It's crazy how generic, emotionless, uninteresting and bland their reviews are. It blows my mind that they get so much exclusive access and so many views. It's like a gaming channel for non gamers, just hyper corporate fluff. Gamerranx, skillUP, ACG etc... are just miles better.
@Ben Franklin yes, i usually have a lot of the same kids in a few different classes, i guess it depends on where ur from/ how big or small your school is as well but its hogwarts, im pretty sure the same people went to the same classes in the movies
As a huge HP fan, I can say that exploring the castle is the most fun I have had in a game in years. There are a ton of secrets to discover from the books. The statue of the one-eyed witch was such a joy to find, as was the painting of Barnabus the Barmy, with a stretch of blank wall across from it. Just a ton of nods to the lore.
That was all I really wanted, and they gave us that and a lot more. As a gamer, yeah, there could be some major improvements that I expect to see in a sequel, but for a first AAA outing from this studio? With new content in this franchise? Absolutely stunning, honestly. Virtual Hogwarts totally rules.

Your house actually gives you an entirely different subset of side missions obviously some are shared but for example, huffelpuff has the only side mission where you go to Azkaban so there is definetly some variety based on your house and that adds some replay ability too which is cool
As a Harry Potter nerd, I will be making four characters just to see the different common rooms. The developers went so far to incorporate the correct house ghost for Hufflepuff, the Fat Friar. He doesn't say anything but he is there and it makes me smile.

It does suck that the NPCs dont react all that much. I feel like that would bring a lot of life to the school. At least to spells you may do or even in specific interactions Edit: thank you for the likes! Ive played the game and the NPCs standing around the school will actually dodge out the way of an incoming spell. They may not look at you or be fully interactive, but at least this adds some immersion.
@@randomdude189 There's 57 side quests, 12 assignments, hundreds of collectibles scattered around crammed with Hogwarts/wizardry lore. Hidden rooms, locked doors, entire optional dungeons. Not to mention the 42 main quests... What more do you want?
There is actually a difference depending on which house you pick. Each house has their own exclusive side quests you can do and some cutscenes slightly change.

PS1 version actually felt much more surreal than this back then. Probably because we are more desensitised by games with really good graphics nowadays.

PC players are having some issues with the game, stuttering and lag seems to be a thing even on high spec builds. Runs fine on consoles but pc version seems to need work.

We don't need more bloated open world games like how some of the AC games have become where the quests are fun but the other stuff is just the same thing over and over in every zone. Give us more open world games like Elder Scrolls, Elden Ring, Fallout, ect. Where there are actual quests all over the place.
I hate this game, 50% of the time playing is spent on loading screens because the devs couldn't optimize it for older gen consoles. Then the actual gameplay is so repetitive I got bored so fast

Its amazing how they manage to make the hogwarts castle itself they also have a massive map that you can go anywhere you want outside the castle. Ive never been a huge Harry potter fan but damn playing this game put a smile on my face just walking around the castle admiring the attention to detail. Recommend this game to literally anyone.. its been a minute since we had a game like this

I wanted to see how the story would be as a Slytherin. So far I've played roughly 20 hours and I'm just about halfway through the main story. Been doin loads of side quests. This game is the best game I've played in a long time. I don't tend to stay with a game after completing the story but I will probably go for 100% compete. Highly recommend this game
I think choosing the house is much more cosmetically like the common room and your color schemes for your gear than changing the outcome of the story line. I am usually gryffindor or ravenclaw but I wanted to play slytherin and tap into the dark/ancient magic 😂
@@henrylam92 not true. only hufflepuff can go to azkaban so you have to play many playthroughs if you're not already going with that house. also each house has their own side questlines but ravenclaw has the least. also 3 different endings
Because they have integrity. He say it how he feels and try to take objective view. Its more like the game sold itself, because he is great reviewer and tell you information you actually want answers to.
I’ve never been a Harry Potter fan. But this game is great. I love the amount of exploration and puzzle solving. The combat is actually really good. It’s not very difficult and can be a little repetitive but the combat feats help mix things up a bit. Overall, a really great game that I think actually lived up to the hype. 8 or 9 out of 10 easily
@@gingergrigsby250 You will like it! My boyfriend is not a Potter fan, and he's usually playing multiplayer games. He absolutely loves Hogwarts Legacy, he has more hours played than me right now! Being a HP nerd definitely enhances your experience because you will recognise some things and places in the game, of course. But you absolutely can go in blind; they do a very good job of explaining the basics so everyone can understand how the world works. It's super fun. Great puzzles. Exploring the castle is extremely fun - you'll find yourself spotting a new corridor and just wanting to run down and see what's at the end, what's behind this door etc. The castle itself is a masterpiece. You'll love the game I'm sure!

I'd rather they make non harry potter based games. Harry potter is cool and all but the author gets royalties with each purchase and we all know what she does with that excess income. At least until rowling stops actively participating in genocidal activity, I gotta swear off potter stuff.
I'm basically just really excited for a new open-world exploration game, and the Harry Potter universe allows the developers to get really creative with level design. Can't wait to play it

I’m actually surprised at the amount of deep Wizarding World lore that they inserted into this game. There’s a lot of details that you really have to search for in the canon of other potter video games, books, and media that they have seamlessly added into this. You can def tell the dev team really took their time with things like that.
@@knightnxk2906 I’ve only been in the castle so far and Hogsmeade. The walk to Hogsmeade had a lot to see. I def haven’t seen enough yet to know if it’s super barren out in the open world or not.
@@lunaluvya I will be honest I havent played the game yet, but I played many MMORPGs and RPGs games and I can tell quite fast after seeing every aspect of the game. Game is fun to see and explore, memorable, I know i was also a big fan of LOTR and i bought every game that came out in the past I had my own fun with it despite knowing some where literal trash, but it's for the experience i guess. I have nothing against anyone, it's just that everyone is hyping too much and after a week it will be a dead game cos there will be nothing exciting to do. I hope they bring more things to do and maybe bring it online like GTA or RDR2
Interesting that Dumbledore isn't in the game at all. I'm not a huge HP fan but i googled it and he was born in 1881 while the game takes place in 1899. So he could theoretically be a 7th year.
Really pleased with it. My only annoyance is doors. I’m used to just being able to run into them…but the door won’t open if you approach too fast 🙄 and will sometimes require you to press a button, sometimes not. It will frequently open once you walk away.

Gameranx and skill up are the only YT reviewrs I know of that I trust their opinions. Seems they actually play the game and are not like IGN for eg where it is just failed writers writing trash and reading a script
I started exploring Hogwarts the moment I got there, trying to solve puzzles and what not! It's incredible! Know places from the movies and so on. Like it's crazy to see most of it come to life. And after I did get to the first two classes I can now explore more! I haven't been into Harry Potter since when I was about 15. Thats about 18 years ago now. This game made me instantly get back into it!
Yea, I'm shocked at how impressive this game is. It's almost everything a Harry Potter fan could ever want in a Harry Potter video game. I hope it wins GOTY.
I’m absolutely loving this game it’s absolutely stunning with visuals all the little puzzles and quests and stuff you can do make the game feel like an actual “Harry Potter” game I find myself just exploring Hogwarts for hours at a time and I don’t even have a quarter of the spells I need to view everything it offer’s. It’s definitely a fantastic game that’s worth checking out even at the $70 price tag
I grew up on the books and movies and know a lot about the lore. I think the game expanded on the existing lore really well, it wasn't completely spot on but it was really charming and nostalgic.
Room for some really good DLC to expand on the houses or Quidditch etc. Also if they open up mod support, this game will live another 5 years on the back of that alone
I'm not HP fan but this game is my best gaming experience since Witcher 3. Exploring is amazing. Battle is intense. Even collecting stuff is great because there's always something to read of think to resolve. No easy and boring "pick ups". Only thing that feels underdeveloped is looting clothes. Since you are able to upgrade you own stuff finding new clothes is just sell stuff. Also transmog makes new items useless. But overall it's AMAZING, MAGIC and somehow cozy-feeling game.
it would be really cool if they added a mechanic where if you broke any of the school rules you would have a chase/hide and seek sequence with the janitor, like how Filch was in the books

Would be cool if they had at least a Witcher 3 approach to NPCs; that you can make them talk with a push of a button. Granted they don't really say much, but those little interactions still significantly add to the *_imershun_* .
right, but then, I dont understand why games rarelty impliment highly interactive NPCs. I don't program games but seems like that wouldn't be too hard, and it goes a long way. Like maybe have each NPC have different dialogue options for every day of the week. Games rarely ever flesh out NPC interactions.
@@salvulcano9061 Rockstar Games are AAA done right imo. I think it‘s unacceptable how most big developers became essentially amateur companies with big PR. Hence, I‘m also slightly disappointed with Hogwarts Legacy seemingly not being completely fleshed out. Like guys, come on. Even Cyberpunk had better NPCs.
The combat system is one of the best I have ever played with. And btw you can bump into students and they will react. Sometimes you can talk with them a line just like this and still, they are moving, doing things and talking to other students. Even the portraits are reacting to your presence
My wife doesn't play games and she saw me playing Hogwarts Legacy. Being a huge Harry Potter fan, she exclaimed, "I Wanna Play!" And we made her a character and a part of Ravenclaw (I'm Slytherin). She plays more than me now- she loves going to classes (she's a teacher) and walking around the castle, admiring the architecture. She's casting Ravelio everywhere she goes. She'll rate it a 10/10 and I'm rating it a 9/10 , only because the devs made the game so good that my wife is now hogging the ps5!
My wife and I and our 2 daughters all play at the same time in our PCs and we are doing a lot of, "hey, have you seen this yet?" and, "did you do this quest yet, I'm stuck..." It makes for great family fun together even though it's single player.
For a studio who's last games were Cars and Disney Infinity, I'm really impressed with what they've pulled off. Looking forward to seeing it grow and improve on their future projects.

@@viktorvondoom9119 the story so far has been great and the side quests are a whole different story in it self and not like the mindless whatever each character has been given attention. As far as Witcher goes I'll say I like the combat more in HL. I think you should give it a try reckon you'll be satisfied.
Really like the game, the first open world game in years where I don't get bored in a few hours. The world is amazing, graphics are great and runs decent on PC. If you liked the movies or the books this is a now brainer! Did not expect Avalanche to pull it off.
Really wanted a system like Bully or Persona where you had to go to class or you could skip and get in trouble or miss stuff. That would've been cool in my opinion.
It would be nice but there is only so much you can fit into a game lol. Bully was lacking a deep combat system, I feel like if hogwarts went the bully route they would had to make cuts somewhere else.
@@AnUtterMesh I can't remember to be honest however I do remember being able to charge it up by holding the button down so you could push things further away. Maybe that's what you're talking about?
die-hard fan here. there's quite alot of little nostalgic and referenced points in the game which is a nice touch. My friend and his girlfriend aren't as interested in Harry Potter as myself but this game got them picking up book lore and quoting snippets of it. it was refreshing to see things and moments I care greatly for shared with others who wouldn't otherwise experience it.
@@JSE4 definitely, the castle was amazing to walk through and see portraits and areas mentioned all around it. The friend I mentioned found out about how the Gryffs girls staircase turned into a slide, and the dancing trolls in front of the Room of Requirement which they’d previously not know about. I also called Defence, DADA and had to clarify what DADA meant. But they were, I guess ‘seeing’ Hogwarts with more perception. I’m quite humbled.
I grew up with the books and movies and I am very excited that this game seems to be so well done. Yes, NPCs just being decoration and house choice being mostly visual is disappointing as I was hoping for a living, breathing world that gives me the "Hogwarts Life-Sim" vibes but its not like any other modern open world RPG does that kind of stuff anymore either. Wish this had coop though!
I took my kids to see the films when they came out, so we have a fondness for the franchise. I obviously preordered the deluxe version so we could play it early lol, I still have one of em living at the house and we’re excited to play it!
I've never read the books, have all the movies and I'm really looking forward to playing this game. To address the "living, breathing" part of your comment. Perhaps your not familiar with the Horizon series. Everyone in those games acknowledges you as a character, sometimes annoyingly so. A little disappointed the NPCs are decorations but I think it will still be a good time.😉⚡
personally, if it had co-op I would enact the fanfic harry poter and the methods of rationality then post it as a youtube video (its a long fanfic that needs multiple people the thing is over 1 million words)

Being that so much of this game understandably takes place around the castle, what would the setting of a 2nd game be in order to keep things fresh? In my mind, this is the sort of thing that would be better off utilizing a couple of massive DLCs for new content. Examples would be more new areas, and fricken Quidditch!
This game is so much fun, especially for a fan. I'm about 8+ hours into the game and I can't wait to spend dozens more exploring and learning everything I possibly can.

It is rare to see passion like that. I also find games combat really boring, but we got finished game, we knew what we can expect and they didn't lie to us. That I like a lot. I feel like depending on how successful Hogwarts Legacy and potential DLCs are it really feels like they designed the Hogwarts Castle and surrounding world with potential sequels in mind with all the lore and details. It's using Unreal Engine 4 and a sequel could easily upgrade the assets and everything to Unreal Engine 5 and then they can just expand on that. It's my hope that this game does well and it's just the start of a Franchise with an ever expanding world. There's so much potential here based on how right it feels from the reviewers perspective. It just potentially feels like the start of a reignited IP.

I have been a HP fan since I was a kid and only the first 3 books were even published. This game is what I have been wanting since. It hits all that I wanted (I don’t really care about quidditch). I was concerned about combat but find it enjoyable. There’s are numerous secrets and surprises all over. I have been playing for about 5 days straight and don’t regret using vacation for it.
I agree completely! I was actually dreading quidditch for this game, I could only think it would be a disappointing version of blitzball from FFX, and god was I dreading it. Thankfully the flight system is limited to travel and ring challenges. The game has really hit all of my gameplay wants, while still hitting the nostalgia points that I think fans were hoping for. I also appreciate the slightly more medieval, darker, tone they chose to utilize. Appropriate for an audience that has grown since the franchise began.
As a Harry Potter fan, I love the game. So very much. It’s truly a dream come true and things like customizing my wand even though it really serves no purpose made me insanely happy. Things like the Common rooms and castle not being as interactive dont even bother me, because throughout Hogwarts, I just wanna be on the move and explore. Yes, I do wish we could sit in those gorgeous Common room couches or take a quick nap in our dorm’s bed to alternatively manual save/time skip, but either way, as a seasoned gamer and Potterhead alike, this game, flaws and all, is freaking incredible!
I feel like it lack in combat a lot, like there are not many play styles etc. But it is mainly exploration and adventure game, so i am not disappointed that much.

Bro I've never played something like this. I'm sure others have comparisons. But I personally haven't experienced an open world game specifically like this. It genuinely feels refreshing. I would like to be able interact with NPCs more but, I'm content nonetheless. I'm excited because this is just the beginning; updates and expansions are destined to come! Great start for the game.
I guess now we'll appreciate npc dialogue more, we used to take it for granted that every "daily things"dialogue with npc add so much more to the feels of the game, i don't know how it will gonna be like in hogwarts legacy does it makes you empty doing quest and quest without talking to npc in between? does the world feel static? Npc dialogues are one of the most important things in rpg for me, like hearing some dude sht his pants for eating too much or an innocent things like a kid being shunned off by his friends cause the fight or something, you get the idea. Im looking forward on playing this!
there's a lot little things happens with when you walk past NPCs, like when i walked past the zonko's joke shop, the owner was kicking out students from the shop, or there was a chamber full of ghost talking and dancing away. it's very lively in some way when you go to certain areas of the map.
I mean there are some interesting conversations. I walked past a Ravenclaw (I think) that was complaining about getting no mail from his family. I saw Peeves and heard him a few times in the background. U can't interact with everyone but there are people with marks on their heads that u can talk to. The students also remark on whatever main or some side quests u do
Gameranx is very good, I recommend them for reviews. I've used Before You Buy to make purchasing decisions before and their comments match up to the quality of the games well.

I much prefer classes sticking narrativly and I think thats the right call. I know lots of people lile that system but it would kind ruin the game for people like me who don't want to worry about being late or missing classes while exploring the castle. I just don't like grinding.
For what it's worth HP was a huge part of my childhood, grew up with it, loved it, etc. But the moment the original leak was out, I convinced myself I'd buy it no matter what. I'm glad to see people who are new to the IP picking it up and willing to give it a try!
I've been dreaming about a game like this for over a decade now and I'm so happy that it's finally here. I've got about 7 hours of playtime and I've loved every single minute of it. It's just really fun to run around the castle and explore the side quests the the whole map in general. I'm pretty relieved that the amount of time you spend in each class is actually quite brief and isn't very tedious since sometimes it's barely five minutes.
Oddly enough, I would prefer more Hogwarts classes and QTE lessons. Those moments went by too fast in favor of the open world quests. Hell, more advanced mini-games for upgrading your spells would have been cool too.
Been playing this game for about 15 hours now. The devs have smashed it. Just exploring. The classes, the combat it’s all just awesome. They’ve got an absolute gem of a game here and it’s been a very long time since I’ve actually enjoyed one this much. Gaming as a whole has been on a massive decline for me. It’s games like this that make me excited as a gamer. It reignites the passion of pumping hours into a game and loosing track of time. getting lost in a world that was clearly handled with tremendous care. BUY THIS GAME! You won’t regret it.
33 years here, playing video games since I was 13. Unfortunately, in the last years, gaming has become a bug fest, boring, copy paste, disappointing, hype and then really meh, laziness, so on. Well, I tried this one, even if I never liked Harry Potter movies. I had low expectations, but I have to say, I'm impressed so far. I mean, it's not something new, but at least, I'm having fun with it. Like I said, kinda hard to enjoy a game these days
I remember playing the first game so much that I damaged the disk (being a kid didn't take the best care of it) and couldn't play it in English anymore so went to French and Spanish and still had a blast, can't wait to give this one a go

As a die hard Harry Potter fan I love what developers did , it's not easy but it really feels like home +the names of characters ,the lore ,everything makes sense!
Oh my lord! This game looks absolutely wonderful! Every inch seems hand-crafted. I'm going to spend most of my time walking (not running) around I think. The effects are cool and impactful, the lighting is incredible. Every chamber seems to be different. I hope the texture pop-ins and T-pose stuff is not on PC, or that it will be fixed through a patch at some point. I might have to buy 10 copies of this game. Don't even need them all, I just want to support good craftsmanship.

As usual Jake & Gameranx are right on the money! I’m a few hours into Hogwarts & I already feel like a kid again, exploring every inch of the world. I love everything so far and my only gripe is with what Jake mentioned during talking cutscenes. I do get some brightness changes when the camera shifts, almost feels like it switched from Cool to Warm colors sometimes. Not the end of the world but it does get a bit annoying. I hope it gets patched up soon, just glad to hear it’s not only me seeing it on the PS5. Hope to see more soon.
Gameranx is the only game reviews I trust. Was on the edge about this game as I’m not too big of a Harry Potter fan. I’ve seen all the movies I just don’t really care for it, but the idea of an open world game in the the Harry Potter universe could be fun, this video convinced me to pick it up and give it a shot

I can't wait for the game tomorrow, been hyped since gameranx covered it's leak years ago. I do feel like they could add some sort of "school life" system, kinda like how skyrim added a survival mode. It wouldn't be a huge change either, making it so you're not allowed out past curfew if you get caught, making some classes with minigames that maybe add some new spells or recipes. I mean it's not the furthest thing to expect if they plan to add DLC or updates to the game
A lot of people have been speculating that they might add something like that with one of the updates, as well as eventually adding Quidditch, although the devs have explained that lore-wise Quidditch is banned the year it's set in or something like that

I kind of wish they had a Persona style social life and school aspect. Building social links to unlock new powers and extra-curricular activities was what made Persona world so real and addictive.
I totally doubt HP games will have too much of a mature theme though like Persona titles became the HP franchise have always been catered towards kids and younger teens.

In my opinion, something a vast majority of games fail is to first make a fun game. Then you make everything else. If the combat is bad, the game will suffer no matter what else is going on. Most games revolve around combat in one form or another, unless they are specifically puzzle/card/dating sims or whatever. That said, this combat looks great.
I started a few hours ago, and hot damn... I am loving it. As he stated, there are some nitpicks for seasoned gamers here and there, but nothing that is anything more than a minor annoyance...far superseded by the incredible attention to detail of the castle, the immersive nature of what is happening, the music, the feeling of mystery, the insanely good graphics (honestly some of the best, if not THE best lighting I have seen in a game), really solid combat, and controls that feel great overall. The gripes about facial animations are definitely overblown. There are times when it is a bit wibbly, but I was actually quite impressed by the mouth movement to mimic actual words so often that I questioned a couple of times whether it was actually mo-capped or not. I was also pleasantly surprised by how much my player character emotes and likewise their facial animation is quite satisfactory, giving them a personality much more obvious than the wooden nature of what is seen in the preview content. Overall, everything I could have hoped for so far. Wandering the castle currently, lost as shit, and there was no place I would rather be. Buckle up.
I never really cared for the Harry Potter franchise, but I might finally get into it with this game. It looks surprisingly fleshed out when it comes to Hogwarts itself and the combat looks simple and entertaining.
In Witcher 3, if u pulled out your sword in a crowd, the npc civilians reacted and the guards would tell u to put the sword away…. I’m surprised they didn’t make the npcs at least a little bit reactive.
I suppose pulling out your wand shouldn't have nearly the same effect in a magic school lol But they could at least react upon casting any combat spells
The Witcher 3 NPCs are one of the best I've seen in any game. You can interact with them, bump into them and they have a life of their own. Plus, the environment actually has an affect on how they react. Hope Witcher 4 only expands upon this
I was carefully optimistic when this was announced, and the more I see about it, the more it appeals to me. I especially like how wandering inside Hogwarts looks like, and the customization options.
I was a little disappointed in the old games because I knew the books by heart so it became boring knowing exactly how & when stuff was going to happen. So I am stoked for my own personal adventure! As someone who has photosensitive epilepsy, if anyone reads my comment, is there strobe effects? If so can I turn them off?
Summary. if you're a Potter Head, this is a no-brainer, a must play. For non Potterheads, this is like any other open world RPG you've probly played before

Only played an hour of it so far on my series x and i'm absolutely loving every minute of it! The only issues i have come across was a single framerate drop and some light adjusting thing when i entered hogwarts from an outside area. Both minor bugs that i'd imagine will be patched soon. Both bugs only happened briefly and probably not noticeable to most people.

As somewhat a Harry Potter fan I’m really enjoying this game. There’s so much to do, I’ve barley started the main story. I’m just lost in the castle. I agree the houses don’t make much different but if you’re into role playing it adds somewhat
I was never a diehard Harry Potter fanboy like I am with the Star Wars franchise, but when I saw more recent footage of this game in the past four months or so, I was just so impressed with the graphics and the sense that the devs seemed to have really captured the essence of the Potter-verse, I knew I wanted to play it.
I play on hard because I thought the combat would lead to some tough battles and honestly it can be pretty hard at times dying repeatedly and it definetly doesn’t leave room for much error which is awesome honestly
The voice pitch is bugged at the moment. The only way to prevent this robotic / talking in bucket voice is to use the standard preset. Luckily you can easily go to the audio menu and reset the options to default including the voice pitch fixing that sound. The only drawback is that it's the standard voice and not the higher or lower voices that one could prefer (me included.)
what makes it truly endearing is that it does no wrong. It might not get everything absolutely perfectly right but aside from the quidditch issue( which im 100000% sure is coming as a DLC), the game plays beautifully and my only complains are about things that I wish we got more of. Potion brewing minigames, a bit more involvement in classes, just a bit more impact out of some decisions. But aside from noticing it here and there, none of those things ever made me want to put the controller down. That's this game biggest thing, you just want to keep going
Been playing on series X for 16 hours now and can say that I haven't ran into any major bugs. Very minor things that are easy to look over in a game that is this good :)
This looks like the perfect HP experience. I watched all movies, because the world was cool. The disappointing part of the movies was how it felt like they were just scratching the surface with all the possibilities. I'm not buying this game any time soon, but I'll be excited to play it when it inevitably gets a discount and all the bugs are fixed- maybe when all the possible DLC has already been released.
So you're not gonna play it until like a year from now 😂 dude, if you really want the experience, play it now. Trust me, bugs are temperamental and DLC hype is better when you've been playing already and waiting for it.
Been playing Hogwarts Legacy non stop. Oh my goodness, this is the best I have played in awhile. The attention to detail in the world is mind blowing. The gameplay is fun as hell and I'm just absolutely having a blast. The developers have really outdone themselves. These guys have been known to make games like Toy Story, and other Disney games. I'm just amazed. Wow. Not even a super massive Harry Potter fan either

As a huge HP fan, I can say that exploring the castle is the most fun I have had in a game in years. There are a ton of secrets to discover from the books. The statue of the one-eyed witch was such a joy to find, as was the painting of Barnabus the Barmy, with a stretch of blank wall across from it. Just a ton of nods to the lore.
That was all I really wanted, and they gave us that and a lot more. As a gamer, yeah, there could be some major improvements that I expect to see in a sequel, but for a first AAA outing from this studio? With new content in this franchise? Absolutely stunning, honestly.

Your house actually gives you an entirely different subset of side missions obviously some are shared but for example, huffelpuff has the only side mission where you go to Azkaban so there is definetly some variety based on your house and that adds some replay ability too which is cool

As a Harry Potter nerd, I will be making four characters just to see the different common rooms. The developers went so far to incorporate the correct house ghost for Hufflepuff, the Fat Friar. He doesn't say anything but he is there and it makes me smile.

It does suck that the NPCs dont react all that much. I feel like that would bring a lot of life to the school. At least to spells you may do or even in specific interactions
Edit: thank you for the likes! Ive played the game and the NPCs standing around the school will actually dodge out the way of an incoming spell. They may not look at you or be fully interactive, but at least this adds some immersion.

There is actually a difference depending on which house you pick. Each house has their own exclusive side quests you can do and some cutscenes slightly change.

PC players are having some issues with the game, stuttering and lag seems to be a thing even on high spec builds. Runs fine on consoles but pc version seems to need work.

Its amazing how they manage to make the hogwarts castle itself they also have a massive map that you can go anywhere you want outside the castle. Ive never been a huge Harry potter fan but damn playing this game put a smile on my face just walking around the castle admiring the attention to detail. I wanted to see how the story would be as a Slytherin. So far I've played roughly 20 hours and I'm just about halfway through the main story. Been doin loads of side quests. This game is the best game I've played in a long time. I don't tend to stay with a game after completing the story but I will probably go for 100% compete. Highly recommend this game
I think choosing the house is much more cosmetically like the common room and your color schemes for your gear than changing the outcome of the story line. I am usually gryffindor or ravenclaw but I wanted to play slytherin and tap into the dark/ancient magic 😂

I’ve never been a Harry Potter fan. But this game is great. I love the amount of exploration and puzzle solving. The combat is actually really good. It’s not very difficult and can be a little repetitive but the combat feats help mix things up a bit. Overall, a really great game that I think actually lived up to the hype. 8 or 9 out of 10 easily

@@gingergrigsby250 You will like it! My boyfriend is not a Potter fan, and he's usually playing multiplayer games. He absolutely loves Hogwarts Legacy, he has more hours played than me right now! Being a HP nerd definitely enhances your experience because you will recognise some things and places in the game, of course. But you absolutely can go in blind; they do a very good job of explaining the basics so everyone can understand how the world works. It's super fun. Great puzzles. Exploring the castle is extremely fun - you'll find yourself spotting a new corridor and just wanting to run down and see what's at the end, what's behind this door etc. The castle itself is a masterpiece. You'll love the game I'm sure!

I’m actually surprised at the amount of deep Wizarding World lore that they inserted into this game. There’s a lot of details that you really have to search for in the canon of other potter video games, books, and media that they have seamlessly added into this. You can def tell the dev team really took their time with things like that.

Interesting that Dumbledore isn't in the game at all. I'm not a huge HP fan but i googled it and he was born in 1881 while the game takes place in 1899. So he could theoretically be a 7th year.

Really pleased with it. My only annoyance is doors. I’m used to just being able to run into them…but the door won’t open if you approach too fast 🙄 and will sometimes require you to press a button, sometimes not. It will frequently open once you walk away.

I started exploring Hogwarts the moment I got there, trying to solve puzzles and what not! It's incredible! Know places from the movies and so on. Like it's crazy to see most of it come to life. And after I did get to the first two classes I can now explore more! I haven't been into Harry Potter since when I was about 15. Thats about 18 years ago now. This game made me instantly get back into it!

I’m absolutely loving this game it’s absolutely stunning with visuals all the little puzzles and quests and stuff you can do make the game feel like an actual “Harry Potter” game I find myself just exploring Hogwarts for hours at a time and I don’t even have a quarter of the spells I need to view everything it offer’s. It’s definitely a fantastic game that’s worth checking out even at the $70 price tag

I'm not HP fan but this game is my best gaming experience since Witcher 3. Exploring is amazing. Battle is intense. Even collecting stuff is great because there's always something to read of think to resolve. No easy and boring "pick ups". Only thing that feels underdeveloped is looting clothes. Since you are able to upgrade you own stuff finding new clothes is just sell stuff. Also transmog makes new items useless. But overall it's AMAZING, MAGIC and somehow cozy-feeling game.

Would be cool if they had at least a Witcher 3 approach to NPCs; that you can make them talk with a push of a button. Granted they don't really say much, but those little interactions still significantly add to the *_imershun_* .
right, but then, I dont understand why games rarelty impliment highly interactive NPCs. I don't program games but seems like that wouldn't be too hard, and it goes a long way. Like maybe have each NPC have different dialogue options for every day of the week. Games rarely ever flesh out NPC interactions.

The combat system is one of the best I have ever played with. And btw you can bump into students and they will react. Sometimes you can talk with them a line just like this and still, they are moving, doing things and talking to other students. Even the portraits are reacting to your presence
My wife doesn't play games and she saw me playing Hogwarts Legacy. Being a huge Harry Potter fan, she exclaimed, "I Wanna Play!" And we made her a character and a part of Ravenclaw (I'm Slytherin). She plays more than me now- she loves going to classes (she's a teacher) and walking around the castle, admiring the architecture. She's casting Ravelio everywhere she goes. She'll rate it a 10/10 and I'm rating it a 9/10 , only because the devs made the game so good that my wife is now hogging the ps5!

For a studio who's last games were Cars and Disney Infinity, I'm really impressed with what they've pulled off. Looking forward to seeing it grow and improve on their future projects.

Really like the game, the first open world game in years where I don't get bored in a few hours. The world is amazing, graphics are great and runs decent on PC. If you liked the movies or the books this is a now brainer! Did not expect Avalanche to pull it off.

die-hard fan here. there's quite alot of little nostalgic and referenced points in the game which is a nice touch. My friend and his girlfriend aren't as interested in Harry Potter as myself but this game got them picking up book lore and quoting snippets of it. it was refreshing to see things and moments I care greatly for shared with others who wouldn't otherwise experience it.
100% that first mission when you go into the forbidden forest has a really nice reference to Harry Potters story. It was beautiful actually
@@JSE4 definitely, the castle was amazing to walk through and see portraits and areas mentioned all around it. The friend I mentioned found out about how the Gryffs girls staircase turned into a slide, and the dancing trolls in front of the Room of Requirement which they’d previously not know about. I also called Defence, DADA and had to clarify what DADA meant. But they were, I guess ‘seeing’ Hogwarts with more perception. I’m quite humbled.
I grew up with the books and movies and I am very excited that this game seems to be so well done. Yes, NPCs just being decoration and house choice being mostly visual is disappointing as I was hoping for a living, breathing world that gives me the "Hogwarts Life-Sim" vibes but its not like any other modern open world RPG does that kind of stuff anymore either. Wish this had coop though!

Perhaps your not familiar with the Horizon series. Everyone in those games acknowledges you as a character, sometimes annoyingly so. A little disappointed the NPCs are decorations but I think it will still be a good time.😉⚡

Being that so much of this game understandably takes place around the castle, what would the setting of a 2nd game be in order to keep things fresh? In my mind, this is the sort of thing that would be better off utilizing a couple of massive DLCs for new content. Examples would be more new areas, and fricken Quidditch!

I feel like depending on how successful Hogwarts Legacy and potential DLCs are it really feels like they designed the Hogwarts Castle and surrounding world with potential sequels in mind with all the lore and details. It's using Unreal Engine 4 and a sequel could easily upgrade the assets and everything to Unreal Engine 5 and then they can just expand on that. It's my hope that this game does well and it's just the start of a Franchise with an ever expanding world. There's so much potential here based on how right it feels from the reviewers perspective. It just potentially feels like the start of a reignited IP.

I have been a HP fan since I was a kid and only the first 3 books were even published. This game is what I have been wanting since. It hits all that I wanted (I don’t really care about quidditch). I was concerned about combat but find it enjoyable. There’s are numerous secrets and surprises all over. I have been playing for about 5 days straight and don’t regret using vacation for it.
I agree completely! I was actually dreading quidditch for this game, I could only think it would be a disappointing version of blitzball from FFX, and god was I dreading it. Thankfully the flight system is limited to travel and ring challenges. The game has really hit all of my gameplay wants, while still hitting the nostalgia points that I think fans were hoping for. I also appreciate the slightly more medieval, darker, tone they chose to utilize. Appropriate for an audience that has grown since the franchise began.
As a Harry Potter fan, I love the game. So very much. It’s truly a dream come true and things like customizing my wand even though it really serves no purpose made me insanely happy. Things like the Common rooms and castle not being as interactive dont even bother me, because throughout Hogwarts, I just wanna be on the move and explore. Yes, I do wish we could sit in those gorgeous Common room couches or take a quick nap in our dorm’s bed to alternatively manual save/time skip, but either way, as a seasoned gamer and Potterhead alike, this game, flaws and all, is freaking incredible!
I feel like it lack in combat a lot, like there are not many play styles etc. But it is mainly exploration and adventure game, so i am not disappointed that much.

Bro I've never played something like this. I'm sure others have comparisons. But I personally haven't experienced an open world game specifically like this. It genuinely feels refreshing. I would like to be able interact with NPCs more but, I'm content nonetheless. I'm excited because this is just the beginning; updates and expansions are destined to come! Great start for the game.

I guess now we'll appreciate npc dialogue more, we used to take it for granted that every "daily things"dialogue with npc add so much more to the feels of the game, i don't know how it will gonna be like in hogwarts legacy does it makes you empty doing quest and quest without talking to npc in between? does the world feel static? Npc dialogues are one of the most important things in rpg for me, like hearing some dude sht his pants for eating too much or an innocent things like a kid being shunned off by his friends cause the fight or something, you get the idea.

there's a lot little things happens with when you walk past NPCs, like when i walked past the zonko's joke shop, the owner was kicking out students from the shop, or there was a chamber full of ghost talking and dancing away. it's very lively in some way when you go to certain areas of the map.

I mean there are some interesting conversations. I walked past a Ravenclaw (I think) that was complaining about getting no mail from his family. I saw Peeves and heard him a few times in the background. U can't interact with everyone but there are people with marks on their heads that u can talk to. The students also remark on whatever main or some side quests u do

For what it's worth HP was a huge part of my childhood, grew up with it, loved it, etc. But the moment the original leak was out, I convinced myself I'd buy it no matter what. I'm glad to see people who are new to the IP picking it up and willing to give it a try!
I've been dreaming about a game like this for over a decade now and I'm so happy that it's finally here. I've got about 7 hours of playtime and I've loved every single minute of it. It's just really fun to run around the castle and explore the side quests the the whole map in general. I'm pretty relieved that the amount of time you spend in each class is actually quite brief and isn't very tedious since sometimes it's barely five minutes.
Oddly enough, I would prefer more Hogwarts classes and QTE lessons. Those moments went by too fast in favor of the open world quests. Hell, more advanced mini-games for upgrading your spells would have been cool too.

Been playing this game for about 15 hours now. The devs have smashed it. Just exploring. The classes, the combat it’s all just awesome.
They’ve got an absolute gem of a game here and it’s been a very long time since I’ve actually enjoyed one this much.
Gaming as a whole has been on a massive decline for me. It’s games like this that make me excited as a gamer. It reignites the passion of pumping hours into a game and loosing track of time. getting lost in a world that was clearly handled with tremendous care.

Oh my lord! This game looks absolutely wonderful! Every inch seems hand-crafted. I'm going to spend most of my time walking (not running) around I think. The effects are cool and impactful, the lighting is incredible. Every chamber seems to be different. I hope the texture pop-ins and T-pose stuff is not on PC, or that it will be fixed through a patch at some point. I might have to buy 10 copies of this game. Don't even need them all, I just want to support good craftsmanship.

As usual Jake & Gameranx are right on the money! I’m a few hours into Hogwarts & I already feel like a kid again, exploring every inch of the world. I love everything so far and my only gripe is with what Jake mentioned during talking cutscenes. I do get some brightness changes when the camera shifts, almost feels like it switched from Cool to Warm colors sometimes. Not the end of the world but it does get a bit annoying. I hope it gets patched up soon, just glad to hear it’s not only me seeing it on the PS5. Hope to see more soon.
Gameranx is the only game reviews I trust. Was on the edge about this game as I’m not too big of a Harry Potter fan. I’ve seen all the movies I just don’t really care for it, but the idea of an open world game in the the Harry Potter universe could be fun, this video convinced me to pick it up and give it a shot

I can't wait for the game tomorrow, been hyped since gameranx covered it's leak years ago. I do feel like they could add some sort of "school life" system, kinda like how skyrim added a survival mode. It wouldn't be a huge change either, making it so you're not allowed out past curfew if you get caught, making some classes with minigames that maybe add some new spells or recipes. I mean it's not the furthest thing to expect if they plan to add DLC or updates to the game
A lot of people have been speculating that they might add something like that with one of the updates, as well as eventually adding Quidditch, although the devs have explained that lore-wise Quidditch is banned the year it's set in or something like that

In my opinion, something a vast majority of games fail is to first make a fun game. Then you make everything else. If the combat is bad, the game will suffer no matter what else is going on. Most games revolve around combat in one form or another, unless they are specifically puzzle/card/dating sims or whatever. That said, this combat looks great.
I started a few hours ago, and hot damn... I am loving it.
As he stated, there are some nitpicks for seasoned gamers here and there, but nothing that is anything more than a minor annoyance...far superseded by the incredible attention to detail of the castle, the immersive nature of what is happening, the music, the feeling of mystery, the insanely good graphics (honestly some of the best, if not THE best lighting I have seen in a game), really solid combat, and controls that feel great overall. The gripes about facial animations are definitely overblown. There are times when it is a bit wibbly, but I was actually quite impressed by the mouth movement to mimic actual words so often that I questioned a couple of times whether it was actually mo-capped or not. I was also pleasantly surprised by how much my player character emotes and likewise their facial animation is quite satisfactory, giving them a personality much more obvious than the wooden nature of what is seen in the preview content. Overall, everything I could have hoped for so far.
Wandering the castle currently, lost as shit, and there was no place I would rather be.

In Witcher 3, if u pulled out your sword in a crowd, the npc civilians reacted and the guards would tell u to put the sword away…. I’m surprised they didn’t make the npcs at least a little bit reactive.

The Witcher 3 NPCs are one of the best I've seen in any game. You can interact with them, bump into them and they have a life of their own. Plus, the environment actually has an affect on how they react. Hope Witcher 4 only expands upon this

I was a little disappointed in the old games because I knew the books by heart so it became boring knowing exactly how & when stuff was going to happen. So I am stoked for my own personal adventure! As someone who has photosensitive epilepsy, if anyone reads my comment, is there strobe effects? If so can I turn them off?

This game looks so good, I literally had to Google if it was running on UE5 or not. Unbelievable for UE4.

Summary. if you're a Potter Head, this is a no-brainer, a must play. For non Potterheads, this is like any other open world RPG you've probly played before
Yea, i dont like HP aesthetics a lot. Gameplay seems like old good assassins creed etc. loop. Would be cool to wonder the castle for couple of hours, but not sure its worth the price

Only played an hour of it so far on my series x and i'm absolutely loving every minute of it!
The only issues i have come across was a single framerate drop and some light adjusting thing when i entered hogwarts from an outside area. Both minor bugs that i'd imagine will be patched soon.
Both bugs only happened briefly and probably not noticeable to most people.

@@strangerontheinternet6409 diffrent time zones. Im i canada and my friends in England are 5 hours ahead of me. So when they get the game at midnight it'll only be 7pm for me im hateful towards them lol.

As somewhat a Harry Potter fan I’m really enjoying this game. There’s so much to do, I’ve barley started the main story. I’m just lost in the castle. I agree the houses don’t make much different but if you’re into role playing it adds somewhat
I was never a diehard Harry Potter fanboy like I am with the Star Wars franchise, but when I saw more recent footage of this game in the past four months or so, I was just so impressed with the graphics and the sense that the devs seemed to have really captured the essence of the Potter-verse, I knew I wanted to play it.
My favorite thing about this game is letting us change the clothes of the gear so we keep the buffs but not look goofy

I play on hard because I thought the combat would lead to some tough battles and honestly it can be pretty hard at times dying repeatedly and it definetly doesn’t leave room for much error which is awesome honestly

The voice pitch is bugged at the moment. The only way to prevent this robotic / talking in bucket voice is to use the standard preset. Luckily you can easily go to the audio menu and reset the options to default including the voice pitch fixing that sound. The only drawback is that it's the standard voice and not the higher or lower voices that one could prefer (me included.)

what makes it truly endearing is that it does no wrong. It might not get everything absolutely perfectly right but aside from the quidditch issue( which im 100000% sure is coming as a DLC), the game plays beautifully and my only complains are about things that I wish we got more of. Potion brewing minigames, a bit more involvement in classes, just a bit more impact out of some decisions. But aside from noticing it here and there, none of those things ever made me want to put the controller down. That's this game biggest thing, you just want to keep going
Been playing on series X for 16 hours now and can say that I haven't ran into any major bugs. Very minor things that are easy to look over in a game that is this good :)
This looks like the perfect HP experience. I watched all movies, because the world was cool. The disappointing part of the movies was how it felt like they were just scratching the surface with all the possibilities. I'm not buying this game any time soon, but I'll be excited to play it when it inevitably gets a discount and all the bugs are fixed- maybe when all the possible DLC has already been released.

So you're not gonna play it until like a year from now 😂 dude, if you really want the experience, play it now. Trust me, bugs are temperamental and DLC hype is better when you've been playing already and waiting for it.
Been playing Hogwarts Legacy non stop. Oh my goodness, this is the best I have played in awhile.
The attention to detail in the world is mind blowing. The gameplay is fun as hell and I'm just absolutely having a blast.
The developers have really outdone themselves.
These guys have been known to make games like Toy Story, and other Disney games.
I'm just amazed. Wow.
