I used Shimano for 30 yrs mostly their cores and credos but switched to lewd 5 yrs ago and glad I did the BB1 pros and tournament pros have been flawless for me.
I own a variety of reels but a friend of mine turned me on to local company 'LEWS' a few years ago and now I own 12 lews reels and own quite a few of there rods as well and to me there is no comparison ! Not to mention there customer service is beyond amazing I have only had one issue with a reel which was my fault I walked into lews handed them the reel while telling them the problem and 4 min later I was walking out with a brand new reel no questions asked lews stands behind there products and there affordable they high amazing quality products I'm so glad i made the switch 3 years ago ... but I'm still not giving up my revos or my shimano reels and I just recently purchased a duckett to match my micro magic rod lol but I'm a lews fan for life
I have owned Shimano, lews and Abu. The lews blows the Shimano away the reason i say this is the casting , the lews cast like s dream, i have never had a whining noise from any of them. The custom pro,The bb1 pro are absolutely the best casting reels I have ever owned. The Winn grip knobs are also hands down the best knobs on the market. Abu's also cast great , the shimano's unless you go up to their top of the line reels, they cast poorly compared to lews and Abu's.
I've been using an abu revo inshore for a couple years now and never used anything else, until I left the back of my truck open one morning leaving for work and slung it across the road. 😕After going back over my tracks and not finding it I bought a lews Mach 1 and I couldn't be happier. It casts very smooth and quiet (even for braid) and has not given me any problems at all and is very comfortable I would recommend 10/10. On a side note I did buy an abu veritas rod and it's the best rod I've ever used for bass fishing.
I'm 57 and have been fishing since I was able to walk I think; Thank you dad! I have been a Spinning reel guy my entire life but I just ordered a Diawa Coastal TWS Saltwater Baitcasting Reel and matched it with a G Loomis Pro Green series rod. Can't wait to try it out and learn it's pro and cons. I do have some experience with bait casters, but definitely in the beginner category. I have a Diawa Whisker SS 1600 Tournament spinning real that is my favorite all around real matched to a Crowder E lite rod. Had it 30 years and works as well today as the day I bought it. They still make it and actually still about the same price. I do love my Shimano bait runner and TLD 30s for off shore. I presently use a Penn Saugus and a Quantum Kinetic for wading and general kayak fishing, but whether on my boat or kayak I'm always carting the 1600 with me. I'm hoping the Diawa Coastal turns into that kind of rig for me also.
Shimano all the way for me. I have owned others but always come back to Shimano. I have 2 Shimano Curado Bantams that I bought in the mid 90's. I have kept them cleaned and maintained and have never had a single problem with either of them. They're getting close to 30 years old. Shimanos never die!
Shimano 100% all the way. I’ve never had a problem with my reels and there just super durable. I’ve tried to dabble in to Diawa but I just couldn’t get into it. And Abu Garcia has always been a company that I’ve liked when I was just getting into fishing. I’m trying to get into lees and they seem pretty nice for the most part. Great vid and thanks for the info.
I have several Curados, and several Lews, a super duty, 3 Tournament Pro G's and a BB2, while I do like my Shimanos and they feel good in my hand they don't compare to my Lews Tournament Pro G, I've never been a fan of Abu or Daiwa but they make some good reels as well. My thing is with the Lews I can dial in the brake system so easy and I can get about 30-40 feet longer casts with my Lews vs Shimano with the same lure and line. The Shimano is a little heavier than my Pro Gs so the Lews are more comfortable to make 1000+ casts in a day of fishing. My Lews reel smoother (every model) than the Shimanos, I used to fish nothing but Shimano baitcasters but I am a Lews man now
my lews bb1 pro makes the same noise, i think it may be a bad spool bearing, if you tighten the spool tension nob and make a hard cast the noise goes away for a bit but soon returns. I absolutely love the reel as it performs awesome but i will definitely be replacing just the spool bearings with boccas
Lew's hands down. All great reels honestly but customer service is next to none on lews. Also ive had tons of people tell me they've dunked their lews reels and have done zero maintenance on them for 1-3 years and they still cast like they're right out of the box. I've fished all of these brands and still own an abu but I'll only stick with lews for the years to come. Just my .02
Appreciate your call for feed back. I have used Shimano since the 1980's....and went to Penn's because of the price points and availability where I was on vacation a few years back. Initially was very impressed, but had a few issues relative to durability....tried a Lews because it was on the Walmart shelf and I was curious. Hooked on their spinning reels now... started with their lower cost SG300, and its performed perfectly, Now have a TLP3000 spinning reels. AND agree with your observation on labeling..... time will tell if it survives the test of time like my 1980's era Shimano's that NEVER really ever wore completely out...... and the Shimano I got 3 years ago which also has worn well. Gave all my Penn's away....still have my first Shimano... :)
Btw, BB1 and the MB from lews are are absolutely amazing reels. The button has started sticking on my BB1 but i have put that reel through hell and back.
Gordy McGlynn don't be scared to take your reels apart i'm 14 and have been taking my shimano all the way apart for 2 year just watch a tackle junky video and line up the parts in the order you took them apart and you'll be fine
I have the same sound with all my Lews Pro G reels. Lube the break plate wth 2 drops or a Q tip. This is the sound of the plastic breaking pins rubbing on the break plate. I oil them every 3 outings. Pain in the butt yes but good reels.
1. Shimano The company started by producing bicycle component. 2. Daiwa the first manufacturer in the world to incorporate graphite to both reel bodies and rotors. and founder of mag force braking system. 3. Abu. Sweden engineering. Although the internal part of the reel ( one of them is spool thumb) won't last long. 4. Pen Reels & Rods Famous for saltwater game durability.
Just returned my tatula ct because it made some noise on retrieval. Not terribly loud but noticeable. Does yours do that as well? Pretty good reel otherwise, but I think I'll go grab the curado 200 k instead
Mine will have to be the 13 fishing concept series! As hard as I am on reels they all seem to have there flaws so none are perfect. I simply buy from Academy and save my receipts therefor if I do have a issue I have no worries. Nothing is more comfortable or out performs those reels for me.
I prefer Daiwa . My Laguna, T3 and Tatula ct have been rock solid. No problems. I won't run down the other makers as I haven't used them enough to have a opinion on them.
I'm personally an Abu guy. I fell in love with the reels after a bad experience with a quantum reel. I've thrown my friends lews reels and they felt smooth as well.
I have had 3 Bass Pro reels that sounded like that right away so I stripped them down and tried a really high quality oil that a Rep gave me to try. The bearings drank it up and no issues after that and I put my gear through hell at least once a week. I have always liked the drags on Shimano though and they seem the best out of the box.
Note that he said he used it 4-5 times and started doing that loud noise...he never mentioned anything about maintenance of the reel...all I have is shimano but I'm looking into lew's crush combo.. if you read your shimano manual it will tell you after every salt water use lube the bearings...in fresh water after every 4th time of use...
I have both Abu Garcia and lews fishing reels I lean towards the lews the casting and smoothness of the reel makes it so much more appealing than my Abu it feels as thoe there's always tension on the line
Nice review, I'm confused between Abu Garcia promax and Daiwa fuego ct 100xs. Which one to choose, since u said Abu has issue with its build quality, but fuego seems bit bigger, I have black max which compact now not so smooth, and kastking Royale legend. so is this fuego bigger than Royal Legend. Kindly respond. I have to choose between promax and fuego ct 100xs. Here in India
I tune reels and fish at the same time. If you really want to compare which company is best then you have to compare the flagship reels each company produces. Daiwa is #1 and Daiwa reels made in Japan are the best. Tight tolerance, no handle play, Gears and bearings are stronger, and don't wear out as fast like shimano and other brands. Air break is the best breaking in the business because it is easy to use and adjust.
Since this is all subjective my 2 cents. Been fishing for 50 years and have always leaned toward Shimano in baitcaster and spinning. The Curado has been rock solid for a long long time.
I had the exact same thing happened with a Lewis that I own. After about 15 trips out, it started making that noise and then it eventually stop working. I know that you didn't mention this brand, but I used to swear by Penn, because that was always my grandfather's favorite real. But after two of them breaking on me , I've gotten away from them completely. I generally stick with Abu Garcia now, because I've never had an issue with them. Also I really like there Revo lineup, some of the best reels I've ever used.
After trail and error with many reel companies, I am still trying to choose between shimano and Lew's. They both make fantastic reels, but they do both get a bit pricy.
As a reel tester and all around fishing freak.. I have tryed 1,000's of reels. And to be honest i always end up going back to shimano.. But i go like this Shimano #1 Daiwa #2 Lews #3 Abu #4 Quantum #5 Okuma #6
oh i love using them all.. I do feel the cheaper reels are getting better in the last few years.. pretty cool tho because the average angler doesnt need a 200+ dollar reel.. i have gone a hole summer using a black max 2 and a Daiwa legalis 2500 with no issues
Shimano baby tried abu for couple years on gen 1 stx could stand up too almost every day fishing! have had Currado's to the Cores all like brand new after 5 years!
Shimano hands down. I have never used a lower end Shimano low profile per se, but I have used many of their other reels throughout the years, Calcutta B, Calcutta D, Conquest, Aldebaran, etc. The tactility of those reels are second to none. I like Daiwa to an extent, there is something to be said about the ease of use with the Mag-Z braking system. I have a Tatula Type-R and there isn't much wrong with the reel other than the plasticky thumb bar which feels flimsy and cheap as compared to some of the composite materials that Shimano uses.
I agree with Ray once you oil it they are smooth. Now their newer stuff isn't as smooth as the last generation models. You can beat the Lew's tournament pro. A reel you need to check out is 13 fishing concept C that could one of the best on the market. I don't know if you feel this way about the Abu, but I feel you have to go higher end to get anything good out of them. Like the premier or the mgx. I miss the old school Shimano. The old green curado or the old white chronarch those were the best reels. The Daiwa is a solid reel the problem I found is, it can still be a little bulky while fishing,
wouldja look at it.....just look at it... Ever been on the receiving end of a air horn on the water....lmao Opening day trout a buddy of mine use to do it all friggin day I always wonder what's up with their style of fishing...do they were life vests when they do the dishes??? Alway donning the fancy floatation anywhere water is present :)
I bought a cheaper Abu Garcia and it was total garbage. My higher end one is good though. I think theres a huge difference in the quality within the price range. Anything under 100 is really just throwing your money away imo.
DoYo in Korea makes most reels (Lews, Abu, etc.) look inside; if it says made in Korea it’s probably a DoYo. Manufacturing cost roughly $20-50 before we pay $100-200.
I also bought a lews. it was by far,the best, smoothest, casting reel I had ever bought. but after a few trips to the river, it became less and less smooth and finally, I had to go back to using my ol 40 dollar Wal-Mart combo reel to finish out the day. I will never pay 100 dollar or more for any reel again. I think with reels, it's more about bragging rights than dependability. HEY LOOK EVERYONE, I CAN AFFORD A 150-200 DOLLAR REEL. if your like me and just want to fish, head to Wal-Mart and get a nice combo and go fishing.
So this is my list, for bass fishing I use lews rods and either 13 fishing reels or Daiwa reels Daiwa is nicer I just also like 13 fishing, larger fish or even sharks I go with ugly stick rods and Penn reels
My favorite is Lew's tournament pro LFS cast far great speed and durable. Take the side cover off the brake side put a drop of oil on a Q- tip go around the race inside the cover once problem solved
Tyler Brinks it's on the I think it's blue insert page. I just wipe off and add a drop of their oil on the side plate before each trip or every other on my Tournament Pro G and it's like casting a brand new reel each time. Been wanting to try the Tatula. Daiwa has come a long way. I was always a Shimano guy but their products were so up and down over the years. The old Lew's BB1 actually made with Shimano was my first reel in the early 80's.
Really can't go wrong with any of them. Really liked the Tatula and want to try a higher end. My favorite reel right now is the Metanium MGL but thats on another level
Hey tyler I'm a new subscriber and I just got my first shimano curado 70 and I had a tough time choosing between that or a 13 fishing concept a I noticed you didn't have that in the line up but for me the weight, drag, and gear ratio opinions are pretty hard to compete with. what's your opinion on 13 fishings reels?
fishin'with matt hey Matt, thanks for the sub. Honestly never used their stuff but keep hearing good things. I will try to include them and Okuma in a future video.
Tyler Brinks will you being adding in the next video the okuma tcs heilos or the komodo? also since most of these are around the 175 to 200 dollar range can you also incrude the quantum smoke or smoke HD as well
I forgot to add that I've been using the inception and it's a awesome reel I've been beating the hell out of it frog fishing this summer and it's held up great so that's what made me want to look into the concept a. have you noticed anything about the curado you don't much care for?
fishin'with matt honestly haven't fished the 70 enough to find anything bad. Maybe the small line capacity but that is a given. The reg Curado I has been solid for two years though.
Yeah man I got a 71hg and took it out today for the first time and it's was awesome I see why so many people love shimano. so now it's a debate wether I get the curado I next or the concept a. how does the 200i fit in ur hand compared to the 70?
My number one is daiwa because they are far ahead of all the other manufacturers with their new technologies to cast further. They also choose the best material for the purpose of what they made a reel for. My second place goes to shimano because they make good and durable reels. And abu garcia is shit and i hate the fact that they make up slogans like abu for life, i mean there's no way that even the top models of the abu line-up is going to last a life time and i had to find it out the hard way by owning a abu revo toro nacl 61 and a revo mgx and they do not even come close to stuff that daiwa makes. And fiy: i only buy the top of the line models that suit my method of fishing.
I dont think you know what you are talking about, or you might just be a little kid, abu garcia is clearly at the top when it comes to reels, regardless of what you use you have to admit their reels are amazing
That is exactly why you DO NOT BUY an Abu Garcia or a Lews....they're just bad they don't last more then 5 trips... see guys I'm not lying even his were going bad. Buy a reel without an expiration date....
mikhel bunge I’ve been using Lews for 4 years now. I’ve never had a problem with any of them. They hold up on all my trips and I fish 2 sometimes 3 days a week and all my Lews are just fine. You won’t break or have a problem with a Lews unless you just want to
Daiwa and shimano are the only "real" quality reels made as long as their made in Japan which is the upper tier one's. I have 26 team daiwa X and S's that were $249 in the early 90's until they were replaced by the steez. They all still run perfect and I fish more than I sleep. I clean them maybe yearly and never oil them in between. Japan made shimano's are the same way. I just don't like the inside plastic brake tension adjustment. As many fishing partners that I've had over the years I've seen all the other "junk" reels made. Especially abu garcia. Probably the most overpriced China junk made. Just look at what a 20 year old almost new team daiwa x or shimano reel is selling for on ebay. There's a reason for that. I bought one tatula type R to try and it is a good reel for the money "not made in Japan" but it is not in the same league as the older X or the steez therefore it see's no boat time. Still a good reel though.
This is barely a question in my book. Whenever you hear guys tout lews, it’s always qualified with “for the money”. Abu and Daiwa both make some good stuff but Shimano is the king of the hill...that’s just the reality of the situation. It’s not even a matter of opinion. It’s just pure stats... Guys will have curados running like new after a decade. The casitas performs like a reel costing three times as much...it might be the greatest $100 reel ever made. The caenan is an unimpeachable entry level reel. The chronarch and met are both legends. And all of the above will work reliably for YEARS if cared for properly...most will work reliably even when neglected. Even if they aren’t the best looking reels, they’re solid, smoother than most and durable. 13 Fishing is a hot date but Shimano is a happy marriage. I know a lot of guys out there want to see them knocked down a peg for some reason (no idea why...maybe people like rooting for the underdog?) but it just is what it is.
Shishamo reel from china...works great for the price 12 ballbearing 1 year warranty Plus came with soft cover vynil Only 25bucks I got 2 from 6 months ago And,,,,,,,,im never will fall in brands again
Daiwa invented low profile, anti reverse system, magnetic brakes and then the t - wing. I've bought the best on the market as they came out for over 30 years. Daiwa and shimano are the only "real" quality reels made as long as there made in Japan which is the upper tier one's. I've got 26 team daiwa X and S's that were $249 in the early 90's that were replaced by the steez that I still use and all work perfect to this day and I fish more than I sleep for as long.

On the lews take the side plate off and lightly oil the brake wing as in the instructions and noise will go away

isaiah wimbley my bb1 pro does the same thing, idk if it's the brakes or the bearings. Just ordered some boccas also

Lol that's a lie 100% no way Dunking it I water and zero maintenance that reel would not "run the same as out of the box"
@@Jacob-pt4zgit's true! I've done it with a couple of my Lew's!!! Well I do oil them
I own Lews, Daiwa, and Shimano, and I love all of them. Just bought a Curado DC, absolutely love it!

Thats the noise at 4:41 my Tatula Type R makes when I cast. I kind of like it lol
Btw, BB1 and the MB from lews are are absolutely amazing reels. The button has started sticking on my BB1 but i have put that reel through hell and back.
Same here bro. Do u know how to fix it ?
I have no clue and im scared to take it apart and not be able to get it back together right or something lol
Gordy McGlynn don't be scared to take your reels apart i'm 14 and have been taking my shimano all the way apart for 2 year just watch a tackle junky video and line up the parts in the order you took them apart and you'll be fine

What do u think about the STX I am only 13, do you think it would be a good flippen and frogging reel and will it hold up for a few years.
Eli D BASSIN the STX is solid and good value. Might also check out Shimano Citica in that same price range.
After trail and error with many reel companies, I am still trying to choose between shimano and Lew's. They both make fantastic reels, but they do both get a bit pricy.
Shimano, shimano, andddd shimano
1-Megabass
2-Daiwa

oh i love using them all.. I do feel the cheaper reels are getting better in the last few years.. pretty cool tho because the average angler doesnt need a 200+ dollar reel.. i have gone a hole summer using a black max 2 and a Daiwa legalis 2500 with no issues
No it’s Shimano, Daiwa, abu then it doesn’t matter after that because all the rest are basically the same reels.
What about 13fishing???!
Teng Lor Not a fan of it. I used their stuff for a little bit and they are overhyped. Not what people say they are least to me
So how did your Lew's work after the oiling?
Haven't fished it since
I agree with Ray once you oil it they are smooth. The Daiwa is a solid reel the problem I found is, it can still be a little bulky while fishing,
daiwa and shimano have their own factories...all others are made by doyo or banax. look it up on the tackle tour forum.
fancy running into you hear!! LMAO
I'm waiting to hear about what his favorite hat is :)
hey , if it's a reel vid i've seen it lol...unless it's all Japanese and even on those I do like edbassmaster & " "just look at it" ROFL.
wouldja look at it.....just look at it...
Ever been on the receiving end of a air horn on the water....lmao
Opening day trout a buddy of mine use to do it all friggin day
I always wonder what's up with their style of fishing...do they were life vests when they do the dishes??? Alway donning the fancy floatation anywhere water is present :)
they sleep with one eye open , a tsunami ain't no joke !!!!!!!!!!
I bought a cheaper Abu Garcia and it was total garbage. My higher end one is good though. I think theres a huge difference in the quality within the price range. Anything under 100 is really just throwing your money away imo.
BaadMotorFinger that’s true with any $100 and under reel.
DoYo in Korea makes most reels (Lews, Abu, etc.) look inside; if it says made in Korea it’s probably a DoYo. Manufacturing cost roughly $20-50 before we pay $100-200.
I’m a shimano guy at heart. They make the best reels. They are super smooth. Curado dc is my shit! But I also love my daiwa lexa 300.
Do you recommend a shimano metanium mg dc7
josue avellaneda don't have any experience with any DC reels
Lew's reel are number one....I can garantee it!!!!!
Hahaha you can guarantee it, huh? That’s a mighty bold claim...
The best one is the one that has a service center closest to you and offers the best customer service.
Daiwa is the Best. Magnetic oil, TWS, Zaion.
Poor coating
So this is my list, for bass fishing I use lews rods and either 13 fishing reels or Daiwa reels Daiwa is nicer I just also like 13 fishing, larger fish or even sharks I go with ugly stick rods and Penn reels
My favorite is Lew's tournament pro LFS cast far great speed and durable. Take the side cover off the brake side put a drop of oil on a Q- tip go around the race inside the cover once problem solved
Shimano for built quality, daiwa for innovations, lews for good performance and abu...kinda in the bottom on that 1.
Can't really go wrong with Shimano especially now that their lower end reels come with some big features that the higher end models have.
For the Lew's they recommend oiling it before each use.
Good to know! Guess I missed that part
Lews hands down! Shimano would be 2nd. Never tried Daiwa and I’m not a fan of Abu. I’ve never used a Lews reel I didn’t like so Lews for me
Love Shimano and Lew's
I like lews and abu shimano is just too expensive
Terrible Person what about there castitas, caius, caenan, etc. ?
Does anybody have an opinion on the shimano curado vs the shimano citica??
Both solid reels and pretty similar. As you would think, the Curado being more expensive will be a little better. Can't go wrong with either.
Tyler Brinks well yeah but what's the difference between the citica and curado? I can't figure it out
FIshing 4LYFE the difference is curado has sealed bearings and the citica does not
FIshing 4LYFE I personally have both with a blindfold on I can't tell the difference
Eli D BASSIN if you had to pick one (considering price) which one? I'm stuck!
Never had an issue with my Abu Revo's or Ambassadeur's.
Add some oil on the spool where the breaks make contact
To silent the squeal
13 all the way... Great Vid - Just subbed.
Concept a is on point
put a little bit of oil that the reel comes with on the brakes and race way.
Try a better microphone or get closer to the one u use. have to turn dell laptop to the max just to hear you. thanks
Thanks for watching. Check my newer vids. Have all different gear now.
Nice video good choice
where's okuma in this debate
Moviestops coming soon! just got a Helios
Daiwa's reels are best
They're pretty good!
Daiwa #1
Great video btw
That lews squeal means it’s broken in
My number one is daiwa because they are far ahead of all the other manufacturers with their new technologies to cast further.
Shimano,Daiwa
alot if the lews reels have that "squeel" it is fine there us nothing wrong with it my tournament pro does that to your reel 100% good
Why is Abu even in the conversation?
Their popularity. Thanks for watching!
I dont think you know what you are talking about, or you might just be a little kid, abu garcia is clearly at the top when it comes to reels, regardless of what you use you have to admit their reels are amazing
Clinton Bush I’d bet it’s in the top 10% easily.
Jimmy comment makes no sense... there I no "top 10%" of market share...
Kast king?
I have fished all brands and most are good quality, but Shimano is the best overall. Daiwa is a close second. Lews and Abu are just doyo junk.
All lews do that it's normal from what I have heard.... I'm a big abu guy I have used most brand and abu is the easiest and strongest
You won’t break or have a problem with a Lews unless you just want to
Abu hands down. You get more for your dollar.
Daiwa
That lews makes the same noise shimanos make.
I think shakespeare makes a pretty good one… 😂
shimano
Shimano>Daiwa>Abugarcia>Lews
I know a lot of guys out there want to see them knocked down a peg for some reason (no idea why...maybe people like rooting for the underdog?) but it just is what it is.
abu garcia And LEW's all same ..
casue OEM product
made in korea
haha:D
Lexa > all competitors.
Shishamo reel from china...works great for the price 12 ballbearing

Plus came with soft cover vynil
Only 25bucks
I got 2 from 6 months ago
And,,,,,,,,im never will fall in brands again
Junk!!!
Shimano Lews Abu Daiwa
Abu for life
Abu Garcia For life !!
Diawas ass
Shimano invents and everybody else copies.
Daiwa 'TWS' ?? Not on Shims...
They didn't invent the low profile reel either, still haven't figured it out. Lol
No daiwa invents and shimano stays behind..
