I have used a lightly brewed herb tea - such as oatstraw, mint stems. Brewed 15 -30 sec. No more. For me it has alleviated the drying out of nasal tissue. Also I have trained my tongue to stay rolled back while I go to sleep. No need for chin strap.

Honestly, I’m just glad to find a CPAP channel where the presenter isn’t a speed-talker.
All the others I’ve checked out seem like the speaker gets paid in words per minute! 😂
Chris speaks slowly enough for my brain to absorb!

Started using a CPAP 23 years ago. I gained a lot of weight and it was like the CPAP didn’t even work anymore. I have lost 25 Kg (~ 53 lbs) and now weigh about 175 lbs. I get a great nights sleep with my CPAP or even a decent nap sometimes without the CPAP. Beware of the impact of being overweight.

I'm wondering if the A-Fib I developed during surgery 15 yrs ago and stayed with me was due to unknowingly at the time having sleep apnea. A year ago, my Cardiologist suggested a sleep study. I use a BiPAP machine now with best ever results. Hang in there if you're just starting with a machines. Make use of the resources you have to help you over the hump. It takes the right mask for you and the right machine pressures for you and the right machine along with an amount of personal determination to benefit the therapeutic result.

A smaller pressure range is way better for me! Start off with a lower pressure so you can get used to CPAP. I had to change my own pressure because over 13 wakes me up. I also increased the starting pressure as I got used to it. Now I start at 9 with a max of 12 and it's the perfect range for me.

I'm always tired, even when I use my CPAP full-time. I get so frustrated that I stop using it, but there was this one time when I woke up and felt amazing and no longer tired. It lasted a few days for me to feel this way, but then I went back to my old being tired all the time. I have tried to mimic what I did but have no luck. I talked to my doctor many times and have made changes to see if it would help, but nothing helped. Being tired always makes me depressed, and I don't like it.

When I first started using CPCP many, many years ago, my biggest problem was, because of lots of headaches, I could not tighten my mask enough to prevent leakage and this led to my eyes drying out at night. I tried many different ways to protect my eyes from the leaking air. None worked! I don't remember if I talked to my doctor at that time. On my own I did research and learned about nasal pillows & picked out & bought my own headgear out of pocket. Nasal pillows are very comfortable for me.
Because I toss & turn all night (have for most of my life) I wanted headgear where the hose was in back instead of front. For many years I enjoyed using the Breeze headgear. I loved it & except for frequent breakage, I had no problems with it. Despite all my tossing it always stayed on!
After Breeze was discontinued I have never had any brand of headgear that has worked as well. I Miss my Breeze headgear!
Today, at 75, my biggest problem is that the strap that goes behind my head keeps ridding up and every time I wake, I have to pull the strap back down into position. Also, the side straps always feel like they are cutting across the edge of my eyes. Very irritating! I have bought the covers for the straps, but it only helps a little. I also have to build padding for the part that goes under my nose, other wise it hurts.
I Never had any of these problem with Breeze! I wish they'd bring Breeze back! It was perfect!
I am currently using Opus 360 Nasal Pillow Mask.
I have tried both ResMed and Dreamwear but neither is as comfortable as Opus.
I have noticed that in many reports people who started using CPAP claim to start having more energy. That has never happened for me. I just stayed tired all the time, even when I was younger. CPAP just keeps me from feeling strangled.
I currently have a BIPAP machine. It's ok, but there are times the machine and I don't sync and I end up exhaling while the machine is in inhale mode. Thankfully this doesn't happen often!
Sure wish they'd come up with something that works better & was comfortable!
    Janet

Why dont you use a nasal mask. I used to wear a face mask because I was diagnosed as a mouth breather. Through a series of discoveries over time, 15 years to be exact, I now use a nasal mask.
When I was using my full face mask I got 16 ahis per hour. I then taped my mouth and my ahis reduced to 6 or 7 an hour.
I then went the whole hog and used a nasal mask, still taping my mouth, and my ahis went to 0.5 to 1.5.
The tape I use is a 3M product, with the name Nexcare and Transpore. It costs about one pound or 1.3 dollars for 10 meters. Lasts for 70 to 80 sleeps. Make sure to cover the corners of your mouth.
I started the taping of my mouth because of some guy on youtube pushing breathing through your nose. Your nose filters and heats your oxygen intake. Look it up. I forget the actual header but put breathing through your nose in youtube and I am sure you will find it.
When you use nasal mask you will never go back to full face. When I started using it I would wake up and think oh no I forgot to put my mask on, only to find it sitting under my nose doing what it should be doing. Completely less intrusive. I am 72

I have been using Cpap for about 15 years. It was definitely a learning experience in the beginning. I went back and tried to get my mask changed but they said I had the right one. The one I use is over my nose. Now let’s fast forward. My new machine with heated hose and an APP so I can track my sleep and apnea is perfect. My advise is to adjust your mask sometimes if it’s leaking, clean it periodically and replace it every couple of years. I have moments but they are very seldom when I feel it isn’t working. I never sleep without it.

Funny I have moments where I think it is working but really it just chokes me out every night. I have had sleep studies, settings checked and rechecked only to have the same results I had when I didn’t use one. If I get the same results with or without this machine I would prefer to sleep without a useless device strapped to my face that could cause new health problems.

At 77, I wake up once or twice to urinate however, I now keep a hospital type urinal container by the bed and go without turning off the CPAP or turning on a light which had increased my sleep time noticeably. Having sinus issues, I now use Afrin as I go to bed each evening and my dry mouth issues have disappeared. I do not use it at all during the day to keep it from becoming a habit or causing issues. I now change masks every three months and have mostly eliminated leakes, however the strap will stretch a bit over time so it has to be snugged u[ a bit every so often. My biggest problem in the beginning cause me to have heart issues because I turn a lot during the night and my hose was wrapping around my neck so I wouldn't use it at all. Once I got AFIB, I started using it religiously and soon got past the issues. I have since had an ablation, and a year or so later, a floor pacemaker.

I hope you don't mind my comment about Afrin. >>My experience .....Do not use , your sinus will reverse and you will find it getting worse after a spray. I use the cheapest sinus pills. Cheap because it will have the least chems. or use saline solution, and get a good air purifier for your room. I have narrowed my urination (was 6Xs/night) was due to salad and lisinopril. Salad is a diaretic, who knew! My biggest GAME CHANGER is an overhead hook for the tubing. If you have a friend who has "Acid reflux". It is probably S/Apnea, and you just saved their life!

I eliminated a lot of leaking by washing my face each night before putting on my mask to ensure the moisturizer I use daily is gone. I use Cetaphil and avoid using soaps with moisturizers when cleaning my face. It's taken all of a month to become adjusted to my BiPAP, and I came pretty close to quitting because I lost so much sleep. F&P's Vitera, a full-face, silicone-lined hard plastic mask (Seal, as F&P terms it) works best for me and helps keep my mouth closed. Best to wash the seal in moderately warm water to keep the silicone resilient. The seal leaks profusely when a replacement is needed.

Same here. At 68 my face can still be a bit oily which will allow the full face mask to leak everytime. Every night I must wash my face shortly before bed and also wash off the mask with soft soap and warm water. It will still leak if I go on my back but right or left side I'm fine. Mask seal must be replaced by 45 days or it will leak which they send a new one every 30 days. Also I cut a 3/4 X 3" fabric band-aid to fit on the bridge of my nose which helps the mask to seal better. Used CPAP for 10+ years. Good video.

I started using the CPAP recently. Change from nasal pillow to a mask that sits under my nose. Not full mask. I can’t sleep through the night since I started the CPAP. I am having headaches during the day. I feel more tired than before. I will see a sleep specialist next month. Just praying I can get a good night sleep soon. I am not feeling well at all. My question is: If I loose weight would this issue will go away? I am this year 50 years old. I never got this problem before. I know I am overweight now. I just hope I don’t need to live wearing a mask to sleep for the rest of my life. Working towards loosing the weight.

I'm in my early 60's and I usually wake up at 3 am every night. I do go back to sleep
though. Started CPAP (Airsense 10) about three weeks ago and I use a full face mask. I actually look forward to sleeping each night. The adjustment has been very minimal
because I formerly used a dental device that moved my jaw forward along with a back
pack device that prevented me from rolling over on my back where my worst apnea
occurred. Now I can sleep on my back if wanted, but I end up sleeping on my right side
each night. So far so good. Looking at my results each day, I have less than 2 episodes
per hour on average, which sounds pretty good to me. I would recommend CPAP for
    anyone with sleep apnea.

If you are going for a sleep lab study, take Your Own Pillow! I have had 4 done. After the first one, I took my own every time! It can be difficult to get used to being all wired up, a different bed & this mask on your face, to have to deal with a different pillow also. Most nasal makes will leak if you sleep on your back. Your face relaxes & it leaks. My best sleeping on my sides!
Been dealing with this since the late 1990's. Wouldn't sleep without it!!! A real Blessing!!

Your mask is too tight. You have to leave enough room for the pillow to expand and create a seal. Tightening too much stops that happening and creates leaks.

Hi from Australia, my issue is occasionally mask leaks, I then have to adjust the mask, also even though I have a full face mask I sometimes get dry mouth. I am not to keen on the heating and humidifier, so I have turned both down to 1 to see if that works. I have been using my machine for 5 years my pressure fluctuates around 9.5 to 11.5, at the moment it's set on 10, it's been set on 10 for a few weeks now, prior to that it was sitting on 11. I have a Phillip's dream station. I would love feed back from others, thanks heaps.

My dry mouth is more complex. I use a full face, but long ago I had a mouth guard that had a tongue bar on it. I have a bad habit of sucking on my tongue at night as a part of clenching. This is maintained like this for some time, and it pulls water out of the membranes and also can swell the tongue papillae. I broke my guard a long time ago. I may have to get another one.

Whipped out the TH-cam and found some tips and tricks like this and my solution is simple, the bleep system, V-Com and mouth tape. I've been scoring 98-99 on the app and my sleep score has been 92-96 on the pillow app. I feel like a new person. I've pre-ordered the new Bleep magnet system, I can't wait! I also have used a dental appliance, I feel more rested with that in and it says I still have moderate sleep apnea even with it. So they said I should go with cpap instead, I tolerate the mask pretty well but I guess its the sleeping position I love sleeping on my stomach and you can't do that with the cpap mask so guess im stuck.

An event is an apnea, or hypoapnea.
Events per night is total of these through the night.
If you slept say 8 hours, you want total to be no higher than 40.
Also look at AHI. That’s the number on average per hour. It should not be higher than 5.

was ordered to use the air machine a few yrs ago, due to being a Comm Driver,,, and CrazyCalif was doing a SlapDown of all Truckers, Bus Drivers, even Limo/Taxi/Tour Vans or Tour Bus Drivers,,, including Ambulance/FireTruck Drivers,,, anyone holding a Commercial License, was ordered to take a SleepTest and most went onto the CPAP/air machines as a result,,, including me, which i hate--- dont like the DryMouth and DryThroat i get almost every nite/morning; dont like the feel/pressure/confinement on the face; and hate air rushing up the nose, plus the hose getting in the way as i roll from side-to-side,,, however, was told my oxygen level was not good, kept on cycle of stopping breathing at least once every min, so my case was SEVERE and NECESSARY, esp if i wanted to keep my Driver License and keep my job
--- i use a NoseCone, and i keep my mouth closed all nite (have been breathing only in-out of my nose since childhood) -- my mouth never opens in the nite, unless my nasal passages are clogged, due to cold/flu/allergies

I've been using a cpap for more than 20 years to control my central sleep apnea (an inherited problem) which is in the top severity range. As a result my pressure ramps up fairly high during the night. For the past 10 yrs I have noticed that if I cough hard and/or long I then have a sneezing fit because some of what I'm coughing up goes into my sinuses. While this may partly be an age thing (65) I also think its because the constant high pressure no longer allows sufficient sinus closure when I cough (just a theory). I'm not sure how to alleviate this problem so I just live with it but it may be a problem for others as well so I'm mentioning it here. Maybe you can offer a solution?

Are you waking up fully, or is it just the ring saying so?
In a normal night, one would go through 4-5 sleep cycles with near awakenings for each.
      Potential solutions
1 better mask (see new live video titled “new technology” pic of astronaut.
