Thank you for the shout out, it's greatly appreciated. We do our best to try to bring people the classic mega man experience we all know and love with some tweaks for things broken or under-powered. Being a maker style game which is continuously updating things always can happen and we do try to resolve them in a timely manner. There are plenty of Mega Man fan games out there also, so take some time to explore them and have fun with the blue bomber!

I mean, if i made a game and people made fangames from it, i would honestly hate it, if the creator is fine with it, it's fine, but i don't like the concept of you grabbing a creation you don't own and modifying without the creator's permission

@@lopeo2324 honestly, back in the early 2010s, there used to be so many megaman fans that made games because capcom wouldn't do it themselves. Yeah, there's probably something to not like out of this scenario, but megaman, at least, wasn't getting new content; the fans watched their favorite series die out and all the original creators leave Capcom. Some of those creators even tried to make a new megaman-like ip. So the fangames ended up being an excuse for the community to come together and keep this franchise alive

Fanmade games are really excellent. Gotta mention Mega Man Unlimited 1(and 2 is upcoming) and Mega Man: Rock & Roll as some of the very best ones that could do with some attention. You definitely can make some more videos on these games though. Gonna add a few more:
-Mother 3 fan translation. The most ambitious fan translated game that makes it ridiculous why some company Nintendidn't do it themselves.
-Darkwing Duck Advanced. Fixed a lot of the original's issues and added more fun things
-Ancient Magic fan translation. A game ahead of its time, but regionlocked for ages.
-TMNT Rescue Palooza. Let's just say there's a lot of playable characters once you rescue them
-Seiken Densetsu 3 fan translation. There's a reason why Trials of Mana was made, this fan translation grew the fanbase.

EARTHBOUND HALLOW'S END!! If you're an Earthbound fan who's played the game so many times you could beat it with your eyes closed, you HAVE to check out Hallow's End (especially if you also enjoy Mother 1). It can be a bit grindy but the party is a wonderfully balanced little group of three, and the dungeons and bosses will REALLY test your mettle if you think you're "good at EB" while still being totally fair if you make sure you're prepared and you remember to buff. These are great. But, if I were the developers of some of these games, the developers could have taken the IDEAS of these games and just change the title, the characters, the music, the sprites and made it their own so that they won't be dodging Nintendo, etc. Using the IDEAS and creating something new is completely legal.

Gosh I must have played Zelda Parallel Worlds 10-15 years ago, and it was one of the few overhauling hacks I played. When I was really into emulation there were a lot of hacks I didn't see much in the way of whole games made in the engine of existing NES / SNES games. It's great to see people have continued hacking roms and have progressed so far with it!

I've played a few fan games like this, but I was almost surprised not to see The Lecarde Chronicles 2 on this list, an absolutely fantastic Castlevania fan game. I've not played the first one so I can't vouch for it, but I strongly recommend checking it out.

Turns out I'm part of that sub-sub-sub niche, so a higher proportion of these were familiar to me than your normal videos. Still, a few interesting things you brought to my attention to check out!
I'm a bit surprised there was zero mention of Zelda Classic or any of the high-quality projects that have come out of it, though that's such a thing it could be a video all on its own. If you haven't heard of it, it's essentially a game design engine built on, well, initially Zelda 1, but now more like the entire 2D part of the series and then some. And there's a sizable community of people who have been making content for it for probably about a decade by now, some of which is incredibly good.

Zelda Classic is actually much older than that (I have a video of a game that can almost vote).
And I support your statement: There are many extremely good games on there.

It's unfortunate that the best Fan Games tend to be based on games by Nintendo who are also the most strict when it comes to fan games.
All the more of a reason to support these amazing devs. It also shows how great Nintendo games are for inspiring great devs.

Examples: the Super Mario World Hacks (re: Luigi’s Adventure OSE, The Second Reality Project 1 & 2 Reloaded, the New Super Mario World series by Pink Gold Peach formerly known as G. D. and BullyMario respectively, the A Super Mario Adventure trilogy, the Mario Must Die trilogy, Mario Gives Up which is another trilogy, Super Mario Omega, Super Mario 2+3: The Essence Star, Mario’s Mystery Meat because of course, A Plumber for All Seasons, the sequels to The 6th Annual Vanilla Level Design Contest, the Classic Mario World trilogy, other hacks by Crash Bandicoot, and yes, he made Mario fan games, the hacks by Gamma V, Mario’s Journey Through Time and Space, Truc Bidule, The Big Boo’s Legion which would be good for the line “Oh damn it!” being a future meme, the Sicari series, The 7 Golden Statues, the Grand Poo World trilogy, Super Mario Horizons, Super Mario Universe, other hacks by Hendog20, Super Mario in Yoshi’s Revenge, Bowser Rampages Again, other custom Kaizo hacks and future hacks I’d love to create like Hold Left to Win, sequels to Luigi’s Adventure OSE: The Lost Levels besides Luigi’s Adventure 3 OSE, etc).

You're treating romhacks as if they were illegal in this video, but they're not. They're traditionally distributed as patches you apply to the original rom, which you could, in principle, have gotten by dumping it from a game cartridge you own. What's distributed would then just be a set of edits to be made to that rom. This doesn't break copyright in any way because the modified rom is not being distributed.

Legend of Princess and ZeldaClassic are great. ZClassic has _so many_ user-developed quests with their own plot, dungeons, sprites, etc.
I always thought it was pretty awesome how people were creative enough to make Mega Man or Metroid "quests" that still kinda worked within the Zelda framework.
