So for people who don't know, the true ending is that of the visual novel which the anime is based on, which is basically the same but they survive and live happily, the novel is called Phantom of Inferno and is written by the same person who wrote Psycho Pass, Gen Urobuchi
I played almost all versions of Vn in various ways completely. All routes. Its way better than anime in almost every way. Regarding to your comment i must add that yeah in visual novel's remake version, they tried to make it closer to anime so changed a few things in plot now and there and adapted the anime's character design. so there is a little trace of feeling in VN that ein's route is the main or canon route or true ending or anything you might call it. But in original and integration releases and also the hirameki's massacred version, witch is the only english subbed one, there is a phrase written in red that shows on each true ending's credits on chapter 3, that says you reached a main ending or just (main end) or something like that, i cant remember exactly but surely was one of these two. So there is no cannon route in urobuchi's original story. All of three endings in chapter 3 are canon. just early endings from chapter 1 and 2 are not canon (true) or can be called early endings. So yeah... There is 3 true ending for you to chose as you like, not just one. I myself am a great fan of cal's true ending, since i love both versions of her character so much. and overall all things in this route take a splendid turn, ain sacrifices herself for reiji and cal's happiness and survival and becomes a hero. cal returns to sweet and energetic girl she once was and reunite's with reiji as lovers and also they became partners as a contract killing team, called invisible monsters and take contracts all over world while always being togheter. Scythe gets killed by ain and ain dies in arms of cal from her injuries of a previous fight with yakuza, while at last realised her feelings. But ain and mio's true endings are good as well, each in its own way. in remake version, they added two sub endings to ein's true ending. one is basically same but lzzy survives due to previous decisions and kill's McGuire and ein smiles at the end. While the other sub ending is basically the animes ending that they carried to novel with the full version of beautiful transparent song by kokia that played in second half of anime episodes endings.

It tries to teach you something it makes you think about actions and consequences , it goes far beyond a tipical happy ending . I was sad that they died but that made this anime even greater .
It's been a year since I watched this anime. I watched only a couple of other titles during this time, I can hardly be called a fan of this genre. And yet this anime somehow mysteriously created some kind of mystery, a mystery that I still can’t understand. There is something in it that is not entirely clear, some kind of secret meaning, a message that could be a little ajar in the ending.

Cried at the ending. Feel so empty yet so satisfied that it ended happily in a way. Both Reiji and Eren got what they wanted out of each other and together. It started with them and ended with them. Such deep emotions i loved it💓
I am absolutely furious that I can't find much evidence for this story ever having much of a fandom. This deserves to be remembered....with the exception of the anime-only ending.
It’s 2019 and I am only just watching this Anime, but wow... what an amazing gem! Okay so I’m confused as to why people are saying the title of this song gives away the ending of the show, I thought the title of the Anime did that the moment it included Requiem as part of the title... I don’t know... I think they want you to know the end from the beginning the way Claudia tells Zwei that his fate is sealed but he can control how he gets to his ending. I kinda think we are supposed to know this from the beginning but watch how it unfolds. This song is so well suited to it! Honestly this Anime is unique and so underrated but I knew with Gen Urobuchi in on it, it had to rock!!
Sooo I finished this series for the first time last night, as I am slow. I agree--I cried like a baby, but one of the most awe-inspiring animes I've seen. I prefer this opening to the other one, soooo thanks for uploading, especially since I can play this version on my iPod 8D
This anime is really tragic and its unlike any anime ive ever seen unlike other anime which have cute and happy scenes this anime has barely any only a few just like a live action movie would have, this anime was like a james bond movies mixed with hitman however with its own story and characters you usually dont see that in anime, this might be really tragic and fucked up but tell me something do you find tragic scenes in other anime, it’s all about being forced to kill people and then killing the ones who turned you into a monster, most anime is mostly about the protagonist killing someone evil that you dont know and you are mostly considered the hero while in here there is so such things as heroes.
This is one of the most undervalued fucking anime although I agree with most people the last chapters lowered the quality, but Anime in general leaves you feeling difficult to explain.
@TheMystericaWitch The song is called karma because the main character Reiji never finds lasting happiness until the end when he pays off all his karmic crimes with death. In the entire series, he finds people who mean a lot to him but they are all taken away from him, just like he has taken people away from their families through assassination.
I remember this, darker than black and Eureka 7 being the first animes I ever watched...I think they gave me an expectation that every anime would give me serious emotional upheaval XD
I felt that in the end when Reiji got shot, he didn't want to die. If he was shot and willing to die there, he would have not have stood so long after getting shot, felt like he's resisting it.

everyone got a bit depressed by the ending because we all got very emotionally attached with the main characters but if you think carefully , that ending is what made this show one of the best i've seen .
There is something in it that is not entirely clear, some kind of secret meaning, a message that could be a little ajar in the ending.
this anime will forever be a favorite.
This anime is sooo good, and this Opening is beautiful.
I'm 24 yo dude with a gf and I cried like a bitch when this ended. There are some wrong things with this series, but still I cried and I'm proud of it.
Yep , tears just went out ... not because of the drama , but because the show ended :(
good so did I and agree with u
really? i watched it a few years back when I started into anime and I remember it was fine, but to the point of crying.
Maybe I have to watch it again.
Indeed twin brother. I cried as well.

I just wrote a song called *Out of Whack* by ninanile. The video is inspired by Phantom Requiem. Please check it out.
this song haunts me. The hardest part about this anime was that I couldn't watch it again for the first time once I'd finished.
First time I heard it....was in shock and awe by it's beauty
this was one of...no make that the best anime ive ever seen, it was so amazingly put together and the story and o my god the ending! ending was just...wow...it made me cry, i havent seen many animes that can do that, thumbs up if this anime also made you cry at the end!! make Eren smile with thumbs up! :)
What a tragic anime. I love it.
The animes that make you want to cry are the best.
One of the greatest animes of all time... been awhile since i was left wanting more
Always revisiting the music for this great, emotional anime. Hard pressed to rewatch it though, it broke me.
The actual ending is happy btw, the anime is based on a visual novel
Most people relates to this anime we might not be forced to kill people or forget emotion but we still are haunted by our past the world the way everything works, the way we are helpless in many situations
One the best anime i've ever seen . even after 4 years , still crying like a kid, damn ending but Nice ost . Its deserves more attention ... So much tragedy ,
Just a MASTERPIECE

never finished the anime but i loved this OST, i recognized it by the thumbnail last i heard it was probably 2 years ago.
It's worth the finish tbh not everyone liked the ending but overall it's a top tier anime.
Even now this song brings me chills and memories flood back.
I love that this show has a lot of haters, but a really passionate following at the same time. It's becoming a cult classic.
Cried at the ending. Feel so empty yet so satisfied that it ended happily in a way. Both Reiji and Eren got what they wanted out of each other and together. It started with them and ended with them. Such deep emotions i loved it💓
@GFS_LUPUN6they both dead
i forget the storyline. But i still remember it's title, the song, sad looks on the character's eyes
A sadly underrated anime. One of the best I've seen.
Such an underrated anime after all these years. I was 15 when I first watched it. 23 now and what happened to Zwei still makes me cry 😭😂
😂
Absolute masterclass in musicianship 🙏
I am absolutely furious that I can't find much evidence for this story ever having much of a fandom. This deserves to be remembered....with the exception of the anime-only ending.

That moment when you realize the name of their opening song spoils the ending of the show
it's best anime in the life

؟!
I remember how the ending broke me for 2 weeks 😢
one of the most impressive anime I have ever seen.
cool song ,it goes really well with the anime
"I like stories with a happy ending.
But sometimes, the hero dies in the end."
-Darksiders: Samael
This anime is really tragic and its unlike any anime ive ever seen unlike other anime which have cute and happy scenes this anime has barely any only a few just like a live action movie would have, this anime was like a james bond movies mixed with hitman however with its own story and characters you usually dont see that in anime, this might be really tragic and fucked up but tell me something do you find tragic scenes in other anime, it’s all about being forced to kill people and then killing the ones who turned you into a monster, most anime is mostly about the protagonist killing someone evil that you dont know and you are mostly considered the hero while in here there is so such things as heroes.
so nostalgic i can't believe i saw this 10 years ago
This is one of the most undervalued fucking anime although I agree with most people the last chapters lowered the quality, but Anime in general leaves you feeling difficult to explain.
this is one of my top animes. i wish more people would discover it like my friend and I did
Definitely my favourite anime!!
phantom_mist17 same here fell in love with it's story charecters style just EVERYTHING was pitched perfectly
Magical voice.
Still listening 2021
@TheMystericaWitch The song is called karma because the main character Reiji never finds lasting happiness until the end when he pays off all his karmic crimes with death. In the entire series, he finds people who mean a lot to him but they are all taken away from him, just like he has taken people away from their families through assassination.
This song is just...indescribable. I watched the anime knowing nothing about it at all purely because of this song.
anyone listening to this in 2019 ?
I'm here✋🏼
yeeees
😓😓
2020
2020 as well
This is a masterpiece anime!
This is such a mood
Ah yes, the op of the anime, that brought me in the Anime world. Truly a masterpiece.
wow this sent be back to the fucking 2000s holy shit im old
one of my favourite anime :') i hope it's will have a remake of this one day
Really love this song
This is a masterpiece. Scythe’s master
This anime is sad at the end D:
No offense dude, but even tough most people here have seen the anime, your comment could still spoil it for someone. I think you should remove it.
why? sad at the end is not a major spoiler
yeah.. it really sad :(
We knew that.
Danny Finest
2000- 2010 one of the best era's for anime.
Ive never even heard of this anime before but the song is great.
one of best anime i watch
Brings me in another world
awsome anime totally loved it cant wait for part 2
I remember this, darker than black and Eureka 7 being the first animes I ever watched...I think they gave me an expectation that every anime would give me serious emotional upheaval XD
i might as well rewatch it now
I felt that in the end when Reiji got shot, he didn't want to die. If he was shot and willing to die there, he would have not have stood so long after getting shot, felt like he's resisting it.
Requirem for a phantom, a beautiful built anime.. and I love the song also
