Thanks! I'm now 3 months past my open heart surgery. I'm amazed at the improvement in everything, especially my breath. I do a lot of your meditations, but this was delightful. My breathing is perfect now, and this meditation encouraged me to fully appreciate and enjoy it!

Very good one, really grounding and soothing. One question: I never know if I should relax my abdomen or contract it. Breathing deeply makes me move many core muscles in diferent ways and always gets most of my attention trying to adjust these muscles aligned with my posture.
I have the opposite problem, the more am aware of my breath, the faster it (and my heartbeat) gets. It seems that my breath only starts to calm down and slow when I’m not focused on it or to manipulate it if I am focused on it. Any ideas to why this happens?
Try to make sure your out breath is just a bit longer and slower than your in breath. I've struggled with the same phenomena (especially when doing yoga or Pilates) and ended up hyperventilating and getting light-headed. The slower exhalation will allow more CO2 to stay in your system-it's the same premise as breathing into a paper bag. Another device I use is to notice that natural pause between the end of one breath and the beginning of another - and let that be as long as feels comfortable. Sounds weird, but I've come to really enjoy that peaceful little "break" from breathing. I hope you find this helpful.

I was experiencing shortness of breath due to my heart condition. The surgery allowed my breath to become steady and normal.

Maybe consider a mantra of “relax” on the exhale. 💜
