• 7 Amazing Bernard Edwa...
DISCO | FUNK | CHIC | SISTER SLEDGE | NILE RODGERS | BERNARD EDWARDS
Very very nice. I am the younger brother of Bernard and he would have been proud to hear you recreate his bass lines. Thank you for the tribute
hi Mr. Edwards ,your brother was /is a BEAST of a bass player! wow ....as a bass player for a few decades now and a musician out of the womb , Im almost embarrassed to say it but , I am just finding out about him (the man Bernard Edwards) recently, or i should say, im paying more attention to the" who is who " now.. i sometimes play a 70's disco gig and have played a few of the hits . i just never payed much attention to the bassists that were playing these amazing grooves...
his playing has truly inspired me to dig in and get playing again . 🙏
Bernard was just awesome to listen to..so sorry about the loss of your brother.
You are the younger brother of THE BASS GOD!! Believe That!❤
Fake
@@sebastiancastro5950his last name is Edward's too.
Who knows?
Great ! Fun to learn ! Thanks Danny
Bernard was actually the very reason I started playing the bass In 1976 or so. I heard chic so many times I know every small detail of his basswork. I was blessed with very good hearing, and I have never heard anyone who had all the little details in rythym and notes down to "micro-level". But you. my friend, you do. Exellent! Especially the chucking is impressive.
Fun fact is that I sent a letter to the CHIC organization asking Bernard what his gear was, I had an F-bass and didn't get that sound. I don't think he got it though. I never got a reply. But years later I discovered he played a stingray and I thought "why didn't I know this sooner". It was a sound I loved and still do. BUT..wait for it... Then I heard from other reliable sources he didn't used a Stingray on the first hits like everybody dance, and Dance, dance, dance. Possible I think on the two first albums or at least the first, he used a BC Rich Eagle.
But this video....Kudos my friend!
That bass is so nice, I love the light blue. ✌️😙
Congratulations!
My name is Cláudio Machado. I'm a Brazilian professional bassist. I really liked your work on Chic's bass lines.
Wow.. this is completely Ridiculously good.. fantastic job 😊
Holy shit he really used a foam?
Nice work. I play bass for Kathy Sledge and Sister Sledge. I approve of this video
@@virtualunreality8326 haha thanks. No I don’t have a stingray
@@Mes799what does this comment mean?
Absolutely unreal. Love and miss Bernard. Massively under rated. Spot on tribute 😊
I agree with you 100%! Bernard was a beast, a legend !
I wouldn't say he was underrated
Legend
Underrated? WTAF? He's rated as one of the greatest.
You nailed it. Best impression of Chic yet. That includes the backing music as well.
Dude I love the fact that not only can you emulate so many different styles and sounds but you really get into the groove of whatever you playing and obviously really, really enjoy it👍👍👍👍
He is the one and the only reason I am a bassist today, even as a young boy I was mesmerised with his sound before I even laid hands on a bass,it was meant to be.For me he still reigns supreme.
You are the first one who really can play like the best bass player ever in history, Bernard Edwards. His bass lines were the best❤
Danny, you absolutely rock and our man Bernard would be proud!
Edwards is on my top list for sure. How he can somehow fit all those notes in busy melodic lines and still have groove and space... With perfect timing. So good.
They're all amazing. Bernard was king of the slick basslines. The Good Times bassline was the blueprint for both Rappers Delight and Another One Bites the Dust. Still Thinking of You and Le Freak are my two favorites.
I was listening to slide by Calvin Harris and Frank Ocean the other day. You can add that to the list.
That take of Everybody Dance is enough - you're clearly a huge Bernard fan to pull that off, it's such an unusual technique and you've taken the time to learn it. Huge respect. 🙌
Danny! Giving inspiration to a 77 year old bassist still learning something new everyday. Thank you.
Bernard himself would be impressed, flattered and give it a thumbs up...GREAT JOB and totally flawless. This to me is how homage is paid!
Man, you got Bernard Edwards down packed. I miss his work on the bass. I started listening to him in 1977.
Thank you for recognizing a fantastic bass player!
No cóż Bernard Edwards to legenda ale świetnie sobie poradziłeś. Brzmienie basu jest świetne.
Great list. Here's some other killer base lines from Bernard Edwards in my opinion: solo on Diana Ross's "Upside Down", Sister Sledge's "I Got to Love Somebody Today", and of course Bernard's solo on Chic's "Rebels are We". I wish I could play like you to jump into these as well.

Excellent on many levels. Superb video for players and punters alike, lovely looking and sound mix spot on. What a great tribute to musical Greatness! ❤
Great job Danny 🙌🏾-Bernard is smiling on down🙏🏾
That's awesome. I've been working on Good Times for a week or so, I'm coming back to the bass after 20 years of not playing and learning to play finger style for the first time, so it's not easy. I really appreciate your camera work, showing really clear shots of either hand and the technique you're using for each part. Thanks! ❤
Your pretty good bro.. Nicely done
I miss The Great Bernard as well .😢
Job well done sir.
Definitely the best attempt at recreating Bernard Edwards' bass technique on "Everybody Dance". Most, if not all, don't come close to capturing it, but your version is damn good !
A master class is soul bass…. Even the simpler bits are so recognisable and brilliant……..
He's a great example of how sometime "less is more". Just listen to "I want your love" bass line...the pauses. Just perfect. By the way...didn't he play the magnificent bass on Carly Simons "Why"...coolest bass line: th-cam.com/video/BmTj8zkDBbM/w-d-xo.html
Great video! That took some work. Nice!
Wonderful! I DO HOPE that new DISCO-FUNK artists will born...we DO NEED this Music!
Excellent playing Danny! Much Respect to Bernard's playing, and to the Music Man bass too! Great tracks as well. Loved it..... Bob Fazio, LA Bass Player
You've got my vote ! The best Chic bass covers on TH-cam by far .
Thank you so much! Always remember Mr. Bernard Edwards.
Somebody doing Bernard proud at long last! My hat off to you good sir and keep up the great work.
Those are amazing chords. Half the time he's not playing the root. So creative.
Thank you, Danny! 50+ GenXer here, and Bernard's basslines were part of the soundtrack of my preteen/teen years 🥲❤
Nailed each and every one of them my favorite baselines by my favorite bassist thank you.
Edit : You should definitely have more likes
🥰 Beautiful... 🙏 🥰
I would have LOVED to see you do Power Station's "SOME LIKE IT HOT" & "GET IT ON". Even though the bass part was actually played by Duran Duran's John Taylor, it was BERNARD that arranged & orchestrated those parts out and taught John just how to get the groove to record them.
And of course, must we not forget the incredible tracks on Diana Ross' album "DIANA". "UPSIDE DOWN" & "I'M COMING OUT" was fabulous, over the top, bass guitar work from Bernard.

Good feel, 90-95% accurate reproduction. My I ask your age ? Also quite realistic backing tracks, they're not the studio tracks, but very very resembling, up to the smallest hihat details. Would be really interesting to know where you got them.
3:33 not quite identical. Thinking Of You very similar, in the pocket. But don't slide between the low F and G , it's a pull off. The entire track is very truthful to Bernards spirit and approach, I commend you for this as a younger player. Could elevate it to 95-98% by throwing in some more ghost notes and if played on a '76-79 Stingray with flats.
Wow!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you for honoring Bernard Edwards. He was the reason I got into bass. I mainly play guitar and used to think bass was boring. Bernard showed me I was wrong. RIP.
Bernard simply was the best at bass lines
Beautiful bass player, love his right hand technique. Nice job, Danny!
Great medley btw - love the segues!! Cracking tracks too
Wow! You‘ve got that magic touch.
David Konig (Retrovibe Basses) used to make/sell a fantastic pre-amp for his basses called the stinger....gives a very authentic pre-EB Musicman-Stingray sound. I have one fitted to my Cort GB44.
You are a twin-brother to talent, bloody awesome 👏
That's great fella, but I'm REALLY impressed by the LNER Mallard on your shelf.
Superbly executed sir. A fantastic tribute to one of the twentieth century's finest bass players. Thanks for your work.
Great!
I think somebody could/should do an 'Another One Bites the Good Times' hybrid solo.
Wow note for note, phrasings and syncopation perfect. Bernard would have been impressed. Awesome tribute!!
I totally love the bassline of "Thinking of you" and you performed it very well!
Great job! I'm still trying to get the finger-pick sound on Everybody Dance. You nailed it!
NICELY DONE! Thought i was the only one that uses my nail as a pick :)
Played very well indeed, by I will never understand why people want to listen to such pappy mash. It's awful.
How did you come up with the backing tracks? Your playing rules btw!
In a way..Bernard helped birth HIP HOP with his amazing bass line on good times and rappers delight(the first rap song the world heard)
Been bustin my ass trying to get the same feel and technique on these Bernard bass lines! Guy was so slick with it!
There are a lot of comments. I've read them on the fly, and I'm surprised that no one was asking how the hell and from where does the pick appear, and where does it disappear on the first song? Is that index finger nail pick? 🙃
Very nice bahs guitar you have here. Nice playing, perhaps even useful in some band. I like it!
Nice! Hey, where are you stowing the pic/plectrum after that first bit? It just disappears.
Excellent tone.... That exciting bass tone. That made this song. And all the other.... Great.
Just wonderful - congrats! That’s the instrument I’d love to play if I wasn’t a Lutenist who has to take care of his fingertips 😅. Great channel!
bernard edwards played with flatwounds...try a bass with flats, could change your life! Very smooth feeling
@@Sorrowablaze Thanks for your advice!
Can Danny Sapko play Behs?? Seems so! Great choices!
bernard was a genius... you are a worthy sucessor mate, hats off:)
I'm not ashamed to say that brought tears to my eyes.
Mine too 🥲
Go with the eternal flow. Ending with good times the last #1of the disco predominance before my shorona and the drastic fall of the genre
I didn't know how much I missed the late 70's until I watched this. Thanks, Danny. 🥲
When I was a suburban white boy back in the day I was saying 'disco sucks... Rock & Roll!' Well, I didn't know shiit and Disco Lives!!!
Wow! Spot on man! And this bass has the perfect tone as well....
EXCELLENT!
Funking amazing... well done young Daniel
It was also Bernard who got Nile Rodgers to play the choppy, staccato style on the guitar
I can't imagine how many hours you spent learning and practicing those lines 😎👍
That was a great funky dance rhythm section right there my son !
Yes Yes Yes B.E is my inspiration now if you only teach me how to get his BEHS tone
Truly amazing but you have big shoes to fill
you forgot to play 'rebels are we'''''' and soup for one'''''
So excellent Danny! Got the groove in the pocket!!
Those Retrovibe basses are amazing, arent't they?
I think the player is amazing, not the bass guitar 😉
Those are some deep greasy pockets! Where do those backing tracks come from?
I recommend that your camera for the fret hand be improved to be in focus on the fret hand as opposed to the head stock.
Number four is my cut didn't he play a fender base
Please tell me Danny how do I get that exact tone what do I have buy
Little brother loves da funk
Fucking amazeballs !!!!!!!! Love it
come on Danny make it magic you pay realy good the Behs
What about My Feet Keep Dancing??
You did Bernard proud👍👍👍👍
I want your love is my fav bass line. The big beefy open e
Looks like flat wounds, excellent.
You need a musicman stingray in your life
Great job. FUNK regards !
