- Sharing with you a car meet with a Honda Civic Type R FL5, a Toyota GR Yaris, and my Honda S2000 AP2. It's amazing to see these three iconic cars together side by side, and I had the opportunity to carry out a quick comparison review of the Type R and the GR Yaris. They are both great performance cars from Honda and Toyota, let us know in the comments section which one do you think is the one to own?

Sonic grey looks good! Is the camera showing the colour as you would see it with the naked eye? That slight blue in it looks cool. Not sure I could pick up on any of the pearl effect when you did the close up.
Now I'm considering changing my order from white to grey... but black is good too. First world problems!
Yes, the camera shows the actual color quite well, it has a very distinctive blue hue to the grey. You can still change your color choice after you place an order?
@@sundaymorningdrives I think I can up until the car begins production. But it could be risky and delay my order if there’s any administrative mishaps. So I’ll play it safe and stick with white. Due February 2023!

I've got both FK8 and GR Yaris but in different country. FK8 shines more at higher speed (200kmh++). It's just more stable due to aero and longer wheel base. Shorter wheel base of the GR makes it more agile especially when you cut up traffic. That AWD really comes in handy in that situation. You can cut traffic with FK8 as well but you have to be more calculated doing so. Yes, these are illegal and deadly speeds.
FK8 is more comfortable and quieter as a touring car. You hear quite a bit of road noise more than you do in the FK8. I imagine it should be even more comfortable in the FL5 with better insulation and much improved adjustable suspension.
I like the shifter on the FK8 way more than GR Yaris shifter. It's lighter but can be easy to miss when driving aggressively. It's less tiring in day to day life. GR stiff shifter is perfect for aggressive driving but can be slightly more tiring as a result.
My GR yaris is a used car. Not sure if it's just my car but the clutch work requires you to slightly tap the gas pedal to move from stop. You go without adding more gas but the car will vibrate like crazy if you attempt to rush it. It works if you are super gentle with it though. I stalled it way more than I did with the FK8. FK8 clutch is very user friendly since the day I bought it new. No need to add gas at all.
I can't heel toe on both car. I need to get acuity pedal adjuster or whatever it's called for the FK8. It works flawlessly. I haven't yet bought one for the GR Yaris. Forgot the name of the maker. I got spoiled by the IMT haha. It's worth noting that FK8's auto rev match does not work below 2k rpm while IMT does.
FK8 feels confident and stable even at almost top speed (26X). I can't say for the GR Yaris as I have not attempted to do it here since the law is way tougher. I believe GR Yaris high speed stability can be improved via additional aero work.
I drive FK8 extensively. I think the mileage is at 26k km. While my seat time in the GR Yaris is about 1k km. My current lifestyle and place just do not give me the same space and time that had in the other country.

@@sundaymorningdrives I'm way too busy with my degree at the moment. Maybe if I have some time off, then I'll schedule a track day.
Right now it's just do it all car. Although, I drive short distance around 2-3times a week where I drive long distance almost everyday with my FK8.

Is the smart card key standard on the Type R? Also, did the red carpet mats come with the car or optional extra?
Both the card key and red Carpets are standard in the NZ Spec, we don't get to choose any spec here 😆, what about your market?
@@sundaymorningdrives I’m not sure about the smart card and I t seems that we may not get the red carpets as there are optional packs that includes black carpets with Type R logo. Check out the Honda Australia website if you are interested in the OZ spec! I have preordered one for February delivery…hopefully l get it!
Got my own on Saturday in the states. Red carpet does come with the car.

FL5 still looks sporty but more elegant compared to the very aggressive FK8. Which would you say you prefer between the FL5 and FK8?
I would definitely choose the FL5 styling over the FK8, it's definitely more refined and better designed. What do you think of the GR Yaris compared to the FL5?

I believe even Japan doesn't get key card as a key. USDM CTR has no parking sensor and I'm glad that New Zealand Market has them.
All we are missing is the bose audio system 😄, but we are lucky to get the other options as standard

Very thin, maybe 2.5 credit cards stacked together, why don't you like the card key?

Here in UK the fl5 is £47000. ..ive just landed a new yaris for £36k . Honda uk have made a huge mistake in the UK market pricing most customers out .
Ya, it is expensive for sure, and in the US most of them even have huge markups on them which is pretty sad... I thought the GR Yaris is out of production and you can't get any brand new anymore? 🤔
Top spec CTR will be over 50k - my top spec GR was 34k. 16k price difference and I'll show the CTR a clean pair of heals any day

@@sundaymorningdrives I don’t like to keep cars for too long to avoid depreciation. I know the civic is limited and so will hold price really well! That’s the second reason. The first reason is that I’m a Honda fanboy and had the fk8 before the Yaris and really miss the driving dynamics of the wider bigger civic. Yes it’s more convenient being four door and larger, but it’s not my daily so that’s not too much of a concern, it’s really about the driving dynamics , shift and steer , that engine ! Yaris is no slouch but I feel the three cylinder runs out of puff quicker. The awd though makes me feel like a superhero even in wet! And it’s more comfortable being higher and softer sprung. Ideally I’d keep both, or maybe get a grc and the new civic together. But I’m no millionaire sadly

Uhhh... the Yaris is way too small to be a suitable car for the average adult. Cars that are not too big or too small are more suitable on average.

The Yaris will easily beat the Civic off the line, will easily beat it to 60 and will easily beat it in the quarter mile. The Yaris will beat the Type R in any track scenario where the road is wet or damp. The Yaris will easily win on any B road or rally stage. If you tune the Yaris, every extra hp is useable due to permanent AWD, where as it's pointless on the Type R because it's wasted on FWD. It's basically twice the car that the Type R is. The Type R is what you buy if you can't get your hands on the Yaris.
So you're a Yaris fan then, do you like the GR Corolla as well?
