Second I believe we need some Linux wizards here to port these programs to a contemporary Linux distribution with proper support for modern hardware preferably live distributions where you can run them from a USB thumb drive. For all that have issue with booting of harddrive all hard drives can work its simply error with backup image,to make it work flash the image nw suplied,than download ubuntu 16.04.7 and install it on same drive with keeping old ubuntu,and whoila you can boot from hdd,tested on 1tb ssd and 80,160,250,500gb hdds all works fine.

Thank you for the files. some points. there is no need for any specific drive old or new. the thing is this image use MBR boot method so be sure to check this in your bios when booting this image as most new biose uses UEFI boot, enable CSM and disable secure boot also. also set drive mode in bios to AHCI(it will cause your current os not to boot, revert back after) . thats all there is to booting this ubuntu 16 image. Also i had issue with copying directory to image file using that shitware DiskGenius, if you also had issue copying, after writing the image attach the whole drive using vmware workstation as physical disk to virtual machine it will then boot into the image you can enable networking, update apt and install openssh-server and then simply SCP the files (It will be as ordinary linux machine).

Hi, just for reference. I was dealing with restoring images on different drives and many times the drive couldn't become bootable just because it was connected extrernally with a usb adapter. If you have the same issue, connect the drive directly to the motherboard with a sata cable, should be some sort of protection for the boot sector.
nice video, you could make base linux image with menu only and each gpu as a separate zip folder you just dump into linux image. don't need , don't have to download. certanly would make for smaller download files. the only requirement would be linux running from fat partition so windows could open it with no fuss i have a question about scripts for older and egzoric gpus though. Do you have any idea where to find scripts for testing workstation gpus like firepro w series? in essence they would be gcn1 or gcn2 with doubled memory eg w4300 or w5100 are like hd7790 with 4gb of ddr5 either in 8 or 4 chips but still on the same core and memory bus so i don't know if regular hd7790/r7 260x/360 script would work with them due to different memory organization and density

you can do a distro upgrade to upgrade the ubuntu to latest ... and then you can create an image ... you do not have to be stuck with the old ubuntu version !!!

I am trying to get this working on my system. I am restoring the image to a third HDD. I've been trying drives from 2006-2008 era. I Tried WD2500AAJS 250g and Seagate barracuda 160g and 250g versions.
update: It seems that it worked on the mentioned 250g Barracuda and the other ones, I just thought something was corrupt since the screen had massive artefacting on boot. I navigated through the ubuntu startup menu by heart going to the recovery option in advanced. I got into Linux after that got the memtune started for my faulty XFX 6800xt SWFT. seems channels E0 and E1 are faulty, which is weird since the card only has 8 memory chips...agt reported success on A0 through H1. Huge thanks for the tutorial. dmgg.py reported most of the chips failed. Could this mean memory controller is at fault? Who knows... I'll figure something out.
I have it working - I used his image and the tutorial he gave here...are you using a old hard drive? Are you using a usb connector or directky attached to your motherboard?

U are a king amongst men . my 5500xt was dying from a few days ( now dead on drivers ) and i had no way of testing its memory and now i do

Tested three different hard drives. I was not be able to boot from any of them. Tested two Samsung SSDs 830, 850 and a old USB HDD. Any tips?

Going by the image on 24:53 seems I have a failed chip near the place where pcb-s tend to crack most often. I wonder if I could only resolder it....
