    got the #1 asus router, was in early 2015 and was last years pick however was the cheapest best rated router I could find in the area shops.. was having difficulties with my 6 year old $274 E3000 router (was junk). this one was a breeze to setup, and works flawlessley for my wife to work from home & keeping everyone going on the wifi.

    You can get #1 on this list from T-Mobile for $25.
    It's branded T-Mobile, but it's the same router.
    Got mine a month ago, works great.

    I own asus RT-AC68U. I bought it because i need network storage and dlna stream without the lag.1080p dlna stream is working flawlessly to my both tv's in different rooms and it has the most awesome feature in the world and that is build in torrent client witch really comes in handy when you need to download something without leaving your pc on over night. I love this router.

    Go with the Asus RT-AC68U as it appears that there is a known issue that Netgear refuses to deal with and fix. I’ve been an IT System Administrator for over 20 years and I would not buy another Netgear product again after dealing with their support which doesn't admit there is a known problem.
    I had the Netgear WNDR3400 and never had any trouble with it. I bought the Nighthawk R7000 and for $200 and my experience with other Netgear hardware I thought this unit would be great. The configuration lets you lock down your wireless and looked like an excellent product for the money.
    I have had nothing but trouble with it. The Nighthawk r7000 is constantly going down. I upgrade firmware and it craps out and I have to redo the configuration. I get up in the morning and no wireless, I have to reboot it. Sometimes it goes down 2-3 times a day. The other day I got up and again no wireless, I rebooted and that didn't fix it. I go into the configuration and it says the wireless is turned off. First time I had this issue and you have to hold the wireless button on the front for about 10 seconds to turn it back on.
    This is ridicules that this unit has so many issues. Of course it's now out of the 90 warranty and Netgear says as long as the correct lights are on it not a hardware issue so pay us to troubleshoot or fix it yourself. When the device is a lemon, you can't fix that!
    WELL NOW THAT I’M WRITING THESE REVIEW,I FIND THAT MANY USERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUES I’M HAVING. THEY HAVE ALSO CONTACTED NETGEAR TO NO AVAIL.
    BOTTOM LINE, BUY ANOTHER PRODUCT.

    Forget about Apple being mad why no mention of the easy to add on networking on the AirPort Extreme - it a big selling point as you can upgrade to another Airport in the future and use the old one as an extender for dead spots in your home ..... No software needed

      +pnoyxflamesdoesminecraft The ASUS router is awesome, the best part is using Dual-WAN. Two internet services! In either round-robin setup, or fail-over. The 2nd WAN can be a USB Cell-Data modem. So if your cable fails, it picks up the 2nd WAN without delay.

    • @Julianna.Domina
      @Julianna.Domina 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +PNoYxFlames Does T-Mobile give them out to people who have T-Mobile service and will probably be upgrading to a T-Mobile smartphone soon? We live with my Grandma and she has T-Mo, and currently only has a flip-phone but probably will pick up a Moto G or something for cheap. I have US Cellular and my mother and brother have AT&T.

    Blue light, while generally a calming color, is actually the worst light color to sleep in. It _basically_ tricks parts of your brain into thinking it's dawn and throws a wrench into your brain's normal chemical production rhythm. There have purportedly even been studies linking being exposed to blue light at night to having a higher likelihood of developing cancers.
    I have one of those white Motorola cable modems with bright blue LEDs on the front, and trying to sleep in that light drives me nuts. On more than one occasion waking me up at about 2 in the morning. I actually leave a tissue box set up vertically in front of it now and can finally get rest at night again. No joke.

    Just wondering. What is the point of a 1Gbit+ router if no internet available can provide those speeds. I get 50mbps and i have a router that can handle 400mbps. Just seems pointless.

    • @LegendTheAnonymous
      @LegendTheAnonymous 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure but I think if you use a dual band router with 802.11 ac your internet speed will be very close to the one you would get if you had connected your computer to it with a lan cable even if you are a couple of metres away. Like if I was to measure 200 mbps with a lan cable connected, I might still get 190 mbps 20 metres away I think. I might be completely wrong though.

      The point is to future proof, so you don't need to buy another router when faster speeds are available. Also, some people like to transfer media and files around their internal network.

    • @musicalhistory4392
      @musicalhistory4392 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The previous standard is plenty of speed because average speed in U.S. Is 10 Meg's a second, and even in good country's and good interment you should only see around 109 Meg's a second, far below the an standard of 150 Meg's a second, but file transfer within network can use this 1.3 gb and if Internet does times 10 in speed then you already can handle.

    I got the nighthawk and just saying dunno if its relevant, but I keep it on a very very hot room and almost nothing to cool it off, and it runs very very hot, I didnt like that it ran that hot, anyways ... long story short think that Fked the router off cuz now it aint working properly and internet speeds are just horrible. However when I first got the thing it was a beast, I do gaming and there are more than 8 devices always on in my house and I never got lag or issues with the internet and my provider does 25MB download and 0.75 upload wich is super super low internet connection considering most people in other places in the world. That didnt stop us all using all of our devices and my gaming at the same times with no problems in connectivity lag or anything of that kind, it ran SMOOTH. think imma get another one with the warranty.

    I get up to 300 Mbps my router is never going to lag why because I made a few modifications to it it might sound dumb but listen to this I but foil around the tip of my router antenna and put one of them to the side the other up because it will bounce of the walls etc the foil speeds it up a little if your internet is shitty but it won't be perfect unless you buy the perfect router I pay 250 for my internet

    • @Kuyabakas
      @Kuyabakas 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check your modem connection. If your internet from the modem is okay then it's the WiFi router. If you want to know if you need a new router, you can do a speedtest on your WiFi. Check your WiFi clients. Are they old like 802.11g/b standard? Are you using WEP or WPA-TKIP as your wireless security? Maybe you're too far from the router and you're getting a low signal. If that's the case, you need to get a range extender or you can use powerline adapters. Upgrade your router's firmware. New firmware has improvements and fixes for bugs. Check your router's location. If you've tried everything and you're still getting slow WiFi, then get a new one.

      TheGibshome Have you updated your firmware? What devices are you connecting to it? (When responding with devices, please post the 802.11 standard in which they are connected, as well as speed of the devices)
      My router has 2 devices (Desktop and Smart TV) connected to the 5ghz band. One being Wireless AC, the TV only supporting Wireless N. Also connected to the router via 2.4ghz are all of the cellular devices in the household (4 iphones), as well as anywhere from 1-4 laptops connected (depending on who all on is on their computers)

    noob question: i have a verizon fios modem that works as a router. Do I need one of these routers to get the best wifi performance?

    • @Julianna.Domina
      @Julianna.Domina 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Generally, Telecom routers aren't very good, and a combined router-modem can be quite sluggish. But what speeds are you getting now? Test a wired connection at speedtest.net

      New American Fishkeeper same question I was going to ask I have AT&T and the signal strength is getting weaker for some odd reason and speeds and slowing down I use to be very handy with this stuff but that was about 6 years ago

    • @Julianna.Domina
      @Julianna.Domina 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      xrubydiamond That stinks, man! I hope you can figure out the problem. We have 100mb/s internet that functions as 20 or 45 because we have so much stuff.

    • @Julianna.Domina
      @Julianna.Domina 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ODiS No problem. Sounds like your router is bottlenecking your performance. But you don't have to buy one of these, any wirless N or preferable AC should be good. Ones these fast are just future proofing for like the 4000s, or now if you live in a cool city.

      I personally like the design of the Apple AirPort and the Mac Pro. They take significantly less space than their predecessors (Mac Pro 2012 and the AirPort Extreme.) I think it all goes back to personal preference.

    Netgear Nighthawk was no faster than a TP link that cost a third of the price and is troublesome. Review something straight out the box is all very well but wait until it fails and it will and you will be buying another.If somebody wants my Nighthawk they can have it for free if you get to the bin before the garbage truck does.
