I just wanted to add my own comment here. I am disabled, and so not able to walk around without a walker. This limits me to playing games that are chair-friendly. I also use my Quest 2 for virtual travel, visiting places I can not go to physically and what I find best of all.... Watching movies on a giant screen. Especially 3-D movies... They are awesome. Even if it means playing or watching movies that I can enjoy while I sit in a swivel chair... so sweet! Mixed Reality... Since I can't walk around with the headset on, I could not care less about this feature. My only interest is the ability to escape into a virtual space, whether that be an island, an airplane ride, game environment or sitting in a virtual theater watching movies on a (virtual) big screen.... That's what is important to me.
with Mixed reality, you see your house then suddenly aliens crash thrpugh your ceiling and walls.. Is mind blowing no matter where you are.. walking and kixed reality do not seem related to me..,
Yeah man i think quest 3 is just unnecesary by the moment. I think mixed reality is just pointless for everyone, i mean, we all want vr for extraordinary experiences, not for watching our room which we see every day 😂 i would upgrade in 1 or 2 years when games are developed for quest 3 from the begining, which will take a long time. Quest 2 is best value-cost btm by far
@agussanz5227 pass through is pretty sweet, I use it all the time, when watching videos in the headset I like to keep it one so I'm still present in reality, also helpful for doing quick little things without removing the headset. There aren't a ton of games that take advantage of it tbh, the coolest one imo is demeo, cubism is cool too. Overall MR is cool and nice to have, but it isn't the most important thing
Coming from the Rift S, the Index, the Quest 2 and now the Quest 3, I can agree with much of what you posted, although I hate going back to my Quest 2. I am keeping the Quest 2 around just in case of an accident or for friends and family to play or join in on MP games, otherwise, the Quest 3 will be my daily driver. Now we just need to new amazing games
Apple vr then playstation vr then magic leap then microsoft hololense after that comes quest 3 as worth your money if you ask anyone with a actual computer science degree and common sense to what vr is and which device do you get more bang for your buck with and after that its pc vr so master race comes dead last and they dont even realize it
@@matKilla9801 vive user here, owned it since 2016 without upgrading, finally decided to purchase a quest 2 online today since i can't afford the 3, can't wait to see the difference once it arrives
I bought the Quest 2 a few weeks ago. If you just starting with VR like me. For the price right now it is the best value hands down. Except the ISS game, I only play Sidequest games. Like Jedi Outcast, DOOM3 BFG VR Fully possessed, which are great. Jedi Outcast you can play on the headset, and DOOM 3, but the PCVR version is far superior. Bought the KIWI Elite headstrap and a 10Ah power bank. Great bang for the buck.
You get yourself RazeXR on the sidequest and play Duke nukem 3d, blood and shadow warrior... And then get quake and return to castle Wolfenstein. Those games were amazing on the quest 2, I can't believe they got ported to VR
I have never tried vr before and am debating between the 2 and 3. I wish the storage was upgradable but I am confused about how the games are stored, if I can store them on my pc then I can get the 128g.
@user-tl2vy7ly7v yeah that's kinda what I was thinking. I've never tried vr and I don't buy new consoles, before I got the switch a few months ago the last one I had was the ps3, so I just don't want to buy the quest 2 and then not be able to play games coming out next year. Like if I'm spending a couple hundred on something I'll probably hope to get a couple years of use. I'm pretty excited but I might wait a bit to save up for the 500gb. Also, I have glasses, and I have heard the 3 is best for nerds.
between the quest 3 and the quest 2, yeah. If you compare it to other headsets and what it COULD be if Meta wasn't so lazy and greedy, there's a much longer list. Comfort is a big one that comes to mind.
I agree that the biggest complaint about the Quest 3 is battery life. The default strap is also awful. Upgraded to BOBOVR strap with battery which really helps. Still very heavy headset that shifts around with quick turns. I really wish it had OLED display to get better blacks. It is still worthy of the upgrade.
@@ScizorCrafti wouldn't say lazy, but they're focusing on things people don't really want. Which makes it appear lazy, for example pass through isn't completely useless but it took a lot to make and is boring at least right now. Nearly full body tracking (except for legs and thats it) takes awhile but isn't used much at all. Meta isn't lazy but their not focusing on what people want.
I just got my quest three today. It’s so much clearer than a quest two. I could never get my quest too to be completely perfectly non-blurry. The question three I put them on. I didn’t even have to adjust them. They are crystal clear.
Quest 3 is a fantastic headset. Blows away Quest 2 by miles, mostly due to the new lenses as you mentioned. Comfort is not great out of the box though. Can't wait to see what the next generations of headsets will be like.
I'm gonna wait for the Quest 4 (or whatever the next version is called) for three reasons: 1. The Quest 3's black levels still suck. They are a washed-out grey which totally ruins the immersion in dark scenes in games. 2. The processing power is still bad. I'm not expecting a stand-alone headset to run Unreal Engine 5.1 in 4k at 90Hz but come on, it still looks like 1990's graphics. 3. The FOV is still bad. Feels like wearing blinders.
I recently did the same thing, went back to the quest 2 as the 3 was being used by another family member. I only really play beat saber, so this is a comparison for that game only. Things I noticed right away: 1.) refresh rate of the quest 3 is noticeable. 2.) lens PPI didn't really matter to me. Neither one of them look great to me. color reproduction is close enough. Wish quest 3 would have done OLED. 3.) tracking seems to be better on quest 3. 4.) game totally playable, once you get into the game you don't notice much of a difference. 5.) quest 3 is noticeably snappier outside of game. If you have a quest 2, and you just play games like beat saber casually, I really don't think the upgrade is worth $500. It's also worth noting that my glasses scratched the quest 3 lenses. I wouldn't wear glasses on that headset without spacers or something to protect them.
I would say that while lenses are responsible for peripherial sharpness to a point it's also that a lot of games have dynamic FFR and resolution and on quest 3 it actually renders at higher res due to better GPU.
@@hk-sp9rw Dunno if you use sidequest to bump up the resolution, but if you have. The bump in the Quest 3 is not worth it bro. I've been seriously disappointed by the visuals. The issue is listening to VR content creators really hyping it up, and believing it, lol.
@@shotbyfabioh the VR TH-camrs are all SUPER EXCITED and AMAZED by every single game, app, and piece of news. It's like they're on cocaine 24/7 from all that undisclosed sponsor money and living in news desert of the VR world.
I have the Q2 and I do not experience music cutting out or choppy in the home. I have a few glitches in games when it’s loading as you are moving sometimes.
I have scored Two Quest 2’s at half or less than retail. The price I paid (with the extra accessories) is still only the price of a new Quest 3. More than happy with the quest 2. But my son, daughter and I do use PC’s to game with link/air link. Able to tweak and tinker to get the best results. If you don’t want to, or care to tinker… go for the quest 3. Otherwise, you can get the 2 looking amazing with a good setup!
what setup do you use? i've tried changing res and refresh rates a bit but particularly when watching movies it just looks not that good to me on the quest 2...
Nobody beats the guy I found on eBay who scored Quest 3 for $147 just because the package was a bit yellowish because of the sun but it was still unopened. I hope to find a deal like that.
Thanks for throwing your hat into the ring with this.. My first and only experience with VR was the Occulus Rift S and I was impressed enough that the desire to get back into VR hasn't left me. My quandary has been a budgetary one, but the overwhelming concern is whether it's truly a mindful saving going with the Quest 2 (still ostensibly a step up from the Rift S, although many seem to call it a side upgrade) or take the leap to Quest 3. Having some experience of VR makes me feel that the Quest 3 is the right choice but it's insight such as this which helps me weigh the option, so thanks!
Wait a year until next Black Friday and buy a quest 3.. quest 2 will end up like the quest 1 in a few years.. abandoned with nothing in the future being compatible with it. A quest 3 can last you 10 years
I have never tried vr but am looking at getting a setup. I was leaning to the quest 3, if I can store the games on my pc then the 128g would be enough. I was thinking about getting the 2 as it's half the cost, but might be worth getting the 3.
Reason why i keep the quest 2 is use it for extra headset for guests and as a ir night vision google 😅 with the ir illuminator or use a ir flashlight its actually better. The quest 3 colour passthrough doesn't work well in dark even with the ir flashlight
Nice video! One thing not mentioned is multiplayer on having a quest 3 and quest 2. I have done this with having both the quest 1 and quest 2 to play with the kids on several games. Does feel like a downgrade going back to older headsets but it makes up for it playing vr multiplayer.
@@eddiesenn3005 no, you can share the same games between headsets, even between different users. So child user profiles can use the same games. If you don't do separate profiles then some multiplayer games get a bit confused with having same profile on two headsets, so end up having a second profile sharing the same games. One is like master profile, others act like secondary profiles that can use the same games.
Finally, someone who reviews headsets in terms like "feel", "comfort", and "blurry", instead of terms like "pixels", "milliamps", and other tech terms. Thank you!
I bought a Quest 3 first and decided to get a second VR set and got the Quest 2 for multiplayer in house. I was impressed with how good the Quest 2 for the price! Amazing! I'm super happy with both units and the battery issue is pretty easily solved with a battery pack, which I already had.
I've had my Quest 3 for about 2 weeks, and have been very happy with it, (aside from a few small bugs that I quickly resolved). Although the battery does drain pretty quick, I personally haven't noticed a drastic difference from the Quest 2, which also drained very fast for me. I did put some grips and hand straps on the controllers, and also just upgraded to a better and more comfortable head strap (with a backup battery), but my Quest 2 had that as well, lol. Long story short, I really can't tell a major difference in the internal batteries, while everyone else makes it out to be such a drastic downgrade.
The battery is a huge issue, 2hrs and the ridiculous drive space are the only problems I have. The quest 3 is amazing, but storage is so cheap now. There’s no excuse for the small space on the base model. Still love the headset though, the clarity is amazing.
i put my quest 2 back on just to factory reset it so i could gift it to a friend... i was amazed how bad it looked. its amazing how quickly we get used to technology and how hard it is to go back once you know what is out there lol
@@challenger516 its enough that I wouldn't recommend the quest 2 to anyone at this point... id tell anyone and everyone to just save up and get the quest 3
For the battery saver mode, where you running 'Meta Quest build 57.0' or 'Meta Quest build 59.0' as I do believe releases 57 display a 'Battery Saver' option when the developer mode is enabled and that version of the battery saver mode simply prevented the screen rendering from bumping-up virtual matrices resolution.
I sold my Quest 2, and the most I could get for it was 40% of what I paid. But I do like the Quest 3. Waiting for a decent battery headstrap to be released..
I got my kids the Quest 2 for Christmas and I can't believe how good it is for the £250 price. The newer lenses in the 3 sounds like a nice improvement, especially as we are regularly swapping the headset between me and the kids of different head sizes. It always takes a while to get the position/focus right.
I went from the Quest 2 to a Quest Pro and it was a huge difference for me in both comfort and visual quality and the hardware felt less cheap(the cost certainly wasn't). Not sure if the Quest 3 would be a huge upgrade for me going from the Pro.
A Q3 vs QPro might be more about preference than one winning over the other. The Q3's higher processing power will allow better atmospheric mood thanks to the lighting and shadows but the QPro's oled screen (I imagine) would be fantastic for those who enjoy darker games (horror) thanks to the darker darks as well as social games/apps thanks to the eye/mouth tracking. Would definitely fall under Sidegrade than an upgrade. Just trading a better screen & facial tracking for better performance & improved AR capabilites.
@@mica4977 I'm probably just going to stick with my Pro then because most of the time, I'm using it for PCVR anyways and it's going to be hard beating the clarity of the screen. Thanks for the insight!
@@rodneyabrett Worthwhile getting second opinions but am glad my input could be of help. I believe the Q3 does have a minor upgrade in resolution but once more it comes down to trading the slight bump in pixel density vs the better blacks/darks in games.
@@darceyderosa2426 My Quest pro is a hybrid system. I sometimes use it for standalone Quest games and sometimes use it as a PCVR device. Quest 3 has the better processor and graphics for standalone games. There's also some game titles that are only available on Quest and not PCVR.
Upgraded from Rift S to quest 3, all i can say is untethered PCVR is dangerously immersive. Not needing to setup my roomscale every two weeks is really a treat. I could barely notice the screendoor effect anymore although it sucks to need to purchase 3rd party strap just to get better fit and extend the battery life. Setting it up took a bit of effort as i know close to nothing about routers and stuff but once it works its just wonderful. All i need now is for a better PC so i can push this thing to the max.
If you're like me and you prefer desktop computing in VR. The Q3 is a no brainer. 100% worth the upgrade. The gaming side is debatable, but for using apps like immersed and workspace. Don't even think about it, get it.
Coming from the Pico 3 / 4 and Quest 2 i like the Quest 3 a lot. Especially the higher performance is noticable and even Grid Legends looks decent now. There are some "downgrades" from Quest 2 though. a) there is a noticable vignette on the Quest 3 about 20-25% from the left and right, where the image gets darker. b) On the Quest 3 you see Mura, which is not visible on Quest 2, c) There is no support for 60Hz (at the moment) on Quest 3. d) The binocular overlay on Quest 2 is better. But in the end, all of those issues does not let me get back to the Quest 2.
Im loving my Quest 3. Easy enough to get a 30watt pd usb battery bank, to make up for battery life. So best of all words, stand-lone VR MR, wireless or wired PCVR. Amazed
4:28 not necessarily, here’s my reason, if you have a pc and the side quest advanced application, if you click on the wrench on the top right you can enter a bunch of hardware related setting such as processing speed and resolution, that being said, with processing power at max, and resolution at the 2nd to highest level, you can practically match the clarity and performance of the quest three. (The changes are temporary so whenever you fully turn off your headset they will revert back to the default setting)
I have a similar experience going from the Quest Pro back to the Quest 2. I could never EVER go back to the 2. I'm still on the fence between Quest 3 and the Pro. I remember initially feeling like the Quest 3 image felt less vibrant then the Pro. IDK if it has to do with the foveated rendering. I went back to the Pro a second time about a month after that initial transition and The Pro is 100% more comfortable. I didnt notice much (if any) difference in image quality. And I felt the Pro's FOV was SLIGHTLY smaller, or oriented different... I couldnt put my finger on it. Quest 3 controllers are the worst out of the three. WIthout that ring sticking out, it losing tracking during different movements more than Quest 2 or Pro. I want to pair my Quest Pro controllers to the Quest 3. They are garbage. Rather have Quest 2 cntrollers paired to the 3. I see absolutely no upgrade to using the Quest 3 controllers in any ways. They made it sound like they are gonna be fancy or some shit.
For me, The quest pro has ruined every other headset there is for one fundamental reason - I can wear it for hours. With a minor top head strap mod, it's by far the most conformable headset I've worn, so PCVR via link with the Pro is finally the VR I've wanted since I first got my Vive back in 2016.
Quest 3 is a great experience, but the charging experience is terrible. You cannot charge it fast enough so the battery is going to die. I did some testing and found that the headset draws 5.1v and 1.5a from the wall. So clearly the Quest 3 is drawing more power than it can draw from the wall. I tested using a usb digital hub that shows power consumption. I also tested with my USB C cable with power injection. I really hope they fix this because anyone that does sim racing is going to need extended playing time. On my quest 2 I could maintain an 80% charge while playing and plugged into my pc using a usb cable with power injector. I really hope there is a software fix for this problem. Pancake lenses are legit though.
The quest 2 never used to lag at all but funnily enough, when the quest 3 came out software updates have since introduced that lag and glitchiness you mention. Funny that.
sold my Q2, bought Q3, used it a week, didn't like MR, gave me eye strain after 30 mins to an hour even with a different headstrap (never had an issue with eye strain on Q2), controller tracking was worse on certain fast past games like beatsaber the main game I play on Q for fitness, battery life was ass, since the Q2 still gets support the Q3 is being underutilised, both are capable of PCVR where the PC matters more than the headset. So I ended up selling the Q3 and got the Q2 again. will upgrade once the Q4 comes out or possibly once support for Q2 gets dropped
The Quest 3 is a crazy VR/XR headset worth upgrading. I am a fan of flight simulation and racing simulation games. The existing Varyo Aero or Pimax Crystal are worth throwing in the trash. That's how much the Quest 3 headset device is a headset with infinite development.
Had my birthday recently and was contemplating on whether to buy the quest 3 or the quest 2 second hand (it's a 3rd of the price with accessories!!) - took a quick browse at FB marketplace and found a pair that was worn only 2 times [!], came with an elite strap and a carrying bag and was for 200$ so I went for it. I LOVE MY QUEST 2! the major downside is the lenses which I only realize now isn't an issue in Quest 3.. I also wear glasses so if either the headset or my glasses have a tiny bit of an offset I have to take the whole headset off and reput it on and a lot of times I just say the heck with it and play single handed while the other hand is fixing my headset and that's.. well.. uncool..
Abit before the 3 came out,one of my controllers took a dump on my q2. I decided to wait and grab a q3 assuming it would have the same self-tracked controllers of the pro. I realize at launch that the 3 doesn't have said controllers. Just revised light tracked controllers like the 2. Well my headset is still perfect. Plenty clear for my half blind eyes. And I have invested in the battery elite strap as well as the vr cover facial interface. So I decided to just buy the pro controllers stand alone. Spent more then I think is sane, but I'm happy with them. Now I just need to get a new stock and hand straps for Pavlov and other shooters.
i use my quest 2 for exercising. the bobovr f2 fan that stops the lenses from fogging up + their far superior face gasket makes it essential. It took me a good while and a few RMA's to find how to sweat proof the quest 2. I dont really fancy dropping 500 quid on something I wont be able to use as my daily driver. Though I might do, I do game on the quest now and then. Just mostly pistol whip and thrill of the fight.
I got one of those fans ( from a different brand though) for my quest 2 and it just makes my eyes super dry and uncomfortable. Maybe because mine is blowing air down infront of my eyes.
@@Ballissle I only use it when I know i'll be sweating heavily. Also, this brand sucks the air out of the facial gasket, there is one that blows air into the facial gasket. I imagine that would dry the eyes more.
@@Ballissle sorry missed your reply. Sucking the air out doesnt bother me at all while I'm sweating and working out. It will dry my eyes out if I use it on a less active game but then theres no real reason to use it for normal gaming anyway unless you steam up all the time.
I bought a quest 2 like 3 months ago, and upgraded it with few premium accessories, like headstrap, controller grips, face cover, gunstock, table tennis racket, golf club... with all the upgraded it costed me around the 700$. I've been thinking about selling it with all those accessories at a loss and get the quest 3, but then I need to purchase all those upgrades again as they're not compatible. I dunno if it's worth it! I'm really enjoying the quest2, but all the good things I hear about the 3 make me wanna go for it! 😅
Capitalism is based entirely on the premise of "want". And all the stuff you read promotes "wanting". If you're really enjoying Quest 2 continue to do so. Because as sure as shit, if you buy Quest 3 then one year down the line you'll be posting the same comment about wanting Quest 4. Just to put this in context, I've been gaming at 1080p on a ryzen 2600/gtx1070 build since 2019 and this has played every game I've wanted to play really well. I'm thinking of getting a Quest 2 as my first step into VR because they're cheap as hell. And I'm pretty sure the "wow" factor I get from it will be 10x more than the wow factor I get between q2 and q3. The law of diminishing returns etc...
I know the Q3 is better in every way But when I finally got my Q2 then a year later the Q3 came out I cannot justify upgrading to the Q3 when the Q4 comes out I Will definitely upgrade then nice video 👍
I have never used VR and have been offered a Quest 2 for £70. Do you think that's a good deal? I would want to use it for PCVR - simracing and DCS specifically.
The Q3 + Elite Strap + Chinstrap = all day comfort. A simple chinstrap like you would find on a bicycle helmet or skating helmet takes 100% of the weight off the front, letting you have a secure fit, without the headset being smashed against your face. If you didn't use an external battery with your Q2, you did not spend much time in VR. A 30watt USB battery is less than $50 and will let you use the Q3 all day long.
Yeah in the bin some one can find it and be a very happy person, he should have said goes in the bon fire lol just kidding but if I lived in his town Id be checking his bin daily 😂
On the battery, yeah the Q3 eats more battery. It also has a larger battery and still empties it faster. The gen 2 chip itself draws more power (gen 1 is 50%'ish more power efficient), but also needs to work more in most cases. For example, even if you turn the additional hand tracking off, the controller tracking is now more complex with the rings gone. I wish we would still get to a solid 2+, or 2.5+ hours of use tho, independant of the usecase. The 1.5 hours or so we mostly get feels too short. Sadly, this is the predicament we will face in the future. Most of the actual size and weight of the Q3 comes from the battery alone. If we want ever increasing performance and batteries dont make a huge breakthrough in power density, then for the coming generations we will either be looking at shorter and shorter battery lifes, default hot-swappable batteries, or simply external battery solutions like on the vision pro. That's more or less the direction it *will* have to go, considering the Q3 is already borderline acceptable in terms of battery life.
Okay but I'm planning on keeping a large powerbank in my pocket and just plugging in after an hour. Won't this solve most of the issues since my powerbank is like 3000mah?
I sold my Quest 2. But I kept my Quest Pro. I use the Quest pro, for PCVR because it's already hooked up to my PC, and has been dialed in to the way I want it. I use the Quest 3 when I either want to watch movies, when I don't have a TV available, (I'm moving, so it happens) or for Xbox GamePass once in a while.
Population one has a huge graphics upgrade on Quest 3 for anyone wondering. HUGE resolution increase, better bump mapped textures on most things. Way further draw distance and runs smooth as butter. So definitely more demanding which will have an effect on battery life. Quest 3 will need an external battery though, unless you’re just a drop in and out gamer. No properly long sessions I’m afraid with the internal.
@@ItsSamuelJones officially the headline updates are: Runs at 90 FPS 44% larger eye buffer for higher resolution graphics 200% increased LOD distance for better resolution assets on the Battle Royale Maps Go back and forth and check the hand textures, there’s a significant jump in detail. I’m honestly surprised you’ve not noticed? It’s been out a while now.
I spent an afternoon playing HLA switching between quest 2 & 3, was definitely a clearer image, difference wasn't worth spending £500 imo, so sent to Q3 back for a refund. If it had come with massive FOV increase I might have kept it - The Q3, much like the Q2 still felt like wearing goggles.
On population one I've noticed the top 3rd of the screen is lower resolution and you can quite clearly see a horizontal line going through the lenses. Easiest way to test this is when in the menu and you see you're character look down the character and your notice what I mean the upper part of the screen is low res and fuzzy
One thing I found is that I play games like gorilla tag were I move my hands fast and sometimes behind me so I was hopping that it would be better then the quest two but I was very disappointed in the tracking it is noticeable worse and the tracking stutters every time I move fast
I think the other thing to consider is that now ppl are upgrading to quest 3, the quest 2 can be bought used on places like eBay for £150-200 which drastically affects that value gap as well.
I returned my quest 3. The tracking was so bad on the controllers I play Kingspray graffiti but it wouldn’t track correctly due to the LED placement and removal of the rings.
Okay look. I've had the Quest 3 ever since it came out and I'm about to shatter everyone's little bubble around it, but the past Through isn't that good. It's really grainy the graphics aren't that good because there's no games there are optimize for it there is blur around the edge of the lenses. By the way, I have experienced way more frame drops on my Quest 3 of my quest 2 and I still have experienced audio popping
Arizona sunshine 2 is pretty damn good for its pretty simple wave modes for people that are new-ish to VR. It also has a campaign if your friend consistently comes over. Dungeons of Eternity and Contractors have been the ones I've been playing with friends lately however, although they own their headsets allowing us to play more frequently.
Why can't we swap lenses and/or get a depth sensor adapter for the Quest 2? The sensor would probably take workload off of the system while providing better B&W passthrough and tracking
I went from Vive cosmo to the Quest 3 & it's night & day difference in quality. Quest is just far far superior image quality & just overall experience. Wireless just so much more immersive.
I will upgrade to Quest 3 next year. NEVER buy tech when it first comes out. Let the rich do that. The only reason I'm buying it is because I've heard they solved the glare problem. 70%-80% of my VR use is video media like virtual movie theaters, and TH-cam 360 and 180 3D videos (the latter is the most exciting thing to me since the birth of the internet). Big Screen has yet to figure this out, which is insane considering their primary market is virtual movie thheaters.
Me and my wife both have the Quest 2 but they were just gathering dust, I didn't touch mine for the last 18 months, but now I'm getting back into VR the Quest 3 seems a nice visual upgrade and the MR side of things is kinda cool. I got my wife to have a go on the included MR game on the Quest 3 and she loves it coz she suffers from VR sickness and only wants to play static experiences. She's now ordered the Quest 3 and we will probably try out Demeo and the new LEGO game. Both our Quest 2's are gonna get sold ASAP.
The big thing here that is keeping me on the Quest 2 and not upgrading is because here in NZ the price of the Quest 3 is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the quest 2 good heavens Gonna need a price drop on that one
i just got my quest 2 a couple of weeks ago, and i must say that it is still worth buying today. originally i was planning to get the quest 3 but its just not available at the time when i went out to buy one, and because i dont want to go home empty handed, i ended up buying quest 2, and used the money i saved to buy accessories, and games such as assassins creed, golf+, demeo, demeo battles and tennis 11. i agree that the clarity of the video is a game changer, and the mixed reality feature is fantastic, nevertheless, i dont regret getting the quest 2 at all.
Regarding battery saving setting. If you do such testing, you really should have taken statistics into account. You cant derive the result from just one example. If done properly, you would need to either track power ussage as a function or you would require lets say 30-50 repeated testing under similar conditions to determine the statistical distribution, so you can compare both.
The Quest 3 is better but not by allot. The Quest 2 is still good to use and it shows how VR tech really hasn’t evolved much. Besides games looking more clear on the 3 you really won’t see much more difference. The Quest 2 can do about 98% of everything the Quest 3 can do. The OS is identical so everything you can do on Quest3 you can do on the 2. They are like twins it’s just the Quest 3 is a little more refined but if you got a Quest 2 you really won’t feel much of a difference with the 3.
This will proabably only be the case for the first year and a half or so. More and more development will skew to the 3 as Meta and developers really delve into the capabilities. It was the same between the Quest 1 and Quest 2. I still have my Quest 2 from launch as well and going back to back...ya for sure different enough to warrant an upgrade if you can swing it. If not, then sure quest 2 is fine
I'm gonna be honest, I don't understand all the hype for the quest 3 lenses. At least with mine, there's always a sort of dark, blurry vignette around the edges, and it's a huge immersion breaker. But apparently that's just how pancake lenses are and I either have to get used to it or get a different headset.
@@leoneljoseph6357 Knowing Meta and some of the marketing stunts they pulled off with the Quest 2, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if there was an early sale
I'm pretty sure the price is only going to go up. It is heavily suggested they are selling at cost or even loss for the basic headset, to soak up the market and make money off extras and apps, before hiking up the price based on positive word of mouth. Remember what they did with the Quest 2. Even used Q3s will be more than new ones are now I reckon. If you're going to wait for Quest 3's to get CHEAPER, that means waiting at best for Q4 to be announced.
I'm just about to get an (supposed) rarely used Quest 2 today just because I"m curious, I do have an original HTC Vive that I bought at launch but the resolution is not the best, I want to see if the quest 2 have better resolution or not compared and maybe in a few months I'm getting a Quest 3.
@@williamswartwood86 I have a quest 2 now and resolution is way better, I must say the tracking is also great, only problem was when my hands was behind my back, the convenience factor is what I like the most, I’m going to get a quest 3 in the future for sure.
So im hearing a lot of "slightly better" and "somewhat better", which isn't really pushing me to buy a Quest 3. I also noticed i only started having some slight lag issues on my Quest 2 after it updated shortly around the time the Quest 3 was coming out. Makes ya think...
@@ItsSamuelJones Still on the fence. Have you purchased and played any of these on the Quest 2 before buying the Quest 3... Brink Traveler, Jurassic World VR Demo, Star Wars Pinball and or Spheres? These are my Favorites and if you have experience wit these does the Quest 3 make the overall imagery much better?
Of course this is 6 months down the line, but another reason to get the Q3 (if you can, of course) is that due to the FAR superior processor, games are already being made for Quest 3 alone, not even the Q2(and these are NOT Mixed Reality games either, Batman Arkham Shadow is just one example).
I think the graphics on Population One are much better. It's much clearer, and the textures are much better. Also, the mics are muddie on Population One. The batery life does suck on Q3. Have multiple bobovr batteries pays off.
Is it true that tracking on the Q 2 is better than Q3? They say beat saber is best playing in Q 2 than Q3? Is this true? im getting confused cause i was about to buy the q3 nd then i heard about this. Pls tell me your take on this. Thank you.
My Q3 can no joke, track my hands and controllers in a near pitch black room with only dark purple LED string lights dimly lighting it up. I cant even see my own feet its so dark but it just works. What you're referring to is the headset using a sort of algorithm to predict where you're hands are going to go in order to more accurately follow its movements, which is what some people are complaining about. However, the only people ACTUALLY suffering this are Beat saber supremacist tryhards that are so godlike at the game that they noticed something was barely off, and took to complaining about it. For 99% of people, it wont be an issue. For the 1% that only play beatsaber, it still isn't even that big of an issue-- theres plenty of videos on YT that debunk it being an "issue".
the thing I noticed that the quest 3 is software blurred despite the pancakes lenses, I didnt liked that on beatsaber, you can notice the pixels! if you look away at the edge, and the refresh rate is lower on 3 than the 120Hz on the 2
I wouldn't call the Quest 3 lenses game changing. Game changing suggests a fundamental change in technology going forward. The Quest 3 pancake lenses offer a larger sweet spot and is what VR headsets should have offered in the first place.

Now we just need to new amazing games

exactly the same here. My Quest 2 is decked out and for what I'd get out of it, there's more value to holding on to it for others to enjoy VR with me.
If you are looking for a good new game i suggest Into The Radius. It looks great on the quest 3 and it is really good :)
Apple vr then playstation vr then magic leap then microsoft hololense after that comes quest 3 as worth your money if you ask anyone with a actual computer science degree and common sense to what vr is and which device do you get more bang for your buck with and after that its pc vr so master race comes dead last and they dont even realize it
The quest 3 is amazing my daughter had the quest 2 it was alright compared to to the quest 3 much better

The quest 3 is 10000 times better and its worth the extra few quid
Exactly like me ! It was mindblowing when I jumped directly on 3.

Like if I'm spending a couple hundred on something I'll probably hope to get a couple years of use. I'm pretty excited but I might wait a bit to save up for the 500gb. Also, I have glasses, and I have heard the 3 is best for nerds.
only drawback of quest 3 is battery, cost and disk size. Otherwise its just superior
between the quest 3 and the quest 2, yeah.
What is disk size?
@@ScizorCrafti wouldn't say lazy, but they're focusing on things people don't really want.

@@thebellcurve3437exactly! For Quest 2 owners, the 3 isn't worth the hype.
I recently did the same thing, went back to the quest 2 as the 3 was being used by another family member. I only really play beat saber, so this is a comparison for that game only.
Things I noticed right away:
1.) refresh rate of the quest 3 is noticeable.
I just got into VR, i bought the quest 2 as its was 300 bucks cheaper. i will upgrade if i start to use it alot.

That's a great point about the multiplayer, fam! I didn't even consider that :)
Do you have to purchase the games again if you get a second Quest 3 to play in the same room with friends and family?
@@eddiesenn3005 no, you can share the same games between headsets, even between different users. So child user profiles can use the same games. If you don't do separate profiles then some multiplayer games get a bit confused with having same profile on two headsets, so end up having a second profile sharing the same games. One is like master profile, others act like secondary profiles that can use the same games.

I bought a Quest 3 first and decided to get a second VR set and got the Quest 2 for multiplayer in house. I was impressed with how good the Quest 2 for the price! Amazing! I'm super happy with both units and the battery issue is pretty easily solved with a battery pack, which I already had.
Great to hear!

Can this trick make quest 3 better
So glad I watched the whole thing. The title was kind of misleading.
I thought you had ditched the Q3 and gone back to Q2😅
How long can you play while it's plugged into your PC?
Now I just need to get a new stock and hand straps for Pavlov and other shooters.
after the battery saver option, i saw a massive improvement.
i use my quest 2 for exercising. the bobovr f2 fan that stops the lenses from fogging up + their far superior face gasket makes it essential. It took me a good while and a few RMA's to find how to sweat proof the quest 2.

Thats like in 2 years...
I have never used VR and have been offered a Quest 2 for £70. Do you think that's a good deal? I would want to use it for PCVR - simracing and DCS specifically.
Yea thats a good deal
The Q3 + Elite Strap + Chinstrap = all day comfort. A simple chinstrap like you would find on a bicycle helmet or skating helmet takes 100% of the weight off the front, letting you have a secure fit, without the headset being smashed against your face. If you didn't use an external battery with your Q2, you did not spend much time in VR. A 30watt USB battery is less than $50 and will let you use the Q3 all day long.
bro flipped us off when he says "goes in the bin" 😭😭
That's a great review!
I'm jumping from the Rift S to the Quest 3 so it should by mind blowing
Nah😂😂, its my first time watching your vids and the whole time i thought you were in a really big room UNTIL YOU GRABBED THE QUEST 2 😂😂😂
Barely noticed a difference. Unless the update isn’t out yet
@@ItsSamuelJones officially the headline updates are:
Runs at 90 FPS
44% larger eye buffer for higher resolution graphics
200% increased LOD distance for better resolution assets on the Battle Royale Maps
Go back and forth and check the hand textures, there’s a significant jump in detail. I’m honestly surprised you’ve not noticed? It’s been out a while now.
Seriously ??? @@ItsSamuelJones The update is phenomenal! Now looks like PCVR, on standalone.
@@ItsSamuelJones i have just ordered a quest 3 thanks for comparing the differences between the quest 2
Yeah I think if you’re only using pcvr, the upgrade isn’t as big. Most of the upgrades you won’t notice
The mixed reality on quest3 is definitely a game changer. You should have sold it to me
I don't think I wanna get Quest 3 with that ATROCIOUS battery life holyyy
Quest 3 has a much more powerful processor and so uses more power. There's no issue with the battery.
On population one I've noticed the top 3rd of the screen is lower resolution and you can quite clearly see a horizontal line going through the lenses.
Easiest way to test this is when in the menu and you see you're character look down the character and your notice what I mean the upper part of the screen is low res and fuzzy
Yes I noticed this too. In power saver right?
@@ItsSamuelJones I don't think mine is in power saving mode, I'll double check.
To be fair, I noticed it in power saver but haven’t checked in the normal mode
@@ItsSamuelJones yeah it's the same on normal mode I've only noticed it with population one so far.
🤯
The binocular overlap on the quest 3 is driving me nuts but the quality is stunning overall
Same. I cannot ignore it.
I've tried everything so far and I never had a problem with previous headsets @@Saboy96
What about the QUEST 3 vs. HP G2 ? G2 is remarkable but I'd like to know a comparision.
One thing I found is that I play games like gorilla tag were I move my hands fast and sometimes behind me so I was hopping that it would be better then the quest two but I was very disappointed in the tracking it is noticeable worse and the tracking stutters every time I move fast
Helped a lot, think I'll just stay with my 2 for the amount I use it and the cost leap
I think the other thing to consider is that now ppl are upgrading to quest 3, the quest 2 can be bought used on places like eBay for £150-200 which drastically affects that value gap as well.
the battery life is such a HUGE compromise to me. guess i'll be sticking with my Quest 2 and just buy new controllers
I have both. How could I use the Q2 if I want to play with a friend being both at my home? Any ideas about co-op games or apps that we could use?
Wondering the same
Arizona sunshine 2 is pretty damn good for its pretty simple wave modes for people that are new-ish to VR.
The best thing about the pancake senses, is the way British VR channels say “pancake lenses” 😊
How do other English speakers say "pancakes"? 😂
What is wrong with the way I say pancake lenses 😂
I will upgrade to Quest 3 next year. NEVER buy tech when it first comes out. Let the rich do that. The only reason I'm buying it is because I've heard they solved the glare problem. 70%-80% of my VR use is video media like virtual movie theaters, and TH-cam 360 and 180 3D videos (the latter is the most exciting thing to me since the birth of the internet). Big Screen has yet to figure this out, which is insane considering their primary market is virtual movie thheaters.
There’s still some glare but not nearly as bad. Might be specific headsets / defective headsets that have it. My Q3 did though.
Been hearing that TH-cam still does not look good or that you can't raise the resolution on it .sucks for now
The price is going to increase by $100. I guarantee it. They are selling at cost or loss right now to gain the market and make money off extras.
Get a magneticly held phone cable and a pocket battery. Normal cables have the usb type-C side shear off.
I upgraded to shinecon vr from air and i can tell difference for real (cant afford any more higher amount of money at turkey😢)
was this done with quest game optimizer?
The big thing here that is keeping me on the Quest 2 and not upgrading is because here in NZ the price of the Quest 3 is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the quest 2 good heavens
Gonna need a price drop on that one
Sweden aswell. They keep calling the quest 3 ”expensive” at 499$. Its 660usd here. Taxes is a robery
you can make the quests resolution better on sidequest. + I think the quest 3 uses 90 hertz instead of the quest 2's 72 hertz explaining 3:25
What would you say for someone like me who still has the Rift S? Would you think the upgrade is worth it?
i just got my quest 2 a couple of weeks ago, and i must say that it is still worth buying today. originally i was planning to get the quest 3 but its just not available at the time when i went out to buy one, and because i dont want to go home empty handed, i ended up buying quest 2, and used the money i saved to buy accessories, and games such as assassins creed, golf+, demeo, demeo battles and tennis 11. i agree that the clarity of the video is a game changer, and the mixed reality feature is fantastic, nevertheless, i dont regret getting the quest 2 at all.
Yeah but just trying to give a real world example
@@ItsSamuelJones thats ok, I'm just giving advice. You could ask for example your viewers submit data and then analize it.
The Quest 3 is far better..😂
@@blazer666delyou're just saying that cause you dropped 600 dollars
@@SuperJoshuaWorld64 or maybe its just better?
I'm gonna be honest, I don't understand all the hype for the quest 3 lenses. At least with mine, there's always a sort of dark, blurry vignette around the edges, and it's a huge immersion breaker. But apparently that's just how pancake lenses are and I either have to get used to it or get a different headset.
Loving the sound of Quest 3, but if I do get it, I might wait for a sale like Black Friday or something. That price is hefty.
It won't go on sale on black Friday, it's too early
Price isn't too bad, but I get it. Luckily its not like a Rift S or a Vive
@@leoneljoseph6357 Knowing Meta and some of the marketing stunts they pulled off with the Quest 2, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if there was an early sale
They usually just sell bundles with software on Black Friday. So you'll spend more money but save on the software.
I'm just about to get an (supposed) rarely used Quest 2 today just because I"m curious, I do have an original HTC Vive that I bought at launch but the resolution is not the best, I want to see if the quest 2 have better resolution or not compared and maybe in a few months I'm getting a Quest 3.
soooo much better than the vive, in both resolution and handd tracking, yeah? how you liking it?
@@williamswartwood86 I have a quest 2 now and resolution is way better, I must say the tracking is also great, only problem was when my hands was behind my back, the convenience factor is what I like the most, I’m going to get a quest 3 in the future for sure.
Wait was the A Roll shot on an iPhone?? Looks clean
So im hearing a lot of "slightly better" and "somewhat better", which isn't really pushing me to buy a Quest 3. I also noticed i only started having some slight lag issues on my Quest 2 after it updated shortly around the time the Quest 3 was coming out. Makes ya think...
i mostly use my Quest 2 for Trucking/Racing sim so the controllers don't matter to me. Do you think it's worth the upgrade for me?
Yeah, the q3 is much better
Got the q2 for $200 with every attachment and I love it. No lag or choppiness whatsoever
for pcvr go quest 3 unless you can somehow get pancake lenses on quest 2 then you may as well go for that
That VR face on you tho! Thing one has to sacrifice to produce a proper review :)
My meta quest Remote Desktop app does not work on my pc, is it supposed to break, and if so, should I use steam link?
Hi Samuel. I own the Quest 2. Use it mostly for watching movies. Is the Quest 3 look much better on movies to retire my Quest 2.
It’s a better resolution and the lenses are better/less blurry. It would be better but up to you whether it’s worth the upgrade
I added a battery plus strap which fixed any battery and comfort issues. It is an extra charge but at least its a solution
i made the pancake lenses mod even on my first vive from 2015 and the difference was huge, one of the main reason i got q3 is pancake lenses.
Thank you.
q3 has far far superior tracking, no idea where you heard that but a q3 is literally a direct upgrade aside from the battery life
My Q3 can no joke, track my hands and controllers in a near pitch black room with only dark purple LED string lights dimly lighting it up. For the 1% that only play beatsaber, it still isn't even that big of an issue-- theres plenty of videos on YT that debunk it being an "issue".
the thing I noticed that the quest 3 is software blurred despite the pancakes lenses, I didnt liked that on beatsaber, you can notice the pixels! if you look away at the edge, and the refresh rate is lower on 3 than the 120Hz on the 2
whats the most comfortable headstrap ypu recommend for the quest 2?
I wouldn't call the Quest 3 lenses game changing. Game changing suggests a fundamental change in technology going forward.
The Quest 3 pancake lenses offer a larger sweet spot and is what VR headsets should have offered in the first place.
For the quest 2 wobbling, did replacing the strap help fix that? You did mention you tried multiple head straps for quest 2.
Some are better than others. But it will always have a bit of a wobble
Quest 3 problem the lens vignette effect that nobody is saying, quest 2 doesnt have it
