@@Spazzfrom.1989 Didn't he though? He fulfilled Elen's immediate wish and then finally monologued about his true desires, to take care of her and so forth (In contrast, Elen found it to be enough). Loved this song for a long time. It reminds me hard of AICO Reincarnation and their opening theme. Both songs sound so similar yet one faster as the other's slower. Both are amazingly well toned and the performers just...WOW
After watching this anime I had a ton of mixed emotions and didn’t really know how to feel about it! I’m happy to say that it definitely added to the experience as it made me think about it a ton even after I had finished watching it!
@@edwardelric4975 yeah, that's probably the oddest thing that the show did. I could believe it if she was older or if the timeskip had been longer but it was definitely a bit odd.
@@edwardelric4975 even after the explanation, that it's the Scythe doing it still feels way too odd. From a precious child, reason to go through shit of life to a ridiculously hot chick.
She understood early on that she was being used. Though Scythe Master goes on about Drei being his piece about "hatred", her behavior at the end shows that, deep down, that hatred never was fully deep. It was more so grievance that she felt Reiji abandoned her. That's what the dream sequence is all about, had they just noticed each other after the explosion, taken just one step different, things wouldn't have had to turn out they way they did. It's also why she was so upset with Reiji being in Japan as well as with Elen, both just emphasize the feeling of abandonment.
The writer really made it seem like they would love eachother more than brother and sister but apparently not the ending seemed rushed and doesn't make sense he starts liking this random school girl and I just have no words after this masterpiece ends like that I'm truly at a loss for words and a lot of anime follow this theme it really hurts my appreciation for Japanese anime writers
I like to think of it as no matter who reiji meets up specifically each woman he associates with, he will always come back to elen as they were made for each other, to go through thick and thin and to be one. I think somewhere in reiji, he knows elen will always be there for him and so as him for elen. Recall the episode reiji betraying inferno bc he wanted to escape with elen after she was shot in the thigh and he nursed her back. Specifically talking about the scene elen asked reiji something along the lines “didn’t you think I would escape when you were gone that long” and reiji responded “I knew you wouldn’t” It’s never really explicit in the anime that they love each other (probably for the sake of story for reiji to be in different relationships) but reiji has a lot of deep conversations with elen which proves a lot
Also totally agree with you on the tragic ending but if you think about it this way esp you tie it back to the opening song Karma, the title karma is like a metaphor of the ending. The phantoms are mass murderers who killed countless criminal figures and in the end they don’t deserve to live in happiness together
He likes a random school girl? I know you're referencing the one in season two, but he likes her? I view it at most as him trying to fit back into the normal world. She definitely likes him, but I never perceived Reiji as liking her in a sincere fashion. Edit: Also want to say, I'm unsure if by "ends like that" if you're referring to girl thing or if you're referring to the actual ending. If you're criticizing the actual ending, I must say, it is the most fulfilling ending I have honestly seen. Reiji's internal monologue at the end, and then Elen's internal monologue makes the bittersweetness peak perfectly.
