the Wachowski's actually knew that the whole 'humans as batteries' thing wasn't scientifically sound, and had initially conceived that the machine were using humans as a basis for some sort of mesh network to extend their computing power. The batteries thing was inserted instead because people higher up thought that it was an unnecessarily confusing detail on top of an already confusing movie, and the Wachowski's let it go because it was just a plot device and not what they were most interested in exploring with their film.

An ancient Chinese text written by Daoist philosopher Zhuangzi during the late Warring States period (476-221 BCE), a story tells that Zhuang Zi once dreamed he was a butterfly, flitting and fluttering around, happy, and doing as he pleased. As a butterfly, he did not know he was Zhuang Zi. All of a sudden, he awoke and found he was Zhuang Zi, solid and unmistakably human.

As soon as we build the technology possible to simulate the universe, we had better not turn it on, because that would answer the question for the super-intelligence, and they would probably shut down the computer program, ending our universe lol

The battery metaphor could well be true.
Some theories suggest that there are entities that feed off fear, anger, hate, frustration, depression - the energy these emotions create.
Plus, people are far easier to control, if they are fearful and depressed.
If true, it would make sense why the planet's controllers would keep us in this state, much of the time.
And keeping the Muggles slaving away so that an elite few can live in obscene luxury, with no need to even lift a finger, unless they wish to, certainly seems to be part of the overall plan.

    • @luissanchez2428
      @luissanchez2428 ปีที่แล้ว

It sounds to me like a lazy way to explain away things. It's too simple. The world is way too complex and we should embrace not knowing. it's ok to try to understand it and to create assumptions but this one is just too simple. At best it explains one or two things but they are many more things that does not explain. No matrix or simulation ideas can explain the metaphysical concept of ideas, the mind, feelings, values, love and many more. It can't also explain the laws governing the cosmos and how the atom behaves the way it does. I understand that there is another dimension for there is seems to be hints of it. Just the fact that I can conceive ideas that are beyond what the physical world can explain it's kind of a proof of that, but the simulation idea is not the one. A spiritual dimension is more likely than that. Of that dimension, we do have an extensive historical record, through ancient civilizations and the impact of religion. We can't yet experiment or even explain this spiritual dimension but there seems to be a lot of evidence of that.

I can’t see a valid argument agains the three premises, though. In fact, the bleakest - we wipe ourselves out with some great filter type event - is IMO the only chance we don’t end up running simulations when possible.
And it will be possible. We see the world as incredibly complex, but there’s nothing saying it hasn’t already been simplified in countless ways.

I always find it interesting that the newest prevailing idea of what reality is for humans is based on the latest technology. The first humans worshiped animals for their strength and power. After we developed farming, humans valued a higher intelligence known as God, because we lacked the technology to explain our natural world. Now that we live in the technological age, we see that A.I. has the potential to be God, in a sense that it has the power to can create realities. It makes me wonder what the next form of evolution will be, after computers and A.I. If A.I. is just a machine that can solve small problems at an infinite scale, I would guess that the next step is a technology that doesn't just solve problems but is able to ask the right questions.

Your physical reflection, that you view in the mirror is no more than an analogue simulation, yet we consider ourselves to be gaining consciousness at the time we recognise our reflection as our self.

thoughts like these used to frighten me. but i came to the conclusion that it doesnt matter. if there is only 1 percent chance that feelings like pain and joy are real to others as well, consequence must be focusing all energy towards the elimination of suffering. the main issue with the world for me is that although the consensus is that reality is real, some people STILL choose to be bad (well, it has a lot to do with our mode of production, ideology etc, but you get the jist)

The Truth (with a capital "T") is actually very good news. And fear is your only enemy. We ARE living in a simulated reality. HOWEVER, this simulation is not generated by a lifeless electronic computer. This matrix simulation is generated by - and within - the SOURCE of Life Itself! Want to know all of the details, including why your experience of this simulation became necessary? And how to get out of it? "The Book of God" at the website A Course in Truth. It's nothing you've heard before. And when science and religion find absolute Truth, they will find the exact same Thing - like I have.

I was struck by lightning, and I thought I would be dead, but things changed after that event. I can transform my body into anything I want. My strength is limitless, and I can jump whatever the height is. My body becomes invincible; I can live without food and water. I can fly too. I make myself anonymous on TH-cam so that no one will know me. I'm not sure who I am now. A hero or a villain? I still feel the emotions as a human being: fear, anger, happiness, and excitement, but I can control them. Any advice?
What does it means? Doest it means that I have already acquired the digital locus in the matrix itself where I have completely crossed the digital limitation or boundaries of the scheme? PLEASE I NEED YOUR ADVICE

Resolving ethical questions around suffering should be dealt with first. It's time to stop blaming God of Satan for all the suffering humans experience, particularly to admit that humanity, or the so-called human-condition, is the cause of suffering (including that Buddhist problem of desire). This is not a simple problem. If we are going to create a virtual world, then we are going to become The Creators; and if there will be no way to escape that world, then those suffering there will blame its creators the way so many today blame God or Satan.

Like how Machines and programs merely a simulations on a computer can do calculations and stuffs faster than us. And if we are under a simulation ourselves .Then is it possible that we are smarter than the higher beings (gods?). And Does the calculations get faster as we go to lower levels of simulation(simulation inside simulation inside simulation....)?
Also, We are sort of good at generalizing tons of stuffs while computers are good at accuracy and precision.
Them maybe Gods are worse than us at accuracy but much better than generalizing stuffs. And with each each level decrease inside simulation, the accuracy increases but the scope of result also become specialized.

True, we are in a simulation and it is actually very similar in concept to the movie " The Matrix." There is supposedly another reality of actual bodies jacked in to an AI feeding these life simulations. Some of these people are on vacation and having a good time, others are just non-playable characters (NPC.) and are having miserable time. And yes, this is a play to win game, a very serious game indeed. Very much like Free City! All we can take with us is the experiences.

You have to dumb your mind down a lot to believe it, but sure. Being in the metaverse can (in theory) be exactly the same as in real life. With the right gear and dull enough senses or spot check as we would say in D&D. If your spot check is really terrible then why wouldn't it seem and feel like real life?
That's my goal in -life- metalife.
And it was the same as when I stepped onto this platform as well. Just like GLaDOS said, it was just a test. once you step onto the next platform, you'll see.

Some food for thought. Lets assume simulating another universe is a natural step for advanced civilizations to take. Even a simulated universe would evolve to a point where it can simulate a universe. We could be anywhere on this chain of simulations, but since we are unable to simulate a complete universe yet we can assume that we are either first or last on the chain of simulations. 50/50 chance we are simulation.

  • @futurehofer1564

No we are not, the odds of that being true are super small and also if any civilization ever simulated us they would have to have had developed a crazy amount of computing power, considering there is no computer today as powerful as our brain and there would be 7 *billion* of these being simulated.
As someone told Neil DeGrasse Tyson, we are either the first ones being simulated or we are the ones down the line of tons of simulations that still havent figured out how to simulate, which the odds of that would be super small.
It would be super funny though if we were indeed in a simulation and whoever is simulation is reading my comment as "ha so dumb" lol
