For comparison, the best time trial cyclists can achieve +/- 54 km/h on a flat road, and mantain such speed for nearly 1 hour.
I cycle a reasonable amount and can manage 53kmh on a flat road for 40 seconds. Then I’m all out of juice!

I was cycling up a hill one time on my single speed steel bicycle vs a guy on a carbon road aero bicycle with all the expensive lycra/gears. I was cruising up hill with one gear but the guy on the aero-bicycle was struggling with many gears. I dunno? he shouldn't be struggling at all going up hill, carbon + gears = faster up hill.

as Raleigh Shopper rider i know why he so fast, it's the bearings and build of these little vintage bikes , they roll so smooth not much fiction, easy to pedal low weight low centre of gravity, get on these little old bikes, lots of fun.

I'm a keen moutain bike, also ride other bikes. I own a Puch Promenade, I do around 1500 miles on this bike alone getting shopping , to the pub etc. I highly recommend owning a shjt old shopper bike ...so much fun to be had...and they keep you peddle strong 👊

(1) He probably has a road bike (2) He probably isn't a priest (and if he is, he's likely also a cyclist) (3) the bike is still bad compared with decent road bikes, just not obvious as long as it is merely rolling down a hill - even there it is quite bad compared to the others, which gets obvious in the moment that one of the other cyclists puts some power through his pedals for a second, and creates a gap immediately
