How to look well dressed is fairly simple, be clean (body, hair and clothes), repair all 'damage' (like missing buttons) and have clean short nails and polished shoes.

Steaming works too: freshens and spruces things up, especially if you take something out of the closet and it’s a bit wrinkly and you’re in a rush to go out. Perfect! A have an easy handheld.

I have heard a tip if you want to go barefoot in tennis shoes but your feet sweat, take a no show sock and put it around the shoe insole so your foot will set on sock not the insole.

Changing the buttons is a simple way to give your clothing an individual touch.
Be creative! I made myself a rule to not wear jeans in public for a while. I have so many cute dresses, most of which are thrifted. An extra 5 minutes to dress creatively and it's hugely mood lifting, and people treat me so much better, it's really worth it :)
I was given a couple tips which I will share and hopefully will be of some help.
Hydrogen peroxide helps remove blood from materials. A doctor told me this when I was in the ER.
I tailor told me that when wearing leather shoes you should only wear the same pair two days and then let them rest a couple days by wearing a different pair. This helps them retain their shape and breathe.
I always put my good shoes that I wear maybe just on weekends or special occasions in their shoeboxes. I do not let them sit in the open. Every season I put the shoes that I usually wear on a shoe rack and the ones that are out of season I put away in shoe boxes. There’s a small shoe soil clean/shine sponge in a container that can be purchased. It can fit in a handbag that I have taken with me when I know that my shoes will become wet and soiled before I go inside to work or a luncheon or dinner. It’s easy to use and wipes off any soil and leaves a nice shine but not oily or rubs off. I have also used a black magic marker on parts of my favorite black shoes that are not worn out but polish won’t won’t stay on.
I have shirts, skirts, blouses, and dresses that never seem to wear out but I do take very good care of them. I don’t buy expensive clothes even though I do like them. I judge the cloth and the way any garment is made before I buy it. Some expensive pieces are not put together well or their seams are not sewn together properly or matched with each other. Since I used to sew my own clothes I do notice these things.
When it comes to jewelry I do take care of the pieces I purchase. My favorites are put in a soft cloth or padded box so they don’t become tarnished. I try not to get perfume or hairspray on them because it can cause trouble.
I just take care of what I have because I buy what I like and have little money to do so.
I do my own pedicure because it’s really not that difficult. It takes time but not anymore time than going out, getting it done, driving back home and it costs less. Fingernails are a little different especially if your hands are constantly in the public. We need to choose our battles or priorities. Maybe cook more homemade meals if that helps to get your nails done.
Those are just some thoughts. I’m 72 now and I try to take care of my things the way my mother did. She always looked elegant but we lived on a small family farm in the Iowa in the states and we certainly didn’t have a lot of money. She wore just enough to look elegant but too much to look gaudy. Every string was cut off, every button was sewed on, every lose hem was sewed up, and the shoes were clean and polished. She wore makeup but not too much that you couldn’t see what she looked like and she was beautiful. She’s gone now but I have tried to follow in her footsteps and created some of my own. I hope she approves. And the best part is her grandchildren are following in our footsteps too.

My husband was a police officer here in UK, every time he bought shoes he immediately had rubber soles put on them, work shoes and dress shoes. He was known for always having very good, very cared for shoes, always polished to a high shine and never worn down.

I have followed influencers since the 1960s. One tip I would hear over and over again is to wear perfume on your skin. So many influencers nowadays spray the perfume all over themselves just before they walk out the door. This is such a faux pas. The perfume lingers forever on the clothes and especially our outerwear such as coats and jackets and scarves which don't get washed frequently are saturated with perfume. When we want to wear the jacket or blouse again, a different perfume will clash. I also want to add that as we are more eco conscious today, we wash our outer garments less, so it's even more important to wear our perfume on our skin!

I used to put dryer sheets in my work shoes at night. Always smell fresh in the morning.
That’s a great tip! I don’t use dryer sheets for drying clothes anymore but I do stuff them in my shoes to remove odors.

My Mexican mom was like you. Same tips. We were born and raised in Texas. So I'm more laid back, I wear jeans. But you are right people always judge. I like to get my hands and feet done. Something my mom taught me and I still do. Also she'd say to look at a man's shoes. 😄

I like to wear scarves, the occasional hat and jewellery, but not too much jewellery!

A thrifty tip for Smelly shoes....I had 2 teenage boys and this worked....for the first time put baking soda in and stuff them with news paper. I got in the habit of almost nightly stuffing their shoes with newspaper. It worked well. Believe me they use to be stinky.

I wore black leather ballet flats, which were a light blue colour originally, but when they got scuffed I had them died black by the shoe cobbler. They are Country Road shoes and very comfy and good quality, so I am glad that I could keep wearing them 😊

Thank you for the common sense advice! I remember I used to polish my shoes all the time but I don't know what happened to me, lol. I need to get back in the habit. Anyhow, back in my younger years I had a pair of taupe colored leather pumps I wore to death. They developed that funky smell. I happen to get caught in a Florida downpour one day and ran through water up to my ankles. I thought my shoes were ruined. Since they were on their last bit of life anyhow I decided to experiment. I left them out in the sun a few days, which did help with the funk, and found shoe paint at the craft store. I had a teal skirt I loved and found the perfect matching shoe paint. My shoes turned out great. I didn't wear the teal skirt all the time but when I did everyone would ask how I found matching shoes. Those shoes lasted about another year before they just couldn't be saved any more.
I dress simply and for my body type. I dont have many items. Shop mainly consignment/thrift. Iron clothing and polish shoes. Recently added elbow pads to a well loved cardigan. Short, floral stud earrings I added to a hat. I also take a broach and put on a hat. Same studs I often use on shirt cuffs. Buttons I change often or add for decoration.

Saving "even" 100 a week is 400 a month. That would be like 20- 30 per cent of many peoples earnings in the west these days. If your paycheck only covers the necessities, it's impossible to save 🤷♀
I use purxhased insoles with arch support for my ankle boots ( from Wal-Mart). I just reace them when they get smelly. This way, my boot insoles are protected. It may work for sneakers if the original insoles are removed.

Hydrogen peroxide will bubble off any fresh blood from a cut etc, and often after it has dried also. Just pour it on generously, rub in with a cloth, let it sit and rinse. Love your place and how more relaxed you are.
You can prolong the life of shoes by taking a dancers tip & very carefully, adding a very thin layer of shellac inside the shoe which will dry hard but strengthen the structure of the shoe.❤
Hint: Putting your shoes in a cloth bag (pillow case) in the freezer eliminates odors.

I always give a "cut" to my clothes, dresses that are too short, become tops, and because im tall, i always get perfect length 😊summer pants become shorts...cotton always shrinks after so many washes anyway...and if you stay in your colour palette, you just get additional wardrobe pieces

Lume unscented works great and it creates no build up. It takes the size of pea to cover both feet.
For smelly shoes, I buy a thin insole from the dollar store and problem solved! Just need to replace it every few months😊

Big buttons are expensive so you can try finding something at the thrift store just for the buttons. Also, why so many petite professionals do not fix the long hems of their trousers and are dragging the hems on the ground!😠. It's an eye sore.
