    This is probably the most informative and best conceived detail product video I've ever seen! I have used AutoFoam in a sprayer, but only because it was winter and I don't use the pressure washer then. I knew it worked, but never considered doing a comparison like yours. Now, I may just keep using it in a sprayer, as I really don't care about thick foam, just what cleans best and makes the job easier.

    Great video Heather. I use Bilt Hamber Touchless now 100% of the time. I find it really good and I like the thinner foam as opposed to stuff like Autoglym polar blast, I feel it cleans better and certainly disappears quick from the driveway. In saying that , my car gets hardly any heavy motorway driving and doesn’t attract too much road grime.

    Wow. Thank goodness someone made this video finally. I’ve been wondering if anyone would make such a video looking at this ever. The gains from using a pump sprayer have been on my mind since day one and I realised just how good autofoam is as a product goes in terms of cleaning power. The cost of filling up my canon however is substantial. I have to put in 340/360 ml of product into my canon and fill the rest up with water to get to 4% PIR after working it out. To say I’m happy to do this given the prices of the products would be a huge overstatement. It probably takes me a third of the canon to do the car properly. I like to use a blend of Surfex HD and autofoam in my sprayer. Extremely potent combination and traffic film stands absolutely no chance with them. I appreciate more and more how they don’t foam up forever and make my driveway look like Father Christmas 🎅 has come to visit. Good tip to stop the surface from drying out is to create some mist by turning off your pressure washer and using the trigger. The water will create a slight mist and that will keep the surfaces somewhat moist and stop them from drying out.

      Thanks for watching 😊 I’ve only ever tried auto foam and surfex together with the aim of stripping old waxes but I’ll have to give it a go as a prewash, sounds like it’d be useful on a lot of my friends’ and family’s cars! Great tip about misting the panel as well 😊

    • @kwl189
      @kwl189 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AutoCareHQ Indeed Surfex HD is a lot more detrimental to LSP so be weary of that. I’ve certainly noticed the difference between using Autofoam on its own and when combined with using Surfex HD both in terms of cleaning power and impact on LSP or in my case spray on carnauba waxes such Turtle Wax which are dead cheap and easy to apply. It’s particularly useful in the winter when film gets a bit more greasy and you need the added potency to take off as much film as possible. A very good combination when doing friends and family cars that just need the job done ASAP.
      I’ve seen a lot of people rave about Garage Therapy Wheel and Alloy shampoo. Is it any better than say using Bilt Hamber Auto wash and using that on alloys after a Surfex HD prewash?

    • @AutoCareHQ
      @AutoCareHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I really like the GT wheel shampoo mainly because of the stability to be honest. The suds keep going a lot more compared to a normal shampoo from my experience. Plus I really liked using an IK foamer to apply the product onto the wheels and it works out a bit cheaper than in the bucket. For well maintained wheels the difference will be less noticeable though, but it’s the same price as a normal shampoo so I’m happy to have separate products for each use. I’ve just got some HDD Brake Through Wheel Shampoo as well so I’ll be working on a comparison of those two over the next couple of months!

    • @kwl189
      @kwl189 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AutoCareHQ Ah okay. Yes auto wash is not really a good shampoo for foam either. BH products are not show off products. They’re functional and focus on doing the job well.
      Oh so you use the IK foamer to put the GT shampoo on the wheels? Interesting take on it. I struggle maintaining the wheels. Yes well priced is GT stuff. Heard good things about HDD brake through shampoo as well. Should make a good video.

    Excellent video, i have been considering an IK sprayer for a while but have not been 100% convinced i need one until this video. The cost saving alone over time will pay for the sprayer plus its nice to have different cleaning options. A couple of other benefits are occasionally i like to reduce the jet washer noise (reduced snow canon use) when neighbours are in their garden and this could also be useful when going on holiday with limited gear to safely clean the car. Best wishes.

    • @kwl189
      @kwl189 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s why I’ve moved towards a sprayer now. The cost is far more in a foam canon and aside from worrying about the solution drying out on the paintwork in the summer there’s no benefit to snow foaming over soaking the surface through. Even then the surface is easy to keep wet using the pressure washer to create mist.

    Thank you so much for working out PIR in the pump foamer. I'm an enthusiast living in an apartment so I can't have the setup needed for a foam cannon. I'll use the IK Foam Pro to apply Touchless (rather than Auto foam) and this helps me know exactly how much to use!

    • @Ally.MacMillan
      @Ally.MacMillan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's very easy to work out the PIR for any pump sprayer or pump foamer, or indeed foam cannon.
      All you need to do first is to decide how much total volume you need to cover the car. Let's say 1000ml in a pump sprayer, and you want 4% PIR, that's 1000 x 0.04 and now you you have your required amount of product then, which in this case is 40ml product to 960ml water. hope that makes sense.
      For normal ratios, let's say 1:8 and you are still using 1000ml total.
      1:8 = 9 parts total. Divide 1000 by 9, which gives you 111ml product, so that leaves 889ml water, these can be rounded up or down for easiness.

      It doesn’t dwell when you use in a foamer either, lets be honest. It’s simply not designed to stay on the car that long. I really couldn’t care much for that stuff. I’m not concerned with instagram photos. I’m concerned with results. If it doesn’t dwell but comes straight off with as much film as possible, take my money. Leave the fancy pools of snow foam that dwell for long periods of time like polar blast from AG which lingered forever on my drive, for someone else to video and post. You can use autofoam in a sprayer. Many people do as it’s cheaper to apply that way than expensive foam canons. Ask BH themselves. Easy to call up and ask. They say the same. It can be applied in a sprayer.

      @@AutoCareHQ IK foamer would knackered your arms. They’re best used for wheels and engine bays or even door shuts I guess. I don’t even think they were designed to be used in the way the other person is suggesting. At best, they’ll be useful to spray the lower bottom of the car if the panels are particularly dirty in the winter and then covered with autofoam on top.

    The rear of that Renault wasn't 'reasonably dirty' at all, it looked very clean already.
    Snow foam works best on heavy stuck on dirt not thin grime anyway, by eating into the particles and breaking them down. Grime really only gets removed by TFR unless you contact clean with a mitt, but I'm sure you know that already.
    Try the same test on a car which is actually dirty next time, I'll be interested to see the results.
    Cost effective ?
    Hmmm tbh I think if you are really into detailing then most don't really give a shit about making products last as long as possible. I guess it's a bit of a waste, unless you are a professional detailer in which case yes everything has to be maxed out when it comes to cost of resources verses charge to customer.
    For hobbyists I don't think they care. I don't. I use a 50/50 mix of hot tap water and Bilt Hamber auto foam in my foam lance and fill the whole street with it.
