    Tip: drying the lanolin lube with hair fan for a minute will really help with smoother sizing. I had a case stuck once while sizing wet brass, lesson learned. Tip #2: While the cases are lubed, you might want to add neck expander after a trim. Tip #3: Wet tumbling brass after will knock off sharp edges so you don't really need to chamfer and debur. Other suggestions, if you're swagging at the same time your trim length will very because some cases will require more force to swage than others and will tilt the toolhead to affect the trim length. More suggestions, with 300 blackout conversion I found I needed to replace the vacuum hose with a smooth one (I used clear tube from Home Depot) otherwise the chips end up clogging the hose and it's PITA to clear that hose. A friend of mine had exact same problem, also don't forget you need short toolhead for 300 blackout and I found it's also better suited for 223 brass and it's also required for 7.62x39 brass if you ever reload that.

    Dillion will have the ultimate trimmer once it can trim, deburr, and chamfer in one pull of a loading press handle

      Just use Lyman M Die or any other die that slighly expands case mounth. Use it instead of expander button in sizing die. So preprocessing toolhead is - universal decapping die, trim/sizing die, expanding mandrel die.
      Give cases nice wet tumbling they deserve which further cleans the burrs and you are good.

    • @AZIROC
      @AZIROC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. They come out with that on an rt1500 and they would own the market for trimmers.

    • @ZhuJo99
      @ZhuJo99 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AZIROC It's probably not required and I have found out that expanding mandrel works much, much better than chamfering which might scratch the bullet anyway.
      Dillon is a company that it's main specialization is to make equipment for making big volume of OK quality ammo quickly. And they do it for years with great quality. In comparison, their competitors are making everything but are usually OK in one part, but are lacking in other, especially in big volume equipment.
      It's like asking a CAT to make precision oriented machinery with tight tolerations.

    • @DorkAhoy
      @DorkAhoy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ZhuJo99 Remember that the trimming operation is going to leave two (2) burrs: One on inside and outside of the case mouth. Isn't using an expander mandrel going to roll the burr on the inside of the neck down into the neck itself? Chamfering would at least give you.a much smaller burr for the bullet itself to roll into the case neck. Also, as I see it, this setup doesn't do anything about the burr on the outside of the case mouth. I cant see dropping this kind of cash on a setup like this unless it can really do *all* of the case prep, including deburring and chamfering.

    • @ZhuJo99
      @ZhuJo99 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DorkAhoy it's not useless, as it works in all reloading shops and sport shooters out there. Wet tumbling will remove all the burrs.
      Or do you think 3gunners and reloading shops do case prep manually, each case by hand? Come on.
      Like this:

    I use it on the 650XL. Ive run it for 223, 308, and cutting 223 into 300BO. I have had some issues with the cutdown 223 into 300BO making it past the check gauge. I found it to be all in neck thickness which requires it to be neck turned on something like 21st Century, Hday, RCBS, etc motor driven tools. I love the trimmer. It can go thru a 223 in 2 seconds turning it into a 300BO case. I resize my semi auto ammo small anyways and have never had an issue feeding brass cut on this trimmer. Ive made over 1k rounds with it and none of em had an issue feeding. Small base die not needed.

    Love the RT-1500 for trimming! I've already done 300BLK conversion from 556 brass and was very impressed with the speed of the cut. Definitely clogs up the vacuum tube with brass cuttings though so I'd be sure to mention a fix for that. It seems many previous posts have already come up with great ideas to keep that from happening. I just got my 6.5CM trim die in and will be using it soon as it's just about time to trim the brass.

    Using a Lee Quick Trim Deluxe die with a hand drill attached is a great way to trim, chamfer and debur on a progressive press in a similar manner. It certainly DOESN‘T have the same trimming power the Dillon has - so for rifle brass I recommend to do the initial trim with another tool - but in the process or re-sizing previously trimmed brass, this is a great solution to touch up the necks. It can certainly trim a few thou off the neck while also greatly improving the case mouth profile.

    Great video! I use my RT-1500 with an RCBS case lube die (model# 87551 for 223 Remington & 5.56 brass), and a Hornady match grade neck sizing die. All mounted in my Hornady AP progressive press. In my set up the lube die is in station one on the press. The neck sizing die is in station two. I skipped station three and mounted the trimmer in station four due to its size. On the Hornady press, a special washer is needed between the press and the Lock-N-Load quick change bushing to keep the trimmer torque from unlocking the bushing from the press. Hornady provided this special washer for free upon request. Using the lube die on the press eliminates the need to lubricate the cases separately, and it keeps lubricant out of my case feeding equipment. It makes quick work of sizing cases. I however would not recommend using the Hornady progressive press to swage military brass such as Lake City. I strongly recommend using a solid single stage press such as the Hornady Iron Press for that hard work. Cheers.

    I've worn out two of these motors. Dillon replaced the first but not the second. I've sized/trimmed over 100,000 pieces at least since my first RT1200 back in the 90's. Their sizing dies can set back shoulders too far if you don't use a gauge (or chamber) to set them resulting in headspace issues. They may have corrected this by now I hope. They also size the neck down too far for most brass resulting in overworking the brass. You still have to inside/outside deburr. Other than that the tool has been a great timesaver through the years but since the last motor burned out I'm DONE. Switched to the Lee deluxe rapid trim system. Just got it and hope it works for bulk brass prep.

    You provide a lot of good information to reloaders. One issue, and perhaps the most perplexing is choosing a powder. There are so many factors to consider in selecting a powder it would be nice to have a chart that rates/ranks the powders based on these many criteria. Here is a list of things to consider when it comes to powders: 1.burn rate best suited for bullet weight, 2. performance, ie velocity., 3. Accuracy/Consistency which includes low SD and good ES numbers, 4. Temperature sensitivity, 5. Metering ease ie. extruded, spherical, ball 6. Cleanliness is it clean burning or dirty, 6. Easy on barrel ie. non-corrosive, 7. Easy on cases for longer case life, 8. Size of load where smaller sized necessary loads equals more loads per pound, 9. Usability over a wider range of bullet sizes or calibers, 10. Cost per pound, 11. Availabilty. There may be more factors to consider than listed here but it would be nice to see a chart where these factors were evaluated for each powder (even just for the 223 as a base point due to its populariity). With your existing knowledge and experiences it shouldn't be too hard for you to come up with such a chart. It would of great value to reloaders trying to decide on powder(s).

    Need a little input....Have new RL1100, setting up for 223, so here's my thinking --->Pin clean brass>>>lanolin lube brass>>muck up brass collator and drop tube??>>Size and trim with RT1500 with lube still on brass>>resize neck and decap>>swage primer pocket which also flares neck>>>>Pin clean again to clean out primer pocket and shine brass up......Ready for reloading now... Should I buy another top head to mount RT1500 and proper dies in for case prepping. Then have another head for the loading operation with powder drop and seating dies? And I really don't like the idea of mucking up my collator with sizing lube then cleaning it and the dog hair out to start the reloading process. Did I miss something here you dillion guys?? I'm trying to mass produce....

    • @DimaProk
      @DimaProk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and I always wondered why Dillon didn't do that, it's so simple to implement and unlike Giraud where you hold the case with finders and there is some play and you end up with one side chamfered more than other in here that would neve be an issue as the case is steady rock solid while being sized. I realized after some time you would need a different adjustment for every different cartridge and dillon just decide to go universal but if they made shafts that could be screwed on this would be a great market for them to offer it, I am sure people would buy that in a heartbeat.

    I wish you hadn’t skipped over the shop vac connection. The folks at Dillon are genius, and I don’t quite understand how they didn’t think this through. The manifold is the same size as the hose on every shop vac I tried buying. Only option is to modify the hose to fit around it, but then it makes the hose unusable for anything else. I definitely would have really like to see what you used to connect.

    these trimers do a lot of work saving so much time. YOU need to do the set up and test to find YOUR setting when initially setting up for YOUR needs. each use is up to YOU to figure out how YOU use product. this product works very well, but YOU need to set it up for what YOU intend it to do. it's not rocket science. brass dimensions are provided in reload guide books. they produce correct dimensions as do products sold to mass populations. learn to use product as they are intended, or do the leg work to find out what YOUR needs are and how YOU want to use them.

    • @mandasham
      @mandasham 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Seth - I reload 338 Lap Mag and honestly for that round I always use a single stage. I use my progressive for .223, 9mm, .308 for AR-10, but for the 338 big boy I go single. More control over each step of the process. Gavin has a great single stage comparison video and if I remember, one of the overall best was the RCBS Summit. I use a RCBS rock chucker and it works good, but that Summit really looks nice for a single stage. I also highly recommend that you get a good scale, calipers, case tumbler (I use steel media) and a media separator - that will save you time and frustration getting your cleaning media out of the brass. One thing though Seth - if you have not reloaded before - don't start with a .338 Lapua Magnum. You will make mistakes, and when you do, it is better to have a smaller round be bad than the big ones. Start you reloading education with a smaller round that you shoot. My opinion - hope it helps.

    Too bad the Dillon stuff is so tall. My 140 year old cellar has slightly less than 6 foot ceilings. To put any Dillon gear with a case feeder or bullet feeder on it would require a bench about as high as a coffee table. As it is now I barely have enough headroom to run a case feeder on my Loadmaster and Pro 1000 Lee presses.
    I use the Pro 1000 as a 5.56 case prep machine. I decap, and size on it. I trim, swage, and prime (once fired brass) off press so it takes time. I could possibly put a Dillon trimmer on the Lee but Mike Dillon would probably roll over in his grave. I prep 1000+ once fired cases a year and replace worn out brass from that stock as needed. Different brands of brass wear out at different intervals. I do anneal my brass every 4th reload but splits and primer pocket failures do occur.

    I wouldn't have the patience to set this up I would get frustrated and brake something probably.

    Cool, but unfortunately look rather cost prohibitive
