I have a 28 year old son. He has a rare syndrome. He will be with us till the end. When his older brother moved out we turned their two rooms into one-ish. In his brother's room we walled up the door. Took one of the closets out between the rooms. Made his brother's old room a game room/private living room. Harley's original bedroom has a TV. Half of the closet walk through has a mini fridge, microwave, and cabinet.
I have no plans of getting rid of the house. If, I do. I can open the door in the wall back up and fix the closet.
I want him to feel like he has a home of his own. The stroke he had at eighteen months old during his second open heart surgery really made it hard for him to live alone.
Long story short. We don't care about resale. We want what fits our needs. 😊

There are two things that I can see are positives in this video about this house purchase:
    1. Due to the expense of replacing the HVAC and the huge plumbing repairs: It’s good the house was a lower price, so it may have compensated some.
    2. Good thing you didn’t end up donating the house to a charity, that would have been overwhelming for them to deal with, especially if they had some in the house they were caring for, and who would have suffered during a time without water & sewer.
All around, things ended up better the way they happened!
The end result looks really good. The kitchen is much lighter & brighter now. Also, I think that the kitchen cabinet and drawer handles are more efficient pointing up. You can hook your fingers in them easier and not hit the paint with your fingers. Plus there is that micro second of time saved since they are a tiny bit closer to you hand as you reach for them.
FYI: I hear you talk about people subscribing to your channel. For a long time I never subscribed to anyone. But when I saw yours, you were cleaning a house an old man and his girlfriend lived in…it was so awful, and you cleaned the old dog stuff off the floors and got all their stuff out. It was such a change, I decided THIS was worth subscribing to, so I did.
Then I found others like your channel and have enjoyed them very much. Besides, I have learned cleaning tips, which we can all benefit from. Thanks! This was a great video, and I wish I had your energy and endurance! Can’t wait to see the kitchen with the new countertops! Please don’t forget to update this job with a part 2, or sequel, when you continue and finally finish the kitchen….also, don’t forget: We want to see the new floors when you get them installed. 😊

@@Princess.Babosa We just redid our kitchen, and I fought with my husband about the cabinets. We both agreed on Shaker style doors, but I wanted a colored frame and door insert, with white on the outside of the doors. He wanted all white. We compromised -- we made sure to get paintable cabinets, so WHEN we get sick of the all white, we can paint them a different color.
But the countertops -- they are the most gorgeous reddish-brown on a cream background granite. I had never seen granite like it, and knew it was what I had to have. And it was cheap!

Hi there, my friend or whatever. I mean, we aren't really friends. We haven't gone out for coffee with you and our better halves. I can't really call you an Amigo either. So welll I digress. I enjoy watching you help others and yourself at the same time. Not the same time of day...well, you know what i mean, right? When I was a kid, I too knew something was wrong with me because when I would go over to a friend's house, I mean like a real friend, that I knew and visited with in person, unlike our friendship or whatever, so suck it)our, meaning you and me ppl. Anyway, if my friend's mom was a terrible and I mean terrible housekeeper, I would clean the stove and dishes and counters, so on, while we visited. I only stopped when mom called me home. And always when I returned, it was like I was never there, so I started over. I've gotta tell you something my husband of 40 years asked me when we were newly weds. He asked, "Do you have a spring in your butt because you can't sit down for 5 minutes!" He would also say, "Why do you have to clean constantly?" You keep working, and since I joined your channel, I will just watch.
All kidding aside, I think what you do and who you are is fantastic. Be bless, Jeannap53

I'm glad you are remodeling and using a color palette that you like. I have a 1953 small house that was renovated (using that term loosely) in the 70's and then my husband bought it in the early 80's and did nothing to it. After he passed away in 97, the house became mine and I started a long remodel process of one room per year. Saved all year and had enough to pay for one room at a time. I like Craftsman style architecture so I've been emulating that with lots of wood trim, cabinets, flooring. My walls are all a very pale green and my splash color is hunter green. Not for everyone but I love my little house and have no plans of moving without a major battle if it comes to that.

Many years ago I had a house in Orlando. The kitchen is a galley kitchen that's between the dining room and the garage, a centered window, a pantry and tiled floor. The cabinets were the same color as yours originally were. Being a scenic artist/faux finisher and prop fabricator (retired now) I decided to paint the cabinets and the walls. The kitchen has twenty doors not counting the pantry door. I started out cleaning them with TSP (Trisodium phosphate) because the cabinet doors near the stove had years of gunk and grease on them. I got tired of cleaning them so I removed the doors and sanded them. The doors and cabinets themselves were primed twice and I painted them with a satin color called French Vanilla. I think I used Valspar. Good paint. The cabinet doors had a 'frame' on them so after the paint dried I did a faux finish on them in sage green. The faux finish looked like stripes but was more a dragging look. The doors and drawers didn't have handles on them so I went on Ebay and to flea markets and bought pieces of fancy antique silverware. My then husband drilled holes in the top and bottom then bent the pieces. I used machine screws to install them. The window in the kitchen had that curvy piece over it like your window has. From that curvy piece I hung a stained glass panel and the sun would shine through it at a particular time of the year. So nice.
My ex installed new counter tops that I picked out from Lowe's. I LOVED that kitchen and was so proud of the way it looked. I painted the walls a warm red that looked great and I painted the adjacent dining room in the same color. My ex and I decorated the house in vintage and antique pieces so it all looked cohesive.
Years later my ex and I separated and moved on and someone bought the house. When I met her she showed me what she had done to the house and I was mortified. She had painted all of the cabinets and doors black. I had spent months upon months doing a faux finish in the living room on two walls of fake rocks and tediously hand painted each one to look real. The woman painted over them with white paint. She painted the wainscotting below the rocks black. The wainscotting had been stained an earthy color. I was shocked but it wasn't my house any longer.
Now I live in the northern area of South Carolina and have a lot of kitchen cabinets. I'm debating if I want to paint them or not. They look nice the way they are because the man I bought the house from installed the cabinets new and stained them. I'm 70 years old and don't have the interest that I had long ago. A couple of years ago however, I painted the living room and dining room a nice light peanut butter color and I like it. I recently had laminate flooring installed in my office/computer room because the carpet that was in there was so awful and nasty. My little dog ruined it. I think this is all I'm doing to this house.
The house was renovated prior to me purchasing it and this is one of the reasons I bought it. Every room has crown molding and wide baseboards that the man and his wife painted gloss white. They even painted the fireplace mantel gloss white and I changed it. There was no hearth so I hired someone to build one and he did a really nice job. After stripping the white paint from the mantel I sanded it, primed it then stained it a dark brown color. It looks awesome. That project was a lot of work.
If I were younger I would redo the cabinets but I'm probably not going to do it. I think if I ever want to sell this house I should leave the cabinets alone.

New piping is great, we had an old pipe burst under our kitchen sink which ended up costing $70,000 to fix 😂. Water had travelled under the original floor around the entire kitchen, part of the living room and hallway, went into the insulation under the house. Original flooring was asbestos so had to get an abatement done (that alone was like $12,000). So we gutted to the underbelly, changed the insulation and subfloor, put in new flooring AGAIN across the entire kitchen/living room/hallway (we had just put in new vinyl planks a month prior, it wasn't great quality and wasn't reusable as the tabs that lock them together snapped no matter how careful the contractors were). Old kitchen cabinets were custom built in place so they had to rip out the bottom ones and well, may as well redo the top to match. New countertops, sink, faucet, redid the electrical in the kitchen as we changed the layout since we were there, new plumbing...3 weeks of hotel stays + pet boarding. I recently moved to a small village in East Central Illinois. I love the peace and quiet, and I love the community. When I go for walks I see that many homes have a two-car garage, a shed and an out-building or pole barn. These structures appear to be full of supplies, boxes and miscelanious things. Also, many of the homes appear to have additions to the original structure. And, some folks have piles of junk in their back yards. There are a lot of older people in this town, and I can't help wondering if they, or their parents, lived through the depression, and because of this, they are in the habit of saving everything.

I seriously appreciate a "shoe man". My man had 1 pair of work boots, 1 pair of dress shoes and 1 pair of sneakers. When sneakers got holes he fixed with duct tape...multiple times over a year. He bought a new pair sneakers every 12 to 18 months. Though I loved (and still do) my man beyond words, the duct tapes shoes drove me crazy! Amazing job on the kitchen!

That backsplash tile is perfect, really ties everything together. I personally liked the color of your cabinets before, but you are so right about keeping what makes you happy and redoing what doesn't. I also advocate putting as many holes in your walls to hang things as it takes. My house is my palace!

Anyone else's cat find this video particularly alluring?
I've never seen my female Maine Coon x Ragdoll so attentive to my laptop screen for so long in the over 7 years that she's been with me. I think it was at least 15 minutes solid that she was sitting bolt upright two feet from the screen and didn't tear her eyes away. She's never even done that to cat TV type videos with darting birds and squirrels. I was beginning to suspect subliminal ultra high frequency mouse - or possibly even moose - noises had been embedded in the sound track - either that or Mack's new status as a proud grandfather involved a feline-visible aura too fascinating to ignore (congrats, by the way).

Looks great !! I have painted my cabinets twice since I have lived in my home. I also didn’t have the guts to do the peel and stick to my counters. I just painted them. It’s so fun to watch your transformations. I wish I also had the guts to videotape myself. I love fixing things up around the house. I will tell you a little tid bit. I switched out my outlets to match the new paint. You can also buy covers without having to replace the actual outlet on Amazon. I did that to my son’s home. You just take off the old plate and pop that baby on there and you won’t even know there is an ivory or black outlet/switch behind the new plate/cover.Genius! Look them up. Also, congratulations on becoming a grandfather ! So exciting!
