    Brilliant! Great song and great tutorial. I’ve been playing this incorrectly for a few years. I always knew something was off, and WOW, I’m so excited right now to try that business with the open E string. That never would have occurred to me. :o Thank you so much for doing this!

      Me neither! Bernard was a genius. Also, I think it's E but could be proved wrong. Try it and see what you think. Thanks for watching.

      Hey Dan, Not only are you a very talented bassist and a really good teacher but the fact that you recognize Bernard Edwards as the great Bassist he really was. It was litening to Him in Chic that I trully fell in love with the Bass Guitar. What a groove hacker the man was. Thanks Man.

      Thanks, James! Bass up quite a lot (on the StingRay), treble only a bit. Flat EQ no compression anywhere else.

    Dan that was excellent and its interesting that Bernard used a similar fast-octave style in We Are Family, which I have been learning today. The difficult part for me is keeping the notes clean in the fast octaves. Are you muting with the 3rd and 4th fingers of the plucking hand? It looks like you are keeping your fretting fingers very close to the fretboard, is that also part of the muting technique? Whats our advice on keeping it clean and clear?

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael. Thanks; and great questions! The muting is more or less all the ‘spare’ fingers of the fretting hand. I go through it more here: th-cam.com/video/iQ2_cVSBXGo/w-d-xo.html. It’s such an important but underrated technique. This is a perfect bass line to practise it.

    • @bocobocoboco
      @bocobocoboco 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OnlineBassCourses that video is very helpful. I think the key is to not raise the fingers too high, when releasing pressure. To keep the finger lightly on the string instead of lifting it off right away into the air? is that correct? Ive seen some videos of Bernard Edwards playing these lines live and his fretting hand doesn't actually appear to be moving much or even doing much, and I don't think he's miming. It's that 'effortless mastery' the great players have where they don't appear to be doing much with their hands but the amazing sounds appear like magic. I have taken your advice and am recording my practice using GarageBand and its revealing a lot of flaws. Good advice.

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bocobocoboco That's exactly right. Keep the fingers close to the strings as that's where they can help control them the most. Use both hands to mute depending on the situation.

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much! Unfortunately I don't... Noisy likely a fair bump on the bass and a little bit on the treble (both from the onboard EQ). No EQ anywhere else.
