sink. Thanks. Your video is great. I'm going to refinish my formica top this way!
Not that I know of other then getting a few friends to help out . Maybe a jack from underneath?
Good and honest demonstration..Durability will be the true answer. Thank you and I hope you have good results.
Thank you! I actually did some tests on a scrap counter and they werent great th-cam.com/video/UC3EdS_FMLQ/w-d-xo.html
Used this on some of our rentals.
If the tenant uses liquid cleaner not anything abrasive or harsh, this could last. Otherwise it's not as long lasting as new laminate.
Thats good to know!
I think if you had used a foam roller, you would have gotten a smoother finish. Your paint brush had a lot of texture, which is good for walls, but not so good for smooth surfaces.
Yeah i think your right . Thanks for watching!
Yeah always use a foam roller for super smooth surfaces like countertops or cabinets
Or you could have use floetrol in the paint and it self levels…I use it for my pour paintings arts.
Hi, it's a year ago, so how has it held up ❓ Looks ok, and I like the colour of the lower cabinets, what colour and make is that ❓
Havent had a chance to follow up but i will here pretty soon ill try to update . The color is silverado sage by magnolia homes but we mixed it in behr satin
👍Looks good! Not too keen on Soo much white... Certainly bright! Good job!
That kitchen is so nice!
Retro style 😍
Thank you!! 😊
I used 6 rolls of contact paper for my countertops & I have thought of painting. Corners & around the sink are the hardest with contact paper when measuring to cut & place.
how well does the contact paper hold up over time?
Mine held up at least a year
Definitely worth the time what an improvement. A nice clean look overall so much better
Thank you! I think it looked so much better too
It looks amazing. You ARE a counter top guy!! I have awful counters and they are trimmed in tiles, which I equally hate.
I thinknit would do fine as long as its not anything thats submerged like a tub or tile shower. It is an epoxy so i would think it would do fine
Thx!
It's beautiful can't even tell repairs were done
Thank you!
Have you checked back to do follow up? Has it held up pretty good???
Woah did you need more than 3? I have huge countertop space I’m trying to see if 4 gallons of that would be enough
Im at the beginning but I have used this product and you have to seal it or it will peel. I've used it more than once and it lasts about a year without sealer.
Thats good to know ! Thanks for sharing
Did mine and 5 months ìts started chipping I will have to do over and get hard clear coating. I am surprised no one else complained of chipping.
Sheep dog shirt and kiwi guava Celsius. You are my people. Thinking about doing this on my bathroom counter as a budget way to update it.
😎😎 my favorite shirt and drink lol. This one is holding up pretty good we walked our rental a few weeks ago but its only been about 7 months
Liked it. Think you should have gone with another color other than white how had it held up to tenants and use?
I haven't seen it but hopefully well. we have really good tenants
It looks a lot better, and its clean. Good job...
I like the color on the bottom cabinets. Do you know the color? Thanks!
Its called silverado sage by magnolia homes
@BryanBuilt thank you! Lol I want to attempt to paint countertop. Thanks for the videos!
I love that you're totally not anxious about doing this project! I'm in the process of buying an 85 built house and need to do this! I wish you traveled.. I'd pay you to do my kitchen
Thanks my mottos are “we can fix it if we mess it up “ and “ you learn by messing it up” 😂. Sounds exciting are you doing most of the work yourself?
@@BryanBuilt Yes we plan to do the work ourselves. Installing wide plank bleached wood flooring. Sanding off that 80s * sand finished walls*( yuck! And repainting kitchen cabinets. So I hope it goes well( ha)
Thats awesome! Just gotta take it one day at a time and one project at a time and you will be able to get it done.
Looks very nice
Have you thought about trying to epoxy them? It's pretty cheap, seems fairly simple to do, and looks amazing. (At least on video)
Yes i have been wanting to try that as well im looking for an affordable diy kit to make a video on
Thank you for mentioning expoxy resin, especially over old laminate. The process seems about as labor intensive. The finished product is beautifu because the resin levels itself as it hardens. It lasts a long time if done correctly.
@@BryanBuilt stone coat epoxy has some pretty inexpensive kits, I think I priced my kitchen at like $200
Anybody know how to smooth down just the sink of a one piece bathroom countertop? I was considering sanding the areas that are cracking (surface area not deep cosmetic) then using epoxy to seal/finish it? The material is not laminate its a poured solid of some kind. Thanks!
Stone coat is a good company but if you’re doing it for a customer, you’ll have to charge them more bc it’s more expensive than rustolium.
Thank you for posting this helpful video. I was not aware of this product.I have used the Rustoleum cement patch, out on my front walk, and it works fabulous.
Glad it was helpful! I havent tried that product yet
This came out great to me! I have a question since it took you 3 days how much would you charge if you were doing it for a customer? I’m sure it depends on the size of the kitchen and counter tops but a ball park figure for what you just did in this video please and thanks
Man not sure really. Total it was like 8 hours of work. maybe between 350-500 dollars including the paint and the repair
8 hours? Is there any way to make that shorter? And do you have to wait a day in between each coat?
I'm wondering how long the finish will last. Also, that's a big no for me with painting the backsplash. Some tile would be better
I used this in my house. I went with Grey color. I did not seal it and it has lasted 8 years. If anything stain you just scroll a bit and gone. The only word of caution is to open window or have ventilation when applying. Strong smell.
Thats great to hear! and yes it stinks ALOT!
Yeah, that Grey Mist looks good, I'm tempted by the Light Ash too. Hmm
Interesting. Durability is the question but not a bad alternative. Put fan in window to draw fumes out. People say to use poly clear coat, same question about durability but lots of potential I think
I've done bathtubs and tiles in a house that was built in the 60's. They were both bright orange. Wasn't the same brand but they both turned out well.
Yeah i think for the price deinitely better then those old colors
I'm curious, you said you would make a determination after a year of tenant use. Videos says it was posted a year ago. How did it hold up?
I was just wondering about whether it's 'food safe'?... You would assume so, but, not necessarily. Does it say on the can?
Great question! I am not sure but i will try to look into it
Hey, the orange peel texture is because off the roller you used, you better went for the foam roller. For the rest for a rental property it looks nice
Glad I read this, I would prefer a smooth texture. Foam roller and brush for sure
The apartments would have you doing this on bad make-readys; and maybe the tub too if it's bad. too much fumes even with windows open and respirator.
thanks for the tip i will try it! and yeah the fumes are horrible
Can i apply this product to my existing laminate?
Yes its for laminate countertops
Heck of a difference. Great Job!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ever thought about using something like Stone Coat Epoxy? It’s a similar process and you can achieve looks similar to granite, marble and other natural materials.
Yes! Have been wanting to try their products just havent had a chance
Does it have the fumes like the Rustoleum?
@@donnaward6158 - It’s epoxy, so yeah there is some.
Love the color...looks pretty good!
@@BryanBuilt Good to know! Thank you for the kind reply. All the best to you and your family. 😊
Thank you !
Also, I suggest a darker color for kitchen counters, especially for rentals. The lighter colors show stains.
I agree!
Love the bottom cabinet color. What is it. Ty
I believe its called silverado sage by magnolia homes
I thought about putting new countertops in a short term rental, but I think I’m going to do this. I would be mad if a guest messed up a new countertop, but with this, I can just paint the messed up section.
thats why i used it. worst that could happen is i need to repaint when the house is empty again
looks nice bro you cant beat rust olem
Great how to video. Good job. Learned a lot.
Hey how did they hold up after a while? Looking to do this myself. Thx for the video
I havent had any complaints from tenants yet so i would say pretty good but i also havent seen them since we painted them but i will update as soon as i get a chance
This is great. Good job. 👍 👏 👏 👏 I immediately subscribed. Bravo. Edit: you didn't even have to seal it??? Makes the kitchen look so much brighter.
thanks for watching and the sub! no, I didn't seal from the instructions it was just a one-part system.
Great video, one question, can I use it on the cabinets, as well as the countertop?
Thank you! I dnt think its recommended for cabinets
@@BryanBuilt Thank you!
No not sure how long they say it should last but to me its probably 2-3 year fix until we update the countertops.
I painted my vanity and didn't like the color so I scraped it off with a putty knife. It was a small area and took a hour.
Please let me know, you did not need a clear coating after applying the 3 coats? thanks
Every handyman that I run into advises me not to do this .instead suggested I change the countertops out. I’m not doing that in a rental . But from what I can see this looks great. I might have to just do it myself..
That looks pretty good for a quick fix.
Thanks!
We have laminate countertops in the mother-in-law mansion that is coming off. If I remove the laminate, can I do this on the wood underneath or does this need to be done on top of laminated surfaces?
I believe it would work on the wood but I would verify with the product
Looks pretty good, cleaner looking
better then the almond color i think
Wow, this comment is making me reconsider whether I want to do this. I make tea 2-3 times a day, and always leave the mug on the counter. Hmm
any ideas on how to paint tile or coat it in some way to hide that it's tile and create a faux granite or marble over it?
best bet is probably epoxy coating. I have painted my tile before with rustoluem tile paint but did not try to do a texture or marble effect. th-cam.com/video/9fmuCY7VG4Y/w-d-xo.html
@@BryanBuilt thanks
It looks good. The white cabinet and white countertop seem to match.
yes it matched pretty well
