Just keep in mind the vehicle in front is drastically reducing the air resistance for the cyclist which is why he can achieve such high speeds
That kinda correct, they're occupying a area of low pressure created by the wagon and as long as they can stay in that area they'll effectively be pulled along, its called slip streaming.

My speed record was 75 kmph and it was totally crazy. I did it on my Specialized Hardrock 26 4 years ago. The bike had 48x11 top gear ratio and I was going down an empty highway. Also I was going 60 kmph on my 24 kg Corto Yeti fatbike and 69 on my Merida Big Trail 500. All bikes listed are custom, the fattie and Merida obviously couldn't reach that speed on plain roads so I also was going downhill.
Recently I almost crashed at 40 kmph provided that 40-50 kmph is my normal speed down the highway. In that case I was driving with one hand holding my phone in the other one. I definitely dont recommend you guys doing that crazy shit. At these speeds you need motorcycle protection which obviously couldn't be used when riding a bicycle.
I did 75-76 km/h on my bonestock specialized Pitch last year going down a pretty steep downhill. I would have gone faster but my gearing didn't allow it.
I might be young but fast. I reached 38 kmh with 5th gear and my shifting was kinda perfect and i also kinda suck on it but i could be fast.
dude that`s amazing rating u got, my top speed is 67 down the highway and i planned to break my score, but... u know, troubles in life happening, the highway i used to ride is forbidden to ride anymore cuz of this war appeared in my country tho. Now i just limited with downtown roads.
@@marcelsabo5697 wow, I googled that bike and I can tell, you can go faster - all you need to do is add more gearing (e.g. 48x11 top gear ratio) and add more weight as well.
My Specialized Hardrock was around 16 kg, which probably was the reason it was so stable and fast (especially when going downhill)

The guy riding the skateboard down the hill will have a lot of momentum when you crash you lose momentum, if the momentum stops quickly the forces will be greater. When wearing a helmet even though it wont be too effective it will still increase the time for his momentum to become zero therefore your comment "You think a helmet would do anything at that speed?Nope" is wrong

To me is very impressive indeed. When I was young - 30 years ago - I had a speedometer on my bike, Caloi 10, and I never got past 36 km an hour on the plane. When training for the World's held in San Diego, we hit 60 mph with a 47/14 gear track bike, no brakes behind a Ford Bronco.
The first 2 guys were crazy. Based on their bikes' technology during that year, the 77mph speed, his one hand salute on the handlebar, no helmet, bunny hops, head turn around, these are the things that could have killed him. I made descending at 50mph with similar setup & I almost got killed. My rear wheel wobbled so much that it could have blown up at any time. And then my rear turned into fishtail whipping. Yes, just a tiny out of true of your rear or front wheel, you are risking your life for that little moment.

This is called drafting, one of the most basic techniques in road racing, it’s when something upfront blocks the wind passing towards you and preventing the wind from slowing you down

I remember back when flatnose trucks were common back in the 70's. A lot of them would get within a couple feet of the truck in front of them to reduce drag for better fuel economy. Lots crashes from it but it saved lots of fuel for the truck.

Nothing strange. We do that every time we find a truck or bus overtaking us slowly. The speed however is really high. I would only worry about my bike tires at such speeds. Don't know if they can be safe over 80km
I've done over 285kph on a bicycle tire on one of my electric bicycles, as long as the rubber is light enough to not pull off the rim, all is gold

Just bear in mind that any weakness in components or stability will be magnified. Your brakes will overheat, your chain could snap or jam, your tires can get too hot and with higher pressure at the same time, and even a jockey wheel could melt or break. There is also unusually high stress on the head set. The bunny hops are incredibly dangerous from this last point of view.

Yep, and a meteor that we don't know about could come slinging faster than the speed of light towards your house and kill you. What I'm trying to say is, they know the risks and are taking them because it's what gives them joy in life. No point in living life in constant fear of death because it's pointless. Everybody dies at some point and I think living a short life to the fullest is better than a long one filled only with the fear of death. Anything could happen so it's best no to think about it. However, know your risks and limits in order to increase the chance of survival. Unless dying is what makes you happy in life but that contradicts itself. So does commiting suicide though, ending your life because you couldn't handle the pain? If there is no afterlife(which lets be real there probably is not) then why do it? You could at the very least finding something you enjoy and stick with it. Most people have a lot more control over there lives than they realize.
