Great video! simple, direct, and very informative with some small straight points on explaining for what it is intended for each lead. The sad thing about it would had been great to make a video in general about all types of lead what is the difference and new lead technologies the aids to make it more resistant such as lightfast and other feature in lead innovation. Thanks for the video.

When it comes to having a Pentel pencil, I prefer 0.5 lead because it makes crisp and fine lines when writing.

To sexy, .5mm lead regardless of brand or new formula innovation such as “smudge resistant” leads are ideal for me when it comes to drawing/drafting/sketching. It makes me happy when I draw stuff. For me the .3mm is best for fine details. I’m a Mechanical pencils lover. I to I’m for traditional pencils for quality. :3

For writing I like 0.5 in 2B, for drawing and sketch it depends on the size of the piece and the detail I'm trying to achieve. I have pencils from 0.2 up to 5.6 mm, 9 different sizes including woodless graphite pencils but I only use about 4 at a time on a piece.
One thing to add is the graphite used in the leads is the same across all hardness scale, the difference is the amount of clay binder used to hold it together. More binder equals harder lead.

What do you mean by…ideal for students and heavy writers? I cant decide between 0.5 and 0.7. I like to use it for everyday writing and taking notes. Thanks!

i personally like .7 for writing. .5 feels perfect for drawing and 0.35 is quite nice too but less common it seems.

Sellers don't get used reporting graphite hardness using the pencil scale. You never know what you are buying. I wish I could buy a 10H lead. Does it exist? Would you mind reporting a comparison lead x pencil scale?

Hi, can you tell me what the 60mm reference on most of the lead packs is referring to? Is that total length of all 12 pieces? The leads are .05mm in your examples, correct?

The 60mm is referencing the length of each individual lead, and there are 12 leads in each tube. Yes, the majority of leads used in this video are 0.5mm diameter x 60mm long.

yes, 60mm is referring to how long the lead is

I've been trying to hunt down what lead Joe Fenton uses here: th-cam.com/video/f4ISS2YkweE/w-d-xo.html
It's absolutely BLACK (of course he combines with ink and tracing pens). But if you skip to minute 1:58 you will see the leads I mean.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Your video is excellent, buddy, except that you missed a big detail. The comparison of the shade of all together. Otherwise I see the first softer ones just the same color, no difference.
