My job as a kid in the 80's was to de fog all the windows and windscreen in the humid rainey weather here in the Caribbean. I remember when we finally got AC in a car i was so happy!
My best trick is to squeegee the inside of the windows from time to time. There is a buildup of oils over time on the inside of windows that makes fogging much worse. It may look weird at the gas station but it works!
@@Oh-That-Guy-Again I've tried that but you would be surprised on how effective windshield wiper solution and a squeegee is. Would be interesting to do a test.

Hey Scotty! Thanks for clearing that up for me. 41 years old and I had no idea the A/C comes on when I have the defrost crankin. I guess that means I'm getting worse gas mileage
Chuck Yeager had a problem with his Bell X-1 windshield fogging up and freezing. I forget the name of his engineer, but he cured the problem with Joy dish soap.

My Old Ford Pick Up 30min to change a heater core, My Neighbors old Dodge we had to remove the entire dash, and then wait weeks for parts that we broke while doing it.
I spent 2 summers in Vegas without AC in a 2001 4 door blazer with only single climate control in the front and the compressor went out was $1,600 for a new one not including labor to install and we ended up selling it for $600 they drove it 2 weeks before it blew up. My mom was on disability and we just couldn't afford to maintain it and she never told me how much maintenance it needed beyond oil changes and I did that, but I didn't know there was more than that until I bought my own vehicle several years later. I wouldn't recommend driving without AC to anyone unless you live in a place like California. I dreaded having to go anywhere at anytime except the winter because the heater worked but it would feel like you were melting anytime you had to stop at a light and while you were moving it just felt like a hot blow drier it was awful I will never buy a vehicle without working AC because of that experience.
My Toyota Matrix the previous owner had not changed the coolant in the car ever. I had so many issues until I did 2 of the prestone anti-freeze system flushes, saved my car. I also did a motor medic engine oil flush. I realize that's not something to do a lot but it can help if your car wasn't ever maintained.
Another trick you can do if your windows are fogging up is you take an old sock, fill it up with cat litter ,seal it with a duct tape or something like that and just throw it under a seat or on a dash if you don't mind looking at it and people asking questions. It will slowly absorb excess humidity in your car and prevent the condensation on your windows so they will stop fogging up. 👍
Heat pumps are actually quite simple... The complicated part is the reversing valve that reverses the refrigerant flow through the internal and external sets of coils. In heat mode you are actually cooling the outside air... Lol
All newer vehicles have radiator overflow reservoirs which essentially manage the expansion and contraction of coolant. Won't keeping the correct level of coolant in the overflow reservoir avoid air getting into the cooling system and heater core?
Foggy windows were usually followed by the sound of tapping on the window by a Police Officer who was "just checking" to make sure me and my girl were "ok". Ahhh, the good old days. 😏
One thing I found out a few years ago is that if the control is set to recirculate the air, all of the windows except the windshield and part of the front side windows will be the only ones that do not fog up. That is because the moisture in your breath will be trapped inside the car and all the windows the defroster is not blowing directly on will condense your breath moisture on them. Once I figured that out and took the control off recirculate, the moisture was slowly blown out the exhaust vents and all of the other windows started to clear up.
The 2019 Camry has an electronically controlled thermostat. When I had my independent mechanic do a coolant flush, the OEM thermostat was approximately $100. He told me it was a complex system and not like the older regulator cooling systems.
Gotta replace your hot water pump in your a/c unit. It allows your face to be warm while driving by scolding it completely off. I'd take it in for a service.
Wow... I shared this to my son, the owner of the car I drive. The A/C comes on with the heat/defroster. I thought it was a fault in my car's system. I always turn it right off. It just takes a little longer to clear the fog and I've got the old 100% cotton flannel shirt with the sleaves cut off right there to wipe a little if need be.
Dealerships by me are refusing to do business with anyone named Scotty. Your last name doesn't even have to be Kilmer. If you're first name is Scotty, they call the cops on you.
My best trick is to get them little packages that you get in beef jerky's save about 30 of them put them in a used sock tie it up and put it on your dashboard
Scotty, when cleaning the windshield first, use ammonia/water mix or spray and use a course cloth to break the film then, use a good cleaner like Windex and balled-up b/w newspaper, rub vigorously. The oils in black ink will make the glass shine and foggy windshields are a thing of the past.
I have to replace the heater core in my 02 Dodge ram. I had a coolant leak somewhere in the back of the engine where i couldn't repair it. I guess i added too much black pepper to the cooling system and it blew the heater core. Now i have this wonderful job ahead of me😒
I had a VW bug back in the day. I’m not sure why a German built car was built with the worst heating system in the world. It was barely functional in the CA desert but but, oh Lordy, taking on a trip to the mountains during winter meant not only foggy windows but completely frosted windows that the defroster never touched except for maybe a small circle. And don’t get me going on the wipers.
When my f150 fan stopped working on the bottom 3 fan speeds, there was something behind the glove box I changed and got the full range back, can't remember what it was called but a google search saved me at least 125$ dealer visit
Another issue, at least what happened with my Chevy Traverse... whomever designed the A/C line path, did a horrible job... since the A/C line rubbed against the heater line caused a hole in the A/C line. 😞
Before watching, the fan speed is set too low. You need air movement to keep it clear. I see so many people crank the heat to max and the turn the fan all the way down, and wonder why it’s fogging up. Turn the fan up to half or higher and adjust the temp to whatever is comfortable, and split it to windshield and floor. You’ll stay comfy and the windows will stay clear. Edit: if you got too much moister in the cabin turn on you A/C it won’t cool if the temp is set to warm and it will help dry the air.
Scotty Heat Pumps aren’t that complex. Instead of the engine powering the AC compressor it’s a DC motor via the battery pack. During normal AC, it blows cold air inside (captures heat) and spits it out via the radiator. For heating, there’s a reversing valve and reverses the flow of refrigerant.
?? - Nisson Frontier with two zone cab temperature system - left side windshield defogger / defroster works fine, right side blows cold air and will not clear glass. System has two airflow diverter plates, left easy to get to ( have not heard of any problems ). Right is between housing and firewall (told have to remove dash to replace) right one seems to HABITUALLY FAIL. $ 1200.-- to replace a $18.-- part. ps always seems to fail throwing cold air, summer / winter it's stuck in one position.
I bought a used car, ran it over 150,000 miles, then the heater fan stopped working. Genius that I am not, I replaced the fan motor, which was stupidly glued in place, which made taking it out a lot harder. The new fan motor...didn't work. I finally traced the problem to the wiring. The previous owners had installed a remote start, then uninstalled it, and left a bare connection, which then corroded to a fuzzy green when it got wet. Doh!
QUESTION >>>Have an old pick up truck … the repair cost of replacing my heater core is over a THOUSAND dollars. I have AC that I never use & probably will never use CAN I CUT THE FREON LINES and HOOK up the water lines (AC located engine compartment) … CREATIVE THOUGHT this could be a VERY CHEAP ALTERNATIVE TO REPLACING THE HEATER CORE … What do you think Scotty??
Im on the uk, on these cold autumn and will be winter nights, my windscreen fogs up, it no matter how much I use the wipers and clear inside, its like it has fog in the laminated glass, and takes ten minutes to clear, how can I prevent it to start with
Is it hard on the AC when defrost turns it on just to defrost the windows and one changes the settings after the windows are clear and so the Ac is back off again? I mean running the AC for a minute or so and back off seems to be a bad idea. Some people seldom use the AC and I heard it should be ran from time to time even in winter because the Ac unit is self lubricating and so needs to be ran every so often for a few minutes. I've also heard not to run the AC until the car is fully warmed up for a few minutes but these new cars turn on the AC as soon as you use the defrost when needed. I heard that these new cars (heating and AC units) control the humidity in the car now too.

Now i have this wonderful job ahead of me😒
*I'm glad you made this video,* it reminds me of my transformation from a nobody to good home, $89k biweekly and a good daughter full of love..
Please how ?
$356K monthly is something you should feel differently about....
Lovely! I enjoyed it like I enjoy a $100k monthly around the turn!!!
Can I reach her?
please share don't want to remain out of ignorance.
There is her line!!!! under this comment!!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Test the coolant for voltage. Check.
Where do you fill the turn signal fluid?
My thermostat housing has a bleeder valve upon the top of it to allow it to be cracked open & vent any air from the cooling system.
I was hoping there would be some sort of coating that you could wipe on your windows to keep them from fogging forever.
Genius, Scotty! 🤩 Love it! 🥰 Thanks for sharing!! 🙏
When my f150 fan stopped working on the bottom 3 fan speeds, there was something behind the glove box
I changed and got the full range back, can't remember what it was called but a google search saved me at least 125$ dealer visit
love you scotty
Thanks Scotty!
Another issue, at least what happened with my Chevy Traverse... whomever designed the A/C line path, did a horrible job... since the A/C line rubbed against the heater line caused a hole in the A/C line. 😞
Its important to maintain the car cooling system and the heater. If it has manual transmission, it is supposed to last forever.
In So Cal Does Not Apply , Most of the time.
I think moisture is getting into the dash sometimes from dry windshield seals.
Turn the recycle air switch off . Works 9 times out of 10 on the Prairies.
Hey Scotty, I know some folks full of hot air too. BWHAHAHAHA!
Oh, you like winter? Come to North Dakota.
I like when you ring that bell!
Scotty fogged up many a backseat window back in the day
Had a 77 Power Wagon with a shot climate control. I bundled up and cracked a wing when driving in the winter.
Thank you
Scotty what about when it’s only on the passenger side? I’m going to go park on a hill first. 2015 F350 Gas
Watching your videos from the island of Guam..🌴 love watching…
A slip there Scotty, the hot water. Went back in time. Ha!
1:06 Heat pumps actually aren’t that complex. They’re the exact same as an air conditioner with a reversing valve so they can work backwards.
Never rule out the blend door actuator for any climate control issues in the cabin.
Scotty forgot to mention the possiblity of a problem in or with the controls of the air blender box.
I never knew dirty coolant conducts electricity
ANY aqueous (h20) solution conducts electricity, to some degree or another.
Making 😂out ! Hahahaha, even Scotty did that toooo …😂. Steam’em Up
Scott you forgot if you have a 160 thermostat cardboard on the front of the radiator will help warm it up
10:15 if you just want to skip to the answer.
1000s to replace a heater core or 50 for a cheap Chinese diesel heater. Just make sure you put the exhaust outside the car.
I put rainX on the inside of my windshield so no moisture will condensate and or freeze.
FYI: Warm or HOT air holds much more moisture than cold air. So just heating the air up allows the windows to defog some.
My cars are always spotless on the inside and outside, the A/C is always on, I have never had a window fog up, ever!
08:08 "The most common problem if they don't blow..." 🤣🤨
Heatpumps... very complex stuff... Like a fridge with a reverse valve so instead of taking heat out of the box it woulld put it in. So complex.
Im on the uk, on these cold autumn and will be winter nights, my windscreen fogs up, it no matter how much I use the wipers and clear inside, its like it has fog in the laminated glass, and takes ten minutes to clear, how can I prevent it to start with
How do I find out what coolant is in the car so I don't mix it?
easy trick to follow like you said !!! LOL😄
Love M.T.L Canada Merci wow USA 😂❤
Ok, in my 2007 Honda Fit, if your windshield is fogging up its because you have the re-circulation control set to re-cycled instead of fresh air.
If I'm putting the same Toyota Red Coolant, can I just do a Spill and Fill?
How about with those with no heater cars?
My 05 monte carlo runs at a quarter 180° driving. And up too half in park.
I have a jeep Cherokee I get air but not heat. How do I flush the heater core? I didn't get it.
How can the coolant be electrified?
