@digitaldjtips Good choice of tripod. I have been waiting for this controller to be released in Australia. It's exactly what I need to carry on my Cargo Bike
The "Laidback Luke button" for controlling loops is still a backwards solution compared to the superior push encoder knob that has been on Traktor controllers for ages. Not only does the encoder only need a single push to activate or deactivate a loop, you can double or halve loops with this single knob as well without having to fiddle with tiny secondary buttons that you have to muscle memorize.
I'm not sure "backwards" is a fair description. It's quite an elegant solution, albeit not quite as simple as an extra knob. I guess they decided that an extra knob on such a small controller would make it more complicated for the benefits it brings.
@@digitaldjtips Hardware considerations would be my guess as well + DJs being used to the CDJ way of controlling loops. Which is still inferior to the single push knob way though, there are no two ways around it. And from a hardware perspective a push encoder actually allows for more functionality within the same space compared to a "Laidback Luke button".
@Drrolfski mine has preset loop parameters so I can't set a 3/4 loop as you would on a pioneer and go from house to dnb reloop mixers (big ones) have those. it's easy to see why a mixer this size does not.
A lot of people have given Luke stick for this, but last year he did 6 hours of sets at Tomorrowland across all the weekends, and this year he did 6hrs of Tomorrowland sets again on this unit. More main stage hours than any other DJ for the yearly event, and all done on his phone. Fair play to him, its not for me personally. My vision is rubbish so i wouldn't be able to see what im doing on such a small screen, and my hands are just too big for the MT2 mixer.
Mate, why don't you jog on? This is a DJ school site, not an elitist music fanzine. If you don't like it, frankly it's all the same to us, 'cos this ain''t about you.
The best thing about this is you can just pull it out of your backpack and start DJing off your phone. It has enough tricks that you can use to actually put a cool little set together. The fader effects were particularly useful. The two issues were: it's tiny and tight and you loose a lot of the fun tricks (like scratching) because there are no jogs....Outside if its portability, not sure this 100% necessary. If you have a standard mixer or controller, DJay pro now has a ton of mappings. You can even use DJay Pro with the Pioneer club set up if you want.
All good points, and it's only for some people who find it intriguing, interesting, or useful for their circumstances. We agree with you - it's not for everyone.
Interesting! Could you share more detail on how Pioneer club hardware works with Djay pro? What software is DJ Pro controlling with pioneer hardware does the Mixtour hardware require DJ pro software to play nice with Pioneer Hardware?
@@johnwasilenko170 You could use HUD mode on the pioneer players and mixer via a computer (which is running djay pro). The waveforms appear on the cdjays and the mixer has midi mappings to DJay pro (Think the S11, V10 and A9 all have mappings). You would still have to use the computer a little but the mappings will give you most of the functionality of the mixer and the CDJs. DJAY Pro has directions on their website to check as well if you need more specifics. You also have DJ Pro on an Ipad, hook it into the mixer and players and it would work just like the mixer (or players) had a giant touch screen (the Ipad).

I have one of these, and love it, though I primarily use it a bit differently than described. For me specifically, it was the answer to having a very small and portable hardware interface that I could use with Phase and DVS - sort of like bringing a DVS-enabled mixer, except that all of those are huge and hard to transport or set up in a booth. It doesn't work with Serato DVS, sadly, but DJay is quite good these days, so switching to this + DJay on a laptop + Phase + the turntables that are already in the venue (or my own tables at home) means I can have a comfortable, portable, and reliable DVS setup wherever I go. If the venue doesn't have tables, I can also use it as a full controller, as you're showing here, but that's not my main use case. My only criticisms are that I wish the loop controls were a knob instead of a button, and I wish you could use DVS with an iPad instead of needing a laptop (though I hear they're working on that). I also kind of wish there were a stand available to put it at a 30 degree angle instead of flat, but I guess I could try to get something like that 3d printed somewhere. All in all, though, it's a great little unit!
I have one of these along with a full Pioneer CDJ setup. In my opinion it's not a replacement for my main 4 channel setup, but wow - this is seriously fun, well built, sounds good and so portable! I enjoy being able to DJ anywhere and that's what this unit enables with great sound quality from RCAs that allow it to be connected to all systems types - I've even had mine connected to a W-King D10 in the middle of nowhere with everything running off battery power alone - so use cases are pretty much endless. I would highly recommend anyone to try one of these (with an open mind) - like me, you might unexpectedly really quite like it and appreciate the creativity, quality and portability it offers. Enjoy!

You need to fade out the sax so you switch to channel 3, you put down the fader, then you switch back to channel 1.... Oopsy... no more beat...

Look at it this way, CDJ-3000s cost, well, 3000, and they don't have balanced outputs. I'm being facetious, but the point is that you plug this with a short cable into a mixer in a DJ booth, and there's absolutely no need for balanced outputs to do that.
Come on! The only reason a professional dj would use this gadget in clubs is because he’s being sponsored... Every major club has at least 4 x CDJ3000s ready to go.
Anyone who uses this is either lazy or not really in it to work at the craft. Why are so many people pushing for sync to be a crutch? It's just playing into all style no substance. I went back to vinyl because I got so sick of software, plus, it has made me a better DJ.
Real DJs call it records by the way hahaha records can be vinyl, but there are also shellac records. I'm not an expert at mixing records, but I care about sound quality and records are not lossless. Records have limited fidelity regarding stereo separation and sub bass as well. I get the feeling most DJs who use records like to portray a certain image and the crowd usually cares more about appearance and charisma than sound quality. Records look cool on Instagram hahaha 🌈
Can you please stop bringing your obsession to the table every time someone talks about djing. The tool is all about mobility and all you can say is "real dj use vinyls", you need a cure, I'm not joking!
ANDROID USERS - Just to let you know. You can DJ from your phone but sound quality is horrible. No idea why but it is significantly degraded. Not suitable for live use.
The problem with Android is it depends on all kinds of things. While some people may get great results, others may get results that are impossible to use, as has been your case.
Stems are the worst thing to happen to DJaying. You used to really have to dig and search for accapellas and instrumentals to come up with a remix. Now you remix anything. Good bye to creativity. Remixes are not special anymore
As ever, the top 1% of DJs will do amazing stuff with these tools, and everyone else will just do normal stuff. It's not the tools that are the problem - it's what people do with them, and the very best will figure out great ways of using them. So, we disagree with you.

@@digitaldjtips thanks for the response!Well I start djing with cds especially the pioneer 100 now I own 5 controllers and 4 softwares for play my music.Well I play with the original mixtour(I have order the pro also) with Djay software. With the fluid beatgrids you can play any genre you want and your mixes sound perfect!Of course I know how to beat match but the software is so good at that and gives me the time to look at my audience and think the next song that will blow their minds!Believe me if you try this combination(Mixtour + Djay pro) you are not going to change setup never again!
Where is the pitch control?
On a modifier key.
I heard the exact same argument when people first started djing with cds. Then again with computers.
Some people just hate change.
will it help him play proper music?
Apparently so, Tomorrowland had him do 6 hours of sets this year. More than any other DJ.
@@TheSaabClinicUK do they play proper music there now? When did that happen?
@@VictorKibalchich Well its the biggest music festival in the world, so they must be doing something right.
@@TheSaabClinicUK yes, appealing to the lowest common denominator. I always ask myself what would Weatherall say? I can only imagine, but it wouldn't be complimentary!
Let's here your amazing music, Victor.
It's quite impressive for a smal devices like this. But I'm curious who equality is going to bring this to clubs / festivals.
Luke did for the last 2 years on the Tomorrowland Main Stage. He did 6 hrs of sets there this year, all on this unit.
The controller looks great, but that 4 channel is a just a joke without a fader per channel. Just imagine: you have a beat on channel 1, an acapella on channel 2 and a solo saxo on channel 3. You need to fade out the sax so you switch to channel 3, you put down the fader, then you switch back to channel 1.... Oopsy... no more beat...
It's the same on much bigger controllers, It's called layers, and something called "soft takeover" stops that happening.
@digitaldjtips if you are referring to this th-cam.com/video/rQAylr7_IhU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NzmK5KfB1EryxYAi , they are talking about pitch control not faders, but maybe faders are just not covered in the video. I would love to see you demonstrate the use of 4 channels in your next Q n A video.
@@digitaldjtipsI don’t understand -do two channels become four channels by software emulation alone? Are key main output functions of a true four channel mixer typically well emulated with only two physical channels?
Why does it cost so much?
Smaller manufacturers tend to be a bit more expensive
“Layed back loop” button 😅 what a missed opportunity 🤦🏾♂️
It is actually called that in Reloop's literature, just not on the unit.
@@digitaldjtips so it’s actually called layed back loop then?
@@bboymac84laid back loop button indeed. Yes.
@@vegandadbod7157 makes more sense right?
Kinda cool - waiting 6+ months so far though
What, to get one? They've been out for ages.
@@digitaldjtips Yeh to get one. We've had on order for 7 months. Maybe we need to cancel and find a new supplier :)
Ah.. here we go…. IT’S NOT FOR ME THEREFORE IT SHOULDN’T EXIST!!!! 😂
Yeah, you’ve got a point there.
Yet another review of this unit, but there are only like two videos of someone doing a mix on it, one is from Luke.
DJs here's your time to stand out
btw, this is not a critique of your review, that is excellent 😊
Indeed, love as we would to do mixes on all this equipment. It's basically something that, as you say, the community can step in with.
Sun is shinning....
I'm having issues with the performance pads being unresponsive sometimes. Wondering if I have a defective product or if this is normal for this product. Do you have the same issue?

This hasn't happened to us, but hopefully, if you ask their support, they'll be able to give you some help.
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🎶🎶🎶🎶❤️
Yes, it's a great little controller!
I mean it works for him and maybe others. This is definitely not for me
Yeah won't be for everyone.
TRS outputs for the love of god...pro ???
You put it in the mixer of the club or festival you’re playing. Like a CDJ or turntable. Nothing wrong with that.
Not spending $600 and still getting unbalanced outputs.
Look at it this way, CDJ-3000s cost, well, 3000, and they don't have balanced outputs. I'm being facetious, but the point is that you plug this with a short cable into a mixer in a DJ booth, and there's absolutely no need for balanced outputs to do that.
Not MIDI i guess? I will stay with my Xone K2, thank you
Yes, this can be MIDI-mapped.
@@digitaldjtips thanks for the reply, then this makes this piece of kit much more interesting. Worth checking it out.
Just sync and go🤷🏾♂️
indeed
Come on! The only reason a professional dj would use this gadget in clubs is because he’s being sponsored...
Every major club has at least 4 x CDJ3000s ready to go.
Nope. I know Luke and he was doing this for fun before he'd even spoken to either company.
Are you kidding me? 500 USD!?!?! This makes it an absolute "Hell NO!" product...
We're not kidding - we're just telling you what the price is.
@@robertschnobert9090 I know. Remember, I'm a DJ 😂. TBF I started out on controllers, then Standalone units, then CDJs, and now vinyl hahaha
Can you please stop bringing your obsession to the table every time someone talks about djing. The tool is all about mobility and all you can say is "real dj use vinyls", you need a cure, I'm not joking!
Good for you, but being open-minded is far more important than what you actually use, in our view. You're too judgmental for this community.
@@digitaldjtips I doubt that. Spoke with software support. They told me , it works with android, but it is not designed for Android, so... yeah...
Nice unit but not for me.
No, it definitely won't be for everyone.
Laid back loop you say😂
Laidback Luke/Laidback Loop, who's countin'? 🤣
$500. Too cluttered.
Got it and returned it. Feels so cheap. Junk.
Fair enough, most don't agree with you
Am I the only one who doesn’t like this design? It looks very cheap 😢
some find the chrome knobs a bit tacky but overall it's pretty well made
too small, too gimmicky, too complicated, too expensive
...for you, right?
@@digitaldjtips for most, right?
Stems are the worst thing to happen to DJaying. You used to really have to dig and search for accapellas and instrumentals to come up with a remix. Now you remix anything. Good bye to creativity. Remixes are not special anymore
As ever, the top 1% of DJs will do amazing stuff with these tools, and everyone else will just do normal stuff. It's not the tools that are the problem - it's what people do with them, and the very best will figure out great ways of using them. So, we disagree with you.
