    Fantastic Timpani part. It is the passion and the love from the prince after all those 1001 stories told by her.

    Great! Especially love the snare drum work. Would have liked to hear more of the base drum, but probably due to mic placement.

    is there a specific reason as to why the guy playing snare drum is doing single stroke and not double at about 3 minutes? When i played this i got told by my teacher Peter Kates that its better to do double strokes in a triplet motion rather than doing single strokes....

    • @kolbergpercussion
      @kolbergpercussion  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thanks for your comment!
      Nice question. Actually it depends on the phrasing you want. You will have a very different phrasing between single and double strokes. The best is always to try both and to make your own opinion!

      @@kolbergpercussion Thank you for answering my question! Makes sense that it changes the phrasing. I really noticed that the method used in the clip makes the strokes stand out more individually

      What do you mean by "timpani arrangement?"?

    • @afrofinka
      @afrofinka 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Probably a special effect from the conductor. At this moment of the story, Sinbad's ship is supposed to crash.

    • @phantasos12
      @phantasos12 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ken, what special effect from the conductor are you talking about? How is your statement about the conductor and story an answer to the question "timpani arrangement?"?

    • @sivadepilif
      @sivadepilif 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Fact: Korsakov don't wrote that.
      Some conductors need to stop this bad habit of getting changing percussion parts.

    • @afrofinka
      @afrofinka 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was talking about the timpani roll on the gong stroke, and of course this is not written in the score, Rimsky-Korsakov writes a simple roll on triplets (dynamics : sforzando in piano)
      In this case, the conductor is guilty, shall we agree ?

    From 4:25 snare drum is playing wrong, it's not written like that in the score. Actually I didn't pass the audition only because of that part, I played just like the guy.

    • @Michael-Oh
      @Michael-Oh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Krunoslav Benko that's just how they do it in some places in Europe. If you do a 7 stroke roll for some Russian orchestras you'll not pass their audition.

    • @pumpkin1982
      @pumpkin1982 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 5 stroke ruffs should be quieter and doubled.

    • @Michael-Oh
      @Michael-Oh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@daultontemplet4016 Believe it or not there are very talented percussionists out there that have the dexterity to play 7 ppp notes in sheherazade mov 3 without doing 7 stroke roll. I would say this video is a bad example by this principle.
      But honestly you can play it however you like as long as it's accurate and musical, I prefer doing a roll with nice light sticks.

    • @daultontemplet4016
      @daultontemplet4016 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Michael-Oh No, I totally agree with you. I misunderstood the exact thing we were talking about. I thought that it sounded as if he played too many notes, but when I slowed it down just now, I do hear seven. I thought you were saying different regions play different amounts of notes, but you were just saying singled rather than doubled. My bad. Although, they shouldn't turn down people simply over a sticking. As long as it sounds the same as being singled, it shouldn't matter I'd think.
