According to Ghamdi sb, there are two independent sources of islam :
1- Quran ( in the form of text)
2- Sunnat ( in the form of practice)
Further, he said that "hadees o rawayaat" is not an independent source of islam. He makes , and various scholars from past, also make clear distinction between Sunnat and Hadees.

@@HamzaKhan_HK that is where you have gotten it wrong. The timings and methods of salah (like other sunnah) has been mass transmitted from one generation to another generation. Now you may ask why is there difference of opinion in these matters if it was mass transmitted. So, the answer of this is actually not easy to be explained in just a comment. Ghamidi sahab himself has addressed these questions on multiple occasions. You can easily find his responses on TH-cam or in his writings.
You are free to disagree with his opinions but it would be very good if you first atleast try to understand what he says as how he says.

Acknowledgment of a great scholar of our time The Ghamdi Sahib by another highly knowledgeable scholar like Taimur gives a boost to both in scholarly circles and bring teachings of Ghamdi to mainstreams. I think it is high time that we understand the Islam as Allah and Holy Prophet intended and not through the eyes of historians and scholars of early era of Islam for their era. Humanity has progressed massively in last two centuries. Muslims needs to revisit lot of new era phenomenon in every walk of life if they ever have a chance to stay in any meaningful competition in the world society. Without this intellectual evolution we risk getting extinct. We need people like you to show us light and enlighten us.

What if there is Non-Muslim Govt and it declares war. Is the Jihad still valid even if it's started by the Non-Muslim govt. For example, a Muslim person is fighting for a Non-Muslim govt e.g. a Ukrainian Muslim is fighting for his state, whether it will be considered a jihad?

Please note the significant religious discord regarding Sufism, which is seen by Ghamidi sb as a parallel religion to Islam. This has fueled the animosity of Barelvi and Deoband scholars towards Ghamdi Sahab. Both of these schools of thought have foundations in Sufism, tracing their lineage to Shah Waliullah and further back through centuries of Sufi tradition. As a result, followers of Sufism find it very painful when their beliefs are criticized.

I also believe that the work he is doing-none of which is entirely original, as he primarily translates and builds upon the scholarly contributions of his mentors from the Farahi School-is extremely valuable in countering the irrational and extremist agendas that are prevalent in our society.
I would also like to note that I consider myself a "liberal-minded"(for the lack of better term) Muslim, with a deep respect for Islamic values, such as family roles, gender norms, and the cultural ethics shaped by Islam’s socio-political landscape.
    1. While Ghamidi (sahib) is an intelligent and well-read, it’s difficult to assert that he is a fully authentic, objective, and unbiased researcher. Much of his perspective is utilitarian; his analysis often seems influenced by the outcomes he aims to achieve. Frequently, he commits equivocal fallacies to arrive at these pre-determined conclusions.
    2. Ghamidi (sahib) doesn’t seem to recognize that producing a balanced conclusion is not necessarily the mark of true research. For instance, if a multiple-choice question has options A or B, an honest researcher would aim to identify the correct answer. However, someone overly focused on "balance" might conclude, incorrectly, that the answer is A+B/2. True balance should lie in conducting an unbiased, multi-dimensional analysis-not in the conclusion itself. The appeal of Ghamidi’s work, in part, comes from its seemingly balanced nature, but balance in the outcome doesn’t necessarily equate to intellectual rigor.
    3. Ghamidi’s analysis contains inherent contradictions. Without delving too deeply, I’ll highlight one example (probably not the best example, but I hope It conveys the meaning): according to Ghamidi, there is no concept of an Islamic state. However, he simultaneously argues that only the state has the authority to declare jihad. like seriously?
    4. Ghamidi’s understanding of science is notably limited. While he seems to have dabbled in scientific literature, his reading appears low-resolution and restricted. Though his philosophical arguments in favor of religion and against atheism are often strong, his references to science are unfortunately weak, misleading, and sometimes inaccurate.
In all fairness, Ghamidi (sahib) falls into the category of religious apologetics, a role that exists within every religious tradition. He is performing that role nicely enough, I just wanted to point to the lack of academic rigor and objectiveness that goes along. The lack of originality, coupled with an absence of unbiased, rigorous research, makes his work exceedingly predictable. It's almost an "ism" in itself-much like activists in various ideologies, he fails to synthesize personal experience with what he's read and researched. Instead of creating something genuine, surprising, and narratively engaging, his approach feels formulaic and outcomes extremely predictable.

Brother Sajid Ali, you produced a brilliant article.
      Your point#1 is highly appreciable.
Point#2 depicts some confusions that might be reconsidered.
Point#3 provides an example that highlights the fact how an incomplete information about something can sometimes harm an excellent analysis. The statement "there is no concept of an Islamic state" merely means that Islamic sources (the Quran and Sunnah) have nowhere obliged believers to establish a state called an Islamic State. This does not mean that Muslims living in majority in some region cannot establish a state. In case they do, they would have to follow the Quranic instructions addressed directly to them, one of which is to declare Jehad, @Taimur sb highlighted. Thus, the example as you mentioned that it might not be a good one to explain your claim. I think that the example is extremely good to explain what actually you wanted to; however not understanding the actual narrative by someone can result in concluding it into "inherent contradictions".
Point#4 mentions Ghamidi's limited understanding of science. Despite I heard Ghamidi sahib himself several times saying the same thing that he's just a basic student of science, I found him otherwise having a deep understanding of it.

1 - if state has no religion , how can state (which cannot be islamic ) wade jihad, which is an islamic concept ? how can a non-religious state have this authority to carry out this definitely religious idea?
2 - regarding takfir : if someone states that they are muslim but carry out actions which clearly contradicts islamic principles , who has the authority to contradict them ? and if they cannot be contradicted , how can we propagate islam to non muslims ? or how can Muslims clarify that actions of violence by non-state actors is actually not islamic , as they claim to be as much muslim as peaceful ones

The West suffered through the same dilemma of Religion controlling the State three decades ago. Thanks to the scholars of the 14th century, they broke away the State from the chains of religion and got set on the road to progress. However, we are still struggling with this dilemma, and it requires a significant effort not only on the part of present-day Islamic reformers like Ghamdi Sahib but also the general public to change their mindset by rejecting centuries-old myths.

So keeping"Iqra" in view I read different tafaseers of the Holy Quran as the first one "Tafseer-ibni- Kaseer" "Bayan-ul-Quran" and "Tafheem-ul-Quran" so far. So I can distinguish what is right and what is wrong through my knowledge.

An excellent salvo! Pithy encapsulation of a deep intellectual tradition, important as it is, however comes at the expense of nuance. It is nonetheless a great pointer to those who would choose to study the Farahi thought and Janab Ghamidi’s sterling contribution to the development of that thought. Indoctrinated with what you describe as dogma and habituated to terms that ease reception of apparently new ideas, it is easy to describe Ghamidi sahab’s thought as radical. It isn’t. And this is the most outstanding feature of his scholarship. While standing firmly within the parameters of scripture, he has forensically exposed the errors, fallacies and fancies that have grown over the centuries around the core normative values of religion. Feeding such invented fan fiction at the threat of eternal damnation has ensured perpetuation of clerical authority so much so that it is well nigh impossible for most to shed their respective confirmation biases. The parallels you have cited were the forerunners to the Reformation - there were quite a few others as well. The key difference is that these were attempted push backs to the growing oppressiveness - of thought and action - of the Catholic Church. Emphasis on ‘sola scriptura’ might give that impression of a parallel. However, in the Farahi school it is how that scripture unfolds over time and space to irrigate the landscape and the depths of human imagination and conduct. When that begins to happen, the vanity and pettiness of our conflicts, angers, accusations, frustrations, persecutions, agitations and false egos recedes into oblivion.

I watched this video from a critical mindset because the words like "Modernism" etc have caused more damage to Ghamidi sahab's teaching, who himself has never claimed to be a modernist or as someone presenting modern interpretation of Islam.
However, I found the video to be very good. Taimur sahab has very nicely summarized the points where Ghamidi sahab's opnion differ with our traditional scholars. And moreover, I felt the word "modernity" was used basically to draw parallel with past history. It was not used to imply that Ghamidi sahab is a "modernist". A word that our orthodoxy uses for him unfortunately in a negative sense.
Job well done Taimur sahab 😊

This for second time I listen to you. First time I heard you lecturing on the history of philosophy. Interestingly, I am a student of Philosophy so I enjoyedyour those lectures. And even more intrestingly, I have been a student of Ghamdi Sab, in Civil Service Academy, Walton Lahore so I enjoyed your this lecture too. Where I admire Ghamdi Sab there I do not go along with him on many issues. The recent one, when a pig heart was transplaned in a human, the first response of Ghamdi sab was that it was haram/ not allowed in Islam. I immediately commented that to save human life everything is allowed. Am glad after few days he reviewed his position. On the five topics you mentioned there is lot of room to differ with him. A faith is not suspended in the air, it reflects in people, who follow it. Hence the religion too is known through it followers. For instance India is a Hindu country and Pakistan a Muslim. A mere land without people is no country. Antarctica though a land but no country. If in future a majority Christians settle there it will be a christian country and both pork and wime will be legal served there. Allah has given laws parallal to human made laws. If a country is implementing those laws in their system that will be an Islamic country. No other religion has that comprehensive laws and that is why the Islamic state is debatable. Ghamdi Sab is trying to improve the packing of Islam to making it more acceptable, hence he is giving different explanations. In some cases he sounds correct but not all the time. Islam is giving a comprehensive way of life and any state following those laws will be an Islamic State. So how he can say a state has no religion. Any state implments human made laws will be a secular state.

Islam has a rich history of holding a diversity of opinions, interpretations and arguements that can simultaneously be in service of truth and social good.
One doesn't have to like or dislike Ghamidi Sb to accept that his explanations and interpretations have as much right to exist as others. And so the way to engage with Ghamidi Sb's work will not be through ridicule, or demeaning him, but with reflection, reasoning and thought. To operate from a place of intellectual courage, humility, clarity and openness and not let our personal prejudices about a certain person or their 'sect/background' ever discount the merit of their arguments :)

I have a different perspective. History should be used to learn and break the shackles of history. We, however, use history to justify the present. What I call Prisoners of History.
Ghamidi sahib generally has the right approach. I read and listen to him regularly. However, I do have few difficulties in understanding his thoughts on how to achieve the goals of what he profess to be the true essence of Islam.
Purpose of Islam is to achieve salvation in Hereafter, according to JAG. But the road goes through this life. The real issue is how to lead a life of purity, or tazkiya, without focusing on the community at large. Individually I might be doing everything right, but the society, which constitutes a country or state, has be governed by similar values and principles, or there will be huge conflict, like the one we see today. How to bridge this gap is the missing part.

Ghamdi Sahib argues that Islam lacks a distinct political and economic system, which I find questionable. A functioning society inherently requires political and economic frameworks, so how did Muslims manage to absorb two major empires without them? Ghamdi Sahib also asserts that the state should not have a religion, yet this perspective overlooks the complex dynamics of belief systems; humans have biases, as evidenced in Western societies where democracies often prioritize their own civilization.
I propose that while Islam's political and economic systems may not align with modern structures, they can be updated through ijtihad (independent reasoning) and consensus to address contemporary needs.

I don’t know if people have read his writings or watched his videos, but he explained all this in detail. His definition of Islam is straightforward, and I’m not sure why some people find it complex. Islam came to prepare us for what will happen to us in the afterlife (Aakhirat). The 'two major empires' adopted the frameworks of other empires that existed at that time. The Umayyad and Abbasid empires, for example, were monarchies, like most other empires around the world. In Western societies, an Asian or African Muslim can be elected as a state premier. In our more radicalized societies, this is not the case.

@@minhajdesigns I agree with you that Islam indeed prepares us for the Hereafter, but we must also manage this world in accordance with contemporary needs. Islam historically included a political structure, such as the roles of Caliph, governors, and an economic system with elements resembling the labor theory of value.
You mentioned monarchies but didn’t address the Caliphate system, where the Caliph was selected through a form of election. Even in monarchies, such as the Ottoman Empire, non-Arab rulers held power, demonstrating some flexibility.
In Western societies, the election of people of color often comes with expectations that they represent specific cultural interests. Even when they do, they may still face prejudice, as seen in the approval ratings of figures like Rishi Sunak. Western societies are still in progress, and so are ours. For our societies, we need to establish systems that fit our cultural context rather than adopting foreign changes that may trigger negative reactions.
