      Obi-wan absolutely turned his back on Anakin multiple times; leaving him to die a slow, painful death on Mustafar, his duel on the Death Star he barely acknowledged their brotherhood, and when him and Yoda basically ordered Luke to kill him twice. Luke was a better Jedi than Obi-wan and Yoda and that’s a high mark to achieve.

      Maybe I'm seeing this in a little different light but I also feel like there was a sense of acceptance and humility in admitting that he was wrong... Not just in denying that THERE was actually still good in him but that he also indirectly admitted that he was wrong when making those mistakes and turning to the dark side to pursue power, status, while he was dealing with his worries about saving Padme.
      I mean, who doesn't watch Episode III and wish and think everytime that Anakin would just kill Sidious or expect a different outcome each time you watch it... And that there would be resolve long before all the heartache... However, it wouldn't be worth watching if there was no conflict... (Granted not many people enjoy the JarJar trilogy as it is)

      @tinobemellow ปีที่แล้ว +94

      I'm of the belief that Anakin always wanted to be a father. Despite his seeming concern when Padme mentioned that she was pregnant, which was based more on his visions of her demise than apprehension about being a father, I can picture Anakin, who doubtless would want to give a child a better life than the one he received, as being as good a father as he was a husband. It also makes you realize how opposed in his heart he was to his own murder of children, to think that all he wanted was a child of his own. The regret at his deeds and the long-awaited chance to have what he always wanted must have weighed the heaviest on him at his death.

    • @Kaidofan-n4r
      @Kaidofan-n4r ปีที่แล้ว +28

      That his chance of meeting his children after their birth was lost due to his embrace of the dark side. But his moment of meeting them and their teens became short and brief. Although Princess Leia is his daughter without knowing and the young rebel is his son who will save him from what he has become to be.
      After Vader knew that that girl was a daughter. And this news stirred the intense shock in Anakin and he felt regret later for what he had done to her previously.

      I was four-ish when I first watched this movie and obviously didn't really remember that much from it (took me until my father's buddy lent us his Special Edition on VHS some three years later before I got around to actually become a fully fledged fan, capable of reciting the whole script by heart), but even then I did distinctly memorize one line from each part of the trilogy. And yes, that is precisely the one that got carved into my brain when it comes to Return of the Jedi.

      His skin is a deatly pale titanium white because it had been confined in the suit for over a decade and not being exposed natural sunlight.
      The dark can also cause the user's skin to a pale titanium white as one of the side effects of deep immersion and prolonged usage of the dark side.
      Palpatine and Darth Malgus were extensive, deep dark side used and it greatly disfigured them over time.
      Their eyes were a deep Indian yellow and permanent red and their skin was a deathly titanium white.

Yeah, they're rigid in their ways, but that's what they have to be in order to thrive. Anakin broke those rules and look where that got him. His decisions were bred of fear and selfishness and if the Jedi were so bad, why was Anakin the exception rather than the norm? The system worked for over 25,000 years, it took that long for the Sith to find a way to exploit it, and for only a 20 year Empire.

The Emperor thought that Luke would inevitably fall and join his side (also kill his father), the Jedi order (Obi-Wan and Yoda) thought that Vader was irredeemable and had to be killed by Luke. Luke did neither, he didn’t join Palpatine and he didn’t kill his father, he helped him redeem himself.

Luke would only become a jedi if he saved his father, his flesh and blood, also who was a broken jedi without any hope. I feel really bad for David Prowse (the person who was in the suit) as George Lucas screwed him badly. George never told Prowse his voice was being replaced and only found out when he saw the film. Years later he made the accusation he was stiffed by Lucas and Lucas responded by banning him from all conventions. The thing is Prowse loves Star Wars and loved playing Vader.

  • @_ADB
    @_ADB 2 ปีที่แล้ว +974

    I've always loved and still makes me emotional that during Darth Vader's unmasking and death, we can hear his theme, the Imperial March, in four different but absolutely gorgeous ways that make this already really emotional moment, even more special.
    First at 0:45, it sounds sinister... probably to underline what Luke was seeing in that moment, unmasking his father, removing piece by piece his mask, seeing exactly how he became "more machine than man".
    Then at 1:07 the theme becomes almost sweet, melodic, going along with Vader's smile and the happiness of Luke finally seeing his father's face, after he was able to redeem him.
    At 1:40 the theme becomes sadder as Vader is suffering while he also hopes Luke is going to tell his sister he was right... there was still good in him.
    Finally at 2:00, the theme is an extremely sad, soft harp melody. In my opinion both symbolizes Darth Vader's/Anakin's last breath and the end of his life. That theme that always sounded glorious and fiercely menacing is now a delicate, mourning ensemble of notes.
    God Bless John Williams!

He did it because he already lost Padme and Obi-Wan. He didn't want to lose his own flesh and blood. And when Obi-Wan forgives Anakin and decides to teach him the secret of being a force ghost is an incredible story. Anakin was never one who sought power for power's sake. I have this theory about vader: when ever he battled for the empire, be it in comics ,shows, movies, he probably hoped someone would actually defeat him and kill him so that his suffering which is his life would end. He wouldn't care about the legacy he left behind as Anakin Skywalker a hero and as Darth Vader a villain, he just wanted to die and be free of all pain, hatred and misery. He would have badly wanted to go in battle as he thought that was his only option, but when luke came along everything changed.

      He may have been viewed as a hero by his younger Jedi brethren, but the people he cared for most constantly looked down on him or endlessly criticized him, even the master that was effectively an older brother to him.
      That, and being seen as the Chosen One from the word go probably got around *rather fast* while being trained, which I'd bet was an instant turn off for anyone trying to make friends out of him when this random kid that shows up way later than anyone else is a sudden prodigy out of nowhere. Let's be frank, at BEST the guy was only ever surrounded by tough love outside of Padme, and going from literal slavery to that is not much of an improvement for his mental state.
      ...Also, remember, Old Republic Jedi stole children that were even remotely Force sensitive to train them. They *were* slave drivers to young Force users and Anakin was no exception. If you played Jedi: Fallen Order, there's a reason Cal does what he does by the end of that game and why Luke himself forms a completely different kind of order regardless of canon.
      tl;dr on that last paragraph: A gilded cage for a bird is still a cage nonetheless.

    • @williams268
      @williams268 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Biology doesn't lie You're correct, but remember Anakin was already "too old" when he was brought in. Most of the order didn't believe he could be trained properly. He had too much emotional baggage already and indeed it played a big part in his decision making throughout his life. His mother dying a slave and him not being able to save her scarred him forever. I think the Jedi's strict policies were occasionally too harsh on the very emotional and maybe even immature by nature Anakin. He wasn't built from the ground up as a baby to serve the temple like the others. He had other people in his life he cared deeply for, so it must have been very difficult to try and get Anakin to let go of his connections and give himself fully to the cause.
      I think him being a young immature kid, he resented the order at times for their policies and especially them constantly brushing aside his fears about his visions of padme dying. Maybe if he was an infant when he was brought in, his attachments to his mother wouldn't have caused such emotional and rash action from him. Anakin could never conquer his fear of losing those close to him. That certainly doesn't bode well for a potential Jedi knight. I agree with you overall though, the Jedi did their best with what they had. The prophecy was correct though, Anakin was the chosen one and he brought balance to the force. Just not in the way anyone could have imagined lol!
      Tldr I pretty much agree with you, but the council made some big mistakes with Anakin just IMO

      In terms of darth vader, he was only second banana to palpatine. He got used and thrown away like trash.

      I agree. I had to listen to it a few times but the imperial march plays 3 times during this scene. First with a flute after taking the mask off, second with some horn after Vader tells Luke he saved him, and finally with a harp when he dies.
      The overall impression I get is of fading away and that last one just caps it off so nicely.

    I think the best part of this scene besides Anakin finally being set free from his chains since birth is the fact Luke when taking off this mask of the most terrifying man in the galaxy and seeing this broken, old, damaged and pale man, he smiles. All he can do after the initial shock is smile at his father, powerful stuff.
