    I really hate how people try to dismiss what former legends accomplished.
    Competition is always relative to the time. For example, Lebron is said to have faced the stiffest competition, yet he also has had some of the most firepower at his disposal through players that he aligned himself with.
    Regarding Wilt, just as it was with Russell and Kareem, he played against other tall players. He just was better than pretty much all of them.

    • @bigjay52
      @bigjay52 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      🫡Yup, my issue is that I still don't see what overly super-stiff talent LeBron played against. The League went Defenseless by Commissioner design and when did Bron check his man defenselessly all game. On offense Lebron runs thru as many picks as Steph Curry. I just don't see it when I watch him play. I would luv the stat of how many of Bron's All-time scoring total points were actually contested shots.

    • @keomatherapper
      @keomatherapper 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @bigjay52 I agree, regarding how disempowered defenders are. Also, Bron doesn't impress me when comparing him to other greats that came before him; not when I was doing defensive shuffling and sliding drills all in my early teen to mid-20's, in addition to other exercises though taught and reinfoced fundamentals. To me ain't that guy. He cannot see MJ on both ends of the floor when you take a look at both of their careers in full.

      @@keomatherapper amen, between PEDs and teammates LBJ has stacked the deck, Kobe Bryant was exponentially better than James, LBJ is probably 10 or 11 of all time if you remove PEDs he ends up with only 3.5 championships and questionable stats giving juiced stats which will get asterisk

    Erik is dead ass wrong. Who TF is stopping Wilt in today’s game??? Give that man his respect!! Wilt was just a freak, just like Shaq, so there really is no one in NBA history that could guard him in ANY era. The only reason he didn’t win more chips is that the Celtics had a starting line up of hall of famers and those Celtics would smoke any team in today’s game because they played team ball and had Red Auerbach piloting the ship. It’s ignorant to believe the NBA was unathletic back then, they just weren’t taught to play that way until Pistol broke the mold.

  • @3dtraining633

    No, Kobe didn't try to get scoring title. He wanted Chips over title. And if you remember, Phil told Kobe to scale it back from scoring so that they wouldn't lose Shaq being engaged. Kobe was on a 40-point scoring streak at that time, and he let off the gas because of Phil.

    • @teamcaveman
      @teamcaveman 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Kobe played for the scoring title in 2005, and they missed the playoffs that year. Running the shot clock down looking for your shot and passing last second to a teammate hoping he’ll bail you out. That pretty much summed up the 2005 season. Kobe scored lots of points, but the lakers kept losing. I think the next year Kobe was told to pass more during the playoffs vs PHX, and in the deciding game 7 Kobe didn’t shoot at all.
      Versus OKC in WCF Bynum was the mismatch but Kobe wanted to take over and they lost that series. As great as a player as Kobe was, when he tried to go for stats the lakers usually lost

    • @3dtraining633
      @3dtraining633 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @teamcaveman The All time scoring title not regular season bro. And after Shaq left he got the regular season scoring title. He wasn't worried about that. He could of got that every year damn near but was it always going to contribute to him winning? Probably not. He wanted to WIN. Most times when Kobe scored 40 plus they won those games. EVen when he went on thay scoring streak. The y were winning those games and he shot high % in these games. He scored because that's what his job was, and his teams weren't built to win many games, so he had to pick up the slack or lose Bynun wasnt that good bro lol. OKC was just the better team period.. It was tough after Shaq however He went to 3 chips when Shaq left and won 2.

    • @teamcaveman
      @teamcaveman 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@3dtraining633 they won after they stole Gasol and Bynum matured…they missed the playoffs after Shaq left. Struggling is being a lower seed and facing a tough first round. Missing the playoffs is just sucking!! They didn’t win too any games in 2005. He went for 40 many times and they lost because of it. No denying he could score at will, but so could Bird.
      Lakers went up 3-1 vs PHX, and game 4 and 5 Kobe was trying to score, not win. Pass it to a role player at the end of the game who hasn’t shot all game and expect him to be in rhythm? Even Kobe needed to shoot several times to get in rhythm. And then blame all the other guys why they lost. Kobe knew he shot the team out of those 2 games and instead of manning up he stopped shooting game 7 like a baby.
      Versus Pistons in the finals he wanted MVP so bad he tried to go away from Shaq…that’s why they lost. Detroit played well for sure but he played right into their hands and made it easy for them. His greatest games are versus sorry teams during the regular season when he’s trying to pad his stats. Most teams try and blow out the suck teams and rest at end of the game giving role players more court time. Not Kobe, even shooting more and staying in the game when it’s mathematically ever. Maybe later he played to win, but there was a long stretch when he played for stats

    • @3dtraining633
      @3dtraining633 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @teamcaveman NOBODY would agree that Kobe played for stats. Again, he could have gotten whatever stats he wanted to get. He was a scorer that was not hard to do for him. He did what had to do to get wins. He took more pride in winning games. He purposely didn't shoot vs. Suns to prove a point to Phil that without him scoring, we can't win. Thus, he was 5 for 7 in Chmapionahips. And he has winning playoff record. That tells you it's WINS over stats bro. Your mistakenly thinking he's chasing scoring because he scores. That's not the case. That's just what he does. He's a bonifde scorerr. It comes easy to him.

    Like c'mon now, how people we know work regular 9 to 5 jobs, but they gets busy on the court with real skills?
    We gotta stop the false narrative of saying this generation of hoopers weren't good because they work jobs too lol!
    We went to school, did homework and played ball outside til nighttime, does us being full time students make us less athletic or without basketball prowess because we go to school 😂
    To say teachers, plumbers, garbage men can't play or have serious basketball IQ and skills is asinine.
    You will never hear football or baseball players speaking like that about the previous greats of their professional sport.
    But that's what the NBA conversation is about now, degrading the previous greats to try to promote the new era as better.

    Wilt is forever in my Top 3. You have to go back and actually watch him play. Wilt was Hakeem before Hakeem. He had excellent footwork, a fadeaway jumper that no one could stop, and his vision on the court, of course for his height, was par none. Wilt was THEE most dominant center the league has ever seen. Forget Bill's titles. That man was surrounded by Hall of Famers his entire career with mid numbers. Technically, he was Lebron before Lebron if you look at it closely. Lebron is more athletic than Bill ever was, but the circumstances for his time reminds me a lot of him and his quest for titles. Bill wasn't dominating players so much as working with his teammates in a very efficient way. Lebron, unfortunately, isn't effiicient. Forget his numbers, he's a bum. Sorry Mel, you know how I feel about Lebron fam...😂

    Great Segment, and conversation, here are some absolutes that we must also be able to have some clarity. Going back to 2003, the rape allegation and full exoneration I may add, are when the assault by the media changes everything for Kobe Bryant. He was denied several MVPs and other potential honors. Truthfully his legacy would not have been any different based on the media’s forever perception of him and tear down. As for Wilt Chamberlian, he was not great enough to win championships, imposing yes, physically gifted at the time, yes, his lack of team knowledge impacted the chances he had to win big at the highest level during the 1960s.

    Kobe's 81 points is greater than Wilt's 100 points due to how Wilt scored most of his 100 points which were close to the basket. Records are meant to be broken so I don't agree at all with Phil Jackson when he stopped Kobe from breaking Wilt's record. WHY? That's the same as a referee calling a bogus OFFENSIVE FILE ON KOBE TO nullify the bucket that he just scored that would have won the game. That's F*CKING RIDICULOUS. I bet he wouldn't have puled Jordan out of the game in the same situation. There wasn't a 3 point line. That basket area was always loaded to try and contain Wilt. The Knicks didn't exactly have Willis Reed yet but they didn't have a Toys R US manager like you guys think either. A completely unrelated example for me personally is this game I used to play a lot called geometry wars. On Xbox live 134 in the world was my highest ranking but on Nintendo I'm ranked number one in the world on several leaderboards because the talent pool is much smaller. When you have a larger talent pool you have more fierce competition and it becomes much more difficult to ascend to the top...

    Salley is telling a fib. The six minutes Kobe sat were at the start of the second quarter when no one, including Phil, knew he would finish the game with 81. Kobe had logged 17 points when Phil rested him.
    Kobe Bryant then played the ENTIRE second half til Phil sat him with FOUR SECONDS left in the game.
    The stupidity of this topic makes my head hurt.

    Kobe was a nothing but a second option player in 2003 it was Shaq that had the biggest impact on winning. On the biggest stage Kobe shot 36% in the 2000 finals, 41% in the 2001 finals, 2004 finals 38%, 2008 finals 40%, 2009 finals 43% and 2010 finals 40%. The best finals he shot in was 2002 and Shaq avg 36-12-4-3 winning FMVP. MJ gets criticized for shooting 41% in the 1996 finals well that’s the % Kobe shot in all his finals combined.
    Go look at Kobe first 8 years with Shaq. He’d shoot 47% in the regular season and once the playoffs came around 43 to 42%. No matter how hard Kobe worked efficiency was something he struggled with!! Kobe starting record without Shaq from 1999-2004 was 23-26 they were below avg. Shaq record without Kobe in that same time frame was 31-10. In 2003 when Kobe was putting up all those 40 points games without Shaq that season Kobe lakers went 5-10 and Kobe +\- was -40 combined.
    After Shaq left we saw prime Kobe lakers struggle to be a .500 team for 3 years missing the playoffs and getting boot first round. Shaq was the big dog on that team!! Kobe is still a great top 10 to 15 all time but people have elevated him into discussions he doesn’t belong.

    I actually agree with Eric on this outside of the plumbers and janitors comment. But truth is Wilt was the biggest and strongest of his Era then Bill Russell was second. There was absolutely no1 in that era that could do anything to wilt who was 7'1 with a 40+ inch verticle. If Wilt had a team around his entire career like Bill Russell he would definitely have more than 2 rings....

    kobe is NOT on jordans level bro
    even clown- boy gilbert arenas got this right ... he said kobe was imitating jordan AFTER mike came back from playing baseball... and he STILL was not on jordans level
    the MJ from 1984- 93 kobe could never fly like that --- no one could even TRY to imitate that MJ
    kobe was not even the primary dude on the first 3 championship teams; jordan was ALWAYS that guy with bulls
    again: when you compare someone to jordan you just bring out that players bad points so just don't even do it... just say "he's all time great" and leave it at that

    Wilt did what did in his era which is remarkable but will forever be known as the early years of basketball. I also knew about Phill not wanting Kobe to break Wilts record before Kobe passed which is really sad. To the lady sticking up for yester year basketball I'll say this; the white guys back then weren't advanced enough to stop good white guys let alone athletic black guys dominating the league. Miss me with the league being condensed and 4 HOF's on one team will outplay one goliath with a supporting cast. The man didn't say everyone was garbage, he said no one was able to stop the Celtics because of the stacked squad. Wilt couldn't do it by himself and we all know this, the same with MJ and Kobe. Magic proved even with a stacked team you won't be able win the chips the Celtics from the 60's because of the amount of teams now. Yes it would've changed Kobe's legacy because that feat would have Kobe only fans saying he eclipsed MJ hands down and most certainly erased any doubt LBJ has surpassed Kobe. Another reason the 60's aren't considered when mentioning the goat is because the 60's rules allowed ppl to goaltend (how many rebounds would Rodman finished with in his career if he was allowed to goaltend).)

    The NBA players of the past were plumbers/janitors part time in the off season was not due to skill but economics. The league didn't generate the revenue they do in this modern age and this is reflected in the player's salary. One example is the disparity between NBA and WNBA salaries.

    Yes, nepotism has existed for a long time, especially in the NBA front office. But in those positions, they can train people to be competent. Nobody in the past has drafted their kid who obviously can not play at that level. Some of these fans have been brainwashed to ignore absolutely anything negative about LeBron. He should have got Bronny a front office job or something. This move sets a standard that if you're a successful player you can now get your kids drafted even if they can't play, which is damaging the integrity of the sport.

    He is the leading score after limping around for 20+ years and only playing on one end for the last 7 or 8. Kobe breaking the record would have just been a notch in the belt. I agree that stats can be played with. That's why I don't care about this Olympic MVP. Just like when KD won the Finals on, that team could have put the extra load on a few players to allow them to get MVP. Wasn't that 100 point game in like OT or 2OT? I disagree about the plumbers and janitors comment, but I do think it's different playing against guys who specialize and basketball is an everyday and all day thing. As good as Wilt was. That's one man vs a whole team. A whole team can slow you down enough or outdo what one player or whatever can do

    Eric, please know this. You are flat out wrong about the NBA in the 60’s. Just because these players had outside jobs does not mean they were not elite as compared to today’s players. It’s something you dudes who have a motive to downgrade past eras to elevate this one love to say. Just because you yelled it into the mic didn’t make you right. Saying the only reason Wilt had such a high average was because he played against dudes who just left a race riot and driving taxis is one of the most ridiculous and disrespectful takes of all time. Worse than what Anthony Edwards said.
