So after years I just finished this game. One thing I couldn't stop thinking about is, how everything could be avoided if the whole group just went to sleep in the mini van or the lodge. No noise, no werewolves, wakeup in the morning and leave.
I've played the first two Dark Pictures games, liked them well enough, but Until Dawn was amazing. I'm a few chapters into The Quarry so far and loving it. The cast is great so far and the dialogue feels much improved from previous games, where it just felt so awkward so often. Justice Smith in particular is absolutely killing it, and Brenda Song's great too (thank god there's someone in this group who actually respects guns for once and doesn't treat them like a toy). My only complaint with the game so far is that I can't find any meters that show characters' dispositions toward each other like all the previous games. I don't remember it mattering too much beyond the occasional alternate outcome for a scene, but I still miss it. Other than that, the game's a blast. Oh also, I love the dude in the tutorial videos. Great Rod Serling impression there.
@@dr.coomer9750 I hear that a lot! I started it but I only barely got past the prologue scene. It really didn't grab my interest well at all, but since I enjoy all their other stuff, I'm definitely going to give it another go sometime. Especially before the 4th part comes out.
Here’s my biggest complaint. The game is $60 on current gen and $70 on next gen. For a game that’s only 10 hours, that is WAY too much. Imo it should be $30 and hopefully enough people don’t buy the game to the point where 2K will lower the cost of it, but knowing 2K and take-two, I doubt they will

Supermassive games got amazing horror games. Even The Dark Pictures Anthology's latest was super amazing 'House Of Ashes'. I have high hopes for this game :D
The only dark pictures anthology game I liked a lot was little hope. Both the characters and the story were amazing. Man of medan was extremely forgettable and the story was bad and House of ashes also was bad when it came to story.
I loved the Quarry. I'm a huge fan of branching story games, campy 80's horror, and Until Dawn is one of my top games of all time. However, since I got into a lot of these types of games young, I usually didn't get to actually play them until years after I'd first discovered them (lack of money and my mother's unwillingness to get me a console). Meaning I'd already memorized the ins and outs of all the possible choices you could make. Getting to play the Quarry blind... oh man, did I have a blast. The characters were fun and while they played into certain tropes, I didn't find them one dimensional or unlikable. I actually thought they were pretty fleshed out and I'm attached to all of them... well. Almost all. There was one character who was taken out of the plot pretty early on, and wasn't particularly distinct before that, so I didn't walk away attached to them at all. Which wasn't the case for any of the Until Dawn characters who made it past the prologue. But aside from that one character, I thought everyone was great. I either really liked or really hated them. I was surprised with how endeared I was to a certain very minor antagonist LMAO. On the horror end of things, I wasn't super freaked out by much of anything. There were some tense scenes for sure, but I think the only time my heart genuinely skipped a beat was when an motion sensor light turned on at one point. Reminds me of how the Until Dawn moment that always got me the most was that like... wild animal jumping out of the cabinet at Chris. Lmao. The designs for the monsters were cool, but I wish they were a little more distinct, if that makes sense? Like they don't really look at all like the cultural idea of the monsters they're supposed to be, and I get that they want to be distinct, but I feel like they leaned a little too far away from convention here. Still, that's a minor nitpick, and I think that overall they were pretty good. (Also, since I know some people read fast, I'm adding here that the paragraph after the next one has some minor spoilers about allocation of playtime.) I agree the pacing was good, although there was one chapter that felt a little unbalanced and like it dragged in places. Still, when you're on a second playthrough and know where to find things/about how much longer you're gonna be in the segment, it's not nearly as bad. I also wish that the playtime was distributed a little differently? Once again, there are some spoilers in the next paragraph, since I have no idea how to say this without spoiling. You've been warned. I wish Ryan gave Kaitlyn like. A tiny bit of his playtime. According to achievements, Kaitlyn is supposed to be the final girl to Ryan's final boy, but I feel like Kaitlyn got the least playtime in the first two chapters of exposition, and then Ryan got significantly more playtime than her in the final chapters. Just... a tiny evening of the scales would be nice. Additionally, I wish Abigail took a bit more of an active role in things? She was much more of a reactive character throughout the game, and I feel like she didn't really have to be? Whereas with Nick and Max I got why, for plot reasons, they didn't do too much, Abi absolutely could have done more. But overall, distribution was good. Overall, I think I was the target audience for this game, and I absolutely loved it. 10/10, already one of my favorite games of all time. I can't say whether it surpasses Until Dawn in my rankings, since that game is drenched in nostalgia for me, and this one has the shiny coating of novelty, but I will say that I'm glad I got to enjoy them both. Definitely recommend this one for fans of UD who liked it for the campy horror tropiness or the goofy dialogue (if those things bothered you, maybe just watch a let's play, lmao), or for people who enjoy stuff like that in general.
Personally I was drawn more towards the quarry’s plot but wished it was just as elaborate as until dawn. Would’ve been interesting to play as the characters more, ESPECIALLY if some of them get infected!
@@beebeecee669 honestly starting to change my opinion, i recently bought a game for 80 dollars and I think its extremely fairly priced, this isn't some app store game its a whole other piece of technology.

I just bought the game and started playing yesterday and I really like it. I played for 8 hours straight in my first sitting. I’ve got 3 chapters left to go and I’m probably going to immediately start a replay because I’m curious about the other endings

Just had something really unexpected happen in chapter 10 based on earlier choices I made. I am a big fan of all their games until dawn and house of ashes especially. This ranks right up there with them
My only issue with these games is that they sell for full retail prices and this game is only 10 hours if you’re fast and its not worth $80CAN on first release. On PC if you are having troubles with loading cutscenes which can cause freezes which causes audio desync with them. It's the 2K launcher that cause it. The solution is to create a shortcut on your desktop to run the app directly. On steam it's found in the folder for the Quarry in your Steam Apps- common it's the one titled The Quarry that is show directly in the main folder. It completely bypasses the shitty 2K launcher. The difference between launching it from the launcher and by running the game directly bypassing it are night and day. I really don't understand why game developers have to make game launchers. There is no need for it. Steam does everything with the game it updates it. So why have it?
Love you guys but a HUGE draw back to this game is the cut scenes. I’m not kidding when I say every single cut scene lags or freezes. It’s really making it difficult to enjoy this game. I’m on PC with a 3070 and there’s no reason for this to be happening outside of rushing the release date. I’ve played all of Super Massive games and this is honestly embarrassing. If you’re gonna make a before you buy at least bring up the issue.
I wish they had used the don't move sequences from until dawn, those sequences were tense even when repeating, holding a button to hold your breath sounds and feels so unimpactful.
I'm glad they changed the QTEs to be more forgiving. When I played Man of Medan, it was horrible to die because I missed one button or was too late. Honestly no one should be going in blind to this game considering there's been like FOUR games made exactly the same way by the same company.
Supermassive never let us down 👌🏿🔥, gonna be two bangers this year, "The Quarry" and then "The Devil In Me" to close off season 1 of the Dark Pictures Anthology
@ANOTHER LOST ACCOUNT How about this, this game is horrible don’t buy it play it or even touch it or look at it. It’s horrible last of us is a much better game. Safe to say I lost my job 😡
As a huge horror fan, I really wanna like these games - but I just don’t get what is fun about them; they’re not scary, theirs no way of winning or losing (and therefore not a game by definition) and the choices you make really don’t matter as you’ll never know the alternative unless you play it again and select different options
Before you buy….people just Remember it is one man’s “opinion” and his gaming taste may not necessarily match yours. So what ever he may not like about it may not be a reason not to for you. A lot of the time it’s nitpicking. Watch a gameplay video. Decide if you like it to buy. But don’t listen to someone’s reason not to buy some you want to experience. They already have
Compared to until dawn I argue this cast over all is way more likable especially whe. You consider how many of your playable characters in until dawn went along with that bad prank in the beginning but in the quarry you're able to develop a good and fair connection with your characters and then you decide if they're good...or just a jacob!
The QTE do actually quite a bit shockingly. Before I copped the game, I played the prologue over and over to see the differences I could find and failing QTEs led to more cutscenes and whatnot and during my real play through, I purposely failed some just to see what would happen

Telltale: [he'll remember that] (he'll smirk at the end of the game instead of being stoic) Supermassive Games: [picked up twig] (you have just sealed the fate of that character and if you don't find the pinecone and go left instead of right with the next character, you have doomed 3 other characters and changed the entire outcome of the rest of the game. Enjoy this playthrough and see what happens next time you don't pick up the twig.)
Haven’t played cod since BO2 back in 2012. Haven’t gamed in years and when I did it was the Nintendo Switch JUST for smash. Last time I played a PlayStation was BO2 aforementioned. I haven’t played my switch in years I ended up giving it to my cousin for Hulu weeks ago. Then I finally got my hands on a ps5 on Monday. I’ve been playing Horizon Forbidden West all week. Glad I got one. I’m looking at other games to get but don’t mind going back to COD. Those were the days especially MW2/3 back then. I was a teenager.
Definitely gonna pick it up. You saying it being lighter in horror is good. I haven’t played a horror game in some time. And then maybe go and play Until Dawn if i like it. The multiplayer stuff also sounds promising.
Is this game worth £43.00 that it's on xbox market place for atm.. all I've seen is its got very little actual gameplay?! I loved the demo and wanted to play more but just not sure it's worth that much
Are most of the deaths decision based or QTE based? I loved House of Ash’s story a lot, and it was my favorite dark pictures game so far, but my biggest issue is almost all of the potential deaths are just from screwing up QTEs, not decision making, which from a Choose Your Own adventure game I was a bit disappointed with.
the Dark Pictures games in general I think were a little easier as far as having all your characters survive. In Until Dawn, one wrong decision and that character is dead. Do not pass "Go", do not collect 200 dollars. Dead. In the anthology games if you forgot a key item or took a wrong turn it just made you do more QTEs and you could still survive.
He did address this in video while talking about QTEs. It seems like your decisions effect deaths more then QTEs do. And if the QTEs aren't your thing, you can turn them off.
This type of game would have vast improvements if it were done in a VR setting. I fully understand why they don't... yet. Just can't help but think of the possibilities.
I still don't get how these guys haven't made a Final Destination game yet. They are the PERFECT developers to do it

gameranx is the best gaming channel on TH-cam.
Very detailed and on point.
Thank you Jake, Falcon, Video editor, everyone who works there.
So after years I just finished this game. One thing I couldn't stop thinking about is, how everything could be avoided if the whole group just went to sleep in the mini van or the lodge. No noise, no werewolves, wakeup in the morning and leave.
I went back and played Until Dawn recently and they have really come a long way since then with the facial animations.
Until dawn was and still is my favorite game, house of ashes came close to my second. I cannot wait until the 10th when this becomes available!!!
👍🏼
hows this compared to your fav game?
I couldn't help but to just grin like a mad man when Ted Raimi showed up.
I wouldn’t mind getting my wife to play this game couch coop. She played a little of UD and seemed to like it
Same, playing UD was one of the only times my wife actually seemed interested in a game lol
@@MasterMiller420 No kidding lol. She hasn’t touched a video since.
House of Ashes was the best Dark Pictures game by far, I highly suggest picking that one up too if you like this kinda thing.
@@dr.coomer9750 I hear that a lot! I started it but I only barely got past the prologue scene. It really didn't grab my interest well at all, but since I enjoy all their other stuff, I'm definitely going to give it another go sometime. Especially before the 4th part comes out.
I was sold on this with the inclusion of Ted Raimi and David Arquette. Definite buy for me.
I’m only three hours into the game at the moment and enjoying it. I’m not normally into this type of game but this one has me hooked.
Here’s my biggest complaint. The game is $60 on current gen and $70 on next gen. For a game that’s only 10 hours, that is WAY too much. Imo it should be $30 and hopefully enough people don’t buy the game to the point where 2K will lower the cost of it, but knowing 2K and take-two, I doubt they will
$40 will be the correct price point
Love hopping on TH-cam to see the new gameranx video. every time there’s a game I am interested in I always hop on here searching for a before you buy I love this series and all the stuff this channel makes it’s a good community too and the team are great
If youve never played these, theyre interactive movies basically. And theyre fantastic. Have hundreds of different endings.
Can you go back and make different decisions or would you have to start from the beginning?
@@Only1Dizzle you gotta start all over, you get 3 lives in case one of your characters die
I'm waiting till it's on sale, having a hard time dishing out 70 bucks for a game you don't really control and just make decisions.

I will always be grateful to these devs for being the catalyst that got me together with the love of my life. 😂
Awesome!
Did you play their previous game, together.. untill dawn?
- insert bad pun husky-
Awe come on, that puns quality.
@@anoniemonbekenden8159 😂
I can say the same! My love and I started until dawn before we were together! Now we love em all
I’m totally here for the story and characters! In the previous games I was mostly indifferent with most of the characters so hopefully now I’ll actually care about them!
This is better then IGN…this is one of the few channels I get a REAL review that’s isn’t too far off from the experiences you get from the actual game I litterally check here before I download anything new
Supermassive games got amazing horror games.
(Also, since I know some people read fast, I'm adding here that the paragraph after the next one has some minor spoilers about allocation of playtime.)
I agree the pacing was good, although there was one chapter that felt a little unbalanced and like it dragged in places.
You should’ve made your own video with this entire essay lmao

@@MyGuidingMoonlight55 It's a pretty good game. Not perfect, but fun.
These games should be 30$ and you can’t change my mind.

@@beebeecee669 honestly starting to change my opinion, i recently bought a game for 80 dollars and I think its extremely fairly priced, this isn't some app store game its a whole other piece of technology.
Yeah $129 price tag in Australia, I laughed and kept looking for something else to play.
I really love this style of game to watch people play, I don’t necessarily like playing them myself because the choice making would keep me constantly fuelled by anxiety of did i make the right choice, will someone die now I made that choice.
I'll buy this when it's on sale. I just can't justify 70 dollars for this style of a game.
It's trash anyway
@@dewydcb9864 Exactly lol
It’s on sale on the Xbox store.
It’s on sale 46 dollars
You made the right choice. This is NOT worth 70
I just bought the game and started playing yesterday and I really like it. I played for 8 hours straight in my first sitting. I’ve got 3 chapters left to go and I’m probably going to immediately start a replay because I’m curious about the other endings
Cool to see Ted Raimi in there as the cop, i wonder what other older era horror actors are involved, especially as Jake states these interactions are some of the best parts.
Just got the platinum today. About 3.5 play through. Love the game and the different branching paths are so worth it. Just had something really unexpected happen in chapter 10 based on earlier choices I made. I am a big fan of all their games until dawn and house of ashes especially. This ranks right up there with them
No tf it doesn't. This game is ass compared to until dawn n house of ashes.
The Mo-Cap, realism, and cast seems pretty strong. Not photo realistic, but also not in the uncanny valley. It's impressive
Until Dawn was fantastic game. Been wanting another game like it for a long time but haven't found one that's AS good yet.
My only issue with these games is that they sell for full retail prices and this game is only 10 hours if you’re fast and its not worth $80CAN on first release. I’m excited to play this but imo I’m not into replaying a game like this over and over. So I’ll wait till it drops to $65 maybe $49.99 around Christmas to buy it but hopefully soon
day 2 of me saying: Did you know that if you enter a cab in gta5 and fast travel without having enough to pay for the cab fare the cab driver will drop you off at the police station and you'll get a 2 star wanted level.
I really hope they can correct the eye crossing in a patch. Looks promising.
Absolutely loved until dawn. I hope this one gives me the same feeling
gonna wait on a sale, wanna play it, but don't feel like paying 70 bucks honestly
It’s already been pre-ordered and I’m excited to jump into it on Friday until Dawn is pretty much one of my all-time favourite games and the dark pictures anthology is really enjoyable too - I recently got the platinum trophy for UD and I still want to play it again - I expect the quarry will be the same for me
On PC if you are having troubles with loading cutscenes which can cause freezes which causes audio desync with them.
This game has an amazing cast, so I may actually pick this up because of them
Love you guys but a HUGE draw back to this game is the cut scenes.
I just really love these kinds of games wish we got more of these especially like Detroit become human
They’re “forgiving” in the sense that they hardly exist. The game basically plays itself.
I finished this game yesterday. I agree with you. Some things can be better but it's really good. I enjoyed story from start to finish
seems like the perfect game to play while waiting for other hyped games, this year has been great so far!
This is the perfect game to play on downtime waiting for the guys to get on COD and pass a simple HR

I personally love the facial details when they talk. It really makes it look realistic 🥳👌🔥
I'm glad we finally got another choose your own adventure movie. Not enough of them out there imo!
Looking forward to this however I’m not dropping $80 for the experience
The QTE do actually quite a bit shockingly. Before I copped the game, I played the prologue over and over to see the differences I could find and failing QTEs led to more cutscenes and whatnot and during my real play through, I purposely failed some just to see what would happen
I love these games with my girlfriend actually her first time staying at my place we played until dawn to completion. We've played the dark anthology and were hype for this one.
i would like to like to play with my mom who loves watching movies, however, is there just simple direction button for her to control?
Yes.
There are options to reduce all QTEs to nothing or absolutely minimal and unlimited time. It makes the game completely accessible.
i think ill wait for it to come out on a sale
The quarry is on sale for 10$ on Xbox store, is it worth it chat??
Yes
Bought it 3 days ago after playing the trial and it never gave the full game to me and took my money

Here I am, once again, watching this after buying the game 😁
I didn’t realize this was made by the same creators from Until Dawn!

I was a teenager.
this is making me excited for the next dark pictures game which i have been waiting for since house of ashes

I knew I recognized Brenda Song the minute I saw her character in the game!!
I absolutely love these types of games and I have had this preordered for awhile now. Can’t wait till tomorrow
You know what would have been cool? If the "don't breathe" QTE was mic activated and you had to not get jumpscared
Definitely gonna pick it up. You saying it being lighter in horror is good. I haven’t played a horror game in some time. And then maybe go and play Until Dawn if i like it. The multiplayer stuff also sounds promising.
2:58 That’s quite a focused flash on that smartphone.
Detroit become human still has the best and most choices in the genre
The wolf among us is really good too.
Detroit become human is just another level one the best game I've ever played.
He literally answered your question in the video why even ask this
