  • EDIT: I have been made aware that a couple of products aren't CG friendly (so sorry - I followed bad advice). If you click through to my post you will see links to the correct products. The method itself is sound though so just check the products (specifically the conditioner and hair mask) but follow the method. Thank you x
    How to start the Curly Girl Method - beginner's guide.
    I have been asked over and over via IG if I could explain the process as I am now embracing my natural curls/ waves.
    I am no means an expert but this is what works for me.
    The first half of the video I go through products and second half I show you how I actually scrunch my hair etc to get the curls.
    If you have any questions, pop them in the comments or come message me via Instagram.

      Only amend I’d make is that you don’t wash and then use conditioner. That is literally for the first time. For every wash thereafter you wash WITH conditioner. Also, the leave-in conditioner is optional and different from the conditioner you’ve used to wash your hair. But otherwise the rest of the bullets are golden 👍🏻

    • @chumimiii533
      @chumimiii533 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lucyrobson2114 it might be that the conditioner is weighing down your hair, giving it that oily feeling. Maybe try leaving in less conditioner when it's drying?

    Thank you so much for putting the time and effort to make this video. Everything you said makes sense.
    I suffered from itchy, flaky scalp my whole life and only recently discovered the wonders of using wooden brushes, sleeping on satin pillowcases, scalp massagers and also am using herbal essences botanical range. All these things have helped my scalp and my hair looks healthier than I’ve ever seen.
    I want to try the Curly girl method but will it cause my scalp to be itchy and flaky again? Please could you give me suggestions? I’d be so grateful.

    5. after u get out of the shower - scrunching curly jelly. scrunch
    6. diffuse
    get satin bonnet to put ur hair when u sleep
    add water + leave in conditioner (tiny amount) spray to reactivate the gel. scrunch

    • @WhatKatySaidUK
      @WhatKatySaidUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hiya! Sorry I haven't replied sooner - homeschooling is frying my brain! Ok so if you are using custard you don't need cream too. I either use custard with gel or cream with gel. I am finding that cream is better than custard for my hair as I have such thick hair which adds its own weight anyway. However, it did take my hair a while to adjust in the first place and my scalp felt all sorts of itchy in the beginning but that is because we are SO used to shampoo. It will get better though I promise xxx

    Trying it for the 1st time (wish me luck haha) just done it but am I supposed to rince out the custard cos I have scrunched scrunched scrunched and my hair is still soaked and clumped in big sections x

    • @WhatKatySaidUK
      @WhatKatySaidUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don’t wash out the custard or the gel. If it is clumping that’s great! That means the curls are forming 🙌🏻. Them looking soaked is because a) they probably were still wet and b) the wet look is called a cast. You wait until for sure the hair is dry and then it should scrunch out. Maybe try less custard next time and see if that improves things. But also, if drying naturally it literally takes hours to dry out. Try drying with a diffuser to speed the process up ❤️

      So sorry! Yes you will be able to use it no problem - because it is used as a shampoo it runs out quicker than if you used it as a conditioner if you see what I mean. Lots of people would be like nooooo don't use it but honestly life is too short to follow rules too strictly so just use it up and buy the approved one next time

    Do you ever brush your hair or is it best not to x

      I only ever used to brush it at the point of washing it. But honestly, it didn't work for me. Some people don't ever do it besides during the wash but I have learned that for my hair I need to brush it and then spritz with some water to 'refresh' the curls each morning xx

    When I was young I had a proper little afro my hair was so curly I've ruined it over the years and now it's a slight wave with flicks on the end but now I want my curls back😔

    These products aren't CG approved, might worth checking what you're using and approving x

    Loved the video but most of these products aren't actually CG so just be careful calling it the Cg method as that is only for natural paraben/silicon free products

    "it's not being covered in chemicals"? But it is literally being coated in chemicals? You might like these over other chemicals but that's what the products are?
    I'm not into using so many products in my life... I think the world needs us to choose less consumption. Just a thought. (I'm here because someone suggested CGM I'd never heard of it)

      Sorry that was me getting my words muddled. What I mean is, the hair isn’t being coated by chemicals that damage and dehydrate wavy and curly hair. Sulphites and silicone cause hair to be limp and heavy and therefore cutting them out helps the wave / curl return. There are a few natural products available which I will eventually try out but I want to use up the ones I have first. Thank you for watching :-)
