A lot of people pick Hayden then Lanter because everyone grew up with Lanter as Anakin. With me though for second place is Mat Lucas because I grew up with him and he was the original voice of Anakin in the 2003 Clone Wars and original Star Wars video games.
It's the tone and certain paralinguistic cues. Vader often spoke in very hyperbolic sentences and held quite a serious presence, listen closely to Anakin in episode 3 and you'll notice it. There's a direct reference to one of Vader's lines too: when Anakin says "don't make me kill you." it's similar to the way Vader said "don't make me destroy you." to Luke. Plus the way he says "power", emphasising the last half of the word to exaggerate the presence of the word. There are more examples, just gotta wade through the shit to find them.

Hayden tried. When you have a higher pitched voice and your character is supposed to complain, the script turns against you. Hayden just sounds too young to be Anakin.

It's cheaper to find some nobody to wear the suit than to pay Hayden to wear it. He is too short to play Vader as well, according to his interview in behind the scenes footage for the movie.

Stefan Rodriguez I do wish Disney would go back and fix the prequels by doing a voice over dub with Matt Lanter's voice. Same dialogue, different voice. I have nothing against Hayden's, it's just that Matt's Anakin voice sounds so much more mature and dark due to its much deeper tone. Also, due to the larger prominence of Matt's voice in canon, it'd make much more sense in a consonant manner.

Hayden was fantastic as Anakin. Its the dialogue that screwed him over. I mean, watch the scene where he marches to the Jedi Temple, the one where he’s about to kill younglings, and the one where he slaughters the Separatist. No words, but pure badassery.
Matt Lanter delivered the line. Hayden Christensen delivered the expression and aesthetics. If Hayden got better vocal directions and found a way to deliver his lines like Matt did, I think Hayden would've been the be-all-end-all Anakin Skywalker. I honestly don't dislike him. I enjoyed his performance in Revenge of the Sith. But Matt Lanter gave Anakin's character much more maturity and a stronger presence that lived up to his legacy as the Jedi hero Luke was told about from Obi-Wan.

It provided world expansion and interesting aliens that would be too much of a hassle to create physically. Watto for example was one of my favorite characters in episode one simply because he had an entertaining dynamic with Qui Gon, and his animation made him look fairly real. I also enjoyed Qui Gon's midichlorians speech in episode one, I thought it gave a more interesting scientific explanation to the force and honestly don't understand why the "fans" were so heated about it.

It was he who inadvertently started a fight with Sebulba, which led to Anakin intervening and meeting Qui Gon and crew. He also helped Qui Gon and Obi Wan to safety by leading them to the Gungan city, not to mention greatly damaging the droid army, and filling in for Padme when she was in hiding. To say he was "useless" simply because you and a large subset of fans found him irritating is bias and stupid.

Darth Venar he did a great job with what he was given, specially in Ep 3. He was just written poorly. Other than Palpatine and Obi Wan, every other character suffered from a bad script and terrible direction.

Out of all his representation of anakin is of the best! The Clone Wars did well and better on doing better and making up on what the prequals either left out or did bad at.
Christensen definitely improved in RoTS but the writing for him was still terrible and his delivery was wonky and unconvincing in some of the most important parts. Matt Lanter on the other hand did a fantastic job for the Clone Wars and pretty much saved the character imo.
Michael Snow that's the advantage of having an actual series to be able to develop a character rather than just a 2 and a half hour movie where it's just characters getting from point A to point B - the Clone Wars series not only had the benefit of time to develop but also hindsight to fix what people had issues with before, so inevitably it would be better. I guarantee if they were to do something with Anakin Skywalker now with a new director, they can easily re-defined the characte, even with Hayden Christensen back in the role because directors and writers now know what went wrong and how to fix it. hindsight is 20/20
Michael Snow Matt Lanter is the Best Actor for Anakin. I agree. But some parts Hayden acted well. What about the part where Obi-Wan asks Anakin to spy on the Chancellor? "You're asking me to do something against the Jedi Code, against the Republic, against a Mentor, and a Friend, that's what's out of place here. Why are you asking this of me?" That Line is pretty Good. Especially when he says "Why are you asking this of me?" He gets so Angry there. He starts becoming very Vader-like there. I am pointing out that some of his acting was good. I still prefer Matt Lanter though and I like The Clone Wars better than the Prequels but not all of Hayden's lines were bad.
Hayden is the best for sure. He is the closest to Vader s later speaking tempo. Matt Lanter is a close second because his voice is low, and this gives the Dark dangerous edge. Other then those two, the other did not work at all!

The original trilogy scripts weren't written by him (apart from A New Hope, which was saved in editing), and he essentially had free reign with the prequels. All of the dialogue from most characters feels unnatural and forced - it's likely because of poor actor directing as well. None of the actors are particularly bad, they're just very poorly used. This is coming from someone who absolutely loves the prequels.

Lucian Ganea The voice, ehh. Darth Vader had a voice modifier (I think) to make him more intimidating. But the character not at all. Who is more likely to turn to the dark side? An edgy, insecure teen or a caring battle hero admired by many? I think Anakin was made to be that way because it is more believable that he would turn. Yes, TCW Anakin faced problems, too but Hayden's portrayal of Anakin was truly the troubled Anakin. He lost what made him, him (Padmé, his limbs, The Jedi Order, the ability to function without cybernetics) and became the hardened villain we know and love today. Also this is just my opinion here, but Hayden actually sounds like a 23 year old.
Eugene Asanya Lanter's portrayal of Anakin makes his fall so much more tragic, in retrospect. Besides, his persona fits perfectly with the way old Ben described him to be in A New Hope.

I believe that with proper guidence, Hayden can be a great anakin once again if Disney wishes to have him in the new films as a force ghost or whatever. anytime I think of anakin, I think of Hayden. I hope he comes back for the new films in some way!

Hayden tried. When you have a higher pitched voice and your character is supposed to complain, the script turns against you. Hayden just sounds too young to be Anakin.

It's cheaper to find some nobody to wear the suit than to pay Hayden to wear it. He is too short to play Vader as well, according to his interview in behind the scenes footage for the movie.

Hayden was fantastic as Anakin. Its the dialogue that screwed him over. I mean, watch the scene where he marches to the Jedi Temple, the one where he’s about to kill younglings, and the one where he slaughters the Separatist. No words, but pure badassery.
Matt Lanter delivered the line. Hayden Christensen delivered the expression and aesthetics. If Hayden got better vocal directions and found a way to deliver his lines like Matt did, I think Hayden would've been the be-all-end-all Anakin Skywalker. I honestly don't dislike him. I enjoyed his performance in Revenge of the Sith. But Matt Lanter gave Anakin's character much more maturity and a stronger presence that lived up to his legacy as the Jedi hero Luke was told about from Obi-Wan.

It provided world expansion and interesting aliens that would be too much of a hassle to create physically. I also enjoyed Qui Gon's midichlorians speech in episode one, I thought it gave a more interesting scientific explanation to the force and honestly don't understand why the "fans" were so heated about it.

Meh, he was the standard clumsy jester character that you see in most stories. It was he who inadvertently started a fight with Sebulba, which led to Anakin intervening and meeting Qui Gon and crew. He also helped Qui Gon and Obi Wan to safety by leading them to the Gungan city, not to mention greatly damaging the droid army, and filling in for Padme when she was in hiding. To say he was "useless" simply because you and a large subset of fans found him irritating is bias and stupid.

Hayden will always be Anakin for me. Physically, he's perfect for the role. He sure knows how to glare. And his voice is fine, he actually matches the voice for Darth Vader. Michael Snow that's the advantage of having an actual series to be able to develop a character rather than just a 2 and a half hour movie where it's just characters getting from point A to point B - the Clone Wars series not only had the benefit of time to develop but also hindsight to fix what people had issues with before, so inevitably it would be better. I guarantee if they were to do something with Anakin Skywalker now with a new director, they can easily re-defined the characte, even with Hayden Christensen back in the role because directors and writers now know what went wrong and how to fix it. hindsight is 20/20

"You're asking me to do something against the Jedi Code, against the Republic, against a Mentor, and a Friend, that's what's out of place here. Why are you asking this of me?" That Line is pretty Good. Especially when he says "Why are you asking this of me?" He gets so Angry there. He starts becoming very Vader-like there. I am pointing out that some of his acting was good. I still prefer Matt Lanter though and I like The Clone Wars better than the Prequels but not all of Hayden's lines were bad.

Prime OGgaming anything to do with sand, and it’s not that hard to fix, the original trilogy had a pretty good romantic story line with Han and Leia, so it’s not like lots of people that worked on the prequels, especially George Lucas didn’t have experience with that type of thing

The original trilogy scripts weren't written by him (apart from A New Hope, which was saved in editing), and he essentially had free reign with the prequels. All of the dialogue from most characters feels unnatural and forced - it's likely because of poor actor directing as well. None of the actors are particularly bad, they're just very poorly used. This is coming from someone who absolutely loves the prequels.

Lucian Ganea The voice, ehh. Darth Vader had a voice modifier (I think) to make him more intimidating. But the character not at all. Who is more likely to turn to the dark side? An edgy, insecure teen or a caring battle hero admired by many? I think Anakin was made to be that way because it is more believable that he would turn. Yes, TCW Anakin faced problems, too but Hayden's portrayal of Anakin was truly the troubled Anakin. He lost what made him, him (Padmé, his limbs, The Jedi Order, the ability to function without cybernetics) and became the hardened villain we know and love today. Also this is just my opinion here, but Hayden actually sounds like a 23 year old.

Lanter is the best voice but Haydens image was used for Clone Wars Anakin, Hayden was the perfect Anakin in terms of looks and physicallity but not his voice, or wooden acting for that matter (mostly George Lucas fault)

@@CraigFisherman It's such a shame it feels like we're the only ones left that grew up with Mat Lucas. This new generation of Star Wars fans doesn't acknowledge him as Anakin because they never grew up with him from the older Clone Wars shows or even the original Star Wars games with Anakin in it for that matter.
I prefer Mat Lucas to Matt Lanter, Lanter just makes Anakin sound like a generic frat boy chad.

For example, do you want everyone voice acting Joker to sound like Mark Hamil or would you rather they put their own spin on it?
