    I like how you guys agree or disagree on this sequel. I like the movie because the Strahm vs Hoffman was good and I enjoyed it. Great review guys, you did a great job on this review. Can't wait for more.

    Also fun fact: the whole wall crush death was thought up by the director's kid :)

    Wow you guys just lowkey solved a very old memory of mine I was trying to remember. That small clip of James Remar with a monster got me to look up his filmography, and figure out that clip from a Tales from the Darkside film. I remember watching that as a kid and neeeeeever could I remember what it was from until now.
    Thanks guys :D

      One of the most interesting from that anthology.
      I have one Ive actually dug into and can't find. In that same film (tales from the dark side there is a cat that kills a dude in a very gruesome way in a mansion, and cat stories are common in anthologies, but I recall a killer cat in one that kills Buster Pointdexters in a similar way but while driving a car (there is a car death in that one but not the same) and then the story ends. Maybe as a kid my mind comingled Buster Pointdexters death and a previous one and I've just Mandelad myself.
      Those anthologies tend to be especially hard to sus out if you catch a glimpse.
      I also walked in on the shunting scene in society as a kid and it was just a weird semi blocked memory for 20 years, if you've seen that scene you will understand how it could mess with you lol.

      @@aaronjustice9020Oh, God, I can only imagine walking in on Society as a youngster. I had a weird habit of walking in on my parents’ movie rentals at the absolute worst moment (Pulp Fiction when Mia gets the needle to the chest, and another where a strange man sinks into a large body of water whilst screaming obscenities - scared the shit out of me. I would later find out that this man was someone who had become one of my all-time favorite actors, the legendary Bobby De Niro, and the movie was Cape Fear. I felt betrayed when I finally saw it, like Bobby had been my boogeyman the whole time.)
      I wish I could help you with Buster, but I think you may be right about the Mandela Effect. The only other horror anthology I see in his filmography is Campfire Stories. I’ve seen the first 10-15 minutes and it’s, uh, not good.

    This was the first to show the detriment of rushing sequels this way, they went with bigger productions but took less time to properly develop the script and characters, while the traps and locations look great, the history is convoluted and you don't care about anything.

    I went to see the “SAW FEST” in 2008 which played Saw 1 through 4, ending with a midnight screening of Saw V. I can’t describe how exciting it was to marathon the whole series in a movie theatre

  • @jackshepard1203

    I have to side with Ian on this. Saw V was also my favorite of the series. The traps were interesting and I liked the backtracking of tying up story threads from the previous films. Agent Strahm was my favorite character of the series and it was hard to see him be eliminated in such a gruesome way. I remember watching that ending scene in the theater and I shouted to myself...nooo!!!

    That plot lines of these latter ones with someone continuing post jigssaw death and unwinnable traps hadnt alreadh been been done ins a softer version of Amandas traps in 3.
    I have enjoyed watching a few of the saw series breakdowns and timeline explanations though even if i kindve bailed on the series a few in after really liking one.
    Enjoy the channel. Probably watch this and RLM more than anything else on YT by a wide margin.

    It's supposed to be some kind of gotcha at the end that Strahm doesn't follow the rules and get into the glass coffin at the end, but we know Hoffman doesn't have the same code John does and makes plenty of unwinnable traps, so what motivation would Strahm have to know that the directions are honest?

    This is actually where I stopped watching Saw. Gary's whole opinion and views on it, is exactly why I don't like Saw 5 either. The good parts were the traps and kills, and as always, seeing Tobin Bell as Jigsaw is always a treat to see! The traps get better and better, while the story just goes off hill. Thanks Iain, for understating people like me who don't like the movie! On the other hand, I'm glad you enjoyed it man! I'm happy you got something out of it! Great review guys!

    I like this one quite a bit, even though it serves more of a bridge between saw 4 and 6. I would say this one serves as a way of connecting Hoffman to the story. You have to give credit to the series for being able to introduce new characters in established story

    Gary is right. This was the point in the Saw series where I initially gave up. However, I did go and finish Saw 6, and Saw 7 a few years ago. I HATED those two films even more. The only good parts were the scenes with Jigsaw. Saw X was great as well.

  • @nihilismistheonlyway4680

    I knew instantly when they killed off Tobin it was a bad idea. The guy IS Jigsaw! Just like Tony Todd will always be Candyman. Robert Englund will always be Freddy. Brad Dourif will always be Chucky!!!

    • @gRinchY-op5vr
      @gRinchY-op5vr ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They made Jigsaw and Saw X because they regretted killing off the character I think, they knew damn well flashbacks weren't going to cut it forever and bringing him back from the dead after an autopsy scene isn't possible without some supernatural stuff going on and face it the Saw franchise doesn't need to go in that direction

    As Hoffman is my favourite Saw character, 4, 5 and 6 are just a lovefest for me. The producers actually called it the Hoffman Trilogy. What a shame The Final Chapter was such a turd 😀

  • @ridleyrage5283
    @ridleyrage5283 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great in depth one, guys! This is my favorite Saw film, just for the psychology of it; how quickly we'd hurry to save ourselves, not even thinking about working together to complete what are, some very escapable traps, only made harder by having fewer people. Also, Seth Baxter did NOT complete his task, I keep reminding everyone; Hoffman tells him to crush his hands to dust, which he can't bring himself to do (due to the pain). He only wounds them, only to pull them out, before the "pendulum" slices through his abdomen.
    EDIT: Holy shit! Paul, is played by Mike Butters, the Pepsi drinking guy from the Pepsiman game!!

    There are no innocent people in SAW traps. So, what criminal acts did the the first three do? Gordon seemed to be overworked. He had marital problems. So what? Adam was doing his job. The hell did Zep do? As far I remember not one of them had even done anything they should be in jail for. Let alone something they deserved to be tortured/killed for.
    And the medical one, is it 6?, is littered with innocents.
    And Jeff never had to fight for his own life. And wasn't Jeff's kid dying actually an accident? Also, what did the daughter do? She was kidnapped, too.
    One of the traps in Riggs game is an abused housewife needing to pull pipes out of her own body so that her husband dies. Which I'm pretty sure you're not even supposed to do. From what I understand pulling objects out makes you bleed faster.
    Amanda was a drug addict. I think that's all she did.
    Some are innocents, some are just in need of help.
    As a franchise SAW is enjoyable if you don't really think about it. Like slashers. And the more you think about it, you more you understand how genuine horrific John Kramer's operation actually is.
    This could've been actually terrifying. Get under your skin and live there. But even in the first movie, 'the message' is muddied. People that can this torture porn are correct. Its also dumb.
