The best way to Look chic in cheap clothes is: be slim 👍👍👍 i have noticed in my live when I lost weight, I Looked gorgeous in all clothes I tried. And when my belly was growing I Lookd terrible in all. So I try every Day to Stay slim - it safes money in 2 directions: food and clothes 🤣🤣🤣 and i See it every Day on a lot of woman: slim women can try so much different ideas and layerings and Look well. Women with more Kilos often Look cheap and unforeable

My biggest go to source is thrift stores. I found a gorgeous black blouse with white polka dots, it is silk. I paid $3 US. I sew, so if I find a good quality item, I restyle it into what I want. I refuse to shop fast fashion. I prefer recycling vintage pieces. My grandmother was my role model. She was a young adult during the Great Depression. I learned everything at her hip. She had a really nice wool coat from the 1950's. It was navy. When I was a child, she made me a coat out of it. She reused the lining as well. We designed it together. I got to choose the buttons for it. I chose some red, white, and navy buttons. I was a huge "That Girl" fan. I was 3 1/2. My coat looked just like one Anne Marie arlo Thomas) wore on the show. My grandmother surprised me with a hat very similar to the one she wore with it on the show. Needless to say, my Barbies had amazing coture clothing! 😁 I miss my grandmother so much. I am so thankful for her lessons on style, and on being presentable. In High School, I always raided her vintage clothes. One of my favorites was a blue patterned silk Grace Kelly collared dress. I have all of her dresses, purses, gloves, and hats. 💜💜💜

I love this, especially that your grandmother made you a coat from hers but like Marlo Thomas wore! What an act of love! My mother would let me design clothes and then we would go fabric shopping together and she’d make the clothes. She also made my Barbie doll clothes that I would design.
How fortunate we were both to have them as re models but also to have worn the results of their labors of love for us. As a result of that experience, I do love couture clothing. It’s rarely in my price range, unless I see it at a consignment or thrift shop (yes, I have seen Chanel and Armani at the Comm. Ave, Boston, MA Goodwill!
May your memories of your grandmother live on!

I love thrift stores too and have saved a fortune there over the years. I can do basic hand sewing but I wish I could use a sewing machine. Can anyone recommend good sewing tutorials on TH-cam please?

I agree with your feeling about the different leopard print clothing. I feel like one of the updated themes of animal prints for this season is that it is slightly more abstracted (more simple) in pattern and not exactly like the animal print looks from the 80s.

Ms. Frederique, thank you so much for all your advice. I am in my late 50's and finally ditched my capri pants. I have been embracing neutrals and wearing more solids and classic cuts. I live in a very casual community in hot and humid Florida. I got complimented twice today on my outfit and I was just wearing simple ivory pants, a black t-shirt, and leather sandals. I don't even wear make-up foundation anymore. It's so great to have the tools to embrace my "wiser woman-ness" with style and chic-ness. Many thanks! You are so entertaining and engaging to watch. Keep up your amazing work. You are transforming many people out here in the world, for the better, with a smile.

Hello my Florida neighbor! 🌴 I'm 51, I'm just about to do the same. I have no clue why I bought All these prints!😆 My go to look is long, super thin sweaters over a smooth cami or tank, with cut off denim shorts in heat, or leggings in cooler weather. 🤗

Post menopausal resident of hideously humid Florida here! It's so nice to see fashion advice that doesn't rely on light weight blazers, jean jackets or light sweaters to dress up SUMMER clothing! No air conditioned restaurant, movie theater or doctor's office is going to be chilly enough to need any of those. I would end up ripping said garment off with my teeth just to get it off my body and away from my skin! Thank you Frederique!

I have tried to wear leopard (I’m 58) and I just feel like I am looking like my Mom. I have one scarf that is leopard print and that is about all I am comfortable wearing. But I would totally rock that skirt. It is funny how just updating the print changes the vibe. Well done.

Darling Frédérique, the way clothing is cleaned can prolong its life. I wash everything on a delicate setting, cold or cool water, in the washing machine, then either hang on good hangers or dry on a rack. If I put clothing in the dryer I use a low heat setting/delicate setting. I have tops I have bought at Walmart! years ago that still look great. I also keep the fabric “pills” shaved off on inexpensive sweaters and knit tops. Proper care will definitely make a difference if your clothing budget is small and expensive clothes are not possible for you. Much love to you, sweet woman….from Alabama, USA. 😊🇺🇸❤

I was revisiting this video - I actually purchased the same sweater from Amazon after watching this the first time. It was so cute, but - the one I received was flawed in the dye, the black area had a large faded splotch right in the front, it almost looked like a shadow or reflection initially, then I realized it was defective and back it went. I didn't take a chance on reordering. It's too bad it didn't work out, it probably would have been a winter favorite!

I think the reason the Zara leopard and white shirts look not quite right is that they have a boxy cut. They're not as fitted in the torso. It is nearly even a batwing look. Compare that to the black Zara one which looks more fitted in the torso.

I have bought my clothes second had for years now, but from videos like this one I learn how to pick the right clothes, especially by looking at the fabric, the details, buttons, cuts and so on. I agree that linen shirts from H&M are terrific value. I bought a $40 one last month and I love it. I've seen similar at Witchery here in Australia for $100+. And while the quality mightn't be quite as good as the Witchery ones, it's all how you style the shirt. And $40 suits my budget 😀. I love videos like this one where you show us some hidden gems and ideas for not spending much but looking great. xx

Another tip: ensuring the fit is appropriate for your body type. Sometimes sizing up or down makes the difference. Also, if the shoulder seam or hem is not quite right, you can take the item to a good local seamstress. I had a pair of pants hemmed and it made all the difference and the price was very reasonable. 💫

    Oh no, Frederique...
This morning I was driving to work nice Niepodleglosci Avenue, nicely dressed in my animal print Zara shirt. And guess what, I thought why not to listen to my favourite Chanel on YT. And few minutes later I felt cheap and lost all confidence.
    You are too cruel 😉
Fortunately I'm wearing the shirt under black cashmere sweater (Warsaw it's not Australia in October).
Besides I watched Marie-Anne Lecoeur (also my YT style consultant, although completely different type then You, but I like both of You) and she gives many ideas how to style the leopard print shirt. Maybe she will inspire you ;P

Related to a much older video of yours (I have binge-watched) - your coconut oil recommendation and also addition of raw sugar for a scrub are amazingly effective (and beyond economical). My parched cuticles, feet and skin overall are gone - now soft and luxurious. Have been telling all my friends to watch you as your authenticity as well as the quality of your advice are exceptional. Thank you! P.S. A friend said that in Caribbean cultures that coconut oil is used on the gums - leave on for 20-ish minutes then brush your teeth. Apparently amazing benefits to prevent plaque. (My friends dentist asked what he was doing b/c he had zero plaque).

I bought the animal print skirt from Amazon after watching your Bad Ass video. It is awesome! The leopard print is modern; it looks great on. And, while I am attracted to leopard (often), I will not wear it a lot and do not want a lot of pieces. This skirt was so perfect to meet my occasional itch to wear leopard. Thank you so very much for this budget friendly option!! (I’m sure the Naomi Wild Things skirt I found from Realisation Par is lovely, but it is $190!!). You rock!!

You are sooo right on the "cheap" looking items - the videos of you wearing them is exactly as you said - ageing, cheap - the opposite of chic. I'm now motivated to go through my hanging clothes this week to rid myself of past mistakes. I appreciate your mentioning fabric weight, textures, and the style of buttons to help judge quality appearance. I also agree with your recommendations for climate over 'fashion' because I'm in Florida US where it's hot, hot, hot, all year long. I have a half-dozen pieces I would enjoy quite a bit if I were traveling North in winter months, but I'm not! So it's money wasted and I'll look into online sale maybe. Wonderful video!

Great statement pieces. You can't go wrong with white linen shirts and black faux leather jackets. I also loved the satin skirt print. You can actually get some really good stuff from supermarkets clothes brands in uk that are very environmentally friendly...I have just bought a black satin shirt from George at Asda for £16 which is about $19..can't go wrong with that! It's very chic and good quality. Wish I could upload a picture for all to see. George do sustainable cheap and good quality clothing and on trend with the current fashion on catwalks. More of the same type of videos please 🙏❤

Hi Frederique, thanks for the video. I agree that Zara clothing quality is not as good as it used to be. If you are looking for affordable good quality pieces try Uniqlo (I haven’t seen in your channel yet) x

I only "buy new" if Iʻve searched all over the online thrift stores and the thrift stores in my area and still canʻt find what I want. Better for the environment. While I was listening to your video -- excellent, by the way -- I scored an amazing menswear all-wool pair of Nordstrom trousers in olive, a shade that matches my eyes. I make mistakes doing it this way too -- the fabric itches and I have to re-donate it, or the shoes are a bit too tight and I have to re-donate them -- stuff like that. I feel way less guilty this way than when I spend a lot of money for something that doesnʻt fit or look right.
Also, I know that one of my "three words" (from Alyssa Beltempo) is "natural" and another one is "textured." I go for natural fibers: merino, silk, cashmere, wool, linen, leather, cotton, and over time I know that if I get something in a man-made fiber Iʻm going to eventually hate it, so I just donʻt even bother. To me, "cheap" clothing is anything in a man-made fiber, and I know I will end up ignoring it in my closet. I can find low-priced natural-fiber clothing at the thrift stores for the most part, and if I just give up and order something new, itʻs lately been coming from Quince.

How about taking us on a shopping trip to a thrift store?

Love the Shein polka dot pink blouse and the amazon stripes Brighton sweater. The truth is most of these clothes come form similar factories and the only thing you're paying for is advertisement and company branding. So I agree sometimes cheaper can be better if you know how to analyze the garments in the stores when you're shopping. Online its always hit or miss. Zara's clothes keep getting cheaper in quality the only thing I always find consistent are there coats.

I loved the video. !! I too love blazer but it’s very difficult to wear them in hot Florida. Maybe you could find some (summer) blazers or perhaps show us how to look stylish in a steaming weather. Thank you again. 🤗.
